That's awesome! GR is a really fun franchise that would make a really neat series or anime. Its a shame the franchise will likely never see another game in the current landscape of big budgets and huge sales projections
I didn't even know you could get mods on PS for Bethesda games. Shows how far behind I am. Played Bethesda games to death on PS3 and dabbled with Skyrim VR
I think Sony has shown they can manage studios very well.
They really should dissolve the higher ups at Bungie, reducing costs and clearly bad decision making over the last 10 years, and let the talented developers do their job like other Sony first party studios.
The first game really didn't click with me (I did finish it). But based on these comments, I'm glad to see there's an audience and Sony is investing in something different than a traditional 3rd person adventure game or GaaS!
I'm not a GTA fan, but somehow this just shot to the top of my gaming wish list. I want to be on of those 'Florida Mans'
Although it's crazy how GTA doesn't even need to parody the real world today...that crap happens every day...America has morphed into the joke of itself.
I really hope Xbox doesn't exit the console race. We see how lazy Sony is when they're ahead. The latter half of the PS3 when Sony was trying to stand out and catch up the 360 was their best years. And it paid off cause in the end they overtook the 360.
Although it looks like in a console generation from now Xbox may be the next Stadia with online only and on every device thru the cloud
A lot of their practices are very predatory - but isn't that almost all GaaS type games? They all use FOMO or other tactics to engage players just like Destiny.
I think what Bungie has nailed, is knowing how to engage players for years, and they have massive data on what works and what doesn't. And for the most part, even with all the negativity over the years (almost every expansion....) They still have managed to engage a HUGE number of players for 7 years and kept a studio of 1000 people financed through it.
The issue is in the fact that D2 has failed to innovate enough over time, and resources clearly spread out other places. It's a fantastic game to play, the gunplay is phenomenal. But after 7 years you're going to start to get burnt out if it's not innovating enough. Bungie should have leaned more into the MMO aspects of the game (which they've moved away from dramatically) and spaced out larger sized expansions and big overhauls versus repetitive seasons. But again, it's all good data for Sonys other games.
Hopefully Sony stops doing a copy/paste of old game styles (e.g. Sackboy runner) and does their own thing. Copycat games rarely have longevity or stand out.
If they copy Genshin with this Horizon MMO, I don't see it lasting, but if they make it unique enough it could be a huge hit.
Hard to imagine a time when Rockstar worked on more than 1 or 2 games.
Honestly I have a hard time believing they're working on anything but GTA6 and content for it. RDR2 really didn't make money like the GTA series does so I could see them focusing on GTA only in the future.
This is his 3rd or so Mobile game since Automata launched. So frustrating he keeps working on annoying gacha games instead of console experiences after the massive success of Automata.
I tried his previous gacha game when it released in the states SinOAlice or whatever....it was neat for like a week.
I've been interested in this since day 1 but never bought it for this exact reason.
Yes I'm part of the problem, but this is what subscriptions has done to the industry. Tailored me to be patient and just wait for games to come to the service. Worked for Horizon 2 and Miles Morales and many others....
This is the first COD I'm excited for since PS3 era.
I had no idea it was just MW2 content until the reviews came in and now I'm excited and want to buy it....although at 70$ I'll probably wait. I put 32 days of playtime between when MW2 and BO1 launched. It's embarrassing but a time I look back on as my golden days of gaming with friends.
Gaming has become just like TV/Movies. Relying on established IPs and cranking out same after same. Thankfully the quality of indie games/AA games from small studios have really increased over the last decade
I'm interested to see how this turns out. Honestly it seems like X could use PS more than the other way around right now. Negotiations should be interested, although we'll never hear about it after this.
We can be sure of one thing. Gamers will overhype and idolize this studio for the next few years like CDPR after Witcher 3.
Hopefully they can work on simultaneous games and return to Divinity universe while also branching out to other things. They're so big now they almost need to work on multiple titles to keep the cash flow going.
Thankfully they also have a normal name unlike Sonys typical products. I've already forgotten the name of their flashship ones mentioned in the article I read 20 seconds ago lol.
I have mixed feelings on this. If they can revamp it to feel like a quality game that can be enjoyed both offline and online then I'm all for it!
However, if it's a multiplayer only game still, I don't see it making a dent when the market is flooded with F2P multiplayer games or premium games with established IPs. Games like Exoprimal etc have generally seemed to fail to catch on when they require an upfront investment for something that's online multiplayer only.
I would love to see how AI could be integrated with RPGs games like Elder Scrolls/Fallout.
I totally understand the issues surrounding AI and jobs, but if integrated correctly I really could see it bringing a new dimension to games. Graphics are no longer a leap between generations, but these are the types of gameplay advances that can really make games feel deeper and 'next gen'
Only reason I haven't gotten BG3 yet is due to digital only. If I walked by it at my local Walmart, I'd have picked it up, but being available anytime from my couch....might as well wait until I'm ready to play, a sale could pop up!
I hope not. 5 was fantastic but is so held back by releasing on PS3, I really hope they learned and will make this current gen only, we know it'll get insane support for the next decade, I hope that support can take advantage of current power.
'company laid off employees because they're not making enough money, so let's cancel preorders and show them!'. How does that not just compound the problem to laying off more people. This isn't a small indie dev, they don't care about anything but $$. Gaming landscape has changed. All these companies care about is maximizing profits. Micro transactions and dlc of PS3 era have become 20$ skins and drip fed crumbles of content.
The fact that they relied on a 2017 game to fund 1100 employees and development of 3 games is mind boggling. Especially when said quality of releases is not good.
Revisiting the PS3 made me realize how many games/genres Sony was pushing in those days. Especially on the publishing end.
They really need to step up their Indie/publishing smaller titles. Investing tons of money into these live service failures is not helping them. I get it, from a business perspective they need to chase trends, but man I miss the days of random games like Fat Princess.
They should have let their studios experiment with small scale live service titles to test the waters.
Let the teams be creative and experiment and figure out what works and what doesn't.
The shift in gaming to chase the latest trends has never worked. This new Sony strategy is going to bite them. They went from releasing so many unique games to only single player third person adventure games -which was okay when everyone else was doing multiplayer - but have lost that unique and fun edge over the last decade.
It's crazy that Bungie was able to get the game basically canceled.
As a hardcore player of Destiny 2, their live service is terrible. They have the unique position of having ZERO competitors in the space and great gunplay. All their core activities are so stale, their revenue models (seasons) have been so redundant and so much in need of a shakeup, they're being done away with next year.
U2, U3 and Factions had fantastic multiplayer and engagement. Especially U3. Let ND do their thing, don't turn it into the grindy checklist that Destiny is.
Although ND did massively screw up with U4 multiplayer which is insane to me since all they had to do was copy U3
Home was a neat concept. I enjoyed the 'marketing' aspects of it, as I could visit a virtual RE5 booth and play mini games and such. I think I remember a virtual E3 in there one year.
I had a schoolmate who lived in PS Home, for him it was a second a life and he had a whole community there, it had its audiences and would be neat to see a revival for people who love that sort of thing.
Honestly, it's time for Tomb Raider to find a new development home. I wish Sony would have got it and used it as a way to give us more adventurer style games while Uncharted takes a break. Could have piggybacked the franchises to reduce the franchise fatigue between them.
As someone who played each CD Tomb Raider with the launch of Legend (and as a young child attempted to play the originals on PC), I'd consider myself a pretty big fan. Underworld was one of my favorite PS3 games.
2013 was fun, but very flawed when compared to it's main competitor, Uncharted. Rise was very enjoyable and a clear step in the right direction with a few flaws.
But Shadow.....what a hot pile of absolute garbage that should disappear (yeah I know it wasn't fully developed by CD, but they still had a hand in it)
Unfortunately I guess I'm part of the problem. This is a game I looked forward to playing and something I would have gotten day 1 a few years ago.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want from Sony and PlayStation in 2024?
Hoping Sonys upcoming games can kick off this gen! Spider man, GoW etc all are just iterations of what was awesome during PS4.
Let's get some new PS5 defining experiences!
Re: Kaitlyn Dever Will Play Abby in HBO's The Last of Us Season 2
I hope they can find a way to make Bella Ramsay look older than 13. While skeptical of the choice, I thought she did a good job.

