@Mad001 Oh cripes no I would never go to those actual lengths — especially when the result would be a 480i image on a 60+ inch TV screen - I'd be far more resigned to just renting the movie/show on Amazon in 4K or something
@Mad001 Yeah, HDD space was never really an issue — I just couldn't be bothered to go through hundreds of discs at 40-60 mins per rip — I'd need some sort of automated jukebox rig to physically change the discs over while I was asleep or something...
@Mad001 Yeah I did - I had a whole plan to get my 300+ films and TV shows (many with multiple discs) onto a hard drive before I moved house, but the image quality and the sheer time it took to rip each disc had me throwing in the towel after the fifth or sixth disc...
@Mad001 Yeah, over half of Daria's entire audiobed was peppered with unlicensed music (as it aired on MTV originally), so the DVDs were sadly almost completely stripped of them and replaced with generic background music. A real shame, as the music felt like a real, organic element of that show.
@LiquidouSnake I know, but when you've got over a hundred games it does kind of kill the spontaneity of firing up something you haven't played in a while when it requires a massive update — having an "Update all" button that you could periodically click to do a library-wide check would be a great time saver.
I do find it interesting how "remakes" such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro can so seemingly effortlessly nail the execution, whereas a "remaster" like the GTA Definitive Collection can go catastrophically wrong.
@PenguinLtd Yeah it is — There are so many great games (like Simpsons Arcade) which are just languishing in limbo because of all the various rights holders that own a piece of it.
@Ultimapunch and with a game this vast, I'm likely ever only going to play it once, and this is what, the third time I've heard "oh now it's been updated, it's definitely worth getting"? How many times can a game be considered "ready" until you're expected to take the plunge and invest dozens of hours into it?
Yeah, it's one of those films that I remember being pretty blown away by when I first watched it, but the novelty of it wears off really quickly and only serves to reinforce the argument that FFVII really works best when contained within the narrative of the main game.
Will it feature splat-against-the-side-of-a-building damage? I felt that was the area I found myself colliding with more than the ground while slingin' around
@Nem My thoughts exactly — I've spent more money on shorter games, and from what I've read it all just seems a bit mediocre. I'd rather spend 15 hours on a game that really impresses me.
@Gamer83 yeah the loose trilogy of Legend/Anniversary/Underworld was where the series really started to find its groove in terms of embracing analogue controls, where the first five (and to a lesser extent, Angel of Darkness) were very specific in their control scheme. You ever played Prince of Persia or Flashback? It's kind of like a 3D version of that — kinda rigid and calculated, so not for everybody, but I always enjoyed them
@Gamer83 If it's decent, then absolutely — we've definitely been shafted royally for a lot of remasters of late, so I'm going to proceed with all the caution of Lara carrying a nugget to the statue of Midas.
I did initially get GTA Remastered PTSD flashbacks when seeing those wipe transitions, but fingers crossed this won't be an absolute poopshow.
And yeah, the tank controls are an inherent part of the level design, particularly in the first game — when they first dipped their toes into analogue control, we got Angel of Darkness...
"Occasionally the perspective can play tricks on you, with depth proving tough to judge at times. This can trip you up during platforming moments, though it's never too big a problem."
Currently having the exact same issue with CrossCode, which I'm playing at the moment — it's decent, but not without its flaws
@Number09 my thoughts precisely — the curated collection they offer I've either already played/owned, or can pick up for a pittance second hand (and trade them in once I'm done)
@XboxTheBestBox they could do it — if, in whatever console/iteration they have lined up next, include the guts of whatever was inside the original PS3, and have full hardware compatibility all the way back to PS1 - that would be an absolute joy. They probably won't though, it feels like an area they simply aren't interested in. Plus it's not like they're purposefully holding it back; I can't imagine they're making major bank on the handful of people like myself who are stumping up a fiver and change for Ape Escape.
It's a neat idea, and certainly a good option for people who don't want to hog the TV, I'm just a bit wary how many people it will actually cater for; it feels like a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist for that many to really warrant.
I do find it amusing the whole movement to "boycott" this game has come to nothing — ultimately people will vote with their wallets. Also after the GTA Trilogy fiasco, I'm not surprised that they've just opted for a straight port, but then the salty minority will have things to b!tch about no matter what they're given.
@Skeletor85 Yeah just for a lark I plugged mine in via USB and it worked immediately! Which is ace, as I've found the DualShock 3 D-pad to be far less responsive than I remember...
@JamieO yeah there's about 20 or so games stranded on that generation, but every few weeks a new port/rerelease gets announced that chips away at my reason for keeping my ps3 hooked up — and DD Neon is a stone cold classic, I was so chuffed when that got ported to modern consoles recently
@SMcCrae95 Interesting that you prefer the original's music over this one — there are so many tracks here that I absolutely adored (except for the one with the animals — while it's a neat idea for a medley, it's a bit dirge-y; the dogs all sound really bored)
Having never played any of the games, I have zero context or expectation of what this show actually is or about — did it bear any reference or resemblance to the lore of the game universe?
@AndyKazama I suck at modern controls — there's a lot of muscle memory from Classic Controls that's really hard to actively forget, but it's cool that the option's there.
I really wanted PSVR2 to do well — I wonder if a lack of backwards compatibility might have hurt it a little - I mean, could you imagine if the PS5 had launched without BC? I've been waiting for various words-of-mouth to gush about an absolute system seller that's going to change my overall indifference towards it, but we're months after launch and I'm still waiting.
Also, to echo a few sentiments here, the few times I've tried VR I've definitely experienced some level of motion sickness. Not consistently, but certainly enough times to seriously question dropping over half a grand on one.

@hi_drnick yeah Lost Levels sounds good — a little known fact, did you know The Last of Us 2 in Japan was originally a game called Doki Doki Panic...

@B_Lindz Came here to say exactly this — did they ever implement an upgrade path for the first game?

@Mad001 absolutely — if I'm visiting a town or city I will always check out the local CEX to see what untapped treasures they're hoarding
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Physical Deluxe Edition Announced, Is Two Discs on PS5
Any chance of a tat-less edition? I guess £70 isn't a terrible price, but I never go for these big deluxe packages; I just want the game

Is there an "Update all" option or do you still have to go game by game like a chump?
Re: Poll: Spider-Man 2 PS5 Bugs are Apparently a Real Problem, But Have You Had Any?
So far I've had...
