Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

The big thing is that this is supposed to be a remaster, not a remake. A remaster should have minimal changes (whether they personally offend you or not) From lines of dialogue being changed (one guy calling Frank a commie) to the VAs being swapped out. Even rewriting Frank to be less of a sleazeball, despite that being how his character was meant to be. He wasn't an action hero, he was a scumbag put in a crappy situation that eventually decides to do the right thing for once.

Everyone seems to be focusing on the photography thing as the one big thing (which is how this always works. Everyone always targets the one thing that best lines up with their preconceived notions) but in reality the photography is just one slice of a big cake of changes. Does it REALLY matter in the end? I don't even consider it "censorship", it's just a pointless change that only a few people would have cared about if it was still in. Same as how only a few people really care that it was taken out.

I watched a rather comprehensive video of all the changes from someone who was clearly passionate about the original release and it seems that all these little changes and edits do add up. The casual fan who just wants to mindlessly murder zombies in a mall won't notice but for those with love for the original release, just play that one on PC and install some mods to update the experience (it'll be cheaper too!!)

Re: Suda 51 Says 'Everyone Cares Too Much About Metacritic Scores'

I don't have an infinite budget or endless time to hope that a game I play will be worth said money/time. Highly reviewed games are usually a safe bet, though I don't mind gambling every now and then if the game is from a developer I enjoy or a genre I like. Ultimately though if you want good review, just make an objectively good game.

Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?

Honestly the pro just doesn't seem like that much of an improvement over the base console. It's not like we're talking buying a series X over an S. It's just... slightly better and that's it. It's kind of a shame since I've been considering trading in my original PS5 for an upgrade but not if it will hardly be an upgrade.

2 new titles being added every week seems rather compelling. I can see the library growing to a respectable number in a year, if the platform is still available. There is something to be said about how easy it is to just pick up and stream without having to fuss with roms and emulators. Unfortunately they really should have launched with a free trial, to ensure you can even play these games well.

Absolutely, I almost quit playing one of my favorite game franchises (Persona) because I was more worried about collecting shiny fake things and I got so upset that I missed an event that would force me to replay the entire game just to go back and get it. Missing that trophy was so frustrating and all I could think about when I started the game, to the point I would barely get any progress done. Eventually I set the game aside and just played something else for a while..but in that time I thought to myself "WHY am I doing this? Do I EVER have fun getting these trophies?" At most I'll get an endorphin rush that lasts for like 20 minutes when the plat pops and maybe a simple "congrats!" When I tell friends...but was it worth the hours of frustration getting some of these trophies usually brings?

I decided then that the answer was no and went back to play Persona 5 again, solely focusing on completing the game and ignoring any of the remaining trophies. Ever since I just play something until it stops being fun, I don't even bother to complete games if I'm not enjoying them. Gaming first and foremost should be fun! I don't know how I forgot that a long the way. Reading this article about the trophy grind for Concord makes me happy that I left that part of myself behind.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws (PS5) - Open World Pledge Produces a Superficial Space Outing

Ubisoft have gotten lazy. They think they can slap the Far Cry formula on everything and it'll just work. The lack of attention to detail really shows from different gameplay clips I've seen. Little things like the characters not getting wet after going in water, the NPC animations very lacking...this is what happens when you pump out open world after open world.

Re: Talking Point: Can PS5, PC Shooter Concord Be Saved?

ATaco

Just gotta cut your loses. I'm not sure how well it'll do going free to play (and it'll probably piss off the few actual fans the game has if they turn around and suddenly hand it out for free. I feel like both Concord and Sony were too stupid to correct ship and have now got to take their lumps for it.

Re: Preview: Civilization 7 Makes Some Bold Changes, and They're Probably for the Best

@anubisvel
While true, while playing Humankind I ran into the issue of the game quickly becoming a race to advances ages and pick the civ you wanted before another player was able to take them and lock them out. I just feel like this "changing civs" idea was already implemented in Humankind (which is a very Civ style game already) so my hope is that this doesn't just become a repeat of that game, which I wound up not enjoying as much as traditional Civ.
