Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS Plus Extra or Premium?

TooBarFoo

Not a single game announced that i don't already have or have no interest in playing. At the moment this is not really for long time PS fans as we've bought most of the big games offered. I'm not buying many £70 games so I guess it will be good to get in 24 months when the new games I haven't bought are added

Re: Poll: When Do You Think Final Fantasy 16 Will Release?

TooBarFoo

After the launch state of XIV and XV I have no hype at all for FFXVI. At best I expect I'll play it 12 months after launch when hopefully it will be somewhat closer to a good FF game.

With all the noise about Sony buying Square I'm missing the hype, For me Square "failed to meet my expectations" over and over again in resent years, at least for its larger productions. Now Capcom, that would be news. Capcom has been hitting it out the park over and over again lately.

Re: Sony Dumps Funds into Live Service Software Firm

TooBarFoo

I get that a lot of people only want to see single player games but live service is a big part of the industry and Sony needs to keep pace. Personally, I'm a single.player gamer but after watching my youngest play 2000 hours of Fortnite through lockdown its clear how important these can be. Even without being a player, I looked forward to the Fortnite events at the end of every season. It's a fantastic product. Sony is still making its trademark single player experience's. It's not a one of the other situation, it's just the modern gaming business.

Re: Microsoft Bigwig Implies PS5 Is Losing Marketshare to Xbox

TooBarFoo

I've seen PS5's on the shelves in the UK a couple of months ago. With XB doing so bad last gen it's inevitable that they will regain some market share with this gen. It's not a slight on PS (Although they are not doing enough to compete on value) It's simply a normalization of the market.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus PS5, PS4 Games for May 2022 Leaked Early

TooBarFoo

Football season ends in may so it's a good time for EA to push for a last run on card packs, Even though its in the bargain bin everywhere by now they still seem to sell enough to chart well enough through April. Personally, the best thing about Fortnite is it completely took over on the playground in my local schools so I have not been asked for FIFA packs for the last few years. I'm not going to tempt fate by installing another EA sports game ever again.

Re: Free-to-Play Kart Racer Disney Speedstorm Confirmed for PS5, PS4 This Summer

TooBarFoo

Its a shame its not just a proper game. MK rules cart racers but Sonic racing transformed was a great game, Played 100's of hours of it on a 120 inch projector screen when my kids were little. great bonding, great memories. A great kart racer pushing PS5 graphics would be so good. I don't think a free to play game will be it but I'll give it a try in hope.

Re: Poll: When Do You Think God of War Ragnarok Will Release?

TooBarFoo

Sony doesn't do big November releases do they? If it is coming after summer it will be October latest. Releasing the big first party before holiday season to reinforce their status has worked so well I don't see why they would change that. They will need to give Forsaken some space but I don't think they will overly rely on it to carry them though given Square's recent output.

Re: Dying Light 2 Sells Five Million in First Month, Content Reveal Next Week

TooBarFoo

Wow, Its quite amazing just how big games sales have become. Even 10 years ago very few people would have thought anything but the very top franchise could ever achieve these kinds of volumes. Yes, games cost more to make these days but the player base is so much bigger. Already the largest media industry, gaming seems to still have the legs to grow further.

Re: Syphon Filter Games Rated, Likely for PS Plus Premium

TooBarFoo

There is a simplistic method of adding trophies to older games skimming the save state file for triggers. So chapter completion, skill unlock, weapon unlock etc. Things already tracked in the original games. It would not allow for the more nuance or abstract trophies. Anything not tracked in the original code base would require a lot of work. The big question is would these simpler trophies satisfy the trophy hunters or would the blowback mean Sony is better off doing nothing.
These are old code sets, Code management systems were very basic back then mostly relying on simple CI/CO version control and a revision control manager (a actual person, not a system) keeping track of everything. I would hate to have to go back into old 90's code and start putting trigger points in and rebuilding. I doubt most of these code sets are complete. The small hacks made to this library or that library to make things work were seldom well documented. The idea that someone would come back to the code in 25 years never really mattered. In most cases it would be massively expensive to add new style trophies to these old games.

Re: Syphon Filter Games Rated, Likely for PS Plus Premium

TooBarFoo

Playing Dark Mirror hand held seemed surreal at the time. The PSP was quite influential in pushing the mobile processor forward. It may well have been the push that gave the world smart phone SoCs earlier than expected. The PSP was a little wonder that pushed the mobile chip industry.

Re: Sony Experimenting with Ads in Free-to-Play PS5, PS4 Games

TooBarFoo

The problem with ads is they are near worthless unless "targeted" and that means collecting and dealing in your data. I'm not a free to play gamer. But if they are going to offer targeted ads they will need to build you profile before you enter the game so data collection for all of us. I'm not sure they can build the kind of valuable profile info that SM/PC/Mobile companies can just off your console activity so I would imagine this will come with a push to mobile. None of this leaves me feeling warm inside. While income and valuations have never been higher for gaming companies this means those same companies will be pushed by investors into ever grubbier practices to justify those sky high valuations.

