@OldGamer999 Yes but the WiiU gamepad was also the controller to play normal games with, people weren't interested in playing games with that thing. Playing handheld also wasn't compatible with evey game and also needs the main console unit to be on to play handheld mode. Then there was the awful naming of the console as some people just thought it was another Wii variation.
The WiiU had some great exclusives but still couldn't get many sales, there's no other reason why it failed so hard other than those points I mentioned.
@naruball The reason the Wii sold so well was because it had a unique selling point that people were actaully interested in which was the Family/Party and Exercise focus and peripherals, The switch has a unique selling point in it also being an handheld and has a wii style controller layout for fitness/party games so people were interested in that as well. The Wii U and GameCube offered no unique selling point that people were interested in, Most of Nintendo's console sales don't come from the games selling the system, it's the systems gimmicks that help Nintendo push sales.
If the next Nintendo Console is just a home console that offers no gimmicks then it's sales will be less than half what the Switch has and the casuals won't bother with it.
@Deoxyr1bose Sony only acquired them 15 months ago so the majority of the game had already been done and funded by then so it won't be too much of a financial hit to Sony's own resources but if the game flops and Sony decide to shut them down then it becomes a huge financial hit as that would be the acquisition price wasted.
I am quite intrigued to find out how much Sony paid for this studio considering it's their first game, unfortunately theres no info online.
@NEStalgia The battle pass in Splatoon isn't a paid one, it's a free one that gets changed every three months. Also if the game is free and people enjoy playing it as much as they would playing £60 single player games then I don't see the problem with them spending some money every now and then. I've spent £8 in Apex Legends over the last 4 years for one battle pass and that battle pass gave me enough free currency to get the next one and then same again with that one etc and I've put in around 800 hours in that time. Yet you can spend £60 on some single player games and complete them in 10-15 hours, so £60 for 15 hours of enjoyment vs £8 for 800 hours of enjoyment. Obviously it varies on the person as some spend more but play less but it's up to each individual person to put their own value on their enjoyment.
Just watched some gameplay on YouTube and I now agree with the article about it being an Overwatch clone. From the map layouts to how the game plays, if that gameplay was shown to me without me already knowing it's a new marvel game I would have thought it was Overwatch with a Marvel event.
Atleast Concord is trying to do it's on spin on things instead of copy and paste with a change of skins.
Hmm not gonna lie i don't like the idea of not having a battle pass, it's a reason for people to keep playing everyday and it's quite satisfying seeing the pass progress and unlock stuff. I think they could have added a free pass every few months like in Splatoon 3 or even a paid one but with the currency easily earnt in game like with HellDivers 2.
Its not a deal breaker as there are still things to unlock by levelling up the characters but once those characters I play as are maxed out then what?
I played this game for around a year now and it's not as bad as some make out, there's lots to do in the game and the combat is pretty good. The only thing I wish they did better was the story access and the controls are quite fiddly when accessing menus.
@thefourfoldroot1 I've played a lot of JRPG's since Sony's stance has changed on censorship and tbh there's hasn't been much difference when it comes to outfits, most anime games have revealing outfits and almost all of them have swimsuits available either in game or as dlc. I think the thing Sony censored and basically put a stop to are the mini games where you can touch and rub characters body parts to pleasure them like in Senran Kagura and Omega Labyrinth Life.
@Cherip-the-Ripper Its enough to get a feel of the gameplay mechanics and I didn't really like the premise of the story. I like to give most live service games a try and I usually know after a couple of hours if it's a game for me or not.
Honestly don't know how it's doing so well, I found the two hours I played to be very boring and just didn't click with me. Then again neither did Warframe or Destiny 2 so maybe these kind of live service games ain't for me.
@Fishmasterflex96 I get what you're saying but you have to remember Sony own the HellDivers IP, so without that what do Arrowhead have to offer? At the moment they kind of need each other unless Arrowhead go and make another original game that becomes a hit.
@Shepherd_Tallon I think adding a campaign mode might take a year or two which by then means more resources spent which will most likely turn it into a £60 game, which will turn off a lot of people.
@WhiteRabbit Exactly, like they've done with most of their other acquisitions. Im surprised they haven't acquired Arrowhead yet since HellDivers 2 has done so well.
Its like they panicked and thought we need to rush onto the live service train and bought whoever was up for sale even though two of them had no track record and the other one (bunjie) was overpriced.
@get2sammyb Well it depends on the reason Sony bought these devs, if their sole purpose was live service and they flop then they will 100% be shut down. But if they had plans for them to make single player games as well then maybe they will get another shot.
Calling it now, if this game flops then by this time next year Firewalk will be shut down, Fairgame$ cancelled and then not longer after that Haven will be shut down, Sony will then cut more staff to recover the losses.
I think the game will mainly do better on playstation 5 and that will be it's main audience as we know by now that PC players ain't the nicest towards Playstation. If HellDivers 2 wasn't made by a third party dev and had the PSN requirement day one then it wouldn't have done as well as it has on PC.
I played it on the weekend and enjoyed what I played but I do enjoy hero shooters in general like Apex and Overwatch so it's up my street. I will get the game on release and play as much as I can in the first few months just in case it dies off.
