I consider the PS3 retro when compared to the PS5 because of age and features. While not as old as PS2 and PS1 the PS3's features, tech, and graphics are different enough than the current gen to be retro to me.
Oscar worthy. My eyes widened for a moment when I thought the guy may have a boxed all black PS5 slim. This video has an E3 video feel for a game reveal, and would be a fun way to see a slim PS5 revealed.
I want to be dazzled with brilliance and not baffled with bull.... A PS5 not ugly slim to replace the big ugly original PS5. Also all black out of the box and with a web browser like the PS4 and Xbox X have. That would be brilliance.
I almost purchased an Xbox X while out shopping yesterday, the store also had a PS5, but there is just no way. Maybe if it had an ugly + no browser 50% off markdown I would have taken it home.
Games info: Mafia 4, GTA 6, and at least 2 new Sony exclusives to be excited about.
All of the games on this list that I played I enjoyed except two. Journey bored me and I never finished it and Skyrim which I did enjoy when I played the PS4 version. I so wish Fallout 3 and New Vegas would have received PS4 versions like with Skyrim.
My list of 50 would have dropped some and added: The Saboteur Saints Row 2 Borderlands 2 Far Cry 4 Resident Evil Revelations 2 including its Raid Mode Resident Evil 5 Mafia 2
In retrospect the PS3 cost more at launch than the 360 did, but had more features. Adding an HD player, wifi dongle, rechargeable batteries and charger could boost the 360 price higher than the $600 priced PS3 that came with a Blue Ray player, hdmi, built in wifi, USB rechargeable controller, web browser, and PS1 and PS2 disc compatibility. The $300 120 GB Slim model released September 2009 helped to reduce the 360's sales lead with, from one chart, has the PS3 outselling the 360 in 2009-11. Unfortunately the cell processor and divided ram were still problems and some games were thus still better performers on the 360.
Thanks for the weapons guide. I like how some weapons can be found. Ammo and merchant info I will learn my first play. Are there snakes in some loot boxes like the original? I do dislike the loot containers marked.
I'm not a genius so I know I will need help with a puzzle or three and use this guide for solutions.
Ashley? She looks 30 but squeaks like a 12 year old. Capcon needs to patch in a squeak slider for those that want much less squeak.
I am all in for improved AI in games. Improved npc speaking content would be nice. So too less repeating of the same lines over and over. However I don't believe a computer program is needed for that, but if it helps then what can I say. I mean I use and depend on spell check like I have always had it, but I haven't.
Definitely has potential, but the world looked empty with roads and streets nearly void of traffic, and streets with nearly no people.
While watching the trailers I wished it would be GTA 6 trailers. However some of Sims features put in GTA 6 could be interesting. Stuff like improved interactions with npc's, friendships, dating, and romance.
The voice-over is entertainingly silly. For the first 20 seconds I thought I was in my GTAO apartment watching TV. Since it's a Plus game I'll probably give it at least an hour or two some day.
Screen reader in the web browser? Did PS5 get access to a web browser like the PS3 & 4 does? That is one click on a browser icon to open. Probably not, and probably never like themes, folders, and a ui like the PS4 has.
Definitely going to play this tomorrow. I'm interested to try the controls and how it looks and performs on my PRO.
@RenanKJ, the original RE4 had weak weapons in the beginning. The 9mm pistol is near useless the entire game. Better weapons with more damage become available as the game progresses. Zombies eating like candy 9mm head shots is silly.
@BAMmozzy, yes game pass is a rental service, but what if it becomes MS's only service. That is if you want to play game "X", game pass is the your only option. It will not be available on Playstation. No digital or disc purchase. Stream it or download to a pc or MS game box for the premium performance and MS promises games will only be added and not removed.
Yes play on any devise other than Playstation but you need a game pass subscription. With what new games cost a raise in game pass price will still be a good subscription. Maybe with tiers so those that want the new good AAA on release will need to purchase a Premium Tier for maybe $30 or more per month, to start.
Low end and indies is one thing, buying publishers that output AAA titles is another. MS can do what they want with their purchases, or at least attempt to. That includes putting their games only on game pass and charging as much as they can. Losing something like Goat Sim is not like losing Fallout, ES, GTA, Red Dead, and other AAA games. The big titles gamers get hyped about, talk about, and many call off sick to play day of release.
I believe MS has a long term plan and that is game pass in every home, probably add movies and other stuff. All available ONLY if you got game pass. Just my take.
