Should also be a question for “Will you buy the PS5 Pro?” I would answer no. Nothing would make me feel more like a “ps5 beta tester” than that. Like I’ve been playing on some sort of dev kit this whole time that I got scammed into paying frill price for. I feel like it’s hardly taken off as a system yet and it’s obscene (and a slap in the face for early adopters) to release a ps5 PRO. Another model with a detachable drive, okay, but not a spec bump and renaming.
WRC Generations, yes! Been waiting for a sale on that one. Really been enjoying 10 so I'm going right for Generations. That sweet sweet 120hz mode is crazy good on our TV. Really dislike the team management aspect of it but I understand why it's included and is a natural step forward for the series so I just bare with it. It's fine!
Loved it. The show hit me in my feelies (yet again.) I never played the DLC this was apparently based on. Never would’ve known if not for the other comments! I only ever played and beat the first game once and never played the DLC. Really sad there’s only 2 episodes left.
I caught the last few minutes of the stream for this and it seemed like they put a lot of work into the voices and animations and stuff but I have zero interest in these “open world” types of games anymore. They’ve all become so boring to me. I wasn’t planning on buying it anyway so it’s really no harm no foul for me.
I'm scared because like... how do you make a MGS game without, y'know, the captain of the series. If Kojima was somehow on board, even as a consultant, I'll happily sit down and watch wide-eyed. If he's not, I'll scowl carefully through squinty-eyes like Futurama's Fry.
Weird…. Wonder why they went with 1st generation compatibility rather than the newer 2nd gen? I’d probably get this if it worked with the regular gen 3’s which is what I have.
@mcdreamer this happened to me. Please don’t read that wrong: the game is overflowing with quality and it’s extremely good but after a bit, it becomes just another open world game. I got bored with SpiderMan for the same reason. I’ll get burned at the stake for these comments in here I know but I just wanted to offer that testimonial up… Still, at that price it’s a steal and well worth whatever time you sink into it. I’ll go back to it myself someday I know.
I don’t want it any less or any more than I did prior to reading this review so that’s good. I’m still buying it but I’ll wait for a sale since I’m about to dive into Metroid Prime Remaster and I’m working through Last of Us P1.
Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait… …guess I have no choice but to wait until later this year. 🤷♂️ Absolutely excited for this new entry!
Uuuggghhhhhhh I've never had a proper chance to play these games and I'm a huge MGS fan... I'd love for chance to finally play these!!! Would be stellar to get both in one package or something. I don't care I just want to play them on a console with a controller in front of the TV.
Some may say Visage is scariest, but Madison takes to cake by far for me. What an awesome game!! Frigin terrifying…
Visage’s controls and gameplay need tweaking. It’s borderline unplayable for me and frustrating. I feel like I got soft-locked in the one chapter where you have to break mirrors so I started a new file about a year later and it was slightly more enjoyable on that new chapter but I couldn’t bring myself back to it. It just dragged a little too much for me and was a little too wandering and slow to keep my engaged.
Madison is so much better on almost all bullet points. I recommend it if you haven’t played it. Would probably soil myself with VR.
Loved the episode and what they’re doing with this show. I haven’t been this excited and satisfied about a storyline and TV show in a LONG TIME. With it without “TLOU” branding, this show is unmistakably great.
You just wait til they reboot this series in about 30-40 years. They wont even have actors: they'll have AI-generated CGI and the dialogue will be procedurally generated so it's new every time you watch it. They'll charge full price. We won't even know that the monsters look like they have cauliflower attached to their head because we'll have moved well past vegetables to know what cauliflower even is. We're done for.
I’ve only ever bought the Wii U and Switch Pro controllers. I only bought the Switch one because the analog sticks that come with Switch OOTB are a bit loose for my tastes and hard to get those finer movements for Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild in particular. Just felt a little too wild or unwieldy. Bought it for Wii U because I liked the traditional feel of it.
Won’t ever be buying the PS one for two reasons: price (wooof) and I don’t have a single problem with the stock one.
@KaijuKaiser I’m gonna have to agree with you. You can tell things are just being held back by…something. You’re likely correct, it’s at least one of the reasons.
This generation is so weird… PS5 graphics are great on some games but when I buy a PS5 dedicated game I expect Demon’s Souls levels of graphical quality. Even Death Stranding’s PS5 upgrade is of note. Those two games continue to be a high water marks in expectations.
It’s disappointing to read it looks like a late PS4 game. Last, please don’t get me wrong- I do not buy games for graphical prowess alone but I do expect some actual next-gen fidelity to warrant the purchase I made.
Oh well. Still buying but just wanted to unload that.
