Discord is use so much wider than games, The discord community has become one of the primary support and client communication platforms at work, we are the leading designer of SoCs. Personally I use Discord across so many aspects of life both work and play. Discord is not going to change to suit PlayStation, and Playstation does not need it to change. Xbox already has discord integration and I expect Playstation will follow suit. It should be a win/win for all gamers and supporters of open platforms.
Apart from Demon's souls this is will be the main justification for buying a PS5. I've picked up HZD on epic game store for £8 in their Xmas sale (with discount coupons) After seeing how well that game plays on powerful hardware I'm a lot less concerned about HFW being cross gen. Playing HZD at max settings / 120 fps is just great. If Sony can take a game made purely for PS4 and make it look and play that well then I'm sure they can pull off a great PS5 game while still supporting PS4 on low settings.
What a great list, a few games off the main track for me to search out. I've come to expect these lists always being the same few games in different orders with a couple dropping in it out of any one list. Nice to have a bit of left field
It kind of depresses me to hear all the talk of pre-orders still 2021. I just don't understand why people would still chose to pay a higher price for the lowest quality version of a product that is completely unrated and where scarcity does not exist. It really shows the grip marketing can have on the nuts of those off a persuadable nature.
Don't get me wrong, I expect this to be a great game, same with Elden Ring. But I'll wait until the day I'm ready to load the game, after reading the reviews and making sure they are well patched before I drop a single penny, and Sony will reward me for doing so with a better price for a better product.
I think I'm very much in the minority but I never got on with FF7 remake, I have good memories of playing the original, or at least my rose glasses paint the memories well. But I did not jell with the remake at all. I hope to revisit it at some point but as it stands I will be buying part2.
@Daleaf Yep, taking a screwdriver and adjusting the heads until the pitch sounds just right on the tape you copied from your mate who copied from his mate who.... But the worst where the games with copy protection, purchased games would take 10 minutes Plus and fail to load half the time once the tape had been worn a bit. Often spent half a morning getting something to load and would beg my folks not to turn off the spectrum just to get home to see it unplugged every time.
@Tharsman I start a lot of games on Game Pass that I have little expectation of finishing just to try them out and see a wider spectrum of games than I otherwise would choose. Every now and then one clicks and that's plenty motivation for me to keep on trying the odd ball stuff.
Screenshot always look better than in motion but HZD was already a great looking game so gameplay improvement (which was also already very good) would be my main ask if I was playing on PS4. Would also be good if the hair bonce was a little less distracting. I not looking for massive change, more of the same and a story as good as the first will see me happy.
@Balosi Of course, many people like this, It's just most games make this optional. It's the fact that it is forced unless you pay to skip it that means Ubi went from my favourite to being crossed of the list completely. I have limited time and want the maximum return on time invested.
The "new" AS games have no respect for your time. They are full of mindless filler that insist you spend hours and hours on the most mundane stuff to progress. Odyssey was the last AC game I will ever buy. Luckily I was able to trade it in 2 days after buying and got most my money back. But, after buying almost everything Ubi put out on the PS3 I swore them off that day and never looked at another of their games since. If its true that the Splinter cell remake will not be open world I may give that a go.
I played a while back on PC and had a good time with it. I'm surprised it has performance issues on PS5 as I'm sure I was topping out my 144 Hz screen. If you just want some fun and don't take it to seriously then I can think of far worse ways to spend a few hours.
@kingbreww They could be described as such, but its a trick they have mastered and refined over the years. Doing one thing extremely well is far more than most games achieve.
I have this (free game from either Prime or Epic) sitting along with about 500 others in my back catalogue. I really should move this up the list at some point. I think I even installed it at one point only for it to be totally ignored. I really should stop buying games!!
I want to see a new Deathloop trailer and a Knack 1+2 remaster along side the inevitable announcement of Knack 3, 4 and 5. Anything less and I will throw all my belongings onto the floor, call everyone involved with the games industry a disappointment to the human race and swear off gaming for 5 minutes/Life.
