If this was a PlayStation 1st party remake there'd be negativity from all angles that its getting a remake. If the Horizon Zero Dawn remake turns out to be true there will be uproar. Keep in mind original Ark is only 2 years older than HZD from the same gen
Fingers crossed for vol 2 content. Installing vol 1 from disc as I type. A bit weird how it works installing as it's not the usual norm but I'll get used to it. No more getting the PS1, PS2 or PS3 out to play any of the MGS classics anymore which is nice. You'd have to imagine this vol 1 and future vol 2 collection will be playable on PS6 too through backwards compatibilty, future proofing these classics even more. Also MGS1 now with trophies is a W in my book
Wish the original classic 90s Resident Evil trilogy did something similar
Honestly I'm just really happy to have a really good selection of MGS games all in one place available on the latest console. If vol 2 can include MGS4 remastered a bit, Peace Walker, Metal Gear Rising, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain and maybe Portable Ops as well I'll be really pleased. MGS Snake Eater remake🐍in the works too
@Art_Vandelay yh agreed that sharper disc drive bulge does look wrong and out of place with the rest of its design. I suppose the sharp disc drive bulge is to do with saving a little more weight maybe. It's possible it might grow on some when they get the new slim in hands and set it up or it could look even worse?
My PS1 memory card save for the PS1 original already has the platinum, theoretically of course. Love this game. This MGS1 and RE2 original are always fighting in my head for my own personal fav PS1 game of all time
@Mikey856 the current fat PS5 won't be available for purchase soon, they're not making the current PS5 anymore, only selling what's currently left. Eventually the only new PS5 option will be this new slim. If fat PS5 broke right now I'd jump on my PS4 and wait for the new slim PS5 to become available
Not surprised at all. I mean why would the many almost 50 mil PS5 owners want the PS5 slim when they're more than happy with the current PS5, especially those that have just purchased the original PS5 this year. Its just a refresh, so it makes sense for many PS5 owners to say only if my current PS5 breaks. If you ain't got one yet then the slim will benefit those or you just want the PS5 slim as a back up to your current original PS5. Rumoured Pro obviously a different story. Don't remember any fat PS4 owners saying oh I really need to sell my perfectly working fat PS4 now for the new PS4 slim model
@Powerplay94 yh the PS5 is to big. I have really wide open shelf under my TV with lots of breathing space all round for it sat horizontally so got a bit lucky. Be interesting to see legit side by side unboxing of this new slim next to the original PS5. The Series X/S doesn't look terrible by any means, just far to safe of a design and far less interesting in a way. The Series X does look nicer with that wrap around Starfield shell thing, I forget what it's called
You'll read all the time some saying the PS5 is ugly. Out of all the 3 current consoles on the market, the PS5 is the most interesting, futuristic looking, almost like a rocket that wants to go to the moon. I dunno maybe im just talking nonsense on side paths my brain usually goes on. Basically whether you like the look of the PS5 or not, its the one that looks more intriguing and unique and that alone spikes interest in weird ways along with this so called brand momentum. DualSense being another reason, its just so good. The Switch has done super well for itself for its unique and different hybrid ways to play. Series X/S while not ugly just plain bland oblong or flat oblong
Typically new game+ adds 2 or 3 more trophies on PS 1st party games. Would be better if they could add 5 or 6 more trophies unique to new game+ instead of 2
@naruball not so sure its as popular as it was in the PS1, PS2 and PS3 days but there's still a big community of fans for it kicking about. 2017s GT Sport put a lot of long time GT fans off, myself included, but still got it after release and enjoyed the many online races. I think GT8 needs a much deeper chunkier back to basics career mode for it to reach the PS2 heights again?