@Fishmasterflex96 People wanted it to fail before any gameplay was shown, same with Fairgames and any other game Sony were planning on releasing with their live service push. If you've been on this site over the the last two years then you would have seen the high amount of hate Sony have been getting for planning to release live service games.
Have to laugh at the entitlement from most players here, it's like Sony are the only game publisher around that's not allowed to make multiplayer games. The same people that will be bashing Sony (again) when they have to shut down Firewalk if this game flops. The same people who try to make out multiplayer games are so bad yet they themselves play Fortnite, Call of Duty, EA Sports FC, Apex Legends, Diablo, Elder Scrolls Online etc etc
The animations and humor were great in my opinion, quite looking forward to the weekly vignettes but i do wonder how long they will continue to go on for.
Ignore the haters that haven't even played the game, they just want to put the game down because they either don't like Sony's live service push or they just don't like Playstation full stop. Those that have played it though have the right to criticize or praise the game as much as they like.
Personally I found the beta quite fun and put around 6 hours into, so my pre order is getting placed at the end of the month.
On PS5 i will be playing some more of the Concord Beta, been having fun with it so far. I will also be playing Trails Through Daybreak and Tunic.
On Switch I will be playing Splatoon 3 as I usually do on Splatfest weekends, pretty much the only time I play the game now. I will also be playing Luigis Mansion 2 HD and Spy X Anya.
On 3DS I will be continuing with Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright.
@get2sammyb Yeah the games I've won so far were ones where we grouped up and had an healer, quite a lot of games though where people run off looking for the most kills. People need to treat this game more like Overwatch with strategy and keeping close to team mates, even in Trophy Hunt and Takdown modes. Been playing mainly as it-Z myself, easy to escape some losing gun fights with her.
@Czar_Khastik That will go for half the comments today, Sony's live service push was doomed to fail before it even started. Well, until HellDivers 2 shut people up for a while.
I've enjoyed what I've played so far so il definitely be picking it up on release. It's not the best live service game around but by far not the worst either, I've enjoyed it more than Valorant i can say that for sure.
This game will be close to dead in three months time, the game has no originality and copies Destiny and Warframe too much. I played for 4 hours and didn't have fun at all.
This is good and bad news, good news as I'm looking forward to trying the game out and now I can earlier than expected. Bad news is I get the feeling that the only reason Sony are doing this is because the pre orders are very low. Although friend groups would only need one person to pre order as they would get an additional 4 beta codes.
@Monstermash40 After the PSP they pretty much went full on Nintendo exclusive with Inazuma, Layton, Fantasy Life, Yo Kai Watch and Little Battlers. Obviously that didn't work out for them as they nearly went bust and had to close their localization studio. Hopefully they bring more multiplatform games out now, seeing Yo Kai Watch and Inazuma go multiplatform and Decapolice coming to playstation is great, although I wouldn't expect Layton to come over.
@Wilforce Live service games can be full paid games with no mtx, live service just means it's constantly getting new content added similar to No Man's Sky and Animal Crossing which were also classed as live service.
I'd rather buy and re sell the games I want day one, I only use playstation plus Extra for games I wouldn't buy day one or games I want to play but haven't got round to buying them in a sale yet.
But for gamepass it was inevitable that prices were going to keep going up as with bigger budget games getting added it then becomes more and more unsustainable. How long before they remove EA Play from gamepass.
They've added "early access" editions for gamepass games to try and get more money, they've raised the price once already, they are putting their games onto Playstation consoles, and now they've increased the price of gamepass again. It's pretty obvious it's not working and Sony were smart not to follow their strategy.
@themightyant Ah my bad then I'm just going by what people are saying online about it, saw yesterday as well that it went from an average of 1.1 million players per day in January to 440K in February and then was at just 20k in May.
Just checked an the last 30 days are averaging 40k per day so it has gone down overall but went up slightly for the update. So yeah it's not dead by any means but it seems the big hype around it suddenly dropped off.

That's a bummer, for the last 5-6 seasons I've been getting the battle pass with the currency earned from the previous battle pass as I always get quite far to earn enough. But requiring money instead each battle pass and then multiplying it by two each season is just pure greed and hopefully will blow up in their faces and will change their decision.
If not then I won't be playing as much anymore, and luckily there's some more live service games coming out I can replace it with.
@Mikey856 Yes because they are free vs fully priced games, if Spiderman, Uncharted or God of War were free to play im sure they would also hit 50 million.
Also these free to play games rely on the player spending money, not all of those 50 million players are spending on microtransactions, most will either download it to see what it's like and not touch it again, plus there's people like me who will play but not spend any money, I've put thousands of hours into Apex Legends and Overwatch 2 but haven't spent a penny.
Nintendo and Playstation probably make more money off their single player games than some of these live service games make. Only the big popular ones are raking in the money like this game, fortnite, cod, overwatch etc, that's why so many live service games flop and close after a year or two.
So 1% of games released (on console) are live service yet people still have a problem with that 🤦, I hope these people are playing all 99% of the single player games to make them this entitled.

Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?
I think a better strategy for Sony would be to offer discounts on brand new first party games for those on Extra/Premium tiers.
Extra tier subscribers get 15% off whilst Premium tier subscribers get 30% off, it's still an incentive to subscribe without cannibalizing sales.
Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?
