Going to try and get the dualsense, although I am not hopeful I will get one against the scalpers bots. I need a new controller anyways and if not I shall just grab a standard black one.
Hopefully we will get some new 1st party IP in the near future for SIE. Jim Ryan's strategy of sequels and remasters might take a while to undo though.
While the minor additional or removal of something will not affect me, the principal that someone believes someone else should not see something that was originally there (Because it makes them uncomfortable/perception it might make other uncomfortable) sets a dangerous wider term precedent for more significant things to be censored in the future (In and out of gaming).
My question to the publisher is why try to profit off an IP you are no longer comfortable on the contents within? Just make a new game and set your own path.
I just finished the game after 70 hours and I have thoughts.
The pros are:
The raytracing and graphical fidelity is great
the pawn system is unique.
The world feels reasonably dynamic with emergent gameplay
Some interesting characters and historical themes
If you did buy any dlc it can be re-used in a new game save
The downsides:
FPS can be poor in high npc dense areas
Pawns are often repetitive, especially if you choose to pad the game exploration out.
The story missions are pretty short and the story is pretty basic - you need to grind to get to a comfortable level (40+)
The game feels padded out - in some ways it very much is a jogging simulator and collection which some with love and some will hate
There is an ending that locks you out of NG+ until you meet all the requirements. You can also be locked out of certain missions at certain parts of the main story. This is never made clear in the game.
It's very much a "I need to check this guide online because I don't know what to do/what this means" kind of game even for those who are competent. Having one save file means checking information is vital not to miss a significant amount. This is very much a symptom of most modern gamers used to more linear AAA experiences.
Some quests can be bugged and require workarounds.
A novel concept, but devs should focus on good quality games with some uniqueness and people will want to buy them! Gamepass has too much indie fluff and Phil finally figured out Xbox is wasting money. Playstations stricter selection of indie games like Stray, Stfu and Sea of Stars Stars is bearing fruit.
@PegasusActual93 it's pretty normal practice for ratings to come through 6+ months prior to launch. The release date and marketing cycle has not even started yet so I'd expect updates in may or June for a late 2024 launch.
If one pillar of a bridge collapses eventually the rest of the bridge will collapse. PC and cloud gaming are safely on the shore. The home consoles are on the bridge.
I think it will only be in late 2024 - late 2025 when games like Star Wars Outlaws and GT6 come out that we will really see the PS5 pushed to it max by 2 developers with large budgets and the best in class talent at game engine optimisation.
If this saves people having to go to YouTube, it could be a big help. I have used YouTube recently for DD2 and Prince of Persia the Lost crown puzzle based missions.
I brought both digitally and I am sure a lot of others did too. I can also imagine the sales for DD2 on PC were much higher than console. The concurrent players peaked on steam for DD2 at around 225,000 if that is any indication.
Weirdly I think the current motion blur implementation has helped me notice the variable FPS less. I'm glad they are addressing some of the main issues such as being able to toggle graphics options and a 30fps lock.
I'm playing it and it's not bad! I'm enjoying DD2 more and I honestly presumed it would the the other way around. The performance FPS wise isn't great considering it genuinely looks like it came out in 2014. It's not the mass market game I think a lot of players presumed it would be hence the lack of marketing. Even on the easiest dawn difficulty it's more akin to a challenging normal mode combat wise for those who don't enjoy souls like games. I'd rate it a 7.5 so far and may an 8 if the story has a good ending.
This is an optional DLC as the wake-stones can be easily found in world during gameplay and can be used to revive NPC's and the Arisen. There are around 1000 unique NPC's in the world and if they die it's a permadeath unless you revive them at a morgue or in the world where they were felled.
A lot of misinformation about the MTX has been going around by people who have not played the game so watch out for that.
I apprehensively got this for PS5 thinking it would look like a slide show but I have been pleasantly surprised. I have zero regrets now and it's worth every penny of the £60 I spent on it.
It's weird because I was certain I would have a big issue with the uncapped frame rate as I'm usually sensitive to it. What I came to realise is that it's the frame pacing being off that bothers my eyes. From what I can see the frame pacing is generally not too bad. The graphical fidelity on PS5 meant the FPS drops aren't as huge as PC. Overall I have barely noticed the FPS in game because I've been so engrossed with the game. I have noticed the unstable rise of the ronin FPS a lot more.
It does have some performance issues (RT unlocked framerate mode on my 120hz screen seems to work well.). Overall I am enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would!
That's why you should take reviews which a pinch of salt, as they are subjective. What someone hates about a game you may love (Like fetch quests). I shall be enjoying this and DD2 until Stellar Blade and Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes is out in about a month.
Hopefully it won't affect those planning on playing DD2 or Rise of the Ronin tonight (I'm guessing you need to check in with the PSN to verify the licence unlock time.)
I brought this and DD2 and will be playing both. As someone who quite enjoys a Ubisoft style collection and bonding systems this might actually be an enjoyable game for me. I'm also looking forward to the planning/micromanagement type of gameplay that DD2 offers and no doubt I will juggle both over the coming weeks. These games are almost like a break when the other one gets too much.
Surely people aren't silly enough to think that Atlus makes these choices.. It's SEGA. They own Atlus and publish all their games. Stop complaining about Atlus.
Let's respect the developers creative choice. I strongly dislike TLOU2 but I totally respect the creative choice that Neil Druckman took with excessive violence. The way he and his team choose to portray women is just a different way to the Stellar Blade director. Neither are wrong and both are valid.
Doing day one PC launch alongside PS5 is 100% the right thing for Sony to do for their financial health. PS5 users are a pretty hardcore bunch so the loss of sales on console vs the huge uplift of PC sales just makes sense. I am pretty sure this strategy will be put into place within the next couple of years.
It's great that is is coming to Gamepass, they will get players in like myself who are on the fence and they already have their pay-out so don't need to worry about the game being loss making which ensures the creative vision is more flexible. Most PS5 exclusive players have a half decent PC that they could get Gamepass on to give this a shot.
I can play a locked 30fps but I can't tolerate a unstable frame rate/pacing. It hurts my eyes. I won't be buying this until they have the decency like 95% of developers to add a capped framerate option.

Played a few hours but got distracted by other releases. It's a beautiful game but didn't completely click with me in the 4 hours I played to date.
It's in my backlog now alongside 13 sentinels and I hope to play both in the near future.
