Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Tiers Will Be Refreshed Monthly with New Games

Brydontk

I've never had Gamepass or Now so the rotating games system sounds stressful to me, but otherwise, I like that the higher tiers get their own updates.

Maybe this was answered in other articles, but are games claimed in Extra (or Premium, I guess) owned like with PS Plus? Or are they like Now and are just borrowed from Sony?

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Tiny Tina's Wonderlands?

Brydontk

@Gloamin Kind of there with you. Borderlands just feels like the quintessential looter shooter and I'm sort of bored with those at this point. Looking past getting guns every second, you realize how boring it really is to get hundreds of common and uncommon guns every second with the occasional rare that you realize you already have. Willing to try this one when it's on sale because it has more of a focus on magic and such but still. Meh.

Re: Call of Duty Will Take Time Off Next Year

Brydontk

@MFTWrecks Since 2008 sort of. They took two gap years but they've almost consistently released a new game every year

EDIT:Scratch that. Apparently since inception they've been aiming for annual releases with some games having a gap year

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Version Detailed with 30 Minutes of Gameplay

Brydontk

I've had it on my shelf since release and I'm ready to dust it off and give it a try. I don't really fault the devs, as apparently they were making a game they thought would be ready in 2022 and it was the marketing department that went wild with the promises. So it's 2022, I imagine what's being released is what their vision was supposed to be.

@thefourfoldroot "MS going with the 'drive the competition out before ramping up the price' strategy it seems."

100%. This stuff is textbook. Like, literal social studies class textbook (I keep saying that because I'm shocked at how many people don't understand what's going on). And not just microtransaction-riddled, but watered down in quality because "Who cares? We've already got your money!"

Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard

@Rural-Bandit I dig the optimism, and if that's what happens, great for all of us. But again, if you look at what's been going on, Microsoft's moves have been weird. I remember a while back that they admitted they don't profit from the gaming side of things. So when they have a service like Game Pass, which almost certainly is a loss for them (People staying on the subscription rather than buying new games) it really does seem more like a long-term maneuver than a sound business practice. I want free games like the next guy, but I've always understood why Sony dragged their feet in matching Game Pass. It really does seem like since dropping the ball with the Xbox One, Microsoft has been content with losing money for long-term gain. Granted, Sony got greedy this gen and fell asleep at the wheel, but I'm not entirely sure how this will play out for us.

Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard

@Americansamurai1 Doubtful. The government tends to overlook things that they perceive as... "childish" for lack of a better term. Part of the reason the internet was the Wild West for a decade was because the government allowed phone companies to buy up everything related to it, then refused to regulate anything because they perceived the internet as a passing fad. If you're looking for the government to stop monopolization of entertainment, look no further than Disney to understand why that won't happen.

Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard

Brydontk

@Rural-Bandit I agree. I'm not saying Sony is the "good guy" in this by any means, but it's clear to see what's going on here. They've been pressuring Sony with Gamepass for a while and now all the acquisitions. Sony will still have plenty of options, they have their exclusives after all, but in terms of consumers, most only have 1 console (maybe 2 because Nintendo IPs, and Nintendo consoles are cheaper). So when consumers start weighing which console they want down the line, most are going to want the console with the boatload of games.

Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard

Brydontk

Xbox fans are celebrating but they clearly don't know how monopolies work.
1.Company introduces super awesome product at an extremely reasonable, almost detrimental price (Gamepass).
2. Company starts buying out/acquiring smaller companies to build themselves bigger than their true competition.
3. Company continues to offer and introduce services/products that the competition can't compete with at a price the competition can't compete with
4. Competition fails and/or is bought out by the company.
5. Company raises prices and/or yanks the extremely reasonable service.

And ladies, gents and nb's, we have a monopoly. We learned this in social studies people, come on. Microsoft is clearly at step 2.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 409

Brydontk

@Rob_230 Not exaggerating, I'm thoroughly shocked at how fun it is to play. And you're right about the soundtrack. Lately I've gotten into the habit of playing spotify over my gaming but I havent done it once yet on this. If it werent for Arceus coming out pretty soon, I'd jump straight into the sequel when I'm done.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 409

Brydontk

I played a quarter of the way through Final Fantasy XII before realizing I was just fast-forwarding through everything (The gameplay and story's fun, but give me a FF button in an older game and I'll use it). Currently 10 hours into YS VIII and I'm absolutely hooked. It's such a fun game. I'll be playing that this weekend.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Read All the Crap in Games?

Brydontk

90% of the time: Hard no. And everyone talks about how interesting the texts in Skyrim and Fallout are for world building, but who has time for all that?

I only bother to read the texts if they're in my face (like an item) and brief, like in Control. Or if they're stories. But if it's just a fictional journal that's laying open and you have to angle the camera just right to read it, where some random character who died before the game happened is just rambling. I admire the devs' devotion but I'm good.

Re: PS5 Upgrade for Final Fantasy VII Remake Now Available with PS Plus

Brydontk

@ShaneReactions Same, it's led to a nightmarishly huge backlog. But it's led to some fun surprise moments when I've had friends over or my partner asks, "Is there something we can both play?" Then I just scroll through like, "Lets see... Oh! How about this?"

In any case, not redeeming them feels like just chucking money into the trash.

Re: Sony Quietly Shaping Up After Indie Backlash Earlier in the Year

Brydontk

Exact reason why criticism is important. Not abuse, but criticism. Remember people, they are a corporation, they live and die by the dollar. If they don't do right by consumers, or in this case, small developers, we need to raise our voices and that's how change happens. Not by shutting up and taking it because we like their products.

Re: Raw Forspoken Gameplay Features Combat, Menus

Brydontk

@JJ2 I was thinking of Outriders when I saw this. Everyone said it would be bad because of the visuals but I remember being kind of baffled by that, especially when the demo came out. I feel like with the increased focus on frame rate and graphics this gen, people forget how good a game can feel. And honestly, even if it turns out to be rough around the edges, this game looks like it has the potential to be a blast to play. Decimating enemies with amazing spell combinations? Come on people, this looks like it'll be so much fun!

Re: PS Plus Blocks Free Mortal Shell PS5 Upgrade

Brydontk

@bighal I mean IS it entitled? It's always so bizarre to me how giant corporations have people jump to their defense them like this. Because end of the day, every Playstation Plus subscriber is a customer. Whether you paid for a month, three months, a year, you paid for the service.

I'm not even a person that's up in arms about the Mortal Shell thing, but it does seem weird to me that they're like, "Oh you paid for our optional (but not really because if you ever want to play with your friends, you HAVE to subscribe) service? Here's a game! Oh, but we cut out the main part of the game, you want the full version, you gotta buy it. But you can have another game! Oh, no no no, not the upgraded version. You want that, you still have to pay full price".
