Yeah this RUMOR has got more bulls*** in it than an overcrowded pen of male bovines.
The Pro came about as technology advanced. If there is a PS5 Pro it will be in later years once a die shrink or two happens, and they can cram more silicon - or more technology into the same amount of space and power consumption.
Sony didn't create the Pro when the PS4 came out. MS didn't create the X (or even the S) when the Xb1X came out. Nintendo didn't create the New 3ds when the 3ds came out. Etc etc.
Technology advances, and mid generational upgrades are MID generational upgrades. They come when technology drops in price enough that you can create a product for around the original price of the original product.
There is a noticeable difference in PSVR visuals. I don't know what everyone else expects to see... I guess they are expecting a resolution increase?
There's no resolution increase.. what they've done is reduced the antialiasing so that there is less blur and greater clarity. I can actually see the readouts on my ship's screens quite clearly now. The reduction in AA has increased the jaggies (because it's the same resolution) and shimmering on edges however.
But yes. The distance is less blurry (but still low res), my ships are clearer, the sky is better looking, the texures look better, my ships interior is sharper. All because the smear is reduced by less aggressive AA... no other reason.
EDIT - if you can't see any changes in blur... perhaps your IPD needs adjusting. I noticed the difference right off the bat. In the ships cockpit, I now noticed switches and details that were previously blurred out. It def feels like an upgrade - just not a giant one.. you're going to need a resolution increase for that (which is what Pro owners are waiting for).
@TadGhostal - "except for Nintendo, everyone has black boxes". I recall the black Gamecube. The Black Wii, the Black Wii U... maybe you mean the SNES, N64 and Switch. Those ones weren't black boxes.
Lots of comments. The PS5 won't look anything like this horrid monstrosity. That slot is a disc slot, so judgung by that scale, it musy be gigantic. Sony keeps their actual console looks a secret until the reveal at E3 or whenever they do it. Like they would patent its design publically a year or so before they show it off to consumers. (rolling eyes)
Played it for about half an hour. The interaction process is really ghetto. All kinds of unneccesary markers and paths on the screen. The place I started in was crowded with NPCs.. some I could get quests from, others required a later level only a few virtual yards away. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason on what I was to do. The graphics were really rough too.. textures popped in on NPCs while those people stood in front of you and the FPS seemed to be in the 20fps zone. Deleted.
lol. It was a more expensive Pro model too.. nothing like being that mental to destroy your expensive console it to show how mad you are about something that doesn't affect your life whatsoever. Genius.. pure genius.
Yep. I'll get it. Loved the game, it was essentially the lost Ghostbusters sequel that was never made with all the talent from the movies.. I don't recall any other videogame that has had such a thing. It's definately a lost gem in time. I got the X360 version over the PS3 version at the time as it was a better running game, but I loaned it out to someone and never got it back. Looking forward to improvements in this one! Def Buy!
"Personally, we can’t really get past the whole animals in pinstripe suits thing, but whatever turns you on." This is the worst thing about gaming journalism.. smarmy comments which just seem like deliberate douchebaggery from a writer who wants to push their own particular tastes on others. And I even like Sammy! Other than that, it was a nice writeup. The industry needs to take risks with things like this and be rewarded for it. Tired or more crap like Fallout 76, Anthem, Another Assassins Creed, Battlefield, remakes, and on and on and on. We need more game that take calculated risks.
I've not been impressed by much in this game so far, but the technology and the thought behind this snow technology is something I've not seen before. It goes from no covering to looking like a christmas card in real time. Pretty amazing work there devs.
@LiamCroft Fair enough Liam, but it is still misleading for accuracy's sake. I thought it would have been good to open with that - as it creates a bit of a narrative that these folks know a thing or two about PSVR, even though this is their first title as their own development group. It's not truly the developer's VR debut if all the development staff has worked on VR for 2 titles (that I know of). I enjoyed both of the titles they had put out under their former employer and I'm downloading this one now.
@Fath Are you bothered by a well done, five hour gamelength for something that is priced at $20? That seems like a good deal to me (esp. based on what else is out there in the VR store). I don't know what you are referring to as 1.5Gb.. it's downloading on my PS4 right now and it's a little over 6Gb.
