@theSpectre I've thought that for a while. Most people with a lick of sense would be thinking the same. They put all their eggs in one basket out of a final push for desperation to make a dent in gaming and it failed. Even Phil Spencer said during the ABK trial it hasn't seen the growth he would have liked.
Gotta make you wonder if GamePass really is sustainable. Sounds like there's money problems over in Xbox land. Lay off thousands of employees in January, shutting down studios and now porting games to PlayStation with supposedly more on the way? At this point I'd be worried as an Xbox only customer.
I really didn't see it as a big deal. The thing is, the people that have been telling folks like me that "all digital is the future!" And "lol I've been buying games on Steam for 20 years!" "Physical is long dead" etc, etc.
You'd have thought those (PC) people would be the last to complain about online accounts since they're advocates of all things digital.
I wonder if they complain about needing a Steam account to play games...
@Nei
Surrey Quays Road? Hey! I actually used to live on Ainsty Estate in the 90's on Brunel Road in Rotherhithe. 10 minute walk from the Quays and I remember the day GAME opened there. And they were a little later giving out the reward cards when they first came out for free. Still have my original.
@DaniPooo
Absolutely not, they should do something. I've said for years the gaming industry and platform holders need some real regulation. It's become a much bigger and serious money making business and let's face it we the customers have been gouged and taken advantage of in some ways. True, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to but that doesn't excuse the fact that real regulation is needed. It's about time authorities took notice. MTX prices used to be like 0.99 for some cosmetic or something small. Now you can see some reach 4 digits, that's not micro. I mean Konami charged £9.99 for the colour blue in MGS Survive? Really?
@DaniPooo
I mean I'm just saying if the situation is the same across all the platforms then fair is fair. But I don't know if the prices on the Xbox store are the same. I assume so.
I thought digital pricing was the same across all the storefronts? Unless I'm not understanding this correctly. And if so why is Sony being singled out?
I'm not happy about the PS+ essential price hike that I've just paid for the year. I'm not happy that they've stopped allowing stores to sell codes. And the price disparity between physical and digital games is one thing that prevents me switching my habit. I get most games atleast £10 cheaper on physical than digital.
I just don't see MGS4 making the cut. Think about it the game relied heavily on the CBE which has serious compatibility issues with AMD APU's so the game would have to be completely re-engineered for use with a different architecture. Given the quite frankly lazy effort on vol1 ports being just that, ports I don't see Konami putting in the work. It'll likely just be, MGS5, MGS: Peace Walker, MGS: Ground Zeroes, MGS: Rising and of course that generic zombie survival masquerade that'll sell microtransactions.
I guess we'll see. Either way I personally still have the Legacy Collection on PS3.
I've been on metacritic being nosey and there's a particular bunch giving the game a 0 for reasons that sound baffling while their profiles show StarField and RedFall at 10's. Weird that.
Personally I'm loving the game. A 10, I wouldn't say that high but it's solid and fun. I bought the game physically as I lean there where possible and didn't experience the installation issues that some have and so far no bugs for me either, must just be lucky. I still say Zelda will likely snatch GotY though even though Spider-Man in name alone carries itself.
And people say the fallout between Konami and Kojima has been repaired. (It hasn't) they could have atleast given an honourable mention but this pettiness proves it. I doubt he cares though now having his own studio and free to work on whatever he wants.
@UltimateOtaku91
Well if that's the full extent but I still don't trust the man. It would be naive to and almost everything he's ever said his actions are the opposite.
Especially with Phil's comment right after the ABK acquisition "This is just the begining".
He's not going to stop until he "spends Sony out of the industry".
I guess sore losers just take all the toys away when no one like them.
I got my physical edition day one, if I didn't I probably would. Although it's unknown if the faceplates are/will be customisable and I've ordered the Silver ones for January along with the controller for those Satin Silver PS2 vibes. And can't wait to put them on.
That's great news. Let Microsoft and everyone else have those watered down mediocre experiences. You guys just keep developing those fantastic single player games most of us bought a PlayStation for.
Sounds like Totoki is a restructure kind of guy and maybe PlayStation needs that to be put back on its path. First order of business, get out of commie-fornia and move back to Tokyo. This guy being well informed into SIE as a whole sounds perfect to be the new CEO permanently. Failing that I'd take Shu Yoshida. He deserves it for all he's contributed to PlayStation and the industry. And he's a gamer who understands the roots.
