I just purchased my second year of Plus Premium for PS4. For me the first year was a great value as I only purchased one game and that was used and yet to be played. The second year looks promising if some good games are added and games I want to play are not removed.
A 3rd year and beyond will be decided by price and the game catalogue. By then it could be like Netfilx which I dropped because the price went up and the value went down as the stuff I wanted to watch became less and less.
I only started Plus in 2016 to play GTA online on my PS4 and that was only because of new content and updates not releasing to the PS3. The "free" games I looked forward to receiving turned into about 2 or 3 per year I actually played. Cloud saves were not needed as I used a usb drive on both PS3 and PS4.
This games has looked like a game I would probably only play about an hour or to two even if free. What happens is my mind will wander to thoughts of favorite games I could instead be replaying. I then do play another game and seldomly return. Right now it's a solid maybe I'll ever download it.
This has me wondering about GTA4. That game needs a huge improvement in graphics and frame rates. Sharp clear and no blur filter at 60fps is a start. However overall 4 needs a remaster as the least. Just an upscaled graphics will not fix the ugly trees, ugly weather effects, or fix how vehicles slide like on ice and how Niko ambulates like a clown.
Limited use one trick pony niche product. It will be interesting to see sales numbers and the reports from those that purchased one.
For me I have no use for this product. Maybe sitting on my porch or in bed, but in those locations I use my 10" tablet and web surf, watch youtube or an app like Netflix and take a break from playing video games. I can see a use in households with multiple people and only one tv or for those that would like patio, porch, or bed use.
I attempted a replay on my PS3 about 3 years ago but lost interest after about an hour or so because of the graphics. Even a non remastered upgrade in graphics and smooth 30fps has me considering purchasing this new version of RDR after a price drop.
The big deal here will be for the experience first time players will have. $50 for the game and Nightmare dlc for them will be good value. For me I purchased RDR when released in 2010 and can not loose the idea that I should be able to put my PS3 disc into my PS4 and download this port, same with my Nightmare disc. Or for $10 each to download.
Maybe, just maybe these new guys will replace the no fun guys. To be serious, some new blood with new ideas may help GTA6 be the game we all hope for and can barely wait for.
I am cautiously optimistic about GTA6. After all the years since 5 was in development and changes in staff will GTA still be GTA. There is certainly enough current politics and culture to parody, but will R☆ do it? Will it be Teen rated? Will it need played on a PS5 PRO or PS6 to have good frame rates. Will there be a toggle option to sprint so X can just be tapped once to run instead of holding X pressed to run?
From the trailer it looks to have some upgrading/upscaling with probably better frame rates on the PRO. Something like Far Cry 3 is on my PRO. Will wait for a price drop and post release reviews.
The 'also available on' left out Xbov One and Xbox X & S through bc.
Experience 'severe abdominal wounds'?? Would that be fun? The device covers more than the abdomen. Can it do massive chest wound from a sniper or zombie chewing on a shoulder simulation?
@WallyWest Sony may not have enough money to purchase Take-2 and or Ubisoft, but apparently MS does. What is next for MS? Where is the next destination of their caravan of Brinks trucks?
Phil Spencer says more games on more systems and to more people. That is as long as you're not on a Sony console. I can see more MS attempted purchases and the price of game pass going up as those many places to play mandate a game pass subscription.
Sony can counter with their exclusives that are as good or better than games lost from MS purchases, or as what I would love to see happen. Sony purchases Ubisoft and Take-2 and thumb their noses at MS. Then Jimbo announces that games that will still be on Xbox will be a game by game decision, but that RDR3 and GTA6 are Definitely not coming to Xbox.😛😛😛😛.
What do those 2 releases in 2024 say about when GTA 6 will be released? I doubt R☆ would release 6 anytime near another of their releases. So is 2025 then the earliest for 6?
Both RDR1 and GTA4 would be welcomed in an updated version. By 2024 those games will be 14 and 16 year old respectively. A whole generation of younger players have never played them on a Sony console, and no generation have played good updated versions of those games on a Sony console.