@Titntin I actually like the fact its fully playable from start to finish without a patch, but that also triggered me in a weird nostalgic way hence my first comment here, which I could have worded better as to not look like I'm attacking Insomniac
Spidey2 is gonna be fully updated on my end and will be checking out all the modes including its 120hz 40fps, VRR and all that too. There's a lot of modes on release from what I've seen on Digital Foundry so far. Genuinely can't wait for it, been excited for it all year
@Titntin it's not Imsomniac themselves that triggered me, was the complete game fully playable on disc that triggered me, made me go back in time a little how it used to be, could have been any other developer doing this and I would have come up with the exact same comment. For the record I've almost purchased every new Insomniac game since around Resistance 2 some 15 years ago and also really enjoyed The City That Never Sleeps expansions getting all its trophies. Thoroughly enjoyed Spidey1 and Miles Morales plats. 2016 reboot of R&C such a fun plat and of course Rift Apart too. My first comment here wasn't attacking Insomniac at all, was attacking the video game industry in general, although I can also see why it looks like I'm attacking Insomniac
The second sentence of this article is related to what I've been commenting
Marvels Spider-man 2 pre ordered physically months ago which is something I don't do often with pre orders but this is Insomniac so I trust
@naruball the entire Gran Turismo series is almost nearing 100 mil total. Not something like GTA series numbers but still very impressive for one console and not bad at all for racing games that dont usually always do huge numbers. GT definitely has its fans and you'll always easily get into any GT online race many years after its released
@naruball naturally being a hypocrite here because really enjoy a lot of modern games. Don't mind being a hypocrite on this occasion though, cause it would mean completely stop playing new games around mid to late 00s when patches and dlc became a thing, could never have imagined myself ever doing that and missing out on so many good games
@PegasusActual93 many still charging us extra for story expansions though, of which some of those expansion ideas would have been blended into the main campaign back in the day on day one or be used for the follow up sequel sometimes. On occasions to get the full experience of a game today you have to spend almost £100 and sometimes a little more, £60 or £70 on day one and then sometimes a further £20 to £50 for all the eventual smaller expansions or just be charged extra on day one with the season pass gold edition whatever they're called. Of course no one is forcing the player to get those expansions but if the player is really enjoying a particular game then he or she will most likely get those expansions
@PegasusActual93 games appear to be far more complex today I know. It was the fact that the complete game was fully on this disc that triggered my first comment, it reminded me of a time when games literally had to be as bug free as possible on release day because there was literally no second chances
@Titntin it's sort of related in a way because the patch Insomniac are putting out would have been impossible less than 20 years ago. Obviously the same goes for every modern game these days not just Insomniac specifically. Absolutely adore Insomniac
Had fun with Fall Guys when launched on PS Plus and so many fun online races in GT Sport and GT7. Absolutely adore getting trophies and plats too. None of this would have been possible without the internet so I don't hate gaming online all the time
41 just getting older and sometimes moody these days
Weird how all games these days rely on patches to work properly and dlc expansions. The days of getting a 100% complete game on disc or cartridge with all features and bonus content included day one feels like a lifetime ago. Consoles being online means they can now charge you more money for the extra weapons and skins or story expansions which used to be all included on disc day one about 17 years ago. Take RE4 remake expansion Separate Ways now costing more money to play as an example. If the PS2 version had Internet updates and could add expansions there's no way Separate Ways would have been free on the PS2. Different times I suppose so it made more sense back then but today you pay £60 or £70 and you still ain't getting close to 100% of the game you've just purchased
Won't be getting one but it's nice there's a slim refresh out there just incase and it offers a solution to the digital version being completely locked out of physical. If they end up doing this rumoured Pro, you'd have to imagine this current new PS5 slim be reduced in price, on or around the release of the Pro?
Sounds like a super fun platinum to me. Nearly all platinums get a little repetitive towards the end so no biggie. 7 is a good score as its well above average so to get an 8 means it's really good. Remember the best judge is always yourself
Nabbed Gaurdians vol 3 today on physical 4K to go with 1 and vol 2 on 4K. 95% of the crap on Disney+ I won't ever watch so no need to ever sub monthly, same with Netflix and the many other pay monthly streaming services. The best quality on physical 4K disc too. Cherry pick favs physically and ignore all these multiple streaming subs, no need
Always struggled with the convenience part when talking about digital vs physical. Sure when buying a game digitally on PS Store or ordered physically from Amazon when very busy at work and busy family life I get that, but the convenience part for getting up off the sofa grabbing a disc out the case from your collection on the shelf and then putting disc into your console to play I do not understand at all on the convenience part, to me that just sounds really lazy if that part of physical bothers you
