The problem for me with this show is that I just never bought Pedro Pascal as a hardened survivalist type. Compare him to Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes for example.
It is software, not hardware, that brings in the profits. This has been known for thirty years and is behind the recent explosion in live service games. That is why companies will often knowingly sell a console at a loss.
Or in other words, the fact that the PS5 shipped more than the PS4 briefly is not as important as the actual game sales. And according to Wikipedia's ''bestselling games per console'' list, PS5 is MASSIVELY down on PS4. Go check for yourself.
They have released some pretty terrible games in recent years that lost a lot of money though. You cannot do that without consequences. Yes, Forspoken. I am looking at you.
@AhmadSumadi Bemusement is not the same thing as anger and it is unwise to confuse the two.
I do not know why anyone would buy this and even after having it explained to me I still do not understand. But only someone with severe mental issues would actually get angry by what someone else is enjoying. I haven't met any of these people and I suspect that you haven't either.
@get2sammyb PS Premium needs to be far better value than it currently is. It is very hard to justify its price right now imo. Put Tekken 3 on it. Original Resident Evil 2. Timesplitters. Gran Turismo 2. There are people who would flock to it I promise you.
Here is a great example as to why subscription services are false economy. Because whilst it looks great on paper, right here are 35 games leaving the service and I'm not going to miss any of them.
How many of you can truthfully say that you've played more than 10% of the PS Plus library via the service itself?
Calorie Mate in Metal Gear Solid 3 or Monster Energy in Death Stranding are fantastic examples of how to pull this off properly. There is nothing wrong with tastefully done, well executed advertising.
The ISSUE is if we start to get pop-ups or even commercial breaks disguised as loading screens. I am 99% certain that there will be a sneaky test case very soon, and if we as gamers do not push back hard, it'll very quickly become the norm.
@Boucho11 When I was a kid "Triple A" games were expected to be the gold standard of gaming. They had a momentum behind them. An anticipation. An excitement. People used to queue up at midnight for them.
"Triple A" nowadays is more often than not a byword for "expensive disappointment."
Looking back, the Xbox 360 was Microsoft's only real success. The rest of the time they were being handily beaten by Sony and Nintendo. Kind of reminds me of Sega with the post MegaDrive/Genesis years. They never recaptured the glory days either.
Here's the problem with the gaming subscription model: this is not how the vast number of people actually play games. Fortnite for example gets 221 million players per month despite being six years old. Minecraft gets 166 million despite being thirteen years old. GTA5 gets far less but still is at a healthy 100,000 ten years later.
Most people have their one or two games that they play on repeat year after year and are very happy with that. They do not want or need access to a thousand other games.
From Googie: Neither Cavill nor the show's creators have given a reason for his departure. However, in 2021, Cavill told the Philippine Star that he struggled to find a "balance between the showrunners' vision and my love for the books,"
This seems like a very clear reason for leaving to me. He thinks that the Witcher tv series has become bad fan fiction.
@Specky Because GTA is one of the last true AAA games. Other developers can TRY and copy this business model, but the hype for GTA6 is natural rather than artificially generated.
Honestly, the last time I saw this much hype for a product was probably the lead up to Avengers: Endgame. And that was 4 years ago.
Fallout has an ''open world''. Starfield has an ''open world''.
The difference is that Fallout is densely packed with things to discover, places to see, items to find, NPCs to talk to, treasure to steal, side-quests to start, minigames to play. An ''open world'' without the content is just a walking simulator. And I have been burned too many times to buy something that advertises itself as such on day 1.
I've never played a Halo game so I would definitely buy a collection.
Edit: if someone told me back when Halo 3 was fresh that this might be a thing I would have laughed. How far Halo and Xbox have fallen since then.
Proof that the cost of living crisis is not affecting everyone. Anyone who buys this sort of thing for 200 better not tell me that they are poor ever again.
I would rather we never ever get another Fallout if it is going to be another typical broken Bethesda game running on the same tired crappy old engine.
