@StylesT Night and day usually means you have to get a personal experience with the subject in question ir order to make an educated decision whether or not that product is for you.
Kinda like OLED TVs, home theaters, cars and so on, online reviews are only a part of the whole equation.
I'm no expert, but if the first place sold just 4,000 copies over Astro that means it was a weak week.
Overall hardware sales don't look that bad, Switch is the best selling console over that side and that will hardly shift, Playstation being second is just natural at this point.
That is only for native 4K, no current console can run native 4K@60, and honestly nor they should given the price.
But what if GTA is targeting upscaled 4K from a 1440p resolution? Its doable to get upscaled 4K60 if your input is a stable 1440p@60, at least on DLSS.
Cool and all, but you see, smartphone market has more than two competitors, prices are still hiking to the point most flagship models are around the $800 USD ballpark.
Its not the lack of competition, its the damn inflation making prices go up.
@SuntannedDuck2 TBH we are in a flash ram shortage right now, prices of everything from SSDs/RAM/VRAM is going up to the point some GPU manufacturers are releasing cards with memory downgrades.
Case in point, 4070 Super with GDDR6 instead of the more expensive GDDR6X
Sony has lots of IPs, but most of them aren't as profitable as a new IP. And most of them also need a total overhaul in order to catch up with the new IPs.
Also, Sony lacks the personel necessary to develop those IPs since most of them are IPs developed by second party studios back in the PS1/PS2 era
@kuu_nousee Helldivers is a different case, and so it would be any other game or any other genre. But Concord and Fairgame$ are cut from the same cloth, except that Fairgame$ trailer was disliked from start.
@AdamNovice Live service push wasn't wrong, its the way they did that was wrong.
It is almost like the ones responsible to deliver reports forgot to do basic market research, figure out what genres were strong within the platform, which one could trend, who is the target demographic and so on.
If this was done properly, I doubt Sony would buy the studio or better, if this was done properly Concord would be a very different game.
I always find funny that its people from the art department losing their marbles when it comes to AI, it won't hit them and if it hits it will be probably on things that affects the pipeline and not them directly.
Its more cost effective to apply AI when it comes to coding than it is when it comes to 3D modeling, sound, mocap and so on, since code is easier to automate and doesn't depend on things like "artistic style".
Nah consoles won't ever go away and PC won't take over either.
I had a 770Ti that could handle whatever I threw at it running at either High/Very High 1080p@60, then I upgraded to a 2060 back in 2020 that literally can't handle most of games released in 2023/2024 at Medium 1080p@30.
@KevinDurCant This has less to do with Microsoft and more to do with Square awful management.
It feels like every AAA game coming from Square relies on money borrowed from other companies, this time the targets were NetEase, Tencent and Microsoft.
Nah, core gameplay isn't engaging enough and character design isn't attractive enough.
This isn't a No Man's Sky/Cyberpunk situation, where the core gameplay was solid and they just needed time to fix things, this is a real design problem and the only solution is to scrap all, like they did with FF14 1.0
I'd bet that a fighting game and a MMO would also fare better than Concord and Fairgame$ too, Playstation as a brand is already familiar with both genres and there's a good track record from other games like that since the PS3 era.
When it comes to GAAS, instead of chasing whatever is in vogue, they should focus on games that fit their current playerbase or at least on games that could fill a gap in their current lineup.
Helldivers 2 is literally a good example of a GAAS that works well for Sony, there's a lack of PvE coop games.
Jesus christ, that's a lot of comments. Anyways, compare Concord with Helldivers 2, both are live service but one was well received.
Sony NEEDS more games like Helldivers 2 and less games like Concord. I for one would like to see something like a fighting game from Sony, or maybe a MMO.
Bottom line is there are better alternatives to enter the live service market, hero shooters aren't hot right now.
@__jamiie I highly doubt Nintendo will release a console costing more than $299. It isn't their MO and it is against their strategy.
Sub $300 has been their price point for at least two decades, they know any product they release will sell like hotcakes since it will be cheap and there is no competition at that price.
@Specky Consoles will never be able to fully support mods because they are a closed ecosystem and mods inherently tamper with a lot of stuff that is handled by the anti-piracy security those systems have in place.
What some game haves are """mods""", which are basically DLCs allowed by both console manufacturers and game publishers.

