@Foxhound I think that also says a lot about the state of the current AAA gaming market. There was a time when the mere suggestion that you could get four years into a console cycle and still be playing last gen games would have been laughable.
@Enuo Rey Skywalker AKA Daisy Ridley is incredibly beautiful. She is also the de-facto go-to example of a woke Mary Sue character regardless of how fair that is.
@MikeOrator Sorry, but it's not just one example. There are great lists of them across all media. I actually doubt that we would even be having this conversation if large amounts of pattern recognition was not in play.
Regardless of what you may think about ''certain'' Youtube channels, you cannot build up a million subs talking about just a couple of instances. Such channels require vast amounts of new content to keep the fires burning.
@MikeOrator
''But to claim it's bad writing or poor characterizations is just plain ignorant.''
Because that Saints Row Reboot was just a veritable feast of great writing and excellent characters. The ''Waffle Maker Man'' was just so engrossing! I didn't miss Johnny Gat at all, no siree!
Oh and btw, yes, the intention was to ''force it down your throat''. The lead developer even said so on Twitter during his unprofessional rants against the old fanbase.
Corporations used to love all of these pathetic fanboy console wars because it was free publicity and it kept an army of loyal customers/cult members. But unless those same people are willing to pay $120 a game they simply are not making enough money back to cover their loses.
@MrMeeeseeeks Go and pay a visit to the Akira Toriyama thread to see just how much people love anime. I find your comment very disrespectful today of all days.
There is no question that gaming was in a creative renaissance during the 80s-00s. Pretty much all of our big ips come fron this time. And what helped is that games were still relatively cheap to make back then. Nowadays it all seems to be sequels, remasters, live-service and clones. Not that there aren't a few gems among them of course.
@ChrisDeku For every one Helldivers there are ten failures. Why do you think that so many studios are culling staff and talking about dialling back from AAA releases?
@Northern_munkey A popular game in my book has to have taken the world by storm. GTA, Fortnite, WoW, Minecraft, COD.
Horizon is semi-popular.
And regardless of that, as I already stated, it has sold precisely nothing in the MMO genre. The idea that people are going to abandon WoW or FF14 for this is pure fantasy.
What unique experience is this only semi-popular ip going to provide? Can it entice enough people away from the heavy hitters of its genre? Sorry, but in this over saturated market that is what you have to ask yourself. I think that releasing this is a waste of money tbh.
@itsfoz Even if I agreed with you, and I obviously don't, shall I tell you where they went wrong? Not giving you the option to kill her at the end. Doesn't matter if its canon or not. People were denied a satisfactory ending. Instead they got to see Ellie alone with no fingers strumming badly at a guitar. You may think that is satisfactory writing, I think that Ellie wouldn't have given up so easily and it is contrived that she does. Just my opinion though.
If you were to remove Fortnite, Minecraft, COD, and a couple of the other heavy hitters, I wonder how healthy the gaming industry actually is. Because this isn't a normal amount of job losses that we've seen this year.
@Kyushutrail The only award shows that somewhat matter are those voted for by the public. Anything that has a committee on it is normally ''gold for my mates'' and little else.
It costs more than a brand new PS5. Until that changes, VR will always be a failure. Anyone with a mortgage and an average job will never be able to justify this thing to themselves.
@REALAIS I refuse to admit that the PS5 is superior when pretty much 90% of its games can still easily be run on PS4. You cannot say that about the PS2 and PS3 to their respective predecessors. The PS5 is a small step forward, not a leap. And it will be remembered as such.
@sanderson72 The PS3 is Sony's best console to date and I will die on this hill. Final Fantasy 13 and Metal Gear Solid 4 still look great to this day. And let's not forget that GTA5 is a PS3 game.
I just cannot see us saying the same thing about the PS5 in 15 years time, sorry.
I was over on PushSquare's sister site out of interest and they are largely just as bored with this whole thing as we are. Besides the fanboys of course who see this as some sort of win, but fanboys gonna fanboy on any console.
@Tecinthebrain Yeah, in retrospect, I should have worded this better. My bad. As i say, i have no problem with a realistic take, but I refuse to believe that anyone actually wants Lara to look THIS masculine.
If anything, I would say that it is just as sexist to say that "realistic" equals "plain" or "flat".
I bet that pretty much every single person reading this right now who is attracted to women took a good long look at Cindy in Final Fantasy 15. Or Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3. Or Ashley in RE4. Or any other game where there is a blonde with big boobs.
I have no problem whatsoever with making women "realistic", but I am sick to death of this smug, superior, holier-than-thou attitude that comes with it when we all know that you are looking exactly where I'm looking. The only difference between us is that I am not ashamed to admit it.
55 million PS5's sold, 123 million active users. This means that PS4 is still extremely popular which is FYI to those who are still wondering why it is so heavily supported. I can't see that changing any time soon.
It does amuse me how quickly the narrative on this game changed. I can't begin to tell you how many arguments I had with fanboys before it's release telling me that "No! Just because Immortal was a money hungry pos it doesn't mean this will be you hater!!"
Welcome to the real world of pattern recognition, friends.
Marketing ploy - nothing more. As others on here have said, this has turned something that would otherwise have been barely commented on into a dog whistle for the extremists on both sides.
And y'know what? It works. Here we are talking about it after all. We are probably worth millions in free advertising.
I've played every mainline GTA game since 2 and I have never been disappointed yet. Rockstar have earned my respect enough for me to say that it'll be well worth the wait. Get it right, not get it quick. Simple as that.
The money has always been in software. That is why so many companies sell their consoles at a loss.
I just do not see what is in it for MS to keep making the XBox when they can make a fortune on PC, mobile and PlayStation.
BTW, it absolutely will not take 20 years to remake this game. It really isn't that deep or complicated. I think FFX is far more likely. I love the game, but it really is showing its age now.
What i think that a lot of people who are supporting the junction system are missing is that on your first blind playthrough, you don't know about all of the card modding tricks. You don't know how broken Triple Triad is. You don't know which monsters have which spells.
Without a guide, without the meta, your first game is going to be standing there mashing X whilst farming the same mob of enemies 300 times. The system sucks for newbies.
And that is before we even get into the fact that it absolutely discourages spell casting. Every spell you use just makes your overall build weaker.
Video games have never been more popular or more profitable... and yet every few weeks it seems there are job cuts. Something is seriously amiss here. It seems to me that we have a very skewed image of the health of this industry. Outside of GTA5, Fortnite, COD etc. bloating the stats there is clearly an issue.
No, I don't like this. It turns what should be a series of natural choices into a technical exercise. But as someone smarter than me once said "if given the choice, humans will engineer the fun out of their game every single time "

Meh. I'm withholding my excitement until i see what it turns out like. Metal Gear without Kojima is not a prospect that fills me with hope tbh.

Just a thought.

@MrMeeeseeeks Stop playing naive with me, i don't buy it. Your exact words are "who even likes anime?" not "I do not like anime".
And on the day where thousands are pouring out their grief for the most famous anime/manga writer of all time, you come across as disrespectful.
