I still think this feature should have been available from the start, the fact all it's product listing across various shopping sites won't mention this feature so new buyers will not know about it. Also just making a blog post is limiting its reach, they need to advertise this feature with either trailers, emails or even a notification on the PS5 at some point.
@rjejr You don't need a PS5 to create an account, you can create a playstation account on their website, then download their app, sign in and subscribe to playstation plus premium. Then sign in on your Portal and there you go, PS5 games without ever owning a PS5.
@get2sammyb For me the Portal was a test device to see if people would still be interested in a playstation handheld. Hopefully it's done well and Sony get the message loud and clear.
@Greifchen That's pretty much a 7/10 which for me isn't a bad score at all, a 7 generally means it's "good". If the PS5 version is running better it will probably score in the 80s.
Although I'm looking forward to it I think Syn Duality will be a flop for them next year and will probably turn them off online games altogether. Just hurry and get the next Tales of game done and also leave the SAO games behind and move onto something else like a Danmachi, Shield Hero or Reincarnated as a Slime.
I'm currently on the last dungeon and it's definitely a contender for game of the year for me. But man those optional towers at the end are destroying me, may have to miss them out.
This is great news and makes the Portal even more worth getting now, hopefully the whole Playstation Plus Extra/Premium catalog will be available later on. And then next year the capability to stream games we own that aren't on PS Plus.
@AstroBot Same people who cheer for their Nintendo/Xbox acquisitions and are very vocal when Sony do something wrong or make a flop. You even have a user named Deathtosony who non stop has something to say about playstation. There seems to be a massive hate train towards Sony just because they are the market leader.
Having Crunchyroll, Aniplex and Kodakawa would make Sony an Anime powerhouse for sure. If they can make Anime more popular and more mainstream in the west then I'm all for it. I see some people are complaining even though they likely don't even watch anime or know the industry. Sonys own Aniplex create about 1% of the Anime released every year and all Crunchyroll do is Sub/Dub anime series for the West, so it's not really a monopoly on Anime is it.
Not a fan of consolidation but with Microsoft, Embracer and Tencent buying up most the market then I don't blame Sony from doing the same. They need to continue to grow to survive, not be content with what they have whilst everyone else gets more IP's.
I wish things like this were available sooner (if not at launch), for a single player game to get outfit DLC 7 months after release seems a bit pointless, most of the players have already completed the game and won't play it again just for an outfit or two.
On PS5 i will be continuing with Lego Horizon Adventures which I've just done the sacred lands and it's been quite fun so far. I will also be finishing the last dungeons in both Metaphor Re Fantazio and Trails Through Daybreak.
On Switch its more Mario Party Jamboree, just unlocked the 7th board and hoping to make it 6-1 against the misses 😂, I will probably put some more time into Mario and Luigi Brothership, just doing the Lottacoins area but so far this has been the best in the series.
That VR2 price is very tempting, I've saved enough to get me either a Steam Deck or the VR2 but just waiting to see if there's a sale on the Deck before choosing.
@Medic_alert Exactly, people keep hating on Horizon yet Zero Dawn sold more than the Resistance and Killzone games combined, same can be said for Spider Man. Same happened with Japan Studio, game were selling poorly yet comments on this site would make you think they were mega beloved IP's.
Problem is it's not much of a fan base hence why they stopped making games.
But, I still think the IP is worth a second chance, especially how Sony have handled their single player games since the PS3 gen, people have more confidence in their quality and their marketing is now on another level.
They should atleast get Bluepoint working on a Remake to see how many are interested before making a brand new entry though.
@cburg Its not like Microsoft haven't money hatted games either, last gen they had Titanfall, Dead Rising, Tomb Raider, Ryse, Alan Wake, Sunset Overdrive as third party exclusives timed or full. Even this gen they've had The Medium, Stalker 2, Palworld, Scorn, High on Life, Ark 2 and some smaller indies as exclusives, and even a Kojima game coming as exclusive. So you can't just point the finger at Sony, who pretty much only go for Asian games for deals lately.
@SuntannedDuck2 I honestly believe one of the main reasons Microsoft bought both Bethesda and Activision was to hurt Sony, it's funny how Sony had exclusive deals with both of them and were about to get Starfield, yet Microsoft then buys them. They also went after Sega with marketing deals for the Persona games yet Sony usually had the deals for those games.