Re: New Mass Effect 'Now Early in Development', BioWare Confirms

TooBarFoo

ME trilogy was great despite the ending being a let down, Andromeda was ok, but completely bugged at launch and even today off only middling polish. I have little to no excitement for anything EA or Bioware release these days, with the only exception being Respawn. If it arrives and its great then I may find myself interested but until than I look forward more to clipping my toenails more that I do playing a new ME game.

Re: Unfortunately, Ubisoft Isn't Also Abandoning NFTs

TooBarFoo

Always looking for the bigger fool. A friend spent a few thousand on some rubbish, so I took the same images and created NFT's on the polygon block chain for myself for nothing to demonstrate how stupid it was. Needless to say they were not happy with me and started spouting on about how I had devalued their investment. As long as there are fools happy to part with their money, someone will be willing to take it off their hands.

Re: E3 2022 Has Been Completely Cancelled

TooBarFoo

I'll miss E3. At one time is was one of my favourite times of the year. Lat nights to watch the show cases. Talk and excitement around new releases the next day at work, rinse and repeat for 4 days.

The last few years though, everything was leaked and without the surprise and excitement it became rather meaningless.

Re: PS Plus April 2022 PS5, PS4 Games Announced

TooBarFoo

I don't have plus any more but I always liked these AA kind of titles as I already had most of the biggest hitters. I thought plus was at its best when it was giving exposure to games that went under the radar. I think everything is going to get compared to GP going forward and PS is going to fall short but for those without a Xbox Plus remains great value.

I think PS+ may suffer the same fate as GWG going forward, If PS is looking to add value to the extra tiers of PS+ the base line games may drop in quality. This is not a given but it would push folks into the higher tier and give PS a better ROI

Re: New Witcher Game Announced, Developed on Unreal Engine 5

TooBarFoo

@ShogunRok the wiki about school if the cat is quite interesting, not neutral but spies, assassin's and swords for hire according to the fandom wiki. A lot of other stuff from the books that give them a lot of slope for games.

Edit: School of the lynx is also a good call, a co-op between Lambert/Keira Metz and the survivors of School of the cat to recover the mutations and begin raising new witchers, The western continent was then colonized supported by the school of the lynx, new land and new monsters.. This would be the perfect setting for new games as it opens up a new world from the current trilogy while still being able to reverence them. Good call @Athrum

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring?

TooBarFoo

@JJ2 I'm playing ER on PC and while it had stutters in the beginning it's not a big deal now. I understand it was due to shader compilation first time assets loaded, so mostly in the opening minutes of the game. The standard for PC gaming is so much higher than for console, the fact it's capped at 60fps being the end of times for many PC gamers where we see 60fps as the performance option on console really highlights this. So it's far from perfect on PC but still better image quality than console and as almost every PC monitor has supported freesync for the last 5 years it' plays great.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring?

TooBarFoo

I booted up Bloodbourne on my old PS4 days before Elden ring released. It has been top of my games list since it released but it was hard going back to it. Its a lot harder to live with the 20fps and low res image than it use to be. If I was only wearing my rose glasses I would of held out for Bloodbourne but after looking at it again Elden Ring has it hands down for me. Will always love Bloodbourne though. Sony should pay for a PS5 4K 60fps Patch. Problem is just how low res are the assets. Regardless of Bloodbourne, Elden Ring is superb.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Update 1.06 Available Now, Here Are the Patch Notes

TooBarFoo

I bounce off this quite quickly as I had really bad pop-in, some of the worst I've ever seen. So I gave it a bit more time in the oven. I'll come back when/if I've finished Elden Ring. That of cause could also do with more time, I'm playing on PC and this time I don't have the stutter as bad as others lucky. I seem to remember that BotW pulled me of the first game for a couple of months before I came back and finished it. I'm going to go back to waiting 3 months to buy games, better product of a lot less money.

Re: Elden Ring Ray Tracing Will Give Graphics a Shine in Future Updates

TooBarFoo

@Voltan @themightyant I'm playing on my PC 3800/Ryzen 5950 and laptop 2080S/Intel 10875 and I get less stutters on the laptop. The issue on PC is not framerate as such, its stutters. They are repeatable but are not widespread. In a quite area with nothing going on it will stutter curtain spots, If you walk over the same patch again, even just looking down it will do it again and again. Its more like how they have stitched the map together and these are transition boundaries. Most the time it's perfectly fine. But if you happen to be fighting a boss or one of the Boss like creatures and stray into these areas the stutter can be the difference between winning or dying. It's not hardware resource related though, I've loads of head room on the PC rarely stretching the GPU so should be space for RT after they fixed the stuttering.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for March 2022?

