Re: Gamers Are Reportedly More Interested in Watching Games Than Actually Playing Them

Jaxx420

@DanteDevilHunter Depends. I've been known to watch game vids or walkthroughs if it's something on a console I don't own that I am curious about.

The data isn't isolated to games someone may have already purchased so could be 101 reasons for the viewing.

For me it's the above plus the odd puzzle hint and review. I wouldn't say I watch them more than I play them though.

Re: Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.06 Fails to Fix PS5 Pro Problems

Jaxx420

@Rich33 you summed it up perfectly. PSSR is in it's infancy it's going to have teething issues. As a third party dev unless it's going to drive up sales don't rush that shizz out - wait.

It'll be refined smooth out next year in time for the big hitters (GTA etc) which was probably the end goal anyway. Rockstar will have a whole year+ with it.

Re: Silent Hill 2 Patch 1.06 Fails to Fix PS5 Pro Problems

Jaxx420

@Major_Player have you got a source saying it's definitely the issue

Pop us a link over if you do I am curious.

I think it could be partially to do with it but also the hardware being rushed to market so Devs maybe haven't had as much time to work with it as they would like

There are cases where it has worked and worked well (FFVII Rebirth is one example) and some of Sony's own titles.

I don't think PSSR is solely the issue as much as it is the short amount of time Devs have had to make it work. That's the problem imo. It was rushed out to sell to people in time for the holidays.

Re: Metacritic Responds to Ongoing Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review Bombing Campaign

Jaxx420

@themightyant It's not even just politically charged bs anymore. It's influencers and celebrities creating division too.

I don't know if you are from the UK so may need to Google the example names here, but people should have freedoms to do and pick what they want. Trouble is you have for example Katie Hopkins at one end and Sam Smith at the other who go to such extremes and have such massive followings the division is almost created on social media alone outside of politics.

Now said division has come into the gaming space and it's sad really. People should just be able to enjoy a game. If you don't like it simply don't buy it. Review bombing it does nothing but cause harm to the morale of the developers, QA testers, support staff etc that work so hard to create it in the first place.

Can only imagine the chaos if GTA VI goes in a similar direction.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for September 2024?

Jaxx420

I think the fact it was announced at short notice in the first place told me not to expect megaton after megaton.

So with that going into it I was quite pleased. And albeit just a trailer great to see initial glimpse at a first party game for next year. I am sure there will be a few more to follow over the coming months.

Re: Mark Cerny's Feedback on PS5's Astro Bot: 'Now This Is a Game'

Jaxx420

@Neither_scene AAA (I hate the term personally) imo shouldn't be defined by budget should be by quality. Call me old school but a good game is a good game budget irrelevant to me.

If we go by quality from what I've seen so far at least definitely Triple A and we need more like it.

Re: Scathing Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Previews Unfavourably Compare Gameplay to PS Vita's Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Jaxx420

@NEStalgia @Medic_alert Oh I agree with this so much and it really hit home quite recently. Got a new game had worked a 60 hour week so far thought I'll get some downtime before the next day and try this out. Got maybe 75% through a tutorial section and it was time to hit the sack ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Some games are just a bit too much these days.

Re: Scathing Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Previews Unfavourably Compare Gameplay to PS Vita's Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Jaxx420

It's sticking to a basic overused formula and relying on the brand to sell it.

I think Eurogamer are being slightly harsh singling this out for it as I am sure we could name countless other games that do that.

I think it's simply going to be one of those games that if you love Star Wars you will have a blast and if you don't you might not find much to enjoy about it.

Sounds very familiar either way.

Re: PS5 Fans Beg Sony for a More Fulfilling Livestream in the Aftermath of Xbox Show

Jaxx420

Sony have shied away recently from showing any games that are a while out from release as they did in previous years. Astro Bot has only been recently revealed and it's out in a few months.

I think it's the right move but it's backfiring on them because of lack of communication in general. Xbox in contrast are being very vocal right now.

They are lacking a mouthpiece is the problem. Shu is in a different role now and they never really outright replaced Shawn Layden or Adam Boyes.

They need someone in place who can be out there being vocal with fans.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Jaxx420

@__Seraph Bloobers games have always felt like old school horror games but all in, good but including the bad bits awkward control schemes etc.

Ironically having a go at remaking an old school horror in that sense probably suits them. If they can recreate that old school horror atmosphere the game had the controls etc don't need to be perfect for that. So I am looking forward to this.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Jaxx420

I think people's expectations were skewed.

Let's be realistic. Without them coming out and saying it we know they have restructured to put less emphasis on the live service stuff and have more of an even split. They have been clear how their studios are set up now but doesn't take a genius to know this will now delay output from Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch and the like.

We have seen the issue before on PS and now seeing it on Xbox too Fable for example. I would much rather see the games revealed when they are close to ready ie months from release.

Secondly they have also shied away from showing CGI trailers of games that are a way off. All of the first party in this SOP due out this year but that also creates the caveat of then not showing what the key studios are working on as it's not ready.

I think we will just have to take it on the chin and temper expectations this year. I think 2025 will be a bit stronger.

I personally would rather not see logos, trailers etc for games that are miles from release.

Re: Poll: Will the Rumoured PlayStation Showcase Be Announced Soon?

Jaxx420

I think from a first party point of view particularly with the live service side that I think will have mostly been canned off now it's going to be a quiet 2024.

But with recent dev comments today and all the rumours I think Playstation is in for a big 2025 so it's important they show what's coming and a showcase right now would be just the right time to do it so I hope it's inbound.

Re: Older Live Service Titles Take Up Over 60% of Overall Playtime, Report Says

Jaxx420

I'll catch some backchat for this but in the case of GTA 5 Rockstar got the balance right. Quality single player experience which had replay value. Lost count of the amount of times I replayed it. Then an online they could tap into and make all of that cash the others were milking.

As long as they don't dilute the single player side of GTA 6 or worse integrate the two. I'd be happy with that.

Re: Sony and Microsoft Sign a 'Binding Agreement' to Keep Call of Duty on PlayStation

Jaxx420

@HonestHick Agree. It was always going to go through and despite any posturing from Sony they have ultimately done what is best for business anyway. Whole load of drama for nothing.

Regardless of what happens next any consolidation worries aside. I doubt either the FTC or CMA will get involved anymore now so any other deals on this scale will probably get far less scrutiny.