Alan Wake makes it a good month for me. When I only had the basic Plus AW would have been a very good month. I too almost purchased it in a recent sale but declined as I had a hunch it would soon be added to Extra. Coming to Essential is even better.
For me physical over digital is about game size and playing the original release. Smaller sizes up to about 20GB are ok digital, where AAA titles from 50GB to over 100GB I want the full game on a disk.
Playing original releases offer play before patches that can change stuff like glitches, exploits, nerfing weapons, and funny bugs. Some of those changes come with day one patches, other changes come later after discovered in game play.
Overall I can not go against a game company from attempting to maximize profits by selling digital only. The only big issues I have are games that require online connection and PSN connection to play games I loaded onto my hard drive, and games on a disk that are just a key to download a huge game file.
The difference in carbon footprint sizes between physical and digital I don't know. I do know that the used game market has already diminished from the gamers that at their preference have gone digital.
Sony $pent a fortune? Hey Sony next time give me a call. I'll take half of what you paid for any of these to play and look thrilled out of their mind. Also like these gals and guys no one will recognize me as I play like I'm having the time of my life.
I'm serious, I need the $$$$.
Sony does need to consider the future. Probably more so to keep the current subscribers than adding new subscribers. That will be done by games added. The option of downloading pre PS4 games, allowing screen shots/video capture of games streamed, and a longer pause while streaming before being kicked would all be welcomed upgrades.
I was going to add another year to Premium this past sale but declined. I will wait and see.
After such a long wait for a new GTA game I am hoping for a reveal of Six like Fallout 4 was revealed. That is revealed along with a definite release date in 5 months. No tiny short teaser followed by a year or year+ of hype and more waiting along with speculations of delays. Better yet just reveal and release two weeks later.
A full length single player story is absolutely important to have. Also important is having tap and hold and tap to toggle running options on release and not 9 years after release.
Whatever interest I had died with the camera position used. With a 3rd person camera like Mafia and GTA games I would be all hyped for more info on this game.
It would be nice to have the option to have more than one Nicolas Cage to play. Honeymoon in Vegas Elvis Cage and Raising Arizona Cage are two that could be fun.
The leveling of numbers of subscribers is one thing, maintaining that number is another thing.
Improvements and good new games added to Plus Extra and Premium may not get higher subscriber numbers, but will probably be needed to maintain the current number.
For me the upgrade, last summer, to Premium has worked well as my plan was to hold off new game purchases for at least a year that has now turned into maybe another year. The reasons are; wait to play new games after I upgrade from my PRO, and that new games being released of interest are at a trickle pace. So while I wait for a slim PS5 or go XBOX and new games prices to drop I'll do just fine with my PRO with games I have and what Extra and Premium have.
With the current discount I will have another year of Premium starting this October based on the assumption that some "good" games will be added to games I have yet to play and that not too many I want to play are removed. After that year it may become endless scholling and finding little of interest and thus getting dumped. Then too if I slide over to XBOX that will end any interest in Plus.
Not much of a trailer. The title "Mercenaries" does bring to mind the fun I had playing Mercenaries 2.
Hopefully the running fix also includes a toggle option. So will it take another 10 years to fix the cover action and maybe even add the ability to crouch?
Bioshock remaster PS4, Plus download. My first replay since 2009 and feels all new. Smooth 60 fps on my PRO and looks great at only 1080p.
I picked "easy" after having a recent replay of Bioshock 2. That is because "easy" in Bioshock 2 felt like the hard setting on some games I have played that makes enemies be bullet sponges and their attacks do more damage. However "easy" in Bioshock does play easy.
I am enjoying playing those two old Bioshock games. It's all fun with a nonsensical story with creepy little sisters, and silly enemies to battle. Then there is the the welcomed simplicity of design and play. I recommend both Bioshock and Bioshock 2.