I hope all Sony gaming bosses at the top have now all got their gloves off. Time to continue their efforts they've done with top tier 1st party exclusives (tone down this gaas a little) and make some good buisness of their own if something they want becomes available and let's not forget affordable. Affordable is unfortunate here as this is where Sony can't compete much. I dunno, a lot of smaller devs like Ember Labs as an example could be very beneficial to Sony in the long run, eventually making some of these smaller devs making some bigger triple A games over time, as well as making some of the slightly smaller games these devs are currently known for
@Kevw2006 I know exactly what you mean. It's bending the truth to suit their favourite console narrative, happens all the time on all sides. Nothing wrong with being a little biased with your favourite though and gamers just wanna play good games at the end of the day, that's all they care about, not much different to myself in that regard
@DarthOreo competition that's so funny. Have you even looked at the huge differences in acquisitions between Microsoft and Sony. I highly recommend have a look at all the games included with Microsofts recent couple acquisitions and then look at all the games included with Sonys recent acquisitions. Anyone calling this as competition is pure ignorance
Pinocchio Phil at it again. If Bethesda and those leaked emails about putting PS out of business are anything to go by, then I can only see his nose getting much longer
Physically still have all the very best of Crash Bandicoot games from Naughtydog on PS1 including the Crash Bash for PS1 and the N Sane trilogy so im all good. Whatever they do with Crash will NEVER match originals. There's nothing else they have I care for and any new IP they do console exclusive I'll have zero attachments to. What is this Call of Duty never heard of it before. Extremely rich company's doing massive acquisitions are never good but I don't so much mind the extremely rich company's that don't make their own consoles to lock out all those many long time 3rd party games, won't potentially be losing so many games when they're not a console maker
Edit impossible to be a boycott when you've rarely ever played Activision games
Kept appearing offline last night, no green dot near avatar and remained that way even after changing it. Checked is PSN down and just turned off PS5. Annoyance but no biggie as it never happens often. Modern gaming though
Waiting for Youtubers like Mystic to test it out properly soon and actually trying it for myself before giving thoughts and opinions on it. Mystic just tested out the printer feature on PS3, it's a why feature I know but it's an interesting vid nonetheless
PS2, PS3 and PS4 never came with a vertical stand either, you had to buy it separately too. The stand with the original PS5 was done in a way where both vertical and horizontal worked with the same stand
Aware times and prices of components are different these days but I remember a time when PS1, PS2 and I think PS3 as well had price drops roughly around this time. Do agree with the first comment about more consumer friendly now with the option of this new PS5 digital model having the option to attach a disc drive, instead of being completely locked out of physical games or physical 4K movies. Never had a problem with how the original PS5 looked but its weight and size obviously an issue, this refresh now seems to fix that quite a bit and from the images shown so far looks a little more attractive too, especially the top half?. More than pleased with current PS5 but nice to have more better options. Be wanting the rumoured Pro more, best get saving all those coins from shopping and s**t
Hey I'll take Gotham Knights all day long, seems a perfect game to try for the first time on Plus or GP. Usually have a decently good tolerance towards scary horror games but my god Alien Isolation broke me, still completed it but only just, sign of a really good well made horror game
Currently The Callisto Protocol from Plus. Not a terrible first impression at all tbh, albeit only 6 hours in barely halfway through first playthrough taking my time trying not to miss collectables. Not really finding it scary, more blood splattering and brutal limbs flying more than anything. Really good atmosphere and sounds too. If decide to platinum is where the repetitive baton combat dodging annoyance might come into play on maximum security difficulty, apparently supposed to be really annoying on that diff?. Overall enjoying Callisto Protocol so far and is scratching that halloween itch atm. Hoping to play some more Boltgun before Spiderman 2 and MGS collection
Well they ain't releasing Factions 2, Part 3 or a brand new IP anytime soon so why not. Adore both Part 1 and 2 so I'm naturally a little biased towards the series. The real question if this ends up true is, with Naughydog saying Part 1 was a remake and put a lot of work into it for justifying the 70 price, well this is a remaster so shouldn't be anywhere near 70 then?. If Naughtydog go the Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy Death Stranding remastered cheap upgrade route if you have the previous PS4 version digitally or physically already, that would be nice
Really hoping it's campaign is super fun and tense and a really fun satisfying platinum. Also hoping for some more expansions similar to the 3 City That Never Sleeps expansions
4 times tried now, everytime automatically signs me out of my PSN. Maybe its getting over loaded with so many trying to get in for the first time I dunno. Try it another time maybe
Just tried using the Sony Pictures Core app for the first time after agreeing to all the policy stuff but it signs me out of PSN automatically and just left with a circle going round and round for ages on the app. Can't get in to use it
