Wish I had the patience for true turn-based combat (I was ok with it in Yakuza: Like a Dragon because that was turn-based with several sets of training wheels). Anyway, hope everybody who buys it enjoys the game. Surprise hit of the year.
@TheRickestRick
What are you talking about? You don't agree that we should be paying $100 for the broken, bug-filled messes that many 'AAA' studios produce these days? How entitled of you....
@naruball Sony fans will certainly lap up remasters/remakes and have. And speaking specifically to this recent decision I've already seen the damage control that leads me to believe the subscriber numbers will not see a dramatic decrease. Already seen a ton of 'well MS raised the price on Game Pass.' It's always some sort of deflection to defend Sony's actions.
@Member_the_game We all know that's not going to happen. One thing I've learned is there's a large segment of the PlayStation fanbase that will just bend over for Sony no matter what the company does. And of the few who do complain, 90% have no backbone and will just resubscribe when it's time.
Just looking at it from the games available it's a putrid month but there have been a lot of those in the past so saying it's the 'worst' is probably a stretch. When you factor in the asinine price hikes on PS Plus, I'm sure there's some who will say this is the worst month and it's not completely unfair. When my PS Plus subscription runs out in January, I will for sure not be reupping.
Didn't listen to the fans and attacked them. This sucks but it's not surprising how everything played out. People had moved on from SR anyway, they damn sure didn't want this Saints Row in name only trash and the way the devs handled the negative response of fans who had been wanting a new entry pretty much sealed the game and the studio's fate.
@Squatcheemagoo BS for sure. With these asinine price increases, especially the price of Premium I need to see, at the very least, one game from each system with every new update. I don't want to hear any excuses either. One PS1 game, one for PS2, 3 and PSP, each month. On top of that, they should all be available for individual purchase whether it's a first party game or not and, since Sony more than has the money, fix the putrid PS2 emulator and figure out a way to make PS3 games downloadable. When the price was lower, the laziness was easier to deal with, not anymore.
Massive L. After my premium subscription runs out I may pay the $80 for Essential but even that is really pushing it. Hilarious that some people are defending this garbage, especially when Game Pass, which is a better value, isn't even really worth what MS charges. I try to be fair, so I'll wait to see what Sony does before passing full judgment, but reacting off what I've seen so far, I'm not confident. The current lineup for Essential is a complete and total joke. At the very least, give people a lineup that isn't garbage to try and justify the price hikes.
@Pepsiman_100 I'm sure it is. Honestly, we're lucky anybody at Sega thought enough of Streets of Rage to license it out to Dotemu, which, imo, did a great job with 4.
Astro's Playroom is easily in my top 10 (maybe 5, still) PS5 games. Really hope if they make a new entry in the series it's not strictly limited to VR, having some VR related content for those with the headset would be great, but these games need to be available to as many people as possible.
@Pepsiman_100
Been saying this for years. I love Yakuza/Like a Dragon, thrilled we keep getting new games, but I also feel like we're missing out by not getting a 'AAA' Streets of Rage from RGG Studio. The pedigree is obviously there, I think it'd work brilliantly but this is Sega, that company's (non)use of certain classic IP is as infuriating as Nintendo and Sony.
@GeneJacket
Multiple factors. There's people such as myself who get every console, there are the hardcore PlayStation fans who get everything Sony releases and then when looking at the competition the Switch (where I've actually done most of my gaming since 2017 despite considering myself more of a PlayStation guy) is older and most people who want one already bought it and Xbox continues to be in a situation where for every good decision there seems to be two bad ones that make it not a compelling option for people on the fence. We'll see what happens once Nintendo's next system is out and the studios/publishers MS has purchased get more Xbox exclusives on the market but, for now, with the combo of all the big multiplatform releases and Sony's IP, the PS5 is the most compelling option that isn't a PC.