I will definitely see if I find this content fun. However it is still the same map. A map I love, but a map that is all too familiar as I have played 5 since the week of release Sept. 2013.
The taxi business in online is wack, does anyone play that for longer than 2 or 3 customers. My taxi career ended when I entered a cab at the cab lot and my fair to pick up was at the observatory. I found taxi driver fun in single player GTA games and with the benefits of helping to learn new maps and adding cash to my empty pockets.
The running upgrade/fix is most welcomed. However a toggle to run option is what I most want. Hopefully that option is included with the press to run feature.
I just watched the short reveal video and a vision passed through my mind. It was Slim Pickens on horseback riding on stage past Jim Ryan and saying "what in the wide wide world of sports is a going on here"? My next thought was, is this an Onion News sketch?
Some questions: does it play everything like apps, the gallery, and web if the PS5 had a web browser?
Is there a stand for it along with being able to use a regular controller so It can be played non hand-held? Why not compatible with PS4? How is this better than using a 10 inch android tablet with a DualSense to play a PS5?
For me the disappoint is that this was revealed and not a slim PS5 model. For those that wanted a hand-held they too are disappointed as this is not what they wanted.
I have no use for this and I question how large of a market is there for it? Why would one play on a tiny screen at home? Then there is the common teeny tiny skinny text size that may be even more difficult to read on an 8 inch screen.
News of a slim PS5 coming this fall/winter is what I was hoping for. Also with a web browser and new ui that allows custom themes like my PS3 and PS4 do.
While I have little interest in mobile gaming I do question the design and cost of this product. It costs more than a DualSense? Then there is asymmetrical sticks instead of the symmetrical sticks playstation users are accustomed to using. Some for over 20 years.
PS1 is best overall, however for me the stimulus response of the PS2 startup sound is epic. To add to that startup sound is the startup music of the 5 Gta games that followed. Pure magic.
What next? Video game ad blockers. When a friend questioned the amount of time I play games I said yes I do however it is nearly 100% ad free, at least the games I play and how I use my PS4. Same when I read a book, just hundreds of pages of pleasure free of ads.
However one feels about ads, and some may say just don't watch them, the ads are there. When ads are there people see them whether they think they do or not. The ads then have some influence on the viewer.
Gone are the days when bundles included games at no added cost. Bundles like this and the GOW bundle are just an annoying tacked on higher price when the buyers have no desire to play those games. Then there is for some the even more added cost to purchase black color side plates.
I think multiple ways to play games can co-exist for the many play types. That includes mobile player, PC players, big screen recliner players, how many hours of play, backlog size, and how many different games are played per year.
What do I want? I still want physical copies of large file AAA games, and with it playable without a mandatory download. None of that the disc is just a key noise.
For game subs like Plus I enjoy the supplement of games for the price. Streaming is nice especially to get a taste before downloading if that is optional. I also want dlc and game capture which are not available with streaming, dlc is only available if already included in both streaming and download. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are only half a game without the dlc.
Like mentioned by others there is only so much time, more games does not equal more time. Plus like netfix is scrolling through lots of no's to find a yes, and if there were more yes's then there is no more hours in a day to play/watch.
Overall I see a future of all digital, download and streaming. Physical may only exist for a small niche market. Gaming will go the same path that music and video took. The only question then will be how many subs will we need, how much the cost, and how many will be downloadable. Will purchase of an individual game still exist for those that want guaranteed availability for replays.
I want it bad, I want it now. However there is the reality of my budget. Last week I purchased a new disc copy of RE Village for 20 bucks. The money I saved over the new price was used to purchase two hardbound books.
Scalpers are profiteers and only exist if they have customers. Scalping a non postponable necessity is one thing, event tickets, toys, game consoles, and other optional stuff is another thing. Those that purchase optional stuff from scalpers are scalper enablers. No one's life depends on getting a PS5.
