Not played quite few games on the list but psychonauts 2 was very good. Fantastic art style and great narrative that manages to walk a fine line with potentially problematic subject material. Need to play ratchet and Clank in the battle of the action platformers.
Some more forza horizon 5, I don't think 30 fps has ever felt as smooth as it does in the quality mode of this. I'm feeling the urge to return to boletaria and play some more demon souls.
I only played it for the first time on switch a couple of years back and for me it didn't hold up the way in the way I've found other games of that gen have. I'm sure at the time though it was mind blowing!
I have played very little today as my switch and tv were commandeered by my daughter to play the animal crossing dlc. She got really in to designing the holiday homes, great to watch her play and get creative.
I thought it looked really good but I'll be interested to see how the signposting works. I know there's the directions from whatever they are calling bonfires but in a true open world fromsoft game it might be really tricky to differentiate an area your not meant to be in from time to get gud!
@NEStalgia I've just finished dread and wow, that final boss fight!! It's very tough but I found the pattern was very consistent, like I would wipe the first 4-5 times then come through only losing a tank or two.
Metroid dread for me, my days its good. Its only my second metroidvania (my first was hollow knight and I loved it, though I thought it was brutal hard in parts) and first metroid game. The movement and combat are so good! Right there with psychonauts 2 as my favourite game of the year so far
@munstre Sony interactive announced a 3.2 billion operating profit in April 2021, predominantly driven by services such as plus, now and store slices of microtransactions. I'm not sure it would take millions of additional users to afford ps5 versions of games they are already licensing for their subscription service. As a consumer, would you not find that more attractive? I suspect we are not going to agree, have a good weekend and enjoy whatever your playing 👍
@Falkirk4life if you want to own it forever, absolutely. The addition to gamepass is often to give people a taste to tempt you to buy. If you want to play through once to reminisce as you've already played the game, when you already have access to that subscription service, not really. Nice username, I'm a fan of the wheel!!
Some metroid dread, just got the ability to go invisible and go through sensor doors. I'm working so not tons of time but will maybe try rider's Republic too.
@munstre actually the business reasons are why it's madness. They would attract more people into a subscription based service with opportunity for recurring revenue versus a one off payment. Having a streaming/download service that doesn't support your current gen hardware makes no business sense.
Not giving people ps5 versions of games is sheer madness by Sony. Smart delivery sounded overblown until you use it and realise how much of a smart decision it was to build your systems around that principle.
Hades, made it to the surface for the first time but with only 35 health and no death defy left, I await my first escape. I am so bad at this game, have done 22 runs and switched god mode on about 10 runs ago and still haven't made it out. Credit to the game though, through success and failure they have managed to keep the steady drip of new story beets going and the game itself is so tightly polished I want to keep going
I like the setting, was lucky enough to visit Cuba a decade or so ago and it's a beautiful place. I really like giancarlo esposito and I enjoyed bits of 4 but as a sandbox to do fun crazy shizzle in, I think I would rather play mgsv again than a far cry. I just don't dig how homogeneous most ubisoft games are.
Will be interested to see what changes there are to movement, how the game handles checkpoints and what the soundtrack is like before I dip. Tbh, they sound like perfect switch titles, comfort food you can play on the go or when the fam are watching awful TV on the big television!
Have finished a play through of nier automata and starting my second run. I nearly bounced off this game but after some advice from folks here in pushsquare community have kept playing and am enjoying the story, even though it bat s#!t crazy!! Played some more hitman 2 and got a 5 star run for florida mission and discovered my fave disguise of the campaign so far. Have a good one folks
If there is a meaningful upgrade to graphics, qol improvements like improved checkpoints, improved movement and unified driving handling/feel I'll give it a whirl. San andreas blew my mind at the time
@Olmaz for when you see performance dips. If the fps is locked and stable its fine its more for when you there are dips you don't get tearing if you pan the screen round. I've got a series x and the only game I've mucked about and seen a difference with is flight simulator. Panning the screen round with the right stick was much smoother. Also seen some articles saying it might help for 45 fps games, which is where I would want it for ps5 for games like ratchet and resi 8.
I'd take pga 2k21 but the rest are pretty poor. Mortal kombat 11 would be different but why 10? Plus is better than games with gold but hopefully there is better stuff down the road. The last couple of months haven't been great for me
Some more nier automata maybe but tried out tony hawk 1+2 and wow, it's so much fun!! So snackable and hard to not just try 1 more run. I remember being better at it though back in the day. Tried the fifa 22 trial on gamepass and actually really enjoyed it! Haven't tried any online but as someone who was always a pes person, this fifa feels closer to football than any fifa I've played before. Downloaded burnout paradise too and might give it a try out. Have a good weekend folks!