I think this will be worth it for me, Just the trip down memory lane. I recall my wife giving me hard time about being to old to still be playing games.. 25 years ago when I was playing the first one.
Just to many problems this month, Godfall, the half a game edition, Mortal Shell, the game most people played on gamepass already and a Lego game. With Epic also giving away Godfall I expect its moments away from going free to play.
I'm quite hyped for the game awards. I'm hoping we get a window into the first half of this generation. although I'm quite sure I will leave a bit let down. I'm not sure its possible to meet the expectations we build in our heads at this point.
I'm not sure where everyone is getting the game pass pricing from but it's only £7.99 pm for me to play anything and I have had a couple of free months from points earned on game pass. So about the price off one Sony first party game a year. Sony is not going to drop that low. I hope this is more than just renaming PS Now to PS + +
I have to say I'm not a fan of the PS5. I find it very ugly and have mine in the coms cupboard. That's not working great as the controller just connects. I find myself using the X as its right in front of me. I'll be first in line for the toned down slim version that I can have on the shelf. I did pick up some black side plates but, while they look much better, they do anything about the size or the stupid shape of the thing. I imagine I would have liked it when I was 12 but at 50 I like my tech to disappear into the back ground not scream at the top of its voice. Also can you just give Dolby Atmos please. Your 3d audio does not support any of the 3D audio set-ups out there
I really can't believe people would still be willing to pay actual money for these games still. I how many times to folks need to be taken for a ride before they finally learn. Even if this years game actually works surely no-one would be silly enough to buy it to find out?
It's a stain on Rockstars name for sure. If you think of the damage to CDPR's brand and the future cost to share holders its hard to understand. It's all about short term gain these days in the gaming industry.
I loved these games first time round but I tried S.A on gamepass and it was pretty poor. I would have been quite upset if I'd paid good money for it. Its a shoddy cash grab of a remaster and the games deserve better.
I'm one of the few who will be happy if PS release games on PC day one. I'll still play on PS but the more Sony makes from software sales the more they will invest in game development. It's a win win
I don't tend to crack current gen machines (you are not hacking by implementing someone else's code) I'm a firm believer in the fact that once you buy something its your to do with what you like. But if I wanted to play pirated games I'd play them on the PC.
I got a free copy of this when a bought a Intel CPU at release. It was really bad then. I think I had two 2080's in my PC at the time (work) and it looked like it had Vaseline smeared over the screen. Played about an hour and never looked at it again. I'm sure its better now but it lost me a long time ago.
Its Ok, but I don't have time for Ok. Even more so on a game that has no beginning/End. I'm usually happy to invest a few hours in to something different but this was deleted after 30 minutes.
I'm not sure I wanted a open world souls game. I mean I wanted a souls game and will take what's on offer but its not a change I craved. Also a souls game where you can jump off cliffs without fall damage, that seems off. It don't matter in the end, Its from From and I will be playing it.
I don't like the new AC's. I really liked the older games. So for me this a outright No thanks. But many people like the last three games and the new AC formula. For those people this seems like the natural progression. Yes, I miss the old AC games but not every game if for every player and this seems to sound like what the fans of the "new" formula have been looking for more and more of each release. I hope Ubi finds it way to making games that stand apart from each other again and if I lose one franchise forever but find other games that interest me again then I still end up better off
What they should be doing is making sure the post are done in a cost effective way, internal or external, and perform well so they sell well. That way Sony has more return on investment, meaning more funds to invest into developing new games, and finally resulting in more fantastic games for us to play. That is the point in all this, great games to play not one upping other gamers over who can play what.
Well, I'll still be buying every PS released, for the simple fact that consoles are by far the cheapest way to play games at a high quality and a offer no fuss sit on the sofa play experience. And I'm someone that always has very powerful PC's at home for work use. I mean my current home office PC has 16 cores, 64 Gigs of RAM and 2 RTX 3900 . Not built for gaming, built to do work and It works hard. Of course I could sit in my office on game on it, I do very occasionally but when I sit at my desk I think work and so I end up doing work, My sons have Ryzen3800/rtx2080 pc's they use for school, coding, CAD, DAW and Gaming but even they like to sit back in the games room and play on the big screen. Its social, its no fuss and its away from work.