Cherry pick my favs on physical 4K but this will be a nice added free benefit for premium subs and possibly to a slightly lesser degree for Essential and Extra at a later date. I'll use the many selected free movies on Premium for like a free rental and if really enjoy that free rental I'll grab the physical 4K for it. Care far more about games on home console but I'll take a free movie every now and then that I ain't seen before, why not
Wondering what their next new game will be, hopefully a full on triple AAA experience this time. Didn't give Returnal a try because I don't like roguelikes at all. The whole idea of roguelikes in general massively triggers my anxiety in a bad way, so naturally avoid. A non roguelike brand new IP would be nice
Some good news about this port for once. Still no rush, I'll get it when I'm ready with massive sales on it. Few years ago backlog was still big but these days it appears to have doubled in size
@Smiffy01 found a good method of buying my must play games digitally or physically every now and then and in between using PS Plus for games like Sniper Elite 5, it's working for me atm. I do get the non sub approach as well, as its far less complicated by just focusing on buying the games you want and never worrying about when they leave Extra. With subs I have played so many games I don't think I'd ever consider trying or I've always been 50/50 on, so if you subbed you can go oh I might as well try it if it tickles my fancy a little, whereas with outright buying a game that you aint so sure about is always risky, not that you need a sub to try out new games but the sub can be a benefit for that very reason
All that matters is Spiderman 2 and MGS collection. Hotwheels Unleashed 2 can wait. Very excited for many games over the next 6 months. Unfortunately money and time doesn't grow on trees. So many games have to be put on hold for chunky sales later on while trying to priorities other new occasional releases. Yearly Premium sub helps a lot though despite already finishing many of the must plays on the service ages ago

Edit impossible to be a boycott when you've rarely ever played Activision games
Re: PSN Suffered an Enormous Outage Over Night
Kept appearing offline last night, no green dot near avatar and remained that way even after changing it. Checked is PSN down and just turned off PS5. Annoyance but no biggie as it never happens often. Modern gaming though
Re: PS Plus Premium Adds PS5 Cloud Streaming As a Perk This Month
Waiting for Youtubers like Mystic to test it out properly soon and actually trying it for myself before giving thoughts and opinions on it. Mystic just tested out the printer feature on PS3, it's a why feature I know but it's an interesting vid nonetheless
Re: PS5 Slim Doesn't Come with a Vertical Stand, Needs to Be Bought Separately
PS2, PS3 and PS4 never came with a vertical stand either, you had to buy it separately too. The stand with the original PS5 was done in a way where both vertical and horizontal worked with the same stand
Re: PS5 Slim Officially Unveiled, Attachable Disc Drive, Launches November
Re: 8 PS Plus Extra Games for October Leaked Early
Hey I'll take Gotham Knights all day long, seems a perfect game to try for the first time on Plus or GP. Usually have a decently good tolerance towards scary horror games but my god Alien Isolation broke me, still completed it but only just, sign of a really good well made horror game
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 497
Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Remaster Seems to Be Real
Re: Poll: How's Your Hype for Marvel's Spider-Man 2?
Lol Mr know it all experts already, despite the game not being released yet
Re: Poll: How's Your Hype for Marvel's Spider-Man 2?
Really hoping it's campaign is super fun and tense and a really fun satisfying platinum. Also hoping for some more expansions similar to the 3 City That Never Sleeps expansions
Re: Sony Pictures Core Movie App Launches Today on PS5, PS4 with Exclusive Benefits
4 times tried now, everytime automatically signs me out of my PSN. Maybe its getting over loaded with so many trying to get in for the first time I dunno. Try it another time maybe
Re: Sony Pictures Core Movie App Launches Today on PS5, PS4 with Exclusive Benefits
Just tried using the Sony Pictures Core app for the first time after agreeing to all the policy stuff but it signs me out of PSN automatically and just left with a circle going round and round for ages on the app. Can't get in to use it
Re: Sony Pictures Core Movie App Launches Today on PS5, PS4 with Exclusive Benefits
Care far more about games on home console but I'll take a free movie every now and then that I ain't seen before, why not
Re: Housemarque to Establish 'the Nordics' Most Advanced Gaming Headquarters' in 2024
Wondering what their next new game will be, hopefully a full on triple AAA experience this time. Didn't give Returnal a try because I don't like roguelikes at all. The whole idea of roguelikes in general massively triggers my anxiety in a bad way, so naturally avoid. A non roguelike brand new IP would be nice
Re: Red Dead Redemption Remaster Update 1.03 Adds 60FPS Option
Some good news about this port for once. Still no rush, I'll get it when I'm ready with massive sales on it. Few years ago backlog was still big but these days it appears to have doubled in size
Re: Upcoming PS5, PS4 Games for October and November 2023
Re: Upcoming PS5, PS4 Games for October and November 2023
All that matters is Spiderman 2 and MGS collection. Hotwheels Unleashed 2 can wait. Very excited for many games over the next 6 months. Unfortunately money and time doesn't grow on trees. So many games have to be put on hold for chunky sales later on while trying to priorities other new occasional releases. Yearly Premium sub helps a lot though despite already finishing many of the must plays on the service ages ago