That timeframe of porting 'exclusives' to PC is getting shorter and shorter all the time. Almost makes one question if it's worth owning a PlayStation anymore when you get better value in the form of a 'complete edition' with better performance and usually a lower price than it's console counterpart not too far away.
As a day one PS4 and PS5 owner I feel like a second class citizen sometimes.
Buying Nintendo would be 'good for both companies?'. Phil Spencer is completely delusional no wonder you think you're 'saving the industry' and can't see your own double standards and BS.
Nintendo are doing better than both Xbox and PlayStation. The Switch is a huge runaway success and Nintendo IP's sell like hot cakes especially in Japan. I bet thats why he wants them, to corner Japan from Sony once and for all along with buying all the third parties. When will people open their eyes to Phil 'The Gamer' Spencer's true intentions?
Not that Nintendo would ever sell, that's laughable. How did he think that would go?
Just said this same thing over on PX, but
Phil literally said last week when asked specifically and directly about ES6 'case by case basis'. So not only is his mind already made up as the document reveals but he continues to skate around it or flat out lie to look good to regulators.
Everyone knew it wouldn't be on PS5 but we also know Phil will dance around it while regulators are on his case to get what he wants.
Personally I don't care. I've lost interest in Bethesda games and Starfield has proved that to me along with FO4. They've been on a downward spiral since Oblivion and Fallout 3. I prefer BioWare to Bethesda personally.
It was a bit of a learning curve to other RPG's but I'm absolutely loving it. I have a single player campaign and a separate 4-player multiplayer for me and my friends.
Sometimes it reminds me of a cross between DragonAge Origins and KotOR.
That score will get some people complaining it's stealing Starfield's thunder. Although given its reception I fully expect Tears of the Kingdom to take the official GOTY crown at the awards.
Just been to CDkeys. All PS+ voucher codes show 'out of stock' on them. ShopTo don't have them listed anymore either. Almost like they've disappeared from online stores overnight. Eerie that 'innit? Just as they announce a price hike?
@Sneakyfox
Read my previous comments on my profile. I criticized it. All I said in that other comment is I can stomach it if it doesn't increase further.
btw you're spamming and double posting. I'd be careful, the mods might not be too pleased.
I don't play competitive multiplayer but I do use PS+ for cloud saves and occasional co-op.
At £60 per year (essential) I can stomach it. If it goes any higher than that they can shove it. When gaming goes full services I'm out anyway. Got a big enough library of current and retro games to last a lifetime and a big backlog for years to come.
I'm actually looking forward to the inevitable headline in about 4 months "PS+ subscribers decline on ALL tiers following price increases"
Maybe they'll see sense. But I doubt it. This'll be interesting. I was equally appalled when Microsoft did this and that stunt of stopping 'cheap' conversions and ending trials.
Congratulations Sony, you just handed services back to GamePass. And you were actually starting to really take off.
Just because everyone else increases prices doesn't mean you have to. Keep it down and attract MORE people. And get even MORE money than potentially losing customers and interest. It's not rocket science.
I'm only on essential and held firm but I'll definitely never 'upgrade' now. It's not worth it.
And it's no secret that Ubisoft "will consider offers to be bought". Who wants to bet that Microsoft will buy them as soon as the ink dries on ABK? Thus getting all the "streaming rights" under their own control. Never trust them.
If that's real it's the most pathetic excuse for a 'slim' I've ever seen. But not at all surprised as it would either require a new APU with a more efficient die for cooling or a better cooling solution to the current to make the heat sink and chassis smaller. Neither of which I can see being plausible right now.
As for the slits and extra USB C? likely a slot for the detachable disc drive and the USB C port a connector for it since I doubt it will use USB A or have an external connection to the motherboard.
Meanwhile you're sniffing your parasitic nose up Square Enix's butt who have always had a great relationship with PlayStation and nobody is questioning your email to "spend Sony out of business" which is happening right under their noses.
I'd urge you to compete by creating actual games and IP's and actually contribute to the industry rather than buy everything and limit people's choices.
I think it'll pick up even more once the cross gen games have completely stopped and system sellers arrive. I think Spider-Man will make it surge like crazy. It did for the PS4.
And Xbox just got reported that console sales are down. PlayStation consoles always have a much bigger appeal even with trickled "next gen" games it seems. But console gaming has always been their strength and their first party IP's are arguably unrivalled. I think it's time to start bringing back some dormant ones though. Resistance for one as many have said with the proper care and time to establish could rival other shooters if completely rebooted.