Damn now that's a good month, I will definitely be playing Dying Light 2, Digimon Survive and Like a Dragon Ishin. And I might even upgrade to premium for those Resistance games, hopefully a lot of people do so Sony get the message Resistance is still wanted.
Is Like a Dragon Ishin standalone? Or do I need to play the others to understand the story?
They definitely won't be able to buy any more huge publishers like EA, Capcom etc, but I suppose by his wording they are looking out for mobile developers or someone from China to make some gacha games for them. Probably to help them become a bigger publisher when they transition to becoming fully third party. Nothing for Playstation to worry about like with their previous acquisitions.
But man what a way to make Xbox even more irrelevant by saying any of their games could (will) come to their main competitor. At this rate Playstation and Nintendo will be the only ones with home consoles within the next 10 years.
Concord was destined to fail even before the characters and price tag were revealed, the amount of comments online on this site and social media running the game down as soon it was announced it was a live service game. The character designs and price were just added fuel to their already unnecessary outrage at Sony dabbling in live service.
Sales arent as abysmal as people are making them out to be, also Veilguard will be included into the EA Play subscription within 12 months so a lot of people will be waiting for then, especially those with gamepass.
It's a tough decision for me personally, there's been three 10/10 games this year and that's Final Fantasy 7 ReBirth, Astro Bot and Metaphor Re Fantazio. Those three games deserve it the most and hopefully it's one of them that gets the main prize.
Sony must be laughing right now, don't have to pay the marketing deal anymore but still get the better version and their sales are have increased whilst their competitors are declining. That gamepass boost best be BIG otherwise I'd expect another price increase to gamepass within the next 6 months.
The more I see and read of the Pro the more I want one, the things a beast. I might pick one up after Christmas along with the VR2, just hope the motion sickness stays away.
Probably because PC players are sulking over the PSN requirement again. Also these games are never going to do as well as they would on Playstation consoles, Sony are using to the PC platform as a quick cash boost when the Console sales for these single player games dry up, so I don't think Sony really care if sales aren't that impressive on PC (unless it's a multiplayer game).
On PS5 I've got the last dungeon to do in both Metaphor Re Fantazio and Trails Through Daybreak so I suppose both of them will take me all weekend to do. If I can finish them quickly then I will move onto either YS Nordics or Farmagia.
On Switch I will be playing some Mario Party Jamboree, time do 30 turns on the shopping mall board.
How can they turn a blind eye to a corporation that's actually monopolizing the market yet complain about Sony reducing what they have. These Studios Sony shut down had no note worthy IP's and haven't made Sony a profit at all. Concord was a new IP and was literally Firewalks first game so how taking that away from the market is causing harm to competition is beyond me. Or are they saying Sony are spending hundreds of millions for the sole reason to close these studios down? Yes because Sony have that much money to waste.
@Jayslow Fully agree, across the PS5 and Switch I don't think I've enjoyed a year as much as this one and there's still some bangers to come like Dragon Quest 3 HD, Lego Horizon, Mario and Luigi Brothership and Fairy Tail 2. Although that might be biased for me as I mainly play JRPG's and this year has been stacked for great JRPG's.
They are right, there's now quite a lot of decent games and ps5 exclusives as well such as Final Fantasy 7 ReBirth, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Dragon Age Veilguard, Astro Bot, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, HellDivers 2, Dragons Dogma 2, Silent Hill 2 all not available on PS4, and of course next year there's Monster Hunter Wilds, Death Stranding 2, GTA 6, Ghost of Yotei, Assassins Creed Shadows etc that are skipping the PS4.
So yeah more than enough reasons to finally get a PS5 for those who haven't yet.
They've either released or revealed this year HellDivers 2, Astro Bot, Lego Horizon, Concord (although a disaster), Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Ghost of Yotei and the Horizon Remake. Throw in the third party timed deals like Silent Hill 2 and FF7 ReBirth then I wouldn't exactly say they haven't shown anything this year or not kept their fans busy.
Next year should hopefully be better in terms of the big first party games and we should see some Wolverine and Marathon gameplay plus the release of Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. But I can already tell all of that will be overshadowed by the negativity towards Fairgame$ (if it releases).

For those in the UK the Portal is down to £185 at the game collection.

Only just realized this is free with Extra, maybe have to download it and atleast get the story mode done.