Liam's opening statement about Outer Loop's first project and etc. is not accurate. Outer Loop is comprised of Uber Entertainment's former team who worked on games like Dino Frontier and Wayward Sky (among other projects under UberEnt). Both of which have a very similar look to Falcon Age.
Its nice to see it's priced right at $20. For 5 hours of play, that's perfect.
The controller has a camera for VR? I dunno about this. Sony had gone all in on sharing on social media with PS4. IF there is a camera on Dualshock 5's it would likely be embedded in the device for video chat purposes, and not for VR tracking. Without 2 cameras to register depth and spacial tracking - the DS5 would be unable to attain 6 degrees of freedom. One poster here said he only has use of one eye so VR is no good for him.. same problem with a single camera. If a tracking camera cannot register depth, it's no use for VR. The PS5's specs from this "insider" were revealed/speculated some time ago. Digital Foundry even did an episode on it. Plus - the guy refers to the PSVR's processor box as a "breaking box" - which isn't even a term. "Breakout box" is a recognized term. ADDITIONALLY - PSV is not a Sony codename. PS4 was Orbis, PS4 Pro was Neo. Unreal Engine pointers are showing a suspected PS5 codename of Erebus. ...PSV is NOT a codename.. I think this guy is full of doodoo - but as reported, he's getting his 15 mins of fame.
@NoxAeturnus Responses like this really puzzle me. VR is an addon to a machine - not a requirement. It's like saying "I'm out on next gen because it has support for steering wheels and I don't like driving games. That's it. I'm out."
Looking forward to this game, but is anyone else cringing with that stupid cartoony, screaming zombie woman once again shows up?? The "hunched over panning yell" animation and the disproportionate jaw and rubber mouth are just so 90's CGI movie. It's so terribad and they just keep showing it over and over... oh the shame.
I like Fallout - although FO4 was disappointing as it devolved the type of missions and interactions from what was offered in variety in FO3 and NV... but I still liked it. This though.. I'm disappointed as the environments and timeline sounds interesting - but with no single player campaign without someone griefing you to get their nuts off - I'm not interested at all. Maybe when it's $20 and Bethesda has modified the game to be a lot better, I'll try it. But for now... meh. I never thought I would pass on a Fallout game, but then along came this. Oh well..
It's a curious "why" from me. The article doesn't tell me what the machine is aimed at - probably because there is no info. Zhongshan Subor, I think makes cheap electronics games as well as appliances.. but it's a cat's breakfast to try to find anything on it. The console needs to have a market, games, OS, developers, a strategy, etc.. and this seems to have none of that. Just plonk it down and Hey- it's something! Strange.. seems like a waste of money for Zhongshan Subor. I'm sure custom R&D isn't cheap with AMD.
PSA: Most people have varied degrees of VR motion sickness. Your brain is not used to visually seeing you move, but the rest of your senses are registering with the brain that you're not. You're moving forward without your legs doing so and your inner ear isn't used to balancing like that.. eventually you do though and you can ride a bike fine. VR is a little like that.. you do get used to it.
shrug.. meh. It'll be a PS5 title and scaled down for the PS4/XB1. Personlly, the "gameplay demo" that wasn't shown to anyone except press who then came out and had dumb "what I saw blew me away but you can't see it so mwah" articles. Rubbed me the wrong way. So.. meh.
Whoever launches the first "streaming only" console will be the first to flop like a dead fish. "Yves Guillemot reckons".. indeed. Yves Guillemot has about as much credibility in psychic predictions as my right shoe. People LOVE strong hardware pushing out visually impressive games, they don't love tiny boxes streaming games. It'll never happen.
Oh god. more retro-bit graphics?? I am so tired of these "me-too" looking titles.
I watched this though, and despite the colorful artstyle which would have been made exponentially better if they had drawn with full resolution and allowed the artist to express the world fully, despite that - it sounded utterly boring. The concept is interesting, but this nearly put me to sleep. Maybe it was the narrator.. I dunno.
@tomassi ..umm.. okay. But the topic was for a PS1 classic, and there's already a SNES one. And just because you didn't play it doesn't mean it was a garbage generation. As a matter of fact, you sure must have missed out on a great gaming generation.