Wow, no Super 17?
I feel robbed because he was one of my mains during BT3 era.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 'Hugely Improved' on PS5 Pro, a 'Night and Day' Difference
Great, it means that if used the right way PSSR might allow for DLSS-like experience in consoles, which is great despite the sticker shock.
But then again, a card with the same feature set is around $700 too.

Re: PS5 Players Choose Performance Mode 75% of the Time
I play mostly in performance, unless performance is broken.
Case in point, BG3 and Spidey 2 at launch.
Re: Sony to Start Selling Refurbished PS5 Consoles
I owned a refurbished before and they work pretty fine.
Sure, it was a refurbished 3DS, but still.
Re: Despite Price Point, Analyst Firm Expects PS5 Pro to Sell Like PS4 Pro
At launch? Yes, it will sell roughly the same amount as PS4 Pro did, but the falloff after that will be greater without some price cuts.
Re: 'It Felt Like Putting New Glasses On,' Claims First PS5 Pro Hands On
Well, for me the highlight of that piece was the fact that they are using AMD tech that isn't available on the market yet.

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive?
Right now? Sure it is, we don't even have games that will take advantage of this new tech.
I'll do what I did with PS4 Pro and wait 2 years before buying one, by the time I get one there will be plenty of games to play anyways.
Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny
Technical showcase means no games, they'll probably show games at TGS.
Anyways, hope it is on the cheap side of things, like $650.
Re: 80s Synthpop Stars Heaven 17 Resist the Temptation of PS5's GTA 6
So, why should a third party random schmuck get any royalties when the devs working their asses off aren't getting any?
This is the absurd part to me.
Re: Sony: It's Massively Important PS Studios Develops Games in Various Genres
Good, given the amount of Ape Escape content I saw in Astro Bot I expect a new Ape Escape dropping soon.
Re: Days Gone Director Roasts 'Small Game' Astro Bot PS5 for Deacon St John Cameo
With that kind of mentality you can see why Days Gone was a flop. Even the PC release didn't change anything.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox Delay Isn't Due to Platform Limitations, Says Microsoft
Remember Enotria? Remember how they said Microsoft support was lacking and that's why they need to delay the Xbox version?

Same old song.
Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive
Same was said about Concord and look where we are now.
Just cut your losses and cancel Fairgame$.

Helldivers is a different case, and so it would be any other game or any other genre.

Re: Legendary Devil May Cry, Dragon's Dogma Director Hideaki Itsuno Leaves Capcom After 30 Years
Arcade Collection 2 was his last hurrah then, most of the games featured there had him as a director.
One more reason for me to buy that collection then.

Re: Dramatic Conflicts as Sony Accused of Signing Secret PS5 Exclusivity with Black Myth: Wukong
The lenght those people will go just to deny that Xbox Series is a failed console is quite amusing.
Wukong is as much of an exclusive as BG3 was.

Money devaluation is no joke, I think it was either Brazil or Argentina, one of them has the PS5 costing around $1000.

NGL, cover image looks like a better MK1 promo than we get from WB/NetherRealm Studios.

It gets worse once you see Deadlock's concurrent players right now. That game isn't even out yet mind you.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Was Allegedly Being Talked About Openly at Gamescom

Re: Black Myth: Wukong Has Sold an Astonishing 10 Million Copies in Three Days on PS5, PC
So, Wukong is clearing out PS5 stocks, GPU stocks and also sold 10M copies?
Damn, Microsoft took a heavy blow on this one.
Re: Floatopia Could Surpass Animal Crossing on PS5

Another Duke Nukem Forever fail then.
At least Duke Nukem was fun.
Re: People Are Already Freaking Out Over Monster Hunter Wilds' PS5 Frame Rate

Switch OLED and Wii U Deluxe are special editions, and those are usually priced higher than the MSRP.

Doom and gloom where exactly? I mean, unless you're on team green things are going well enough despite the world economic state not being on its best.

Re: Embracer CEO Says PC, Console Segment the 'Bad Guy', Video Games a 'Volatile' Business
Yeah, maybe next time don't go on a buying spree just to try to flip your acquisitions to Saudi Arabia later with a higher price.
Also, gaming market is quite predictable, but people insist on not giving the players what they want.
Re: Stellar Blade Dev Expects to Sell More Copies on PC Than PS5
There are more PCs than consoles so that's a given.
Re: Black Myth: Wukong Is Another Game Over 100GB on PS5
I have 2TB and I often delete games that I ain't playing anymore, size isn't a concern.
Now, I'd like to see some performance metrics before deciding if I should purchase this or just skip it.
