I know the switch has multi home sales advantage but the PS2 sold loads for only dvd use. I bought 2 for my parents as it was the cheapest way to migrate them from VHS. This was peak blockbuster and they sold an official DVD remote bundle. Those PS2's never saw a single game disk but still had many many hours of use. My point is both switch and PS2 have advantages that skew the figures. Don't know how long switch sales will hold up for. I'm guessing that as long as new kids grow into first gaming device, parents will keep buying switches until a replacement comes along. I would think "core" gamer switch sales have been shrinking for some time just to be replaced as the switch is the default kids console purchase now.
I'm not a fan of racing Sims but I do like some Forza horizon. Unless this is added to a monthly bundle though I don't think I'd bother as Forza already scratches that itch with out any additional costs.... It's got to be harder for games going up against established titles on GP or PS++ with subscription model now firmly set
@NEStalgia I've spent so many 1000's of hours in NMS VR. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I highly recommend it. It really comes into it's own in VR
E3 is dead but I will miss it, I stayed up many a late night to catch the news. It was once the perfect week. Bygone era indeed. Everything has been leaked for years now. Now it's in the pile with PlayStation and all the other magazines. Good memories. maybe it's time to bring back the PlayStation magazine, with Demo disks!!
@NEStalgia 😂😂 I believe there would be a whole movement out there for wired controllers. How could there not be.
I have a index and quest 2, I only play PC VR, or at least 95% PC VR and I use the quest 2 almost exclusively even though the Index has better lenses just because it's wireless. At least for myself I will never buy another wired VR headset. But yes, different people will prioritize differently
@thefourfoldroot1 My comment on weight was a response to the fact that wireless needs a battery and is heavy. All these headsets are going to comfy and easy to wear. But having a battery is not going make it any less comfy but weight distribution does come into play after a few hours. I woken many a time with a sour neck from to many hours VR. I have said a word about how it looks?
@neonpizza you talk about image quality but with a Fresnel lens it can only ever be bad. A PS5 is equal to a 2070s not 4090. Just because you discount PC gaming does not negate the millions of PC gamers. And a PSVR-2 attached to a PC will give you 2019 visuals, no matter the GPU, again old lens tech. Of course you'll only have to take 3 steps and untangle the cord to switch your headset over to something modern. And RE village is great in VR, played a while back. PC mods
@NEStalgia WIFI -6 has 9.6 Gbps, PS5 USB has 10Gbps bandwidth. You'd have to go a lot further than the PSVR-2 wire to drop low enough for that to make any difference. And a WIFI 6 dongle cost £30, not a big investment.
PSVR-2 weight 600g, Quest 2 weight 530g so weight not looking good. And with the big lenses out front the balance is not going to match other 2023 VR units. I'm guessing Quest 3 will be about 600g with the battery on the back like the quest pro for balance.
The battery may run low after a few hours of play but you can play and charge at the same time when you need to. Same as controllers for the last few generations but none of us are claiming wired controllers are the future.
Your points just don't match the facts. They would have a year or two ago but that is why I said the PSVR-2 would have been the perfect headset in 2019. It is full of 2019 features with added eye tracking.
@neonpizza @NEStalgia @Octane The two main reasons it is out of date.. Wired, WIFI-6 can stream visuals sub 6ms. Quest 2 has been out years and handles PC wireless streaming. Next giant issue is Fresnel lenses. What is the us of Foveated Rendering when the sweet spot of your lens is only in the centre. I play a lot of VR and after trying pancake Lenses the difference is night and day. There is no comparison with image quality. They also produce a headset half the size. Quest 3 is due this year, confirmed to cost between $300 to $500, confirmed to have pancake lenses, eye tracking and will have both wireless PC and stand alone function. Pico 4 is already out, no eye tracking but wireless PC / Standalone and pancake lenses, yours for $350. PSVR 2 is a perfect 2019 VR headset coming out in 2023 at almost twice the price of the competition.
It's 4 years out of date before it launched. Don't know how PushSquare thinks this is "the next big step" when it's so far behind what's currently happening in VR.
I was not the biggest Horizon fan but did like monster hunter world. I'm guessing that best fits the Horizon world but how well a clone would do would depend on the timing of the next MHW release. I do think Sony needs to move past the cinematic game style, not give it up but add some variation. Personally, that "thing" that made Sony studio games so great last gen is wearing a bit thin for me now. Will be good to see what they come up with.
I'm going to hold off on this till I get a better view. I know a lot of folks really liked AC Valhalla but I found recent AC games completely blotted and this sounds like it's following that model. My preference is firmly 15 hours and move on to the next thing and this game sounds like the opposite of that kind of focused experience.
