Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

Omnistalgic

Little disappointed PushSquare, which has to have SOME industry insight, is fanning the “let's hate this fan” against a perfectly fine State of Play. We know how hard and difficult development is, we know ND canceled a big game, we know how unreasonable most fans online are, and we know if whatever Sony’s WWS shows does not look as good as GTA6/DS2, it’s gonna get ridiculed.

The games we fell in love with all just had sequels in 2021-2022.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Omnistalgic

@KundaliniRising333 dude all of your favorite studios are working hard trying to wow you again lol. Sony hasn’t forgotten anything they are very much aware how GoT TLOU Horizon GoW and Uncharted sold. It takes longer to make games like that, especially ones that look as good as Death Stranding. That’s also part of the distinction of State of Play and showcase. The big AAA are not ready and announcing something a day before it begins should set some expectations that ND and SSM and Imsomiac aren’t going to be there at the same time.

Re: Neil Druckmann Claims Comments of Next Naughty Dog Game 'Redefining' the Mainstream View of Gaming Was a Sony Misquote

Omnistalgic

@PuppetMaster part 2’s entire plot begins with a main character, that was part of why you loved the series, being gone and you finding the folks who did it. There’s way more nuance than that, and yes more themes and layers. Hell Joel is still the main character of part 2. But it’s still a much different experiment for the player than going on an adventure with 2 characters in part 1.

I agree with social media and folks in general just ready to hate, but I’m pretty into gaming and love different experiences, I don’t like part 2 the way I like the first. It just evokes a different feeling and I never like anyone on Abby’s side nearly as much. Hopefully the HBO show changes that.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

Omnistalgic

I think the vocal minority on social media does not represent the majority of the user base. That does not mean anyone’s voice is less important, it’s just the folks that only play FIFA and GTA probably aren’t being heard.

Big stuff that wow us takes longer to make, yesterday’s show was very good with Astro and MHW looking amazing to me. I think folks just want something new and exciting, and since Concord reminded them of other shooters it wasn’t enough new and exciting things. I believe this entire lineup was leaked on Era and Reddit…

Gameplay is king, if Sony makes good games, they will be just fine. Nobody batted an eye at Helldivers 2 either. I gauge the conferences on a hype scale and things that I actually want to play as something separate. We need GG, ND, GT7, Bend, SSM to show us PS5 only stuff to for the hype, they aren’t ready, so yeah, it’s kinda low key excitement. All there is to it.

Re: Arrowhead Recruiting Devs to 'Accelerate and Beef Up' Helldivers 2 Content Plans

Omnistalgic

Had a lot of connection issues but still can’t wait to get home and play. It’s super fun, and I can already see tons of collab with other brands. As long as it has cool endgame content like early Destiny that require good teamwork, and some nice new areas (it would be cool if the maps open up and you go dungeon crawling) I can’t see this one going away. Looking forward to the roadmap and no connection issues. GOTY so far.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About All of the Xbox Multiplatform Rumours?

Omnistalgic

Honestly the only thing I would currently play is Hi-fi rush. I’m excited about ES coming back to PlayStation again and would be happy to wait a year for Xbox big games. I feel like Nintendo is already the “Apple” of gaming and PS and MS are just fighting over who’s the best home for 3rd party. Sony has risen its first party output, but the most popular things on PlayStation are still largely from other companies. It would be nice to have a box that plays just about everything besides Nintendo stuff.

Re: Microsoft Has Apparently Been Stocking Up on PS5 Devkits as Xbox Pivots

Omnistalgic

@TrickyDicky99 I’m assuming you’re talking about games that look like Death Stranding 2? Souls remake is not just a coat of paint, that requires a lot of work for it to look that good. Games already take forever to make, if you want to be blown away graphically, AI, design and physics it’s going to take forever, which is what a lot of Sony’s AAA are doing.

Nintendo’s games are an entire gen behind graphically, but they are amazing. I think this need to have technical achievements every gen is really hurting the industry. Horizon FW is a PS4 game and it looks great! I just want to see better game design and improved AI.

Re: Nick Offerman Wants to Make a Bill and Frank The Last of Us HBO Spin-Off

Omnistalgic

@Victor_Meldrew I think a series would focus on who they were before they met. I think that's interesting for quite a few characters. Kinda like in One Piece anime, as the MC gains friends, there's' usually an episode dedicated to their backstory. I think that's a cool concept for a mini-series.

Episode 1 - Joel's backstory and firefly days
Episode 2 - Tess backstory
Episode 3 - Bill's backstory

etc...

Re: Reaction: PS5's Success Is Not Luck, Because Sony's Spent Years Putting in the Hard Yards

Omnistalgic

I think the PS4 success is obviously real, that was a terrible gen to lose market share as digital libraries matter much more today. Still, PS5 is not having good luck. Covid was a ton of "bad luck" and they still managed to release a system and several highly rated exclusives. I think folks are confusing personal preference with "Sony is lacking because my taste isn't satisfied".

My backlog is higher than PS4, and I'm just waiting for the big game from ND/Sucker Punch honestly, to me, it's about the same as PS4 without a few of the must-play SP games like Bloodborne and Uncharted 4, but they are cooking, dev time has gone up, and I have plenty of experiences like Star Rail, RPG's, and amazing AAA this year.

Someone said Nintendo is best prepared for the future, and I do agree there, but next up is Sony. I think they have great IP, and just need a few more gameplay first studios like Housemarque and studio Japan and they will have some evergreen success (outside of Spidery/GT) like Nintendo does.