@BAMozzy, you have some good points in your take. Now tell us all really why MS would spend 69 billion to purchase a publisher.
My take is MS will continue to purchase more and more. Take-2 is probably their next big dream purchase. The reason? Maybe to put all their games on game pass only with no selling of download or physical copies and then raise the price of game pass? You want to play Gta, Fallout, COD, Red Dead 3, Borderlands, Bioshock 4, and more? No problemo, just sign up for a game pass subscription.
What a nice feeling I get turning on my PS3 after about 6 months or longer of absence. Something magical about seeing the old familiar dynamic fish tank and ui again.
My recent PS3 plays, this year, were Rage and The Saboteur. Next up may be Far Cry Classic.
And then at one table sits a man that says, "I'm hungry, got any biscuits"?
I would prefer an old fashion Diner. One slotted between my Laundromat and my Gas Station businesses. Next year I add a motel and then a roadhouse bar.
All I know is that from the screen shots and trailers I am not inspired much to purchase and play this game. When it's a Plus game I'll stream and demo it.
I recently streamed SR2. Still fun like it was in 2008.
One of the reasons I like physical is the option to play unpatched. Especially if purchase is long after release where digital copies are patched whether I want it or not. Sometime it is content/ larger files not wanted, nerfs not wanted, glitches still wanted, and the rare performance downdate.
The PS3 would message that a patch is available which could be declined, end of story if disc left in. With my PS4 nomatter how often I decline it wants to auto add an update. Not even the option to install after downloading an unwanted update/downdate. No settings eliminate that. Thankfully firmware updates only install when I give permission.
GTA 5 on PS3, disc, is interesting in that all updates are in a seperate file and download individually in chronological order. Nice if in offline play if I want to play before something changed in the next patch. Overall that seperate file along with games having seperate dlc content files on the PS3 is nice. Nice that game data from a disc can be deleted and then installed again without the need to download dlc again.
My eyes have some problems with color, but it looks like you found a train to match your shoes. The bag too. Nice reference to the Beatles. Interesting read and photos.
Don't stop here, do a monthly series. Each Magical Video Game Tour could be named after the city or country. Would love to see Frankfurt/Berlin, Paris/Lyon, Madrid, Timbuktu, Jakarta, and others.
@sjbsixpack, yes you may ask what I use a console web browser for.
My other posts I made here was using my tablet, this post I am using my PS4 while sitting all comfy on my sofa, controller resting on my lap, no touch the screen to type, and viewed on a large screen looking straight instead of down at a small 10" tablet screen or even smaller phone screen.
I exited a game I was playing to take a break to view a sports site, a news site , to check this site, and to look up something about the game I was playing. I am able to screen shot the info I find about the game or bookmark the article if I desire to.
Then there are times when I want to google and or wikipedia something. Wikipedia works great while other sites are a mixed bag of performance. However I always find enough good sites for what I am searching.
Also the browser version of youtube, only 720p, is available as an alternative to the app.
Yes, of course, other devices have better browsers, the Xbox browser maybe better. For me the PS4 having a browser is about ease of use and convenience for basic but often used browser uses like visiting this game site. Convenience of not needing to use another device, but to just switch from a game to the web.
I hope that answers why someone may be using a funky doodle ,wtf, omg, are you joking, console web browser.
So 88% of Playstion players surveyed claim one or more games was the reason they chose the console they purchased. 73% of that 88% claim COD was that game. However 69% claim exclusives and 45% claim GTA 5. Is this some kind of new math or what?😵💫
@sjbsixpack, console looks over quality of games? Multiplatform games have dominated my PS3 and PS4 game play. Sony has an excellent exclusives library, but for me I will take the muliplats over over almost all the exclusives from Sony or Xbox to-date.
So with an Xbox I would still be able to play the multiplats that are 95% of my play time. All on a plain black rectangle and featuring a web browser. I only wish to have with a PS5 what I have now with my 2 PS4's along with the upgrade in hardware the 5 has.
@KaijuKaiser, 1080p tv's have not been abandoned from store sales for years. In my part of the USA there were some about 4 months ago when I was browsing to buy a new TV. With only a last gen Pro I decided to stay with my old 1080p tv until I upgraded.
New model PS5? Please ship all black, smaller, and, rectangular in shape, I might buy one then.