Yep, will be on PS++ within 6 months and I'll give it a run when it's part of the package. No need to open the wallet again for these level of games in today's market. You know it will be "free" within the year
I play a lot of VR and PSVR2 is the perfect VR headset.... for 2019. I tried pancake lenses a couple of weeks ago and I'll not buy another headset with fresnel lenses, the difference in clarity off centre is just massive. Add in the fact the WIFI 6 is perfect for sub <8 ms streaming and wired VR is history. I'll hold on to my index until quest3 arrives and use that connected wirelessly to PC. I also think the software library is very lacking. RE Village is big one but everything else of interest to me is available else where and there is a mod for RE Village PC
I haven't watched it yet and am probably going to wait so I can binge it but after watching the trailer, it highlighted so many moments from the game. In one way it's great they are showing those know the game that they will not stray to far, on the other hand, we already know the story. Watching GoT when everyone was wondering what would happen next but already knowing years before who lived and who died did took the edge off, this could be the same. Not a fan of the idea for replacing the spores but I'm not a film maker so until I've seen the result I'm to going to judge.
In general I prefer framerate and graphics quality over pixel count. I can rarely tell the difference between 1080 and 4k from where a sit even on my 72 inch screen. It may be due to my old eyes. But very rarely do you get a lower resolution high graphic setting choice as standard. My normal approach though is to try out the options and see what works best for me for the particular game. I do hope one day Consoles will enable you to chose your setting in a more granular way, PC like if you will.
As for this game, I'll be waiting for reviews, as always, before I decide if I'll be opening my wallet.
@BannedUser12 I'm in a wheelchair so am limited to both sitting and limited side movement. I find a lot of games say they support seated play but don't fully and have times it's problematic but movement is never a issue. I hate teleporting in VR but most games have good stick movement, at least none PSVR1 games. With the improved PSVR2 controllers and added power movement on PSVR2 is going to be great.
I play a lot of NMS in VR. I have 1000s if hours, but all on PC. My graphics card is getting on in years and the Index is not cutting edge anymore. I'm waiting to see the performance of NMS/PSVR/PS5 before I decide if I upgraden PC or buy PSVR. PSVR1 was so far off the mark that any measure of improvement over 1 is meaningless.
I'm glad to be dusting off the PS5 for this. 2nd place console this gen for me but Sony still makes must play games. I'm happy for this to be GoW 1.5 as some are saying. If it matches GoW in game play and polish but built on the story I would have been happy. Seems it does much more than just build on the story so looking forward to next weekend.
I'm not so concerned about the price as I am about the software. It needs a game library before I'd be interested. At the moment FB has bought 90% of VR industry and I don't think they are the sharing type. Until it has enough use it's just not on my radar.
No Atmos means I've never used the PS5 for streaming and the couple of times I have started up Netflix colours seem off, and I am using a HDR screen. Clearly not Sony's focus this time around. It's a change from PS1 being many folks first CD player, same with PS2/DVD and PS3/Blueray. Clearly it does not have the same advantage in todays market where streaming devices are cheap and built in to most things.
I loved the first one so looking forward to this. Not sure I needed it to be longer personally but still seems to be a decent length, as long as I'm done under 20 hours I'll be happy.
I think it's going to be a hard sell unless the price is right. Quest 2 @ $299 was a all in one so had a higher perceived value and was a much more complex design. Being stand alone it also satisfied the market for those with a passing interest. PSVR 2 needs to at worst match the Quest price and offer a much better experience given it is wired to get a look in for the entry level user. It will also struggle at the high end if the psvr 2 foveated rendering does not overcome the performance limitations of PS5 Vs PC for the VR enthusiast. Appealing to a small segment in the centre of small market could be a hard sell when trying to bring on more developers. Unless PS is willing to sink in vast resources into game development to expand the market I see little appeal.
Proper folders would be good but it's not something I lose sleep over, then again,I don't play multiple games concurrently so I can see why bothers others. 1440 I'm happy to see, should help frame rates when needed. For me FPS > Res every day. I wish they would add Dolby Atmos speaker support. Sony's "3D sound" is fine but it doesn't compare to a full Atmos set-up
I can not see this as a remake, it's I remaster. They did not start from scratch and remake the game, they took the existing game and redid lighting, environments and animations, normal remaster stuff. Don't have anything against that but insisting it's a remake comes across as dishonest and feeds into the feeling that it's trying to fleece users. This is only my own view and others will see it differently but it's enough that I won't be buying it. I'll wait a year till it lands in the plus collection.
PS5 has lots of iffy new features I never use but I rather they keep trying to innovate and fail than not try. Points are a sure fire hit. It's always good when I get few free months of gamepass for just playing and I'm sure stars will be too as long as the rewards are worthwhile and regular.
