My biggest problem with Ubi has been their willingness to just leave the defining elements of thier franchises Behind way to easily. Now I am a huge AC fan. I love all the older games. In my opinion those games offered something that nothing else in the industry did. Their biggest issue was Ubi releasing those games way too close to each other thus there not being many changes from entry to entry but taken as a whole the AC franchise was very unique. If you wanted to play something like AC the only real option was AC. Now it's just another RPG. Why would I bother playing a mediocre version of that when there are countless better ones out there? What exactly does the AC franchise offers now that I can't find elsewhere? They still don't seem to have learned their lesson, talking about how they want to go for the broadest appeal possible, well more of the same is gonna happen in that case.
I could understand remasters as a concept last gen with the different architecture and lack of BC so I was hoping that this gen will kill them off for goo, especially the PS4 to PS5 ones, but here we are. Remakes of games from PS3 and before I can still stomach since they often look and feel very different but who really is asking for remasters of PS4 games?
@Ralizah absolutely can't wait to play it and Horizon Zero Dawn definitive remastered edition especially since poor sony doesn't have any IPs apart from tlou and Horizon.
Ngl I hope that they delay the next generation untill like 2029, so that some actual games actually release for the PS5 and so that the PS6 can have a much higher performance difference to the PS5 pro than it would of they launch in 2027.
@get2sammyb yeah this is the thing with all the reactions I am seeing everywhere. I 100% agree that this thing is ridiculously priced, especially in Europe, but people acting like they have to pay 800 or 900 $/£/€ for a PS5 now or that this is supposed to be a successor to the PS5 is just silly to me. I do fear what it implies for the PS6 but we'll see when that happens.
What a bizzare thing to say. No problem with creating new ips but this is just ridiculous in terms of playstation. PS has so many ips from so many different genres that they can easily create a bunch of lower budget titles with those instead of splooging all over the live service bandwagon or even the very high budget cinematic third person games, I like these ones but variety is clearly the way to go.
This is the way. Sony needs to focus on these smaller and shorter titles to fill the calander, it would also bring in a great variety in terms of genres and ips. Maybe revive some older ips with smaller budgets or maybe bring something completely new. It's less risk while at the same time, one of those games blowing up and becoming a darling is high reward.
Is it really surprising that this happened. People have been saying for years that this whole development of 10 live service games was dumb. In a time when they should have been doubling down on a variety of single player titles they are floundering right here. Just watch as these other live service games crash and burn. The fact that they decided to release this game, who nobody wanted, while cancelling Factions that was actually anticipated on the words of Bungie, who are also struggling, should tell you enough.
@CielloArc but just how more work would it be to just release it on PS5 anyway. What would they lose? Especially since it's by a section of sony anyway.
Now if they would only give us a next gen game built from the ground up with the unity style Parkour in mind. Just imagine how awesome, an actual polished version of those mechanics would be.
The PS4 pro was launched in 2016, about three years after the launch of the PS4 and we are already in the fourth year of PS5 and if, as sony said, we are past the peak sales of PS5 then if this PS5 pro gets pushed into 2025, what's the point of launching it. A PS6 would be in 2027 following the gap in the last 3 generations. Why bother when they themselves don't think that PS5 overall will have higher sales than before.
I wish sony were to start developing more AA games like they used to. There is always a chance for a cult success in those. Seriously though Naughty Dog needs to release something, the generation is more than half done and nothing from them.
I don't understand why is this even a topic of discussion. Not everything needs to be for everyone. It doesn't matter what anyone else think about accessibility, if the creator feels that providing those options tarnishes the artistic integrity, so be it. It's also not as straight forward implementing these options as people think it is especially when you want everything to gel well together. Just turning down hit boxes and life bars and whatnot is such a lazy way of doing it to begin with.
I always find the "reward outweighs the risk line" coming from executives. Of course they do, since they aren't taking them. If it fails the ones to take the fall is the devs.
I wouldn't be surprised if most of those cancelled games were the live service games. Almost all the ps studios seemed to be working on at least one. If this is the case then I can't help but say good riddance. A ***** situation either way though.
Honestly I hope this the live service game Sony has been looking for so they can stop throwing money at these kinds of projects in the future. I hope they realise that only so many of these types of games can succeed.