1. FFVII is a pointless addition here unless you just want to notch it in because it was one of the defining games from the PS1 generation. But everyone and their dog has played it and it's available to play on our toasters, I believe. Some of the PS1s lesser played, but great RPGs deserve the spot, like Suikoden3, Alundra, Grandia or Legend of Dragoon.
2. Thats a lot of space needed.. especially the multi-CD games. How much do you think this thing should cost? You don't need an expensive ARM cpu to do the emulation.. even the old PSP emulated PS1 at full speed, so the biggest cost factor is storage space. Sure it's come down in cost, but even the $80 SNES Mini only has 500mb on its systemboard.
Jaz007.. it is blurry on the regular PS4 - and equally blurry on the Pro! For some reason Bethesda didn't even enable higher resolution on the more powerful system.. it's a fun title in VR for sure, but oddly, they didn't really try to improve visuals.
Sony releases a statement: "We have been trying very hard to kill the Vita, but we had unexpected the continued support from other software developers in keeping it alive. As such, we have decided to cease allowing physical software production, as we believe this is not helping us achieve the goal of making the Vita a redundant piece of hardware."
Imagine how well the Vita could have done if the Vita's memory cards were readily available and as cheap as real memory cards. Also to be fair.. I play my Vita about as much as I play my Switch. Both, I think are really neat pieces of kit, but.. there is just not much on it that I want to play beyond the 2 big games I bought for the switch (Zelda, Mario), and the depressing condition of deleting games off my Vita memory card in order to download more - which also stupidly deletes your saved data.
@KingSandyRavage U MAD BRO? Seriously.. what's a hostile opinionated 36 year old Nintendo fan to do eh? PSVR may not be for everyone, but neither are most things. Fact is that PSVR is for some people, but not all people. Personally, I like it but it gives me a blazing headache so I can't play it.. but I'd like to. Its early tech too, so from what I've seen, there is a definite problem finding ways to present games in the confines of the tech. I really liked Skyrim in 2011, but being IN the game and freely handling a spell in one hand and a sword in the other while admiring the massive architecture towering over you is really something to behold. Playing Rez's Area X for the first time made me think that this could be what being a soul freed from the confines of its body might feel like.. Superhot VR makes you feel like a superhero drifting in bullet time. The experiences are really inspiring, but it's stil not for everyone. When it becomes as small and as lightweight as glasses, projecting directly onto your retinas.. it might be. But for now - and for those who can tolerate the hefty early low-tech entries... it is something they love.
BUT if you would rather play your beloved Switch until Jesus returns.. have at it, but don't be a hostile middle-aged gamer to everyone else.
It doesn't speak any character, true.. but what the blue heck is this a topic about?? And why? It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't express anything interesting.. but the topic is "..just as bad..." Can someone explain what exactly is "Bad" about it - and enough so to have an article to the topic? This feels like a petty complaint on an Xbox One fansite.. and others are jumping on this unclear/nonexistant bandwagon just to be topical with Push Square.
Played it once on my Pro. Brilliant graphics, highly polished, but I was struggling trying to figure out the controls. Pushing buttons seemed to do nothing. Saved the girl, died myself. Done. Deleted. Prob pick it up whenever Amazon has it down to $20.
Perhaps my point didn't come across properly Sammy. I was pointing at the corporate money-churning machines (driven by suits and bean counters who see us as cash-cattle) as the problem. I tried to say that the people at those companies who love games - or love what they do - do not have the opportunity to work for a company like Cory works for, so they can release a great product they can feel proud of.. and that their leaders in the company can be proud of them for producing.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of the Detroit: Become Human Demo?
Played it once on my Pro. Brilliant graphics, highly polished, but I was struggling trying to figure out the controls. Pushing buttons seemed to do nothing. Saved the girl, died myself. Done. Deleted. Prob pick it up whenever Amazon has it down to $20.
Re: God of War Director Reacts to Gushing Reviews
Perhaps my point didn't come across properly Sammy. I was pointing at the corporate money-churning machines (driven by suits and bean counters who see us as cash-cattle) as the problem. I tried to say that the people at those companies who love games - or love what they do - do not have the opportunity to work for a company like Cory works for, so they can release a great product they can feel proud of.. and that their leaders in the company can be proud of them for producing.