Generally, a lot of companies are looking at their ranges right now and asking where they can increase price, needed it not. When prices are rising across the board it's a good time to build margin with not a lot of blame or kickback. I'd say it's a 50/50 if the do or don't but if they do they will keep on selling in the near future without any let-up. Most folk only look at the price when they want to buy and most will not be surprised to hear the price has gone up in the current market.
Syphon filter was my favourite PSP game, it came out early in the life cycle and amazed me what they managed in a hand held. The GTA games were also great. I feel having the top games all being from 2010 when the PSP was close to dead misses the impact and importance of those earlier games in showing what hand held gaming could be.
Compared to the original this was such a let down. Whoever thought leaving out 60% of the game was a good idea that may not noticed was an idiot. Capcom have been on a roll of late but this was very very disappointing, more so as a fan of the original.
With the exception of RE3 remake Capcom have been on a roll for the last few years. If this is the game they wanted to make then I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Although I'm really not the co-op shooter demographic.
This looks like a buy one year later square game. I'm thinking a year after release they may have fixed gameplay, story ect ect. It's a 100% wait for review at launch. FFXV took a year plus to be a decent game, FFXIX needed burning to the ground.
I really miss E3 so I'm glad at least Keighley is trying to get something the industry can center around. But I don't think we will ever have those 3 crazy days of none stop excitement again. For me E3 was bigger than Xmas
I was talking to my son and his mates a little while back, they play a lot Apex, League and a bit of Overwatch mainly. They refer to players like myself who jump into mainly single player games as casual, only a level above mobile players. From their view point 50 hours it what it takes to get a proper feel of the strengths and best play style for a single character not for a whole game. It's clear that many forms of gaming are available today and most have their strengths. Personally I still can't deal with sports gambling Sims or mobile money pits but as long as I still get get single player experience's, I'm happy gaming is expanding and experimenting
I'm not going to play it if it arrives, don't want to take those rose tinted shades off. Good memories playing DC. It's still sitting on my shelf but I've kept it there for the same reason. Some memories are to good to spoil
We use streaming a lot more than I ever thought we would. Mostly, if we see a game we might fancy on GP we start it up on cloud so we can try it instantly. If we like it, we set it to download while we keep on playing. Next time we want to boot up the game a local copy is ready to start where we left off. It's a great instant try before you download feature.
It's a shame the same will not be possible for PS5 games, but it's not universal on GP either. Some games just don't support cloud play, and I can imagine over time PS will add PS5s to the the cloud offering, Once it can meet retail demand. Sending XSX to the data center is stated as a reason so many more XSS are available at retail. I don't know to what extent this is true but it has had to have had some effect..
This is looking great. As always (or when i have a bit of self control) I'll wait for reviews, but this does have me excited.
I do wish you could more gradually select Duelsense features more. They can trigger spasms in my hands and arms but turning them all off feels lacking. I wish I could have good old rumble back. Mine is clearly an edge case and innovation is good so I guess I'm just a little salty to be missing out on a great feature.
@JON22 PAL TVs could not do 60hz, the main reason for this is most of the world has electricity supply at 50hz US and Japan used lower voltage 120v/60Hz that set the framework for the two standards. You may have thought you where switching to 60 but your TV will have just doing the only thing it could do, 50Hz
You must remember that the resolution was a lot higher on PAL than NTSC. It may well be that for some games there was just to little information in the NTSC version to scale up decently. It's funny that we have been having the resolution Vs frame rates debates for the last few years when it was pretty much universal in the 80s and 90s that frame rate was king. Most games made outside of Japan and US just had one line dropped for every 4 used. It did not matter much on the TVs of the time but can look quite bad now.
I still have working PS1's 2's and full fat PS3's although the only one out is the PS3 as it has backwards compatibility. If you have good humidity and heat control you can keep your hardware running for a long time. I don't have anything specific just the fact our games room is converted from basement keeps it cool and I have central humidity control as the house is 200 years old and needs it to keep maintenance costs down. The only hard part of fixing most PS1 or PS2 faults would be if it was a main chip but even those are plentiful from donor systems. PS3 is more problematic. Truth is though I very very rarely power on the PS3 and when I do it's usually to pull out a old game to compare to a remake.
I'm thinking this game is going to be very price sensitive from the very little shown. It looks very nice and relaxing but all the adjusting the rigging and dropping anchor look great once or twice but after the 10th time....? At the moment this looks like the kind of game Sony should add the the new subscription service. They may not be able to add their own games day one but surely these kind of games are in scope?
I'm not big on live service but I miss watching the Fortnite events with my youngest now he has moved on. A lot of folks love these games, folks that put 100's or 1000's of hours into a single game. Those same players see people like myself who play single player games as casual gamers, just as a lot of folks here talk about players of live services. As long as everyone is getting good games, all is good.

