Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

Martijn87

I think you should ignore the majority of people on forums and social media. They always scream the opposite and feed of negativity. This has been going on for generations.

In the past it looked all better, but that's mainly because games got announced years before release. People complained and this is the result, Sony announces close to release these days. Maybe they could release a short compilation trailer with all the first party games coming, it only needs to be a couple of seconds of footage then for each game.

Re: Dragon Quest 3's HD-2D Remake Re-Emerges for PS5

Martijn87

@Haruki_NLI yes and no really. There is a bigger user base on PS4 so it will sell alot. However, If they want to sell the new PS5 titles they need to drop support of older consoles so gamers have no other choice then to buy the newer consoles. That way the other PS5 games will also sell more copies.

Re: Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures Developing 'Open World Action-Adventure' Game

Martijn87

@Frmknst I think in the past it was more balanced. You knew certain genre games were longer. Rpg's, adventure games, and GTA took you longer to complete. but even with those games it never felled dragged out, just for the sake of being long (off course there might have been some).

Like the example you gave of the last of us 2. The first one is one my favorite games. The pacing of the story was great, it stayed impactful. I remember everything what happened in that game by the end and gave satisfying feeling by finishing it and left you wanting more. With part 2 is was happy to finish it. The story dragged on and on and by the end I forget half if what happened in the middle. It's still a amazing game, but way to long for it's own good. I hope part 3 will be paced like 1.

Re: Rockstar Co-Founder Dan Houser's Absurd Ventures Developing 'Open World Action-Adventure' Game

Martijn87

A new IP is always welcome. Hope they share a first look soon. I do have to say that I would like more shorter lineair experiences with a great story. Almost everything is open world these days, and they are usually to long for their own good.

It's the reason why the uncharted series were so good. They were long enough, packed a good story that didn't drag on, and has great gameplay. Would seem to me that it will also be cheaper to make with the high budgets the games have these days.

Re: A Lot of PS4 Owners Have Yet to Upgrade to PS5

Martijn87

Maybe they shouldn't had released miles morales, sackboy, horizon forbidden west, god of war Ragnarok, kena on the PS4. I understand why they did, but it made the PS5 irrelevant from the start, they should have sticked with what they said about believing in generations. It would made the PS5 the console you wanted en needed, instead of the console: but we can also play this game on PS4, so I wait for a price cut console.

It's a normal thing to happen after each generation ends that the new games are only released on the newer console. The graphical differences weren't that different enough yet for buyers to want that next console instead of the one they owned, especially if the same game gets released on both. It really made the PS5 less a must have in the first years.

Re: Sony Increasingly Focused on PS5 Playtime Alongside Hardware Sales

Martijn87

The pandemic was the worst thing that could have happened for gaming (and the world off course). I know Sony, Nintendo and Xbox had benefits because of it but look at the situation we are in now. They peaked way to hard in a short time.

A lot of people that wouldn't normally buy a game console bought one just to have something to do. Especially Switch and PS4 sold incredibly well back then because they were the most easily available.

I know all the companies will count those sales during that time but a lot of those users might not be users anymore.

Re: Reaction: Why You Shouldn't Worry Too Much About PS5's Year-on-Year Decline

Martijn87

Everything is mostly negative online these days. These days you are daily bombarded with bad negative news, and even with good news they will find a way to bring it in a negative way. Those so called YouTube game specialists are the worse, the bring everything to get the clicks in. I try to avoid it but must admit I fall victim to it sometimes and get thrown in the bad vibes.

Let's see what the new strategy will bring for the future. If Nintendo releases a console that matches the graphical power of PS4 pro or PS5, they will really need to bring it all and hopefully this will bring Sony back to the old days with smaller more experimental games.

Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5

Martijn87

@Flaming_Kaiser I completely agree. FF7 is my favorite game and one I hold closest to my heart. It is also the game that got me on playstation. All they needed to do was update the graphics, create new FMV's, they might have even keep the turn based style. The budget would be normal, it would be one game, and the profits would be incredible. And fans won't have to wait for years.

