Re: Talking Point: Can PS5, PC Shooter Concord Be Saved?

Yagami

I´m glad this crashes and burns, if only so it can make big publishers and developer studios think twice about releasing another live service online multiplayer shooter

@johncalmc I agree. It´s just a very unappealing game that doesn´t understand its target audience at all. The article didn´t mention this due to its political nature, but the modern kind of "inclusivity" that this game radiates obviously doesn´t sit well with a lot of people, whether they say it or not. This product was doomed to fail, trying to cater to people who don´t actually play video games

Re: Joy as Capcom Ditches Gendered Armour in Monster Hunter Wilds, a Series First

Yagami

@Stale-Bread I view the issue a little differently. It´s a development philosophy change moving from the remains of a "hunting simulator" to a pure action title. It´s clear that MH is more popular than ever, but to me it is a former shell of itself (only in some ways, I obviously still love the incredible graphics and the meaty and flashy combat)

Re: Joy as Capcom Ditches Gendered Armour in Monster Hunter Wilds, a Series First

Yagami

I think it´s great, especially if they keep making multiple designs for every set. Fashion is one of my biggest draws in these kinds of games and more options are always welcome.
I´ve done multiple playthroughs of some MHs before, but that was back when I really used to be into this series (2nd and 3rd gen). Now I have no desire to play these games that extensively, so this just adds a lot of flavor

Re: Joy as Capcom Ditches Gendered Armour in Monster Hunter Wilds, a Series First

@Max_the_German It´s the same thing over and over. I still dislike that they "casualized" mining and gathering from MH World on, to the point where you don´t even need to get mining gear. If you just casually mine here and there during regular hunts, you are basically set for the duration of the game. I can see why people dislike it, since it´s not the most exciting, but it also added a lot to the idea of living as a monster hunter, that it´s not just fun and games while beating up monsters. Now everything is just super fast for the sake of convenience.

If you disagree with my sentiment, think about the saying "the bad parts in life make you appreciate the good parts". It´s the same for video games, a cumbersome and struggle-filled process yields a more satisfying result than one, where you are basically transported to the destination without even having to move.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Black Myth: Wukong?

Yagami

I started it yesterday after a grueling 100+ GB download, but only managed to play around 20 minutes after fiddling with the settings.
My PC can barely get a stable 60 FPS on medium-high settings with raytracing disabled and quality DLSS. I do have some odd stuttering, which makes it feel less smooth than I would like.
Although I´ve seen that there are already some mods that attempt to address some of the performance issues, so I´ll try those when I find the time.

My first impression is pretty good, the gameplay in the tutorial fight felt fairly good and it looked really impressive. I did notice a lot of clipping in the cutscenes for some reason, like the spear of the tutorial boss clipping through Wukongs armor, or that old man you meet at the first bonfire after the tutorial fight, his beard growth was clipping through his clothing.

I´m on the fence on whether I should play with the Chinese dub or English. I usually prefer playing with the native language from the country of development, because I dislike most English pronunciations of foreign places and names

Re: Genshin Impact Boss Cries on Stage Following Harsh Fan Feedback

Yagami

@Maubari I disagree. I dont think it´s unacceptable. People can say whatever they want on the internet (within legal limits of course). If you wear your heart on your sleeve, you obviously open yourself up to being attacked.
These devs need to get a thicker skin in my opinion. If every dev was this pathetic then studios all across the globe would go up in flames due to hurt feelings

Re: Embracer CEO Says PC, Console Segment the 'Bad Guy', Video Games a 'Volatile' Business

Yagami

@dark_knightmare2 Marvel succeeds precisely because they have a sound strategy of utilizing their juicy IP to provide people with characters they actually like.
Likewise, The First Descendant succeeds where Concord fails, because it´s actually got characters that people want to play as. It sets itself apart thanks to its superior T&A
Why would anyone choose to play Concord, when Overwatch or Valorant exist? It´s laughable

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024?