Even a decent PC will cost you £2K and you will need to update it 2 or 3 times before the PS6 releases if you want to play the latest games. Its really hard to understand gamers sometimes
Like others, I'm glad this is getting well reviewed. I hope it sells well. After the the mess that was avengers I'm hoping this is a lesson on making games for players and not for your marketing/finance departments.
@GREGORIAN So if I'm understanding you right the main reason Sony should not release their games on PC is because you will pirate them? You make it sound like Sony is responsible for your moral standing. I mean you be you but expecting any games company to give a ***** about hurting the feelings of a openly confessed pirate just not going to happen. I think you will find you have lost all credibility on this forum.
Oh Dear, MS games are on PC day 1 and can look better, provided you have a £2K PC. Nintendo games are on PC day one because Nintendo does security like its still 1982. My son was playing BOTW in 4K with ray tracing the other day. Both are still going strong.
The simple fact is Sony wants to make more money in return for the games it creates. End of. And PC is a giant un tapped market that is not owned or controlled by a competitor. In fact Sony has invested heavily into the Epic games store. Clearly Sony wants a piece of the PC pie.
I keep my PS5 hidden in the Comms cupboard I find it so ugly, so these would come in handy if I ever wanted to move it back into the room. But even though these will make it a little smaller its still for to big for my tastes. Still a major improvement
Yep, I think the has more to do with people holding out for the new model switch that any increase in PS5 stock. PS5 may be easier to get hold of now buts that's more likely due to the fact a far portion of the early adopters have nabbed one. Supply has not increased to the point of seeing PS5's on the shelves anywhere. Its only when you can walk in and buy a PS5 well will see its true sales numbers. When that is the case I'd expect the PS5 to take the lead for a extended period. But as stock is, I think this is more to do with the new model switch release than increased PS5 production.
I'm amazed that my PC still loads games a bit faster than my PS5. Both are so quick it makes no difference, Just enough time for a swig of tea. But it does seem to tell me the PS5 does nothing a standard PCIe 4 nvme drive will do as well. I will not bother with top spec / top priced memory when the times comes to expand and will punt for the best value PCIe4 SSD going at the time. Same as I put in my PC that again, loads a second or two faster than the PS5 does with its internal drive. But if your talking 6 or 8 seconds it makes so little difference its not worth dropping a stack of cash on.
This is Sony trying to reinvent the wheel again, this already exists, Its call Dolby Vision, its already supported in loads of games and loads of TVs. It's the same story with Atmos, Sony just not supporting due to the licence costs. I hope, down the line, when production costs drop for the PS5 they will add support with a firmware update. At the moment my PS5 is a exclusives only console as it does not support the features that bring the best out of TV's/Sound set-up.
@Enigk 100 million sales is not 100 million live systems. I bought 3 PS4's just for myself. Day1 PS4 (died) a replacement PS4 and a PS4 Pro. In general after 7 years it may be only 50% are live and active
I've always been frames>res The worst thing about last gen was the 30 fps standard. This gen is looking like everything is going to target 4k with low settings. I'd much rather have 1080/High/60 than the current 4k/Low/60 or Dynamic/High/30 options that are becoming standard.
I would have preferred a 60/1080/RT/High option. For me to much is sacrificed in the name of 4K, Consoles are still getting low/med settings across the board because players are just looking for that 4K sticker instead of image quality. It's the same reason we ended up with so many 30fps/low games last gen. A 1080 picture with everything cranked up to max at 60 FPS out does a poor 4K image every time.
This was always something that they could fix as the console reach E.O.L status with late firmware. Consoles need to fight against piracy to exist and these systems are just a part of that fight.
Clearly the OG PS5 had a lot of headroom in its cooling. I think it is a shame that instead of giving a performance boost down the line they scaled back the cooling solution. MS give the Xbox one a extra 9% performance when in the same situation, can you imagine what a total dog the Xbox One would have been late in the generation without that boost, It was still a dog but wow, it could have been so much worst. I worry the PS5 will be in the same place later this generation and could have really used the boost.
