Re: Rumour: The Last of Us 3 Is In Development at Naughty Dog

@Mythologue When the Spider-Man 2 release date was confirmed yesterday, people loved it. It's the third Spider-Man game in 5 years time. And I'd argue that gameplay-wise TLOU2 innovates more than Spider-Man has so far. They haven't been working on TLOU for decades. It's just two games at this point. And a very good selling ''franchise'' so far. I wonder if it's even their choice to develop a third one, or if Sony is nudging them to.

Also, Sony funded Bloodborne, it's their IP. If From Software wanted to make a sequel, Sony had to give them the green light. It isn't their decision to make.

I understand your point though. I do think TLOU was perfect on its own. But I also liked the sequel just as much in the end. But it's good to keep in mind that it's not always the devs making these decisions. And nobody is asking other developers to stop making Pokemon games, or another Dark Souls. Whether a game is better on its own is all subjective in the end. Some may want endless sequels, and others may prefer a new game from a developer. But once again, this is subjective, there's is no right answer.

@carlos82 Well said, I liked the ambiguity, but that was also very much part of the first game. The second one was a great continuation of that. It did some things differently, especially with how the game was set up, with two story lines, but I think sequels should be free to experiment with those kind of things. So I'm all for Part 3 trying some other story telling angle.

I just find it so incredibly funny how people can be against a specific character. Like, even saying they won't buy the game is she is in, LMAO. It's just a video game character. You don't have to like them all, and that's fine. It's meant to get you thinking. How many people cancelled Game of Thrones when they killed off Sean Bean at the end of season 1? No one I think. It's the same thing here. From a story and gameplay perspective it just makes a ton of sense to do what they did in Part 2. It was IMO the best reason to go on a ''revenge'' journey.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West DLC Takes Aloy to the Burning Shores Only on PS5

@Kienda Whilst I agree that the timing of the shift to PS5-only titles is bad. It should've been with a new game, not DLC to a cross-gen title. It is important to understand that you didn't ''fund'' this DLC by buying Forbidden West. It should be the other way around. You funded Forbidden West by buying the game. The funding for the DLC will come from the sales of said DLC.

Re: Days Gone Director Blames Woke Reviewers, Programmers for Critical Reception

People can dislike a game for all kinds of reasons. If the reason is that the main character is a white male, so be it. It's an incredibly stupid reason lol, but I'm not telling them to change their opinion.

The game also had its technical issues at launch. And it took me two tries to get into, so there's that. I did end up liking the game a lot though. And many people did. So yes, he should definitely try to focus more on the positives than the negatives.

And he seems such a nice guy in interviews, but on Twitter... Why are people still even using Twitter?

Re: God of War Ragnarok's PS5, PS4 Squeeze Gaps Spark Insight into Hidden Loading Screens

Octane

Many times it's a two-way squeeze, so you aren't forcing the player into a new area at all. They are loading screens in disguise.

Also, for Tomb Raider, those were definitely loading screens. If you transition between areas too fast, the game even freezes because it's trying to load the new area.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just don't see why we need to lie about it.

Re: The Last of Us: Part I (PS5) - A Better, More Beautiful Remake of a Modern Classic

For a full priced game I expect maybe a little more. It's a full game, yes. But they didn't have to create a story, design the levels, etc. Much of that is the same. I would've liked it they added all the gameplay upgrades from 2, along with expanded levels. More rooms/buildings to explore, just to give the game a bigger scope and so that it doesn't feel like an upgraded PS3 game. I think that for full price that's definitely fair to ask of them. I'll probably get it one day, but I will wait for a price drop

Re: PS5 Price Increase Has Some Japanese Players Praying for PC Port of Final Fantasy 16

Octane

@thefourfoldroot1 So here's a question then, by not increasing the price, and eating up the additional costs, they will be able to better compete with MS, and do better in the long term.

Also, Sony made $11+ billion in net profit in 2021. If they lost $50 on each PS5 system sold, that would be enough for 220 million consoles, more than they're ever going to sell in a year (which is like max 20 million). It's not like they can't afford this at all. They won't be running a deficit by selling at a loss.

@AdamNovice It's also that Microsoft and Nintendo haven't raised the price of their consoles. They're all made of similar materials, and production is largely comparable, so why is it that they don't see the need to increase the price?

It's just one of many missteps from Sony lately. Especially since MS is offering incredibly value with GamePass (even though I'm personally not a fan of the subscription models). Sony has lost a bunch of third party support in recent years due to the MS buyout. It's not looking amazing for them in the long run.

@nessisonett Naw, the only thing I'm worried about is her playing a 14-year old, when she's clearly a couple of years older. But maybe they rewrite her age for the show so it makes a little more sense.

I want to see real ugly characters, give me a Bloater.

Re: Mini Review: Frogun (PS5) - PS1 Era Platformer Doesn't Have Much Bounce

@huyi Visually it looks alright, clearly a homage to the classic PS1 titles. It tries to emulate the Megaman Legends visuals, but in a higher resolution.

Though I will say, the intro cutscene consists of several drawn images, and the quality of those is laughable. Even if you're making an indie game, at least get a proper artist to do your artwork. It's not THAT expensive.

Re: Mini Review: Frogun (PS5) - PS1 Era Platformer Doesn't Have Much Bounce

Octane

@huyi Yeah, the game is quite frustrating actually, especially since the platforming physics aren't that great to begin with.

The levels also have additional challenges, like beating it without taking damage, getting all the coins, getting other collectibles, beating it within a certain amount of time, etc. But you have to do those all at once! You can't first rush the level to get the time reward and then come back to collect everything, because then your time reward will be undone, or vice versa. It's backwards game design 101.

I have no problem with 90s inspired games, but they really should've implemented some QOL features.

At least it was only a tenner, but I still feel robbed lol.

Re: Mini Review: Frogun (PS5) - PS1 Era Platformer Doesn't Have Much Bounce

Played it and I agree. It just isn't fun. Completing the first level is already pretty much impossible, and beating a level in general isn't fun either. Platforming physics don't feel right and the game isn't generous at all. Miss a platform > reset the whole level, and that includes all collectibles and enemies. I'd say a 5 is generous.