Porn left a big footprint when it was a pile of magazines, vcr tapes, and then discs. High definition streaming and downloads has to be a smaller footprint. However gone is the privacy of store purchases 100 miles away and with cash👹
Physical gaming on consoles had privacy until the PS3/360 gen except for the small fraction that played a game featuring online play. Now, disc or digital, all is known as soon as we sign in to visit the store or enable the internet for all the patches now needed.
I can live with some lost privacy, but I still like physical for playing unpatched versions, offline play, and replays where I can load large files from a disc instead of download. Also game rentals and used purchases. Then there is the feeling of ownership that only playing a physical copy can provide. Like playing a 20 year old PS2 game on a DVD in my PS2, no internet, licenses, or PSN account needed.
I have not experienced this problem but a couple of months ago I twice received a message something about game play would soon end because of lack of authorization. My play was not interrupted. I think it may have been Vice City that I had downloaded from Plus Extra.
I have had a problem of lost game saves with streamed games. Last week I lost all saves of 6 of 8 streamed games. No I had not made cloud backups, I do now. One game, Rage, is totally wack as I can not even save any game play to make a backup of.
Last week Sony "support" told me a fix is a high priority, but after a week I still can not save Rage. The other 5 games I lost saves I restarted, was able to save, and was able to do a backup. I switched to my PS3 and disc copy to replay Rage.
Lessen the rain effects and provide plenty of shotgun ammo so I can ditch the weak handgun. I find Ashley's squeaky voice annoying on this older looking Ashley. It's on my to play list this year.
Last summer I did a replay of this Mafia remake, disc, and Mafia 2 streamed. If you like one you will probably like the other or vice versa. Both are similar in structure, however for me Mafia 2 has the better cars, better customization, and better garages.
7 is a fair score for this remake although I love it and give an 8. Also it was only $40 new. My big complaint is no dlc like Joe's for Mafia 2. A dlc about Sam, and or, Paulie would have been nice.
Overall Mafia was fun to play and replay. Performance on my PRO is good frame rates with good 1080p graphics. Interiors like in Mafia 2 are done very well.
It would be interesting to see some movie reviews by these two. Movies like "Shaun of The Dead". Nice to see old school passion.
My only issue with the combat is how much I enjoy one slash dismemberment and decapitation. That is a powerfull juice when I play. Dying Light 1 with a powerfull machete where good timing allows satisfying one slash decapitations
of screaming zombies running at me. Multiple slashes to decapitate will not be as satisfying.
Overall this month may be one of the best. The Mafia remake I think is an excellent example of a story driven open world game. Two of the other three interest me to give a try. OOW I'll pass on, but it's a game that probably has many that will be downloading it as soon as possible.
I have mixed feelings. On one hand after playing the 2 and 3 remakes I have high desire for this 4 remake. On the other hand I may have played the original on PS2 too much with many replays and that this remake could feel too familiar. With much less replays the 2 and 3 remakes were fresh to play, also the jump was huge between PS1and PS4 Pro.
The 90's. Xmas 93 SNES bundled with Mario Allstars, played all night and got sore hands. Beavis and Butthead, Nirvana, camcorders at family gatherings, and the Indians, for real, were in the World Series twice.
@EVIL-C, one day there was a meeting where the design of the PS5 was decided. What were the designs that lost? I have no desire for the current PS5. A slim maybe, but when and how available would one be.
I would not call my PS3 Slim pretty or ugly. It sits beside my PRO, both are matte black, stable horizontal, and both are unnoticed.
A PS5 Pro? I know my PS4 Pro was worth the price, $400 Xmas 2017. I got a needed new DS4, 1TB of needed hdd space, and a game, CD WW2. Also 1080p gallery capture, improved game performance, and allowed my other PS4 to be a backup. Then along came the performance mode option with noticeable improved frame rates with 1080p output to my 1080p screen.
Since I have yet to upgrade to current gen my PS5 desire is for a slim model with 2TB ssd, and a web browser. Also for games to be well optimized for the current gen and 60fps.
A PS5 Pro? Maybe not needed this gen, but a slim most definitely is needed.
Saboteur replay on PS3. An old favorite that I replay about every 2 years and, thankfully, is just like I remember it. That is open world but simple without huge skill trees and inventories to manage. Also the text and subtitles are easy to read and not tiny. I do wish I could custom map the control layout.
I may also try a new Plus game like the recently added Just Cause 4.
@Gremio108, game about a bloke who's lost his pen? Finally a game based on the KITH classic "My Pen" sketch with Bruce McCulloch as the character that's lost his pen. Definitely my 2nd ever pre-order.