I remember hot Xmas toys and game consoles being scalped. People would buy at a retail store than advertise in newspapers to sell for huge profits. Cars in very short supply would be sold by the dealer at over sticker price. The car would then be advertised as garaged and never used, and accepting offers.
That scalping was before profiteers could purchase stuff before the items could be put on store shelves, and easily purchasing large amounts so there would be none on store shelves. No need to highjack a truckload, just buy in quantity electronically.
One solution I can think of is to only deliver to legit stores like Target, Best Buy, and others while mandating in store purchase only. Also limited to one purchase. Another is for available only through the Playstation store with only one unit allowed per account while supplies are low. However the best solution is to just say "no" to the scalpers.
I remember the reveal trailer at E3 2014. Watched it live and at the beginning I thought could this be a GTA 5 dlc? Some areas in recent trailers still look a lot like Los Santos.
I hope DI2 is my next favorite zombie game. Zombies beware, the Zombinator is coming 🤺.
Other than no iron sights this looks good, especially combat even with no reticle. Going from fp to 3rd person in combat can often feel too out of body. The switch between views in scenes are smooth.
TLOU PS4 remaster overall has excellent 3rdP camera work and controls. That may be why this fp mod works so well unlike how horrible the added fp camera works in GTA 5. Fallout and Elder Scroll games have an excellent fp to 3p one button tap switch. This mod shows that such an on the go switch could add to game play. A field of view slider should be standard no matter the view. Also in fp when looking down we should see legs and feet.
For me good game camera like good movie cinematography is when I am not aware of it, good or bad. While playing TLOU remaster I never thought about the camera.
Dishonored, Kena, Wolfenstein, and some Doom looks good. Dishonored, PS3, was a rental near release that I only played a few hours and never finished it. I remember liking it some but that's about all I remember.
Two lol moments before any combat, and head stomp kills without need to level up. I want this game to be good enough that I can't wait for a price drop.
@burning_as_souls, The ugly thing is new for me. All of my previous consoles, SNES, PS2, 3, and 4 have all just blended in. Not pretty, not ugly, but just blended in. Same with my tv's, stereo, vcr, dvd player and into my kitchen my microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Then comes the big, ugly, and weird looking PS5. I doubt it would ever blend in, go unnoticed, and not annoy me.
Consoles always disappoint. The PS3,4,5 are all underpowered for what we want, think should be, or feel led to believe. The norm it seems is wait for the next gen version to get the 1080p or 4K, and smooth 60fps desired in the highest resolution the game can output.
About cross gen. PS3 and 4 had less I imagine because of the vast power difference along with the cell processor of the PS3. The similarities between the 4 and 5, and maybe the mid gen PRO made cross gen very possible and profitable.
Cross gen holding back the 5. Maybe some, but maybe it is long development times and how well some can scale their games to two different gen's specs.
Overall I'm still enjoying my PS4 PRO and the cross gen games. I will not purchase the current big ugly PS5. I think a slim 5 is definitely needed and also a PRO to extend the current generation. Slim 2023, PRO 2024 is my guess, but how huge may a PRO be? Could it even be uglier?
The PS3 slim was released 34 months after the fat original released. So my guess is a slim PS5 this fall. A slim made even slimmer with the disc drive an attachable option. Hopefully all black as standard. The easily swapped out side plates remain for those that want other colors.
I consider the PS3 retro when compared to the PS5 because of age and features. While not as old as PS2 and PS1 the PS3's features, tech, and graphics are different enough than the current gen to be retro to me.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Red Dead Redemption's PS4 Port?
The price is ok for first time players. For veterans, some still with their PS3 and a disc copy, a wait for a price drop is what most may do.
Re: Hands On: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Port Seems Solid, But Should Be So Much More
I attempted a replay on my PS3 about 3 years ago but lost interest after about an hour or so because of the graphics. Even a non remastered upgrade in graphics and smooth 30fps has me considering purchasing this new version of RDR after a price drop.
The big deal here will be for the experience first time players will have. $50 for the game and Nightmare dlc for them will be good value.