Yagami

I thought it was ok. There weren´t many games I hadn´t seen before that I was actually interested in. There were also no reveals of games I was actually hoping for.
My main takeaways were that MH Wilds is looking even better than I thought and that Peter Molyneux finally made a return. I also registered for the Infinity Nikki and Khazan beta tests. Here´s hoping

Re: PS5 Open World Crimson Desert Gets 7 Minutes of Raw Gameplay, and It Looks Ridiculous

Yagami

@J2theEzzo The combat in Witcher 3 is by far my least liked aspect from that game. Its dull and repetitive swordplay killed nearly any enthusiasm I felt when actually fighting, especially against some of the bigger monsters. I guess if you engage in actively using the ranged options and signs other than the shield, you might enjoy it more. I found the melee aspect to be pretty lame though, no combos, only like 2 special attacks. Even some Zelda games offer more elaborate move sets

DD2 combat is basically just a more refined Dark Arisen. You have the same amount of skills as before for every class, except for the wayfarer, who can weapon swap (it´s the only one I didn´t play, so don´t quote me on this)

Re: PS5 Open World Crimson Desert Gets 7 Minutes of Raw Gameplay, and It Looks Ridiculous

Yagami

I wonder what the "Battery" stat is about (you can see it when they open the menu for a moment near the 3rd phase of the fight)
If it´s like DFO, where you can only play a certain amount before all your progress is halted then I´m gonna be so sad.

Other than that, this looks pretty fun. Here´s hoping the single player portion somehow doesn´t involve a permanent internet connection, I hate playing action games online

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Confirms October PS5 Release Date in a Much Better Trailer

Yagami

I´m kind of shocked at this trailer. The gameplay reveal they did earlier left me with the impression that this was still a game that was largely focused around Solas. Now we´re fighting gods? The *****?
I understand the need to raise the scales as a last ditch effort before the studio goes up in flames, but man. I hope this turns out all right, it doesn´t look completely terrible

Re: Persona 3 Reload Dev Says P3P's Female Protagonist 'Likely Never Going to Happen'

Yagami

I simply do not understand the problem people seem to have with this game, calling it lazy or a cash grab.
Have you played it? Have you listened to the soundtrack? Hundreds of dedicated artists must have poured their heart into this game, and you ***** on it just because the publisher does some questionable stuff
I played the original on PS2 and I can say with certainty that this version is the definitive one for 95% of the player base, simply because it´s a lot more accessible and less grindy. The new OST is also arguably better, though I do prefer the original singer for many of the tracks

On that note, I wish review scales would change to offer two seperate scores. One that factors in the price and another that simply looks at the game as an artwork, unmarred by any hostile pricing models or paid launch DLC mumbojumbo. Then people could actually see these games for what they are, instead of being blindsided by their anger against big corporations robbing them blind

Thanks for reading my blog post

Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for Gamescom 2024?

Yagami

I always like to watch these big stage shows, even if a lot of it is completely sanitized corporate drivel and I´ll never play 99% of the games shown. Geoff seems like cool dude, like he´s even friends with the Hideo Kojima.

I wanna see some new big cRPG titles. Maybe Larian will show off one of their new games. I´d also like a release date for Avowed
Maybe they´ll show off the new 40K Total War game? That would be cool
Or some Kingdom Hearts 4. I'd love to see more of that
Not that it´s ever gonna happen, but I would love to see Soul Sacrifice (it´s a Vita game, in case you don´t know) brought up again in any kind of way, or maybe the missing Patapon 3 HD remaster
On that note, Bloodborne 2, Bloodborne 1 for PS5 or a remake of Dark Souls with the game actually finished would all get me moderately excited

Re: Ubisoft Suggests More Development Time Required for Future Assassin's Creed Games

Yagami

Ubisoft games are rotten from the inside. Disregard all the drama about identity politics and bad graphics and whatnot, the real issue is the mindnumbing world and quest design.
The game worlds are always far too large and filled to the brim with the most inane side """""""content""""""" that would make even early 2000s F2P MMOs blush.

My plea to all developers: stop making gigantic games stretched with boring filler content, make compact games that are actually consistently fun (more than 40-50 hours for a 100% completion is way over the top for a game that is mostly action)