Remaster the others and reboot the franchise. Oh, and where is MediEvil 2 remake Sony?
What is wrong with the gaming industry lately? Acquisitions, financial struggles, layoff, development hell, cancellations all over the place. It's all going to pot.
Microsoft better not get the sniffer dogs out. They've taken enough away. If anything Sony could do with a dedicated RPG developer after losing Zenimax.
Remake and reboot Resistance! Sony need to start establishing a shooter of its own to compete with CoD when it gets pulled from under them in 10 years time. Show MS you don't need to BUY everything to compete. Gears already has a formula of ideas to build a new reboot of resistance that could have potential to win gamers over.
I disagree with both of you. StarField looks very bland and boring to me. Since Oblivion and Fallout 3 Bethesda games have been declining imo. Spider-Man looks far more enjoyable.
And @Batsugun887 with all due respect you don't know what I own or my financial situation to make such assumptions and insults based on a video game. Sounds like I touched a nerve. Saved up for Halo and DMC? then I'm likely older than you at 35 with a comfortable financial situation to afford any game at full price anytime. And I grew up with the NES fwi.
StarField doesn't stand a chance at GotY against a name and system seller like Spider-Man. The name alone will carry it and it looks great.
Revised model imminent no doubt about it. I'll sell my day one physical for a slim (WITH a disc drive) because I stand by my thoughts from day one that the PS5 is too big and the most hideous console ever made. Just saying.
First thought is what does this have to do with the case lol.
Though I guess it's the usual time for some sort of new cheaper version, if advancements in tech actually allow it
Because Microsoft be like;
"See! SEE!! they're more successful than us, we told you! Pleeeease we need this! Waaaahh!" 😆
@themightyant
I see. Didn't realise that. Either way I already have them safely on a drive for offline personal use so I've ensured I'm fine for the future. And I'm sure there will be other places that will host them eventually outside of Sony servers when it becomes known the will shut them down. Can't say too much here on that kind of method of course but I'm sure the community will see us right one way or another.
@themightyant
Except, they do. I've already downloaded the .pkg files from their website and stored them on an external drive for all the games I own. They're hosted in multiple 4GB .pkg increments that then had to be recompiled into a single file using a third-party program. Then, using custom firmware I can install those files manually offline via the USB drive using a homebrew application called pkg installer which will then install the patch version I downloaded and any missing data.
Some of the updates are huge as you know so required multiple parts of the increments to recompile.
There are several videos on YouTube detailing how to do it and fully tested.
I've only done that for future proofing though. Just in case.
@BAMozzy
As I just said above this isn't about licencing. In most cases most of the game data is on the disc minus any day one or future patches. That's where the archive above comes in. I have obtained the patches and missing data from my discs.
There are two ways to do it.
One, connect to their custom DNS in your console connection settings and the archive will patch your installed physical game. No different than doing so from Sony's servers. Or,
Two. They can be installed offline via USB by backing up the files from the archive.
All I'm saying here is physical buyers who know about this method are fine forever. My post has nothing to do with the "ownership" or "licence". Because when the time comes that won't matter anyway.
Not sure if you're not sure what I mean. Basically. Install my disc game. Insert a USB drive or enter a DNS. Then it will download everything that was ever missing up to date and I can play if we are no longer able to connect to Sony services. That's what it does.
@BAMozzy With respect, discs are far from obsolete. This (https://orbispatches.com/) archive hosts all of the official game updates, patches and missing data from physical versions meaning that in the future when the servers go offline you can install them by obtaining them from places like here.
I just wish more people knew about it. I personally have already backed up every current patch for every physical game I own for the future when we inevitably get screwed.
They are also building an archive for the PS5. It's completely legal and a safeguard for physical buyers.
@UltimateOtaku91 [Well they could just make online play free or just make a basic service that maybe costs £3.99 per month that includes online play and cloud storage.]
Don't talk sense! That's crazy! This is the gaming industry, sensible talk is not allowed. Think corporate. Take the monthly games away and raise the price. That's the way! 😂
I'd be all over a low cost tier for cloud saves and online play. I only play online co-op with friends now and again in some RPG's and such.

With respect, discs are far from obsolete.

[Well they could just make online play free or just make a basic service that maybe costs £3.99 per month that includes online play and cloud storage.]