However one feels about ads, and some may say just don't watch them, the ads are there. When ads are there people see them whether they think they do or not. The ads then have some influence on the viewer.
Re: Final Fantasy 16's PS5 Console Bundle Can Be Pre-Ordered Now
Gone are the days when bundles included games at no added cost. Bundles like this and the GOW bundle are just an annoying tacked on higher price when the buyers have no desire to play those games. Then there is for some the even more added cost to purchase black color side plates.
Re: Activision Poised to Pocket a Cool $3 Billion if Xbox Buyout Breaks Down
The sound of Sad Trombones followed by Don Pardo telling ABK that their consolation prize is $3,000,000,000. Must be nice.
Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Dead Island 2?
I want it bad, I want it now. However there is the reality of my budget. Last week I purchased a new disc copy of RE Village for 20 bucks. The money I saved over the new price was used to purchase two hardbound books.
Re: Scalped PS5 Prices Plummet as Retail Stock Surges
Re: Dead Island 2 (PS5) - A Surprisingly Refreshing Zombie Slasher
Deal breaker alert. No character reflection in bathroom mirror at 4:20. What's the deal with that?
Seriously all I need now is a good PS4 PRO review. Maybe mirror relections will be patched in.
Re: Dead Island 2 Launch Trailer Brings a Nine-Year Wait to an End
I remember the reveal trailer at E3 2014. Watched it live and at the beginning I thought could this be a GTA 5 dlc? Some areas in recent trailers still look a lot like Los Santos.
I hope DI2 is my next favorite zombie game. Zombies beware, the Zombinator is coming 🤺.
Re: Random: The Last of Us Is Finally an FPS in Jaw-Dropping PC Mod
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for April 2023?
Dishonored, Kena, Wolfenstein, and some Doom looks good. Dishonored, PS3, was a rental near release that I only played a few hours and never finished it. I remember liking it some but that's about all I remember.
Re: 16 Games Hit PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Doom, Doom, Doom, more Doom, even more Doom. Did I forget to mention Doom? Man this list is the most Doomiest.
Seriously not a bad list. I'll play some Doom and Wolfenstein from this list.
Re: Watch Dead Island 2's Blood-Soaked Opening in New Gameplay Video
Two lol moments before any combat, and head stomp kills without need to level up. I want this game to be good enough that I can't wait for a price drop.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Really Is Targeting 2024 Release Date
@burning_as_souls, The ugly thing is new for me. All of my previous consoles, SNES, PS2, 3, and 4 have all just blended in. Not pretty, not ugly, but just blended in. Same with my tv's, stereo, vcr, dvd player and into my kitchen my microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Then comes the big, ugly, and weird looking PS5. I doubt it would ever blend in, go unnoticed, and not annoy me.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Really Is Targeting 2024 Release Date
Consoles always disappoint. The PS3,4,5 are all underpowered for what we want, think should be, or feel led to believe. The norm it seems is wait for the next gen version to get the 1080p or 4K, and smooth 60fps desired in the highest resolution the game can output.
About cross gen. PS3 and 4 had less I imagine because of the vast power difference along with the cell processor of the PS3. The similarities between the 4 and 5, and maybe the mid gen PRO
made cross gen very possible and profitable.
Re: Random: Today Is Horizon Protagonist Aloy's Birthday
🥳Happy Birthday🥳
Re: Rumour: Unannounced Sony Hardware in the Works, Releasing Before PS5 Pro
The PS3 slim was released 34 months after the fat original released. So my guess is a slim PS5 this fall. A slim made even slimmer with the disc drive an attachable option. Hopefully all black as standard. The easily swapped out side plates remain for those that want other colors.
Re: Soapbox: Hold On, Is the PS3 a Retro Console?
I consider the PS3 retro when compared to the PS5 because of age and features. While not as old as PS2 and PS1 the PS3's features, tech, and graphics are different enough than the current gen to be retro to me.