Re: PS2's Best-Selling Console Crown in Jeopardy As Nintendo Switch Passes PS4
I know the switch has multi home sales advantage but the PS2 sold loads for only dvd use. I bought 2 for my parents as it was the cheapest way to migrate them from VHS. I'd say it's a 50/50 if the do or don't but if they do they will keep on selling in the near future without any let-up. Most folk only look at the price when they want to buy and most will not be surprised to hear the price has gone up in the current market.
Re: Best PSP Games
Syphon filter was my favourite PSP game, it came out early in the life cycle and amazed me what they managed in a hand held. The GTA games were also great. I feel having the top games all being from 2010 when the PSP was close to dead misses the impact and importance of those earlier games in showing what hand held gaming could be.
Re: Mini Review: Resident Evil 3 (PS5) - Disappointing Remake Looks and Runs Much Better
Compared to the original this was such a let down. Whoever thought leaving out 60% of the game was a good idea that may not noticed was an idiot. Capcom have been on a roll of late but this was very very disappointing, more so as a fan of the original.
Re: Exoprimal Shows Off Massive Dino-Hordes in New Gameplay Trailer
With the exception of RE3 remake Capcom have been on a roll for the last few years. If this is the game they wanted to make then I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Although I'm really not the co-op shooter demographic.
Re: No, Kojima Productions Isn't Ditching PlayStation in Favour of Xbox
I think this will be something along the lines of Death Strandings shared world but turned up to 10. Very interested to see what he has in mind.
Also, burn him at the stake!
Re: Watch a New Cut-Scene from PS5's Forspoken
This looks like a buy one year later square game. I'm thinking a year after release they may have fixed gameplay, story ect ect. It's a 100% wait for review at launch. FFXV took a year plus to be a decent game, FFXIX needed burning to the ground.
Re: Geoff Keighley Says to 'Manage Your Expectations' for Summer Game Fest
I really miss E3 so I'm glad at least Keighley is trying to get something the industry can center around. But I don't think we will ever have those 3 crazy days of none stop excitement again. For me E3 was bigger than Xmas
Re: Last Year, Free-to-Play Games Accounted for a Quarter of Total PS Store Spend on PS4
@Col_McCafferty I'm with you on that, funny how subsets see the "others" so differently
Re: Last Year, Free-to-Play Games Accounted for a Quarter of Total PS Store Spend on PS4
Re: Rumour: Looks Like PS1 Classic Dino Crisis Is Joining the PS Plus Premium Lineup
I'm not going to play it if it arrives, don't want to take those rose tinted shades off. Good memories playing DC. It's still sitting on my shelf but I've kept it there for the same reason. Some memories are to good to spoil
Re: PS Plus Premium's Cloud Streaming Does Not Support PS5 Games
Re: Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 Makes You Feel Like Harry Potter
This is looking great. As always (or when i have a bit of self control) I'll wait for reviews, but this does have me excited.
I do wish you could more gradually select Duelsense features more. They can trigger spasms in my hands and arms but turning them all off feels lacking. I wish I could have good old rumble back. Mine is clearly an edge case and innovation is good so I guess I'm just a little salty to be missing out on a great feature.
Re: PS1 Games Scrub Up Well on PS5, PS4, But Many Are PAL 50Hz
@JON22 PAL TVs could not do 60hz, the main reason for this is most of the world has electricity supply at 50hz US and Japan used lower voltage 120v/60Hz that set the framework for the two standards. You may have thought you where switching to 60 but your TV will have just doing the only thing it could do, 50Hz
Re: PS1 Games Scrub Up Well on PS5, PS4, But Many Are PAL 50Hz
You must remember that the resolution was a lot higher on PAL than NTSC. It may well be that for some games there was just to little information in the NTSC version to scale up decently. It's funny that we have been having the resolution Vs frame rates debates for the last few years when it was pretty much universal in the 80s and 90s that frame rate was king. Most games made outside of Japan and US just had one line dropped for every 4 used. It did not matter much on the TVs of the time but can look quite bad now.
Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Will Be Playable Offline, But Will Require Weekly Validation
Seems fair and reasonable to me.
Re: Soften the Blow of Tchia's Delay with New Sea-Faring Gameplay
I'm thinking this game is going to be very price sensitive from the very little shown. It looks very nice and relaxing but all the adjusting the rigging and dropping anchor look great once or twice but after the 10th time....? At the moment this looks like the kind of game Sony should add the the new subscription service. They may not be able to add their own games day one but surely these kind of games are in scope?
Re: PlayStation London Studio Seems to Be Making a Fantasy-Based Live Service Game