I know it takes a long time to develop games nowadays but naughty dogs output this generation has been disappointing. Literally nothing new to show more than 3 years into the console cycle.
I don't get it, they went through all this trouble with the governments and whatnot regarding the exclusivity, only to then release thier games on PlayStation anyway. I mean saying they were gonna do this back during those hearings would've really helped them.
I can only assume that the numbers for the whole Xbox division were disappointing to them or something, because there is clearly a shift in their act.
@GuyInDirtyShirt yeah I know but overhauling the whole ps5 gt7 campaign would mean different campaigns on ps4 and ps5. Effectively two different single player experiences. I am sure if pd wants to have that kind of differentiation because so far all the ps5 only stuff is additive.
@TrickyDicky99 i understand that but wouldn't implementing in the whole single player mean changing how the whole campaign progresses, since it's all built around the old ai. Also this a cross gen game, so maybe they might not be comfortable with revamping the whole sp just for the current gen players. I feel like this will properly be implemented only in the next game.
Honestly Sony deserves this. Literally nobody wanted these live service games and they kept jamming them down our throats.
You guys kept saying how those games don't take resources away from the sp games. Well we'll see if that turns out to be the case now do we. We don't even have mid budget Sony games to bulk up the line up anymore this generation. The next few years are gonna be intriguing.
Seriously they talk about how single player are their bread and butter and will be the focus and all that but all we got from them in terms of first party were ....... A few gaas titles cinematics and gameplay for the only major single player game everyone knows about.
Now I know that they have a lot of single player stuff in the oven but to show off to all the detractors and show your commitment to those sp games they bring this. Lip service can only take you so far.
I really hope the redesign is smaller. I finally physically saw a ps5 at a friend's house and boy, the thing's a beast. I had known it was big but it was far bigger than i was expecting, no way will it fit in my setup. I hope they shrink it down to about the original ps4 size somehow.
@cragis0001 dude playstation was not a thing when sony bought them, so no ***** they had no first party titles. The first ps came out in 1994 and they bought them in 93. How the hell are these situations comparable. People conveniently forget that xbox has been around for more than 20 years. Nd, suckerpunch, santa Mónica, London, japan, media molecule and a bunch of second party studios were a thing when ps was 20 years old.
@cragis0001 really you are comparing psygnosis to actiblizz. Not only that but also a purchase made when playstation was not even a thing to when xbox has been around for over 20 years and still have no first party to show for it so now they go out and buy a publisher.
@eduscxbox correct ms's hypocrisy. The director literally said that the game was coming to ps but ms scrapped it. Tbh if ms was upfront about it i wouldn't even mind this for Bethesda but no they gotta pretend to be these savior of gamers to appease the govts.
@cragis0001 you are delusion if you truly believe that ms buying actiblizz and Bethesda is in any way even close to what sony has ever done. Like do you even realise how big that actiblizz deal is. 70 billion. That's almost twice of what nvidia was gonna pay for arm. Ridiculous that you can put them on the same level.
Wasn't this the case before as well since they were developing uc3 and tlou simultaneously. I do hope that this news means that nd's output increases a bit.
SE has been one of those companies that just feels so out of touch with these bizzare decisions be it releasing games in a way that they caniballise each other or be it just insane expectations for games and not understanding the market for them.
Honestly if Sony does plans to acquire them, it's better to wait for these blockchain games to crash and burn first and then pull the trigger.
If this true then what's the point of having backwards compatibility with ps4. Instead of working on remasters and whatnot for games that people can't play on PS5 they are wasting resources on tlou and hzd.
Truly bizzare decision making from Sony. Just how many own bad decisions are they gonna make. So disappointing.
Whatever man, just be more transparent. We have know idea what's going on, no presence at any events, no communication. This is what is starting to annoy me. No news then a bunch of worrying stuff followed by reassurances and the cycle continues. Show don't tell works the best you know.
Isn't it good though, just show Sony that we have zero interest in nfts. They have been pretty willing to listen to what people want and change directions on stuff like this recently.
@sonicmeerkat If this was the ps1 game running on an emulator on ps5 then sure I could understand but if it is a port and/or remaster you're releasing of a game at least make sure it works properly.
