@PuppetMaster That's great news, this game should pave the way for similar games from Sony.
I think a lot of other people will be the same as us as Astro Bot is a massive nostalgia trip that it makes you want to play older games or reminds you of certain games you might of forgot about playing.
I hope this game is mega successful sales wise and a sequel gets greenlit. I haven't played such a pure fun game on Playstation for years, I'm on the last world and don't want it to end 😢.
Also playing through the game has made me want to play through older Playstation games, so I think once I'm done with this game I will be downloading Ape Escape P, Jak and Daxter 1, Locoroco remastered and Patapon Remastered.
@Ralizah Apart from Fantasian, nothing new has been announced yet but I can't see their partnership with Nintendo ending as it's a place for their lesser projects like Harvestella, Triangle Strategy, Bravely Default, Live a Live, Dragon Quest Monsters and Treasures. Hopefully I'm wrong and those titles make the jump to other consoles.
I don't know if anyones mentioned it yet but if it is the Pro announcement then there's sure to be games shown that are running on the Pro. Could be a great opportunity to show off an unannounced first party game or GTA gameplay.
I said the other day with the failure of Concord Sony will start raising prices in various areas, and seems I was right (or most likely a coincidence 😅).
@Rob_230 Playstation marketed the hell out of those two games so it's definitely not Sony's fault they didn't sell well, plus it's not like releasing on Xbox would have boosted sales much anyway. A lot of people have lost faith in Square Enix, especially in Japan.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony have fell out with Square Enix, especially as they are rumoured to be bringing FF7 Remake and 16 to Xbox and have said they want to stop exclusivity going forward (apart from with Nintendo 🙃).
I also think they should be loaning out their older IP's to third party developers to make playstation exclusives whilst their own studio's work on what they do best.
I really enjoyed Days Gone and disappointed there won't be a sequel, but attacking Astro Bot is pretty pathetic of him. With a mentality like that I'm glad he's gone from Bend.
@2huwman Some people are just like that, they can still enjoy the game but some might be completionists who want to get everything in the quickest time they can due to having many other games to play as well.
This reminds me I still need to get the Quintessential Quintuplets games, just waiting for a sale. If those games made it to the west then I'm certain this one will too.
For me personally there's a big difference between a game being live service and a game getting an update. So when games get an update adding difficulty options or some slight new features then do they become automatically live service? Atlas Fallen just got a big update so does that mean it's a live service game too? Stellar Blade got a photo mode and costumes after a few months so is that also live service?
@PuppetMaster I agree, but unfortunately these days developers/publishers are only interested in sales numbers, it's probably why we won't be seeing a Ratchet and Clank from Insonmiac any time soon. Would be nice to see more smaller titles like Astro Bot fill in the gaps whilst we wait for the big budget titles.
@GamingFan4Lyf I would agree with certain games but even still there was a lot of games that sold way less than 9 million, some barley selling 2-3 million like Killzone, Socom, Resistance, Sly, Jak and Daxter, Gravity Rush, Infamous 1 and 2, Motorstorm.
I think playstation had to reinvent themselves and ditch some of those IP's, Sony's best selling games were on the PS4/PS5 with Spider-Man, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War 2018/Ragnarok, Uncharted 4 and TLOU remastered/2.
Before those, their games on PS2 and PS3 were struggling to sell more than 9 million, games like Killzone, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, Gravity Rush, Socom, Older God of War games, Infamous and even most Gran Turismo games weren't the huge sellers that Playstations games are today.
I'm happy for team Asobi, and hopefully this game sells really well so more time are resources are given to this developer going forward.
I'm already curious to what they can do next, do they stick with Astro going forward? Or do they move onto a new IP or even work on some older IP's like Sackboy or Jak and Daxter, or even a cross over game with all of them in.
@MrMagic Yeah it's going to be between this game, ReBirth and Balatro, two of which are exclusive to Playstation. I'm sure HellDivers 2 will take a few awards as well.
Microsoft are just trying to protect the Series S yet there has been multiple cases of developers either struggling to get their game running on Xbox or developers openly admitting the Series S is a nightmare. Then we have the fact Microsoft are struggling to make 60fps games even though they have the more "powerful" console, but in reality the Series S is holding their own games back.
Are Sony not allowed to make mistakes on games every now and then? I mean this is probably their only first party game to fail massively. Their consoles sales are strong and third party support has never been better, they have gave us a new VR and Portal devices. Plus we have Astro Bot coming up and HellDivers 2 was highly successful.
Yet there's too much focus on Concord failing right now, once Some AAA single player games come out next year people will forget all about this.
@Maubari Basically if it's a paid live service game then it's chances of flopping are very high, as in that same time frame there's been some successful live service games but they have been free to play, like Palworld, The Finals, Once Human, First Descendant and Honkai Star Rail.
HellDivers 2 was a rare occurrence, but the only reason is because it was unique and no other game on the market is like it.
I think the game will come back as free to play, and will include MTX in the form of cosmetics and battle passes. That will most likely attract more negativity, basically no matter what they do they can't win.
