@Icey664 Stellar Blade makes for an interesting discussion. Personally though, take away the controversy and there is nothing special or unique about it.
There are thousands of fascinating women and black people throughout history that games can be made about. The problem is how they go about it.
Battlefield 5's story for example required them to delete REAL men and their achievements in order to fit women into battles where they had no place in being. That is quite simply disgusting. You cannot be allowed to erase actual people from actual events particularly when they are still within living memory ffs. And when confronted on this, these companies double down instead of apologising, resorting to the tired old bigot card.
Just choose some real people with real achievements. It is not hard.
This is of course why Sony wants to jump onto the live service train. After all, which corporation wouldn't want their customers so devoted to their product that they would buy imaginary shoes?
There is just one, tinsy-winsy problem that they do not seem to realise. And they did not realise it with the COD clones back in the day either. And that is, why would anyone want to buy your game if an identical game already exists?
I will say, speaking for the town that I live in, it is actually getting harder and harder to buy physical even if you wanted to. The supermarkets no longer have gaming sections, the dedicated stores have all closed down, and there are surprisingly few second-hand stores about now too.
I do not think that physical games make money anymore. Those are just my anecdotal two cents.
In fairness, people like us on forums such as these represent a significantly small amount of the population. Any normie over the age of about thirty-five will naturally expect their $800 console to come with a disc drive.
@Jayslow Because - and this is key - it is the biggest failure of all time. ''The Greatest year in gaming since 2020 - which also contains the worst game ever made by the hand of man'' is a pretty big asterix next to your claim.
Oh, and I also forgot to mention, ''contains Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League'' in my earlier comment.
@Jayslow Any year that has Concord in it AKA one of the biggest failures since ET for the Atari cannot claim to be any kind of ''best year in gaming''.
I think there has never been a better time to buy a PS4. Cheap as chips, plays 90% of what is on PS5, and has several features that its younger brother does not.
@Moj500 As we seem to be trading free advice, may I suggest that you should stop throwing so much blind tribalistic love at a corporation that could not care less if you live or die.
@Moj500 Nintendo is king when it comes to gaming. Sony is the drunken prince that is capable of flurries of brilliance whilst stumbling over its own feet a lot.
Ive found over the years that the greatest review on Earth is a Let's Play. In half an hour I can tell who was lying and who was telling me the truth. Right now I'm withholding judgement.
@Bez87 Is this the game with about 30 fuseboxes that you have to interact with? Because if so, yeah, I cannot see this selling for any reason other than nostalgia. It has a very repetitive gameplay loop.
@Waitinonpsvr2 Not being affected by FOMO has saved me so much time and money in this hobby over the years. Triple A games being released broken is the majority outcome at this point. It amazes me how many people still buy day 1 and then break out the surprised Pikachu face when it does not work properly.
I honestly forgot that PlayStation Stars was even a thing. My evidence is purely anecdotal, but I find it hard to believe that this service is popular. I simply do not know anyone irl who uses it.
15 nearly identical games for anything more than a tenner isn't worth it imo. Especially as, i'm assuming anyway, any hardcore Tetris fan probably already owns a Nintendo.
As far as I am concerned, Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Everyone else is just a pretender to the crown.
I'm sure a lot of people are going to take issue with me for saying that and fine. I'm not here to try and convince you. But I hated the ending and I refuse to buy the next game if Peter is some nobody side character whilst someone else gets all the glory.
We are in a second video game crash and I will die on this hill. Never before have so many developers had so many lay offs at the same time. Add in spiralling costs and big budget failures and the evidence is everywhere.
@tameshiyaku I'm fairly certain that Sony can only revoke your licence if you are connected to the Internet. There is no online check that deactivates it.
@Jacko11 And these are some bloody old games too. I find it hard to believe that most people who were likely to play Kingdom Hearts or Red Dead haven't already played them.
@themightyant It is 75% likely at this point that GTA6 Online will be a subscription service with F2P monetisation. They'll only need a couple of whales to make back the cost of the few people that leave.
@get2sammyb It is easy to forget sometimes that this is a PS3 game. Fot all of its creakiness today it is incredible just how well it has held up over the years. There really are only a few games that hold up to this game's scope.
I am very interested to see where NPC chatbots and fully integrated VR could take this series as Rockstar absolutely are the chaps to do it.
Bingo. The most passionate defenders of games that have aged like milk are people who played them when they were younger. The nights were long, the summers warm, and their favourite game with their favourite mates was on their monitor. Everything looks better through that lens (which is why Remasters aren't a bad thing if done correctly).
A review for a product from someone fresh rather than someone who has played it forever is always likely to be more objective.
@Haruki_NLI Yep. If you somehow sold a single screw for a million dollars then it would be the best selling accessory in dollar sales on the market. This is a textbook example as to how you can twist stats to say literally anything that you want them to (not implying any intentional malice btw).
@colonelkilgore Haven't been too many of those recently though have there? One of the biggest complaints of the PS5 is that its quality first party games can fill a shoebox.
@RobN Arguably Youtube and Twitch have already replaced sites like these. Don't get me wrong - I love sites like these. Like you, I am a veteran magazine reader and this is the closest to the experience that you are getting. But some of those video creators have millions of subs with hundreds of thousands of views per day. I would be surprised (pleasantly so) if this site gets that many hits.
We'll see. Tax write off still seems to me like the most profitable way to salvage this situation - unless they can't of course.
I have my doubts that f2p will save this game anyway. It was such a complete rejection across the board that I cannot see the game building up anything more than a small cult following long term.
Im sorry but this took too damn long. How long have people been complaining about the user experience of this console now? Hopefully the PS6 has this at launch.
After playing all six digital versions of these games here is my quick review: play them in reverse order.
1-3 are laughably basic with barebones mechanics, random battles every five steps and just plain uninteresting stories about gathering crystals. I can only imagine how bad the originals were. But 4-6 are definitely starting to get there, with 6 in particular being a gem.
The conspiracy theory is that they deliberately ran the company into the ground so that they could buy it for pennies on the dollar. A very plausible, if dangerous, scenario imo.
The writing in this game is God awful. By making ''freedom'' essentially a computer virus, this immediately changes the discussion from ''these machines are alive!'' to ''these machines are defective.''
And the problem is, as much as the writers are trying to very obviously draw comparisons with the Civil Rights movement, the fact of the matter is that comparing an appliance built to serve with human beings whose only crime was to have the wrong skin colour is misguided at best and offensive at worst. This is not the same scenario.
The problem with all of these PC releases of PlayStation games is that there is a good chance that you already own both a PC and a PS4/PS5. Is there any legit reason to buy it again besides some slightly improved graphics?