I’m an outlier: I have no idea what Forspoken is and I haven’t bothered looking up what kind of game it even is or what it is (I see in this article though it’s from Squenix and is an action RPG.) I just started seeing the name pop up like 2-3 weeks ago and I come to this site multiple times daily. I have no connection or reference to it so as of now I have no plans to buy it.
Death Stranding FTW! I’m working through my second playthrough and trying to do all the premium deliveries. The game is just so good and addicting. I feel like I’ve become a MULE myself.
As someone who cherishes Metal Gear, Metal Gear is not Metal Gear without a metal Gear’s creator Hideo Kojima. Without Kojima on board, and I hope he somehow is despite the rumored falling out, I am highly tempering my expectations. We need David Hayter and we need Hideo. Without those 2, well, I dunno. Remasters are welcome!!! Existing content available on new platforms. New entries without Kojima? I dunno, dude… I just don’t know.
I mean the game looks great and I want it but also…. Money. I seldom buy brand new games for this reason and I haven’t mainly because of the increase from 60-70-80. It’s too much of a risk anymore.
I really hope they stick to the original formula. The town is silent hill and it needs to feel isolated and confusing. If it goes all apocalypse and starts devouring the world I’ll be so upset. I really hate when things like that happen (like when the world finds out a super hero’s identity or when it doesn’t feel isolated anymore.) Keep silent hill creepy and isolated!
I’m for Bloober doing it. If you played the Medium, you’ll see how they’re a perfect fit. Not saying you had to love The Medium, I’m saying you just had to see and hear it. Personally, my only issue with The Medium was the sluggish movement, that’s it.
I need to go back and give Axiom Verge 2 another shot. I dunno it just wasn't hitting the same as the first for me. I know for a fact the color palette was part of it, which I know is stupid, but hey, that's like, uh, my opinion, man.
Loved it. I think the repeat bosses and similar boss names subtracted from the overall world/lore but otherwise this was amazing. Prior to this I beat DS1, 2, 3 and I felt like this was a combination of all the from games into one package. Honestly this is my favorite game next to death stranding now. It really takes a lot for me to get into open world games but both death stranding and elden ring really brought something new to the “open-world genre.”
Last thing I’ll say is it’s going to take a lot to top Elden Ring. I think it’s quite perfect as is. I played on PS5 and never experienced anything weird or off with it and the graphics are fantastic.
Shadow of the Colossus is like peak storytelling and world building. It’s my absolute favorite of the “trilogy.”
Only improvement I’d have made is filling the overworld with more stuff (the in between moments were a bit blank.) But I think it’s the perfect game otherwise honestly. It’s just absolutely beautiful in all aspects. What a love story…
No Death Stranding submissions?! That game has so much potential for this kind of stuff. Congrats to all who submitted and won! Great shots all around.
I’ve been itching to pick it up again. I bought it at launch, beat it a few months after, started NG+, and then put it to bed for a bit. It totally engulfed my life for those few months and I loved every second of it! Looking forward to any and all DLC for this game.
"We'd warrant tempering expectations on that front slightly, as singular creatives have made similarly grandiose claims in the past and are worth taking with a hearty heaping of salt."
Yeah, but seriously ask yourself if there is a better candidate. This is the guy to do it if any. He's always had one foot in literature, one in film, one in video games. I realize that gives him 3 legs but I guess that just further proves my point.
I’ve JUST NOW decided I will not be buying this game. It looks too frantic (perhaps for my current older self) and I’m noticing lots of blatant pop-in that I wouldn’t expect to be happening this generation. It looks like a bunch of short sequences stitched together. I can’t tell if the video is cut and restarting at points 😬 It’s too quick/twitchy and hectic/sporadic for me.
I cringed just looking at that “$199.99” price point. I can think of so many other things I could get with that or even put that amount toward. To each their own though!
I’m sooooo -> excited. I have no reason to believe this isn’t going to be dripping quality. The only thing I can say is, one other reader mentioned how the opening scene with the James in the mirror didn’t quite capture that utter “mystique” from the original. James was pale and sickly looking almost like a serial killer. I do agree there that the remake didn’t quite hit that but still, I’m more than willing to play through this and I know I’m going to enjoy it. I’ve always loved just exploring the town and trying to open doors everywhere. Can’t wait!! I feel like this is targeting a March release…
I’m mixed on this but I will say this:
60fps should not be used for game cinematics. Lower, around 45, gives a more filmy cinematic look and I much prefer that for cut scenes. Gameplay, however, especially for racing games, should have 60fps as at least an option.
If not, I feel like PS4 to PS5 isn’t quite that big of a jump in tech/games then. The only benefit then is the non-existent load times which are awesome of course but…
Completely cut me off. As a matter of fact, I never was going to get it so as long as my included controller works fine. I’m gaming since the days of NES and never had a controller fail so like I said, was never getting one anyway regardless.