While there is a lot of stories that could be told in the marvel world Sony is far better working on IP it owns. Spiderman is one thing, Sony holds the right, but if Sony is working on Marvels IP its not working on its own IP and long term I think both Sony and PS players would loose out.
I did not buy it but played a bit tonight at my sons place and I don't think I'll make it through the weekend without picking up a copy. I Play across all platforms so was planning on waiting for the GP release but after getting a bit of hands on I recon I'll need to scratch that itch in 12 hours not 12 months. A Win for PlayStation
I still want Dolby Atmos support. Its the main reason why all 3rd party will be played on the SeriesX this gen. I have a 17 speaker set-up and its brilliant in games that support it. It's real 3D audio. Sony's is second rate even using headphones.

Re: Sony Pimps Perfect for PS5 Bravia XR TVs
This is Sony trying to reinvent the wheel again, this already exists, Its call Dolby Vision, its already supported in loads of games and loads of TVs. It's the same story with Atmos, Sony just not supporting due to the licence costs. I hope, down the line, when production costs drop for the PS5 they will add support with a firmware update. At the moment my PS5 is a exclusives only console as it does not support the features that bring the best out of TV's/Sound set-up.
Re: Play At Home Pushes Over 60 Million Downloads on PS5, PS4
@Enigk 100 million sales is not 100 million live systems. I bought 3 PS4's just for myself. Day1 PS4 (died) a replacement PS4 and a PS4 Pro. In general after 7 years it may be only 50% are live and active
Re: PS4 Games That Need a PS5 Patch
I've always been frames>res The worst thing about last gen was the 30 fps standard. This gen is looking like everything is going to target 4k with low settings. I'd much rather have 1080/High/60 than the current 4k/Low/60 or Dynamic/High/30 options that are becoming standard.
Re: God of War Wins IGN's Big Best Video Game of All Time Poll
So I guess this confirms IGN user base has an average age of 18?
Re: There'll Be No Ray Tracing in Far Cry 6 on PS5
I would have preferred a 60/1080/RT/High option. For me to much is sacrificed in the name of 4K, Consoles are still getting low/med settings across the board because players are just looking for that 4K sticker instead of image quality. It's the same reason we ended up with so many 30fps/low games last gen. A 1080 picture with everything cranked up to max at 60 FPS out does a poor 4K image every time.
Re: Sony Fixes PS4 Internal Clock Battery Issue with Firmware Update 9.00
This was always something that they could fix as the console reach E.O.L status with late firmware. Consoles need to fight against piracy to exist and these systems are just a part of that fight.
Re: PS5 Update 2.0 Can Improve Game Performance in Specific Situations
Clearly the OG PS5 had a lot of headroom in its cooling. I think it is a shame that instead of giving a performance boost down the line they scaled back the cooling solution. MS give the Xbox one a extra 9% performance when in the same situation, can you imagine what a total dog the Xbox One would have been late in the generation without that boost, It was still a dog but wow, it could have been so much worst. I worry the PS5 will be in the same place later this generation and could have really used the boost.
Re: Poll: Do You Want Even More PS5 Marvel Games from Sony?
While there is a lot of stories that could be told in the marvel world Sony is far better working on IP it owns. Spiderman is one thing, Sony holds the right, but if Sony is working on Marvels IP its not working on its own IP and long term I think both Sony and PS players would loose out.
Re: Poll: Did You Buy Deathloop?
I did not buy it but played a bit tonight at my sons place and I don't think I'll make it through the weekend without picking up a copy. I Play across all platforms so was planning on waiting for the GP release but after getting a bit of hands on I recon I'll need to scratch that itch in 12 hours not 12 months. A Win for PlayStation
Re: PS5 Firmware 21.02-04: All the New Features and Hidden Changes You Might Have Missed
I still want Dolby Atmos support. Its the main reason why all 3rd party will be played on the SeriesX this gen. I have a 17 speaker set-up and its brilliant in games that support it. It's real 3D audio. Sony's is second rate even using headphones.