I appreciate what they did and rebuild the world from the ground up. I mean it is amazing to see the world in remake and rebirth. But with three 70+ hour games looking like this and development time if years, they are looking at a billion dollar budget, if not more. They can never make that back, no matter on how many platforms it will be released on. XIII and XV destroyed the name of the franchise as a must have rpg. And they completely destroyed the hype of their holy grail project ,FF vii remake, with the trilogy formula.

Re: Sony: The Future Is Incredibly Bright for PlayStation

Martijn87

@MrGawain yeah I agree. Playstation was always the middle ground and that's why it was so successful. Them mentioning the successor and the end of life of the PS5 was the most stupid thing they did. It even made me panic and raising a few eyebrows. It will be probably that it will still be 4-5 years before the PS6 sees the light of day, but those remarks made it seem they are pulling a Wii U thing by releasing a new console after a couple of years. Nobody will spend 500 easily after that, they should have done some damage control after that.

Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5

Martijn87

FFVII was the big one. It is also the biggest game that boosted the Playstation beyond believe. The remake was always the holy grale for them. They screwed that up by making it a trilogy and changing the story of that game. The budgets of the remake are ridiculous high and they will never make that back.

Don't get me wrong, I loved both remake and rebirth and consider them to be the best in recent years. But they could have easily made it in one game, two at the max if they sticker to the original story and content. 70% procent of both is extra content. Fans wanted a one on one remake, alot backed out because of the first one.

Re: Sony: The Future Is Incredibly Bright for PlayStation

Martijn87

I used to be optimistic, but it seems like empty promises lately. They've been saying this for years now, and yet they don't show it. I never thought I would say this again but Nintendo is killing it. They generated an incredible amount of hype by just announcing they will share news about a successor this year, while every bit of news about playstation is basically meh or bad.

Go back to your roots and look at what made the PSone and PS2 great.

Re: Square Enix to 'Aggressively' Pursue Multiplatform Strategy from Now On

Martijn87

@UltimateOtaku91 thank you, finally someone who mentions that. Everyone only see FF XVI and FF7 remake, both wich Sony also funded. There are a lot of other titles that didn't see the light on a Playstation console.

I feel Square -enix will never be happy though. Like others have said if a games goes multiplatform they will most likely want to see double or triple sales from that title. I would like to see that square goes back to also make smaller games like the bouncer or ehrgeiz.

Re: Square Enix to 'Aggressively' Pursue Multiplatform Strategy from Now On

Martijn87

Final Fantasy vii remake will most likely remain locked on Playstation but will also release on PC. Those deals will remain in place. What will be interesting is the rumoured remake of IX.

They always should have released a PC version at the same time. I can see why they want to target switch 2 although it remains to see how powerful that console will be.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Ending?

Martijn87

I feel it's a ending that you can only understand if you played the original and know what's comes next for Cloud and the state he's in. All the events do match up with the original though.

I do think it's a shame they treated the death of Aerith this way. It would have made more impact if they showed it completely and started the weird timeline montages after that moment. I understand that they wanted to show the mental state of Cloud during it but it took away the impact the original had.

I'm looking forward what the last game will be and how it all comes together.

Re: Rumour: Next Tomb Raider Said to Be Open World, Set in India

Martijn87

They should have chosen a different location to be honest. Maybe something in south America. Uncharted lost legacy also has India as a location and Chloe is basically a sassy Lara. It might be compared a lot to it.

Looking forward to it though, it will be interesting to see how they move the franchise forward.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sales Remain Muted in the USA, Compared to Past Games

Martijn87

Slow news day it seems. Let's hate ff7 again. We know it now, Pushsquare hates square-enix and ff7 and loves everything that's from Atlus.

How many times are we going to read about this, about some YouTube/Twitter Analyst that want some extra cheap clicks. The game sold great for the time and it will sell more in the future. Nothing indicates this game is a failure, the only ones claiming are social media screamers. To bad Pushsquare is doing the same.

Comparing it to remake also doesn't make sense. The PS4 was at it end with alot of consoles sold. PS5 is halfway. It will be the same if Nintendo releases a new Mario on the next console and everyone will be saying it's a failure because it didn't sell as much as the previous in switch.
