@johnedwin This is why Sony won't need to make any big acquisitions going forward, Microsoft were their only competition and they are going downhill fast and are losing even more market share even with buying Bethesda and Activision. Any big games from them will be coming to Playstation and possibly Nintendo as well.
The only company Sony need to worry about from now on is Tencent, and how much of the industry they want to control.
Finished this a week ago so this has not gone down well. The story felt complete and is no need to add extra content and possibly change the story completely.
@Major_Player "Disappointment" lol I don't even like Souls games so I wouldn't say I'm disappointed and like I said this changes nothing going forward for Playstation gamers apart from we now get some Playstation IP Anime and Souls Movies/TV shows. Also this purchase would have cost billions so maybe that money can now be used elsewhere or to acquire someone else.
@Major_Player With Microsoft going full third party Sony don't need to acquire publishers or studio's for exclusives going forward so l don't get how this a huge blow. Playstation players haven't lost or gained anything and nothings changed apart from Sony owning some shares.
@Ryoth Didn't they sell the Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain IP to Nintendo?
In terms of the Astral Chain IP "Inaba would confirm this change in an interview the very same month, stating Nintendo now have full ownership of the intellectual property, though they were not at liberty to disclose the specifics of the change."
Those specifics would most likely involve some financial exchange. Although I don't know if Kamiya was around when this happened.
@QiaraIris But Daybreaks Action Combat was limited and very bare. You had an attack, dodge and one special move, it was only made to stun enemies before going tactical or blasting through weak enemies when farming.
@Major_Player A huge blow in what way? Apart from the Souls IP there's nothing else major they do gaming wise, and now Kodokawa won't be bought by anyone else and us Sony players still get to play their games going forward.
Its a win for all platforms today. The Chinese are kept away, Nintendo get to keep Acquire making their games, Spike Chunsoft can continue making great visual novels and Xbox players can "breathe a sigh of relief".
Basically Sony just wanted the IP for Animes and some movies, shame. Makes sense why they wouldn't want to acquire them outright.
But the fact it was even being considered means they have some money for an acquisition spare so hopefully they can get someone else down the line (if they are worth it).
The moment that school aspect and teenage crew get left out of a Persona game will the day that series goes down hill. The majority of people buy into the games is because of the school mechanic and coming of age emotions that each of the characters go through. I get that some people want change but some games die by changing what they are best known for.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Borderlands 4
Trails Through Daybreak 2
Ghost of Yotei
The Outer Worlds 2
Next year is hopefully going to be as good as this year and hopefully we finally see some big JRPG's get reveals/trailers like Kingdom Hearts 4, Persona 6 and Dragon Quest 12. GTA 6 will hopefully launch next year as well and to top it off we have the Switch 2, seriously looking forward to what 2025 brings.
This pretty much guarantees that Elder Scrolls 6 is coming to Playstation, which is really the only game I'd care about making it over. Actually I'd take State of Decay 3 as well.
They should be grateful to even get nominated, a 76 rated metacritic game doesn't usually get that far. Astro Bot was one of the highest rated games of the year and was pure fun to play, not just some other mediocre Souls game that the market is packed with right now.
@Megageeza22 They do allow Early Access games though, Towers of Aghasba is early access, same with Smite 2 and last year they promoted a game called Wayfinder which released as Early Access.
Nothing is as worse for shovelware than the E-Shop, and tbh Shovelware isn't going away especially as these platform holders get a cut of the revenue. What benefit would Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft get for stopping these types of games.
Concord flopping doesn't make this a bad year for Sony at all. We've had Astro Bot, HellDivers 2, Horizon Remastered, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and FF7 ReBirth. The Pro released to decent sales, Xbox porting over their games with Indy and Outer Worlds 2 next year, and we've had a big improvement to the Portal with cloud streaming. The year was capped with Astro Bot winning game of the year and who knows maybe they can announce the acquisition of Kodokawa before the year ends.
Cross Play should be standard by now, especially as those on xbox will find it harder to find players than those on Playstation/PC with less install base.
If the deal goes through then I'd expect Acquire to be shut down but Spike Chunsoft to stay around and stay multiplatform. From Software on the other hand could go either way, if Microsoft plan to keep Elder Scrolls 6 exclusive then I would make Elden Ring 2 a PS5/PC exclusive in return.
On PS5 i will be playing Trails Through Daybreak and Zero Escape 999, I will also be trying Marvel Rivals to see if it can get hooked like the first Overwatch did.
On Switch its Mario and Luigi Brothership, I think I'm past half way now and it's been enjoyable so far albeit a bit tedious with the combat.
And on the Portal its more Tomb Raider Legend and Monster Hunter Rise via streaming which I'm currently using whilst playing it co op with the misses who's using the PS5. It's a great way to play those online co op games in the same room without having to own two PS5 consoles.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I hope you enjoy the rest of the game, I didn't think it was as bad as people made it out to be. The combat was fun, graphics were nice and the story was good for a more modern realistic isekai. The grind is there later on when you get access to more bigger maps with lots to do and collect but it's optional and don't stress thinking you have to do everything.
1. Astro Bot 2. Stellar Blade 3. Final Fantasy 7 ReBirth 4. Metaphor Re Fantazio 5. Unicorn Overlord
I would have had YS X Nordics at number 5 but it wasn't included. Trails Through Daybreak would have also been there but I'm still not finished with it so I won't include games I haven't yet completed.
I didn't watch it but still rated it Excellent by the reveals and trailers I watched when I woke up this morning, especially Intergalactic, Outer Worlds 2 and Okami 2. Then to top it off we had Astro Bot win GOTY.
Didn't watch it live but seeing what was announced if rate it a 9/10. Also fantastic to see Astro Bot take home so many awards and even HellDivers 2 taking a few. Congrats to Metaphor Re Fantazio as well.
If the PS6 doesn't have a disk drive then I won't be buying one day one and stick with PS5 for a few years, the Switch 2 would probably become my main console for Jrpgs then. But, I just can't see physical games disappearing until digital sales reach 95% of all sales.
@ZeD my comment was purely for Take Two's release schedule, but I think Sony will 100% want to avoid GTAs release window. So I think Ghost of Yotei will launch in the summer.
At this point a lot of developers/publishers will be holding off on announcing release dates and will be a huge sigh of relief from them if GTA gets delayed to 2026.
It's on too late in the UK so I won't be watching it live. I might get up half hour early on the Friday before work and watch the trailers of the games I'm interested in.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5 Action Game of 2024
My vote goes to Stellar Blade with Granblue not far behind.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?
I've got 9 days off work and have Dragon Quest 3 HD as a pressie so I will be pouring most of my time into that.
Just bought MH Rise Sunbreak DLC as well so will be playing that with the misses and downloaded the Rabbids Party of Legends game to try as well.
Other than those it's just the usual multiplayer games Apex Legends, HellDivers 2 and Marvel Rivals.

@Ainu20 Well whilst he was at platinum they were partially known to making console exclusives and selling their IP.

Re: Sony Becomes Kadokawa's Biggest Shareholder As Companies Form Alliance
Does this mean we now get Anime/Manga versions of Sony's IP going forward? Now that I would like to see. And surely an Elden Ring tv show is a given.
Even a Bloodbourne Remake thrown in with that purchase 😉.

Re: Stunning Trails in the Sky Remake Confirmed for PS5 Release in 2025
This is looking great and cant wait to play as I missed the originals on the PSP.
Not a fan of them making a YS X Nordics Proud edition though, makes me not want to play their games day one going forward.

Summer - Mafia
Fall - GTA 6