I'm feeling I'm very close to the end of psychonauts 2 and despite having no history with the series, it's been brilliant! The writing has been surprisingly good, the potential to go very wrong given the subject matter is real high but they nail both humour and sensitivity. The graphics are lovely too, great example of what you can do when not focussed on photo-realism. Havent smiled so much at a game since astrobot. Some more red dead online for the last of the story missions and don't know whether to start nier automata, yakuza 2 or night in the woods before it leaves gamepass. Have a great weekend folks
I've not bought it but one for down the line either on a deal or gamepass. I played and finished dishonored but didn't love it and though I'm intrigued by the rave reviews, I've already got tons of games to play.
Great review Liam, I will be interested to see how this does. Lots of this sounds really interesting but it's just not something I'll be rushing out to buy. @LiamCroft does it have performance/quality modes and did you try out invading other players worlds in the protect the loop option?
If this comes out at £30 with a shark card, I might play it again. The campaign is a bit forgettable but the 4 heists are really good. If it comes out at 70, no way. I'll wait for that san andreas remake/remaster. I can't see gta 6 coming out before 2024 realistically.
No danger, they have been pretty clear that the only other games they are considering 10 quid upgrade for is god of war and gt7. This is a whole new purchase inevitably and versus smart delivery, it sucks. I have Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo systems and Microsoft have handed the Cross gen stuff much better. If they charge 70 bucks for this, its right up there with Nintendo charging 50 for skyward sword then linking fast travel to a lump of plastic. Naughty dog are some of my favourite developers in the industry but I'll be waiting until they give these away on plus or its sub 20 quid before I dip.
I thought it was good. Insomniac are sonys jewel in the crown at the moment. I called out a fair while ago that I was disappointed that God of war sequel was cross gen but I'm sure its still going to be a good game. I'm worried naughty dogs game will be a last of us remastered with actors from the upcoming TV show. I thought we might get a tease from them of what they are up to.
Aye overall I thought it was good. The first party stuff looked good, the flashes of gameplay from God of war looked good, insomniac amaze me and GT7 looks good though I like my racers more arcadey. The bayonetta looking thing looked decent and I'm up for kotor.
Very tricky as for a UK consumer, the price rise from £50 to £70 has always felt too big a jump. So in UK 10 quid charge from £50 ps4 game is still cheaper than buying a ps5 version!! Add to the fact that resell price is higher for ps4 version of games as there are so many more ps4 owners, it makes a very strange situation. I honestly think that if they had the £10 upgrade option for horizon from the start, there wouldn't be anywhere near this uproar. Wanting people to buy a whole separate version of the game is mental and at least they walked that back.
I played it a few months ago on the 360 and I thought it still held up. Gameplay was a bit clunky but I enjoyed it. Too soon for me to go back but never played the dlc, maybe this will come bundled with it.
You need a mix in your portfolio of games. Astro shows what you can still do with a smaller budget, from reviews returnal as well. There are going to be marquee prestige titles that you only get a handful of in a generation and they will be expensive but they also push a whole bunch of people to your platform. The reason the ps4 outsold the xbox one so heavily was those games. If people want to think about models that help support aa and bigger indie games, there's a good chance that looks like a gamepass subscription model.
@Octane sure does, once it's in your library it let's you download the patch for hitman 2 levels into hitman 3. I don't even think you ever need to download hitman 2 for the import to work.
I played the first one and whilst I found the setting and premise really interesting, it mostly didn't land for me. It seems very self-contained as well. I'd rather see Kojima try something new
Been playing quite a few things, which is unusual as I tend never to have more than a couple of games on the go. Played some red dead online and unlocked the moonshine and bounty hunter roles (if anyone wants to posse up then give me a shout). Played some more new vegas and found my way to ellis airfield after some gruesome deaths! Tried out psychonauts 2 having never played the first game and did not expect it to be some nickelodeon art style take on inception and finally had a few mk8d races on the switch with the family. Have a great weekend folks
Only ever played a bit of 3 on the switch, not sure what folk are getting vexed about. Interested to see if it launches with a decent online, 4 player co-op in a big dumb open world that learns some of the lessons of gta online might do quite well.
I've been playing a bit of RDO as I've had the craving to return to the wild west and it definitely scratches that itch. Tbh though with 1440 p with rock solid 30 fps and faster load times on ps5 a remaster really isn't needed. I'd rather have 60 fps patch and call it a day like the last of us 2.