If they want to move a little like MS and not have all the IP go to one place, I think SE/Capcom are safe bets for partnering with Sony, especially SE. 10 years is a long-time, but COD and Blizzard stuff are important IP, as well as ES. MS are carving out a place for themselves, but the issue is, a ton of those sales are on Playstation as well like Minecraft and COD. I have no idea how it's going to shake out, but I'm definitely happy with Playstation and most would agree since it super popular.

Re: Reaction: Solid Xbox Showcase Should Give Sony Some Incentive to Stop Being So Damn Cloak and Daggers About PS5, PS4

Omnistalgic

@dschons Yeah, I'm not a fan of Bethesda games precisely because the actual combat is extremely boring/dull to me. Starfield looking like it plays like an acutal good shooter where you can customize everything is a breath of fresh air from looking at the stiff Skyrim combat. I know it was special back then, but coming to those games years later, I just couldn't get into them. I might get an Xbox just for Starfield, it looks that good, if the story is great, man...we're in for an amazing 2023.
Speaking of, I still have to play Witcher 3, missed out on that classic too.

Spider-man 2
FF16
SF6 (has me addicted already)
Zelda

This year is great! Don't let Helldivers 2 be just as good as Returnal! My wallet!

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

Omnistalgic

@get2sammyb Been saying this for the past few years now, Netflix of gaming is not actually that desirable. It's not how I consume the medium, and the majority of the user base represents me, as I've grown less and less of an enthusiast as family/life eat up much more of my free time than my teenage years when I could easily beat 10-15 titles a year.

To me, Gamepass is just MS trying to use their enormous funds to see if something sticks. If it fails, it is literally a drop in the bucket for a company of that size. If you study the market, it never made much sense as a disruptor.

I think the next innovation in gaming will be development. The time to get ideas into playable entertainment is too long. If I could play GOW:R on my Ipad without any lag and a Dualsense, that might be disruptive. Games as big as TLOU2 getting done in 2 years because of advanced tools and AI, that's disruptive. A catalog of games on a sub? Nah...

Re: A Future Dominated By Service Games Would Be 'Boring', Says PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida

Omnistalgic

@KundaliniRising333 Returnal was only on PS5, Demon's Souls was only on PS5, Ratchet was only on PS5. Horizon expansion is only on PS5.

I honestly hate seeing comments like these. PR is just mouthpieces, but it's an argument in bad faith to call Sony's PR out when they actually DID deliver on their statements. Horizon/GT/GoWR/GT7 were ALL PS4-designed games. Yet the community would have them released only on PS5 after delays and Covid-19 hit, just so the "cut-off" statement would ring more true or something.

Millions got to play those games on PS4 while PS5 was essentially impossible to get. And its the same for GAAS. Sony wants some that Fortnite money, they aren't transitioning to only make MP games. In fact, one successful GAAS would help Sony's SP titles with ballooning development costs.

Re: The Last of Us HBO Exec Touches on Joel's Fate in Season 2

Omnistalgic

I have a lot to say about this but I'll try to be concise.

I think the emotional impact of TLOU is so powerful because you spend a LOT of time as Joel in the first game. He's essentially the main character until, he's not.

There's so many momements of bonding with Joel and Ellie that you control as the player, his death is something most don't want, even if they understand Joel is a bad dude. It's a bad dude you have ownership over.

For the show, I think showing more of who Joel was, him smuggling coffee and goods, settling down and becoming the normal Joel you see at the start of the show pre-outbreak is important. To me, that's why I love Joel. He's a character that has been in both worlds, and throughout the journey you can see why he's messed up. All of it isn't his fault, and to some degree he's a product of surviving this long.

The show needs to establish that and make up for the fact you don't spend as much time with these characters on the stick.

Long story short, golf club scene should just be 2-4 episodes in, and establish Joel under better circumstances, is actually not a bad dude, but continue with how love turns into hatred theme and his demise nonetheless.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Really Is Targeting 2024 Release Date

Omnistalgic

@theMEGAniggle if you account for Covid and the fact that it's just the start of the 3rd year, (we aren't 3 years in) I don't see it any different from any other gen, especially not PS4 when game development time went up dramatically.

PS4 got the games it's most popular for 3+ years in as well. Horizon, GOW, Uncharted 4, etc...none of those came in the first 2 years.

There just needs to be a breakthrough in development, or publishers need to streamline through better pipelines and outsource studios.

Re: Feature: ICO At 21 - Remembering Fumito Ueda's Seminal PS2 Classic

Omnistalgic

Just had to come back and comment that I literally had the same experience, and it's why I always list my top 3 games of all time as Ico, MGS, FF7.

I remember feeling such a spiritual connection to saving the game on the couch, that I didn't move for hours. I took a nap, right along with my characters, and for a moment just relished in the peaceful scenery and animations of the characters. Yorda's feet swinging and Ico (or boy) getting a much needed rest from swinging at baddies and solving the intricate castle.

I can see how folks like Neil and Souls game were inspired by it, AI companions and intricate level design are very popular today, the roots began with Ico.

I really hope Bluepoint does a remaster. It being only on PS2/PS3 is criminal.

Re: Opinion: Why 2023 Will Be PS5's Biggest and Best Year Yet

Omnistalgic

@LiamCroft WWS, Playstation, and Sony themselves are all interlinked though? You do know Sony helps fund games that they partner on right? They help with marketing/development/publishing etc...to tons of 3rd party titles and curate Indy's like Sifu and Kena. I don't really get this weird distinction for Playstation that it has to come from WWS to be relevant or something? Playstation's brand started as the "home of 3rd party". Sony essentially got devs to work with them instead of the strict Nintendo pipeline, and it worked. WWS output is great, but it's not the #1 reason to even get a Playstation for likely a majority of the user-base. 2023 looks incredible from a content standpoint, it doesn't matter where the games are developed.