And just so we are clear here: the fact that Fallout 4 is ten years old is not an excuse for its severe levels of jank because so is GTA5 and that is still a technical marvel to this day which is made even more impressive by the fact that it is technically a PS3 game. Bethesda releases games that are born old.
@Nightcrawler71 ''The same bloke winning all the time'' describes the last twenty-five years of the sport. For something that likes to call itself ''the pinnacle of motor racing'' it really isn't.
@Czar_Khastik I still want to know what happened to Sora's mum in the first game. And his perfectly ordinary looking house was overlooking the island with Tidus and Wakka on it? And if he's not an orphan, why was he trying to sail away from Tidus Island? Isn't that kind of cruel on his mum?
It's a very strange story that makes little sense. Sorry all.
There are two types of people: people who died repeatedly to this boss and people who looked up how to defeat her from day 1 and actually managed it quite easily after setting up their whole character build around it. The power of the meta, folks.
@Darude84 Because the female chest is considered to be a secondary sexual characteristic whilst the male chest isn't. That is why it is considered to be sexual assault to touch a woman's chest but not to touch a man's chest. Don't shoot the messenger, I didn't design our society, i'm merely telling you how it is.
@KundaliniRising333 ''Rose-tinted glasses'' is the perfect review for Fallout 4 imo.
I have a funny feeling that all of the renewed interest in this game thanks to the series is going to be gone again in a few weeks. Bethesda games falter massively under any kind of objective analysis. That is why the best way to play these games isn't on PS4 or PS5... It's on PC with twenty mods enabled that iron out most of the problems.
Meh. Is there really any difference between using a guide and the game just completing the section for you? Either way you aren't accomplishing anything for yourself.
@Fyz306903 Deus Ex is a bit of a dead brand now. Not saying that it can't happen, but seven years is a long time. It would require outside momentum such as that of a popular Netflix series.
@DennisReynolds I get what you mean about the likes of the Hot Coffee controversy. But I think that sex scenes look ridiculous in video game form unless the graphics and tone are top notch. Watching two dead-eyed models make noises and bounce back and forth is cringe. I would much rather have the ''Roger Moore putting his tie on the door'' method any day because i'm not sitting there with my face in my hands.
@WolfyTn Your internet connection itself is not free this is true. But what is on the internet has been mostly free for the better part of two decades.
Youtube is a great example of this. Billions of hours of content to watch for absolutely nothing. But because they have the nerve to put two or three ads in each video suddenly people are absolutely outraged. Calling for the end of Google and their ''money-hungry'' practices. People today simply do not know just how privileged they are which is why when asked to pay a couple of quid extra they feel as if it is some major scandal.
@zhoont I understand where you are coming from. But at the same time, I am from the era where you paid for a cable connection and still had to sit through 15 minutes of ads per show. And there was no pausing live TV so you could just fast forward through them back then either.
I feel as if people today have had it good for so long with free internet and modestly priced streaming services that they've forgotten what the norm used to be. The fact that these services are having to turn back to ads proves just what a loss leader the current model is.
It's almost as if a focus on streaming and on quantity over quality is a bad thing. Whoever told these studios that streaming was the future based on the artificially inflated Covid numbers really messed up.
I think it says a lot that it took until the TV series for the words "Fallout 5" to start trending.
Fallout 76 may or may not be a good game, but there is no question that it seriously harmed the brand.
All together now: "It just works."
Btw, seems kinda weird removing the FF games when we've just had an article where Square were bragging about how FF16 managed to introduce a whole new audience to the franchise. This seems like the best time to have all of these games available.
@Ichiban Open world is fine IF you put in the work. Procedurally generated content sucks. It is the difference between something tight, focused and rewarding like Fallout 3, and something that is mile after mile of absolutely nothing like Starfield.
Part of the fun of Spider-Man was the feel of swinging from building to building. Black Panther has a real boring move-set for an open world game. Should have gone the Anthem route with Iron Man imo.
Fallout 5 will absolutely be on PlayStation. The Triple A exclusive is dead and buried. The most you'll see is early DLC or exclusive pre-order bonuses.
