@Zeke68 Sony doesn't need to buy any of those companies, they just need to buy console exclusivity and pay enough money to keep new releases away from GamePass.
Its way cheaper and more effective than going on an acquisition spree.
People often forget, but during the 7th gen some games on PS3 were shafted not only because the architecture was complex but also because MS paid quite a sum of money for "optimizations" on 360 ports.
It's not Sony's fault Microsoft was incompetent enough to release a botched Halo TV series. Although I think anyone should've seen that coming since for the last 10 years they've been releasing botched Halo games.
Anyways, using TLoU tv series isn't a good example when you also have the Uncharted movie. A movie that was "successful" but failed to meet expectations, it barely hit the 400M box office mark.
@NEStalgia Yeah yeah, sure Windows is not a monopoly on PC. Try running all of your productivity software on Linux or Mac, let's see how it goes.
Face it, Windows is a monopoly on many fronts, and it only became so by doing the exact thing they are doing with ABK acquisition, buying other companies and pushing competitors out of market.
"Microsoft has until 7th April to build its defence and gather information to support the deal. Part of that defence seemingly revolves around Sony and its production capabilities [...]"
I'm no law expert, but Microsoft has like 20+ studios, Sony has less than that and Ninty has even less than Sony. Yet, quality wise both Sony and Nintendo have the capabilites of pushing more heavy hitting titles than Microsoft because their management is good, almost half of their studios are small support teams and basically none of their big studios are idling.
I know this might sound like a good case for MS lawyers, but for me this just spells "either 20 incompetent studios or just bad management overall"
Y'know, HBO's series is a derivative work, you don't usually get credits in those unless they pick you to be the public face of the OG piece. I doubt other leads were credited too.
Also, this is a minor issue and mostly a vanity one, it would be a major issue if his name was plucked from TLoU Remaster or even the Remake or if he wasn't allowed to say he worked on the project.
The eyecatch here is that rumoured new PS5 model with a new devkit. If it was just a new hardware revision there would be no need for a new devkit, maybe they are cooking something extra with that new PS5.
Coming from Spencer this is clearly a lie. C'mon, that's the guy who said "we should rethink our relationship with ABK after these sexual misconduct scandals" and then one later announced the acquisiton. The same guy who said "we won't do a price increase in the short term" and then three months later raised the prices anyways.
He's a pathological liar and MS has the money to deal with any contract breach.
Too bad the reward for this favor is too underwhelming. 5 points in all of your stats does basically nothing, it does not bypass the super armor minibosses have, nor does remove the annoying stagger they have.
Y'know, if it was just because of Patreon I would understand, no one wants to work without getting paid. But his Elon excuse sounds to me he doesn't want competition and decided to quit while he's ahead.
If anything, Plague Tale and Gotham Knights devs should be called out for being incompetent since those games also have performance issues on PC.
As for the "60FPS isn't possible going forward", yeah, I call that *****. I mean, Nintendo is using AMD's FSR 1.0 in some key titles like Splatoon 3, Switch Sports and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in order to maintain graphics or stable framerates.
Devs should be able to use tech like to at least deliver 1440p@120FPS on PS5/XSX quite easily since both consoles have RDNA2, which enables FSR 2.0, which in turn has more performance than what Nintendo is using.
It was never about raw power, but rather smart use of tech.
I highly doubt we will get a new trailer today. This is a major release for Square so some hype is bound to be made before any trailers and we didn't get any hype.
I don't get why people are complaining, price on this type of controller revolves around 170 bucks, if they had tech like haptics and stuff they would sell for around 190~210.
Any State of Play or PS Showcase that could happen would happen close to God of War launch given Sony's history. They always do that to hype big releases.
Nothing new in the industry, but usually when a company advertise premium support it goes like "Direct access to support" or something along those lines.
Also, not sure why would people need it, the support where I live isn't awful and their reply is as quick as possible.
I wish for a free update, but that will depend on whether or not those games will be simply ported or if they'll have to write some parts from scratch, because PSVR2 inputs and tracking are way different than PSVR.
My main gripe is the fact that they waste too much of everyone's time. Look, I'm here just to see some new release and watch some gameplay, be as direct as you can. Hell, even Sakurai released a video on how to do a presentation and its basically what Nintendo do with their Directs.
As much as Nintendo strayed from what Iwata's vision for Direct was, it is still more simple and straight to the point than whatever Disney and Ubisoft tried.
Given that Nintendo anounced a while ago that they would cut the packaging of Switch in 20% in order to combat the increasing price of logistics, which is probably the main reason why Sony had to raise prices, I would say that Sony shot itself in the foot with the current design of PS5.
Inflation even made Nintendo cut around 20% of the packaging they use for Switch in order to maintain the current price and avoid any hike in price due to logistics. So yeah, I think Sony could've at least tried to do something like that before gouging our wallets.
Anyway, while MS might not raise the price, expect less Series X in the wild and more Series S.
Honestly I would trade the swap analog feature for a hall effect analog. Also, depending on the price I'd rather buy some kits and mod the og dualsense.
I remember some art director, I think it was Grassetti from God of War, saying that the job of an art director also consists in researching what the team is using for reference and making sure it isn't a 1/1 copy.
Timed exclusives, or exclusives as a whole, aren't new in this industry, even Xbox had quite a few like Death's Door last year.
Now, what's new for me is telling people "We shouldn't do business with companies that have abuse allegations" and then proceed to buy that company the very next week, perpetrators will even receive a fat reward for their bad behaviour of turning a blind eye for said allegations. Thanks Phil!
Nothing new here, Sony has been going like this for quite a while now, plus I don't think they have anything to show other than that co-dev worplace they helped to fund.
Instead of investing in Live Services, Sony should invest more in communication because almost all of the latest blunders were related to either not communicating or not knowing your fanbase well.
@wiiware Emulators on PC are way too different than what we see in Xbox/Switch/PS.
I could go on and on, but the short version of this is, PC not only has better hardware to run emulators, they also have a plethora of APIs to do so, if a game doesn't work good on DirectX you can change the API to Vulkan or OpenGL and it should probably work better.
Also, emulation has to be tackled on a per game basis on consoles instead of a per system basis we often see on PC.
Still baffles me that people were expecting performance like ePSXE/PCSX2 out of the box.
Took Nintendo a couple of months to get N64 emulator working properly on Switch despite having access to N64's documentation and architecture, and even then new games released still have some kinks to be ironed out.

Re: Sony Has Approximately $5 Billion Left for Acquisitions and Investments
$5 Billion huh.
Well, I'd either pull a Tencent and buy some stakes in companies or I'd buy exclusive rights to some games, mainly huge japanese IPs.
Re: PS5 Firmware Update Beta Invites Discord to the Party
Kinda hoping for a HDMI 2.0 VRR support for the next big update.

The fact that Sony skipped a 1440p monitor means we'll probably never get that resolution on PS5.