@kungfumongoose Yeah, people complain about games still releasing on PS4, but if developers have to scale back games so they can run on the Series S or Nintendo Switch then of course they are going to make a PS4 version too.
There's probably a lot of anxiety and low morale within the studio right now, it must he playing on their minds if they are getting layed off or not which is not good especially if they have families to feed.
But unfortunately there's no other way this is going to go.
@PuppetMaster It's a shame that Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars were restricted to the Vita, could have done a lot better if they were on Console as well. I think a single player Soul Sacrifice made into a Souls like would do well now.
In my opinion consoles need to stick around, especially for living room gaming. I've tried streaming games and it's nowhere near ready to be the main platform. There's input delay, game lag and audio delay over Bluetooth headphones, then there's video quality which most don't do 4k. It's worse on mobile devices, gamepass only offers 720p and then playing console games using touch screen controls is just awful, and casual gamers aren't going to want to play Console versions of Fifa, Call of Duty and GTA on a mobile phone.
Then there's the fact that if your internet goes down then you can't even play single player games, even with internet running the more devices connected the more laggy it's going to be. A streaming only future just sounds awful to me, and I definitely won't be supporting any platform that relies on it.
So far the only streaming that seems worth it is remote play which is fine if it's 1080p at least and on a native device that you don't need Bluetooth controllers and headset attached to otherwise the lag/delay is there too.
Seriously though I think their best approach would be to make single player games that also have a separate multiplayer mode as well like TLOU 1, GoT, Killzone and Uncharted, but this time add MTX to them as well.
@IOI I agree Sony/Firewalk did a lot wrong with the game, it's like they rushed it out as it was a quiet year for them other than Astro Bot. I think charging for it was the biggest mistake especially as it offered no story missions which I think could have helped it gain appeal especially if they were PvE based, it's something the Overwatch fans craved but never got. It's too risky to make a PvP only game and ask for money for it and then announce plans before release to add MTX later.
Also have the Beta 6-12 months before release, ask for feedback and change the game accordingly. The vignettes are cool to see but add some gameplay element to them either single player or PvE, add battle passes as that's what people are addicted to these days, make the overall gameplay a bit faster and add some playstation themed content into the game. All this could have been implemented if they had feedback a lot sooner.
I'm hoping Sony keep Firewalk around and get them making their next game or give them TLOU Factions to finish. So far Concords sales have brought in revenue of £1 million and Sony surely atleast paid £100 million for Firewalk, that's atleast a loss of £99 million for the creation of this game so far. If the studio gets closed then Sony will be looking to cover that cost by raising prices in some areas.
@TedLassoNikes Yeah but it's a single game in a market that consists of thousands of other games. I'd get it if there's only an handful of games releasing per year then yeah you would want to make sure you're getting games you actually want. Also Firewalk have never made another game, so Sony haven't stopped them developing single player games to make Concord as they were working on it before they got acquired. Sony haven't taken anything away from these gamers by making Concord.
I hope the people celebrating this failure won't be complaining about Sony on this site when Firewalk gets closed down, all staff are layed off and there's a price rise to something to cover the loss. Don't forget that's what you advocated for....
It's embarrassing how happy some people are getting over a game failing which in return will lead to people losing their jobs or Studio closures.
If you don't like a certain game then move on and play one of the thousand other games available instead of fixating on one game to fail so it's inflates your ego.
Makes no sense to do this, the game was always going to sell way more on Playstation than Xbox anyway. So what would Sony get out of this deal? It's on PC as well which is where it has the most sales and Sony have run no marketing at all.
Just sounds like a few disgruntled xbox shills crying and trying to start some negativity because the game isn't on xbox yet. I suppose Sony also had a secret deal with Baldurs Gate 3 as well?

@BigJoze Yeah those playstation symbol levels are quite rage inducing, especially that lava one Splashing Sprint.

Well we've had HellDivers 2, Astro Bot and soon to be Lego Horizon, games that are different to what they are known for lately.
Next bring back Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter and make a proper Little Big Planet 4.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Astro Bot?
@riceNpea Yeah just commented on it, it baffles me they don't know the difference between single player games getting updates vs a live service.

@riceNpea Sorry, had a blonde moment.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Astro Bot?
@riceNpea The live service article was about Astro Playroom not Astro Bot.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Astro Bot?
Loving the game so far, just completed the first world and now I want a new Ape Escape game so bad.

@GamingFan4Lyf Scroll down towards the bottom for the individual games sales.
https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Best_selling_Sony_games
Its only since the PS4 that Sony's games have really taken off for some reason, it's not like the PS3 games were bad at all in terms of quality.

we’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms.

@Blaze215 Fairgames might flop but Marathon will be a hit as Bunjie have a good track record in terms of quality and will also be multi platform.

But I bought the physical version from an online retailer 😔.