I love and have hundreds of hours of playing Fallout 3,4, and NV. After some play of 76 via Plus my take is 76 would be better if it would be single player with online play with up to 3 drop ins like Borderlands, Dead Island or with improved play with followers. Also with a world full of interesting npc's.
I am still getting by with my not huge, not ugly, and has a web browser PS4 Pro. Upgrading to a PS5 in 2023 I would like to do, buuut. What would excite me for 2023 is a PS5 slim with a web browser and bundled with GTA, freaking, Six.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Shooter Crime Boss: Rockay City Opens to a 55 Metacritic Rating
If the 4 player co op is optional like some games where the entire game is playable solo then I have some interest. If not then I'll pass.
When revealed I was hoping Rockay City would be good, even a surprise 2023 hit, and a bridge till GTA 6 releases.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for February 2023?
I give two thumbs up for this month👍👍.
Re: Mini Review: World War Z: Aftermath (PS5) - Performance Issues Can't Stop XL Zombie Fun
@jgrangervikings1, Interesting, but now I desire a bowl of French Vanilla with syrup, a cherry, and crushed nuts. All I have are 2 jars of nuts 😫.
Re: Dead Island 2's FLESH System Allows for Procedurally Generated Mayhem
It would be interesting to see some movie reviews by these two. Movies like "Shaun of The Dead". Nice to see old school passion.
My only issue with the combat is how much I enjoy one slash dismemberment and decapitation. That is a powerfull juice when I play. Dying Light 1 with a powerfull machete where good timing allows satisfying one slash decapitations
of screaming zombies running at me. Multiple slashes to decapitate will not be as satisfying.
Re: PS Plus Essential PS5, PS4 Games for February 2023 Announced
Overall this month may be one of the best. The Mafia remake I think is an excellent example of a story driven open world game. Two of the other three interest me to give a try. OOW I'll pass on, but it's a game that probably has many that will be downloading it as soon as possible.
Re: Dying Light Series Ships 30 Million, Dying Light 2 Support Detailed on First Anniversary
Thank you Techland for all the crazy zombie killing fun I have had with multiple replays of DL1 and all the dlc.
DL2 is on my play after I upgrade to current gen list. I want it 60 fps.
Re: Resident Evil 4 Fronts Game Informer Issue, New Gameplay Revealed
I have mixed feelings. On one hand after playing the 2 and 3 remakes I have high desire for this 4 remake. On the other hand I may have played the original on PS2 too much with many replays and that this remake could feel too familiar. With much less replays the 2 and 3 remakes were fresh to play, also the jump was huge between PS1and PS4 Pro.
Re: Life Is Strange Dev Will Take You on a Trip to the 90s in New Game
The 90's. Xmas 93 SNES bundled with Mario Allstars, played all night and got sore hands. Beavis and Butthead, Nirvana, camcorders at family gatherings, and the Indians, for real, were in the World Series twice.
Re: Sony Could Skip PS5 Pro for PS6, Says Social Media Scuttlebutt
@EVIL-C, one day there was a meeting where the design of the PS5 was decided. What were the designs that lost? I have no desire for the current PS5. A slim maybe, but when and how available would one be.
I would not call my PS3 Slim pretty or ugly. It sits beside my PRO, both are matte black, stable horizontal, and both are unnoticed.
Re: Sony Could Skip PS5 Pro for PS6, Says Social Media Scuttlebutt
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 460
Re: 15 PS5, PS4 Predictions for 2023
@Gremio108, game about a bloke who's lost his pen? Finally a game based on the KITH classic "My Pen" sketch with Bruce McCulloch as the character that's lost his pen. Definitely my 2nd ever pre-order.
Re: Fallout 76 - A Shockingly Bad Attempt at Multiplayer Survival
I love and have hundreds of hours of playing Fallout 3,4, and NV. After some play of 76 via Plus my take is 76 would be better if it would be single player with online play with up to 3 drop ins like Borderlands, Dead Island or with improved play with followers. Also with a world full of interesting npc's.
Re: Opinion: Why 2023 Will Be PS5's Biggest and Best Year Yet
I am still getting by with my not huge, not ugly, and has a web browser PS4 Pro. Upgrading to a PS5 in 2023 I would like to do, buuut.
What would excite me for 2023 is a PS5 slim with a web browser
and bundled with GTA, freaking, Six.