TooBarFoo

Ghostrunner would seem to the standout. I think this is where PS+ can shine best. Bringing games that reviewed well but did not have the marketing budget to reach the more casual player.
@Elodin Yep, I think Elden Ring has me covered right through till summer. It's such a big game. Normally I like my games over and done in 20/30 hours but with nothing but skill stopping you running right through I can can blame my long play time on my low skill rating. Best game I have played in years!

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Elden Ring?

TooBarFoo

16 Hours in (On PC) a few stutters here and there but other than that my play so far has been great. I think I'll be playing this for the next 3 months. I can't understand those saying its empty, Its packed full every where you look. If you want the old Souls formula just follow the main path and grind out the bosses until you have the patterns down. I fell of HZD to play BOTW and same has happened again. I don't think I'll finish HFW till summer is over. For me this is good enough to win GOTY any year. I think its only GTA5 and BOTW that have been this good.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5) - Dark Future RPG Is Finally Ready to Rock

TooBarFoo

I bought and played on PC seeing the console ports where so bad but even then is was rough. At one point I was walking along and every ncp was the same fat guy in different cloths, 25 versions of the same model everywhere you looked. I finished the game but skipped all the side content after fat man road and was glad to see the back of it. I may play again one day but not until all DLC content is out and then only if it reviews really well.

Re: Elden Ring (PS5) - Likely Another FromSoftware Great

TooBarFoo

I've bounced off HFW already till they fix the pop-in, It's been terribly off putting for me. I'm hopping Elden Ring is not the same. at least this is a £40 game and not a £70 one. From reading/watching different reviews it seems that giving the player choice off when to tackle a curtain boss makes the game more accessible as the open world allows you to level up to the point bosses can go down a lot quicker. Also seems the summoning offers AI companions to aid players. I'm thinking I may get this on PC if performance issues on console are as bad after latest patch.

Re: Free PS5, PS4 No Man's Sky Sentinel Update Transforms Combat

TooBarFoo

I've put so many hours into the game. In the real world I'm suck in a wheelchair, I play NMS in VR exclusively and get roam around distant worlds. It's one of the reasons I have a powerful PC at home (the other is work, that pays for it) I've bought this game about 10 times. Every now and then I buy another steam key. Don't use it but I see it as giving a tip to the Devs.

The game is often in the steam charts and they have a fairly low head count given the size of the game. Sure they made many millions on release but the game still sells and seems to chart again every update.

@invictus4000 It can look great in VR but even with a ryzen 5950/RTX 3090 combo on a Valve index headset, it is a bit of a drop in detail from what I can get on desktop. VR is worth it though.

Re: Maybe Don't Look at Horizon Forbidden West's PS5, PS4 Trophy List

TooBarFoo

I turned off trophy notification and have never bothered with them again. I know to a lot of players they are really important but for me they got in the way if the game. I found myself playing things I was not having fun with chasing a trophy. I think HZD was the last time I looked at what trophies I was missing.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077's PS5 Version Actually Feels Like a Finished Game

TooBarFoo

@Gloamin Yep, I don't think this gen is powerful enough to do much with ray tracing. Games already look great and this gen should make 60fps the norm but ray tracing is still one step to far. With console gamers valuing 4K so highly and AMD lagging so far behind Nvidia on DLSS/RT I think GA and shadows will be all we get most of the time with reflection only really happening in a limited way.

We will see what Sony first party is able to do with RT. If they crack it early in the generation it may push third parties to push harder.

Re: PS5 Owners Ponder What Sony Is Playing At with VRR

TooBarFoo

@ChrisDeku Yep, if a game has a smooth 60fps it does nothing but if not frame pacing makes the world of difference. Pacing is more important than frame rate under 100fps. Its why you are better off capping many games at 30fps than at a unstable 60fps. I'm sure Sony first party games will perform great at 60fps but most 3rd party games don't have the same polish and for a lot of this generation we will still be choosing between a stable 30 or a unstable 60, unless you have framerate sync. This is not new or experimental where the advantage is unknown. Even budget gaming monitors have had freesync for years and its ability to give smooth gameplay has long been established. Questioning its value at this point just seems overtly defensive.

Re: PS5 Owners Ponder What Sony Is Playing At with VRR

TooBarFoo

I get that it's not something that all users can use but almost all new TV's support VVR and it is transformative once you have it. The lack of VVR and Atmos support means all my 3rd party games will be bought on Xbox this generation. Having VVR is a big a deal as having 60fps once you become use to it. Its been a must have on PC for the last 8 years or more.