Re: PlayStation's Head of Third Party Deals and Acquisitions Gives Insight into How It All Works
I wish Sony would push more partnerships to embrace haptic feedback. It's so underutilized in a lot of games.
Heck Sonys own Bungie doesn't even have it implemented!
Re: Site News: We Need You to Fill Out Our Reader Survey
Survey exposed how few games I bought this year. Probably my lightest year ever. But I do play a lot of PS+ or backlog games.

Re: Feature: Predict The Game Awards 2023 with Our 20 Question Quiz
I love these quizzes! Doesn't feel like a year ago that we had the last one!
I'd be surprised if we got a drop of info on anything Sony related during the show.

Re: GTA 6 Trailer Debuts on Tuesday, 5th December
I'm not a series fan, played 5 back at launch but that's it, but I'm excited for this one.
I like the premise of GTA Online, but the controls and gunplay are so awful I gave up very quickly.
Re: More Resident Evil Remakes Are on the Way, Capcom Confirms
RE5 is in my top 5 games of all time.
Capcom better not screw this up. It's so easy to tweak. Open up the sections more, make the lighting better. Make it more like RE4remake basically.

Re: Sony Confirms Strategic Partnership with South Korean Publisher NCSOFT
@NinjaSixx They're publicly traded. They have to show/attempt to branch out and grow and mobile is the biggest market right now.
A huge part of the MS/Activision deal was for the mobile component as well.

@nessisonett I'm pretty sure the layoffs were mainly in non-production roles such as community management etc.

Re: Players Point Out Destiny 2's New Crossover Cosmetics Probably Cost More Than The Witcher 3 and All Its DLC
It's amazing when you think back 10 years ago at what DLC cost and what microtransactions cost.
I think LBP costumes were like 0.99$ each. That's a real microtransaction, when a full game expansion cost 15-20$.
Now we don't even get expansions as DLCs it's just costumes that cost the same price as the game a year after it launches.
Re: Alright, Destiny 2's Witcher 3 Crossover Armour Is Cool
These crossover sets are pretty bad. The PS crossover was the worst, but outside of the Titan, id have no idea it was Witcher themed.
Plus they're 20$ a costume. At least in COD you can get something that ACTUALLY looks like Lara Croft lol.

Re: Poll: What Will Win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023?
This is the first year Sony isn't hugely represented which feels so weird. But as good as Spidey is, AW2 and BG3 deserve to sweep the awards!
It's an amazing time for gaming when two amazing single player, non mainstream genres are the best games of the year!