How this series has fallen so far since its PS2 glory days is beyond me. Sports games, of all genres, should be getting better as tech improves, not worse. However, the latter is exactly the case and the Madden series is the epitome of it.
I don't think this is a good thing. I'm a huge fan of the Dualsense, so much that I'd even list it as my favorite controller in my over 3 decades of gaming. However, the battery life in it is absolutely putrid.
Awesome, this is one of my most-anticipated upcoming games might even be the one I'm most hyped for. Really like Tekken 7 and everything they've shown for 8 so far seems phenomenal.
@B-Real Yeah, a very good SoulCalibur game made even better. I figured we'd get it eventually because Namco's been releasing a lot of PSP games. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. Very fun on PSP but with a proper controller? Even better.
Seems like everybody is going crazy for Mortal Kombat 1, but this is the fighting game I'm most hyped for. Tekken 7 was a nice step up from 6 and 8 is looking like it could be the successor to 5 that I've been waiting for. I'm thinking this game would be a great way to kick off very early 2024.
@Smiffy01 Yeah. Every time I got a new car in Ridge Racer that was improved over the one I was using was a 'hell yes' moment. Really felt like I was accomplishing something.
@Smiffy01 As much as I like trophy/achievement hunting, I'd happily trade it for the plethora of in-game unlockables we used to get. That for me was better confirmation of the progress I was making.
Might be in the minority but I'm very happy with the PSP lineup. Big fan of Medievil Resurrection. Never played the other two but looking forward to trying them.
Awesome, great to see that whatever the issue was, Sony and Bandai Namco worked it out. I'll happily pay the money to own RR 2, it's a stellar game and now I won't have to worry about losing it if/when it leaves PS Plus.
Didn't care much for Tekken 6 (my least favorite in the series, actually) on PS3 so I have no desire to play the PSP version, but if that game is getting put on the service I hope it means we could one day get the PSP version of Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection as well, that's one of my favorite fighting games of all-time. SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny was pretty bare bones but in terms of gameplay is great, will download that one for sure.
@DennisReynolds Western games get a pass, it seems, for how they depict characters and situations. Bayonetta 3 is on a Nintendo system, if Lollipop Chainsaw was going to that machine I'd be a lot less concerned about it getting toned down. Sony and MS both have been pretty strict on niche Japanese games in recent years.
@DennisReynolds Juliet's outfit is going to have to be changed in some way and for sure the DLC costumes from the first game, which should be included with the remake, will not be. Other than that, I also expect the violence to be a bit more tame. Even Gears of War has lost its edge in that regard in recent entries. Seems to be another industry wide trend with only Mortal Kombat escaping it.
@Nepp67 Yeah, at least from the studios that are slower putting games out I'd rather see new IP. Of course there are always exceptions and for me that's Capcom and Resident Evil. RE is my favorite franchise, so I hope we keep getting sequels. Would also love a Code Veronica remake (the last in the series that truly needs to be remade).
@DennisReynolds Baldur's Gate 3 is also a game that is part of a hugely popular IP and it's a game from a Western studio. Larian Studios was always going to be allowed to do whatever it wants. It seems there's a much stricter policy against Japanese devs, at least on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Nobody who really matters in terms of working on the first game is involved with this and it'll probably be toned down to all heck because 'modern audiences.' It's an easy pass but very annoying to see studios wasting time on remakes/remasters. 2021 was a great year for this gen since then I feel like it's really slowed down. If it wasn't for Insomniac, not sure I'd have gotten a PS5 yet.
@Flaming_Kaiser Exactly. While it does get tiresome seeing so many remakes/remasters, it's at least understandable in the case of RE 2, RE 4, Metroid Prime 1, Dead Space... These are some of the best games of all-time, Lollipop Chainsaw is cool but it doesn't even stand out in its own genre and given the current climate, which is even more hypersensitive than the early-mid 90s were, the game can't even be itself. Seems a waste but whatever, I guess. In every entertainment industry right now, retreading old ground seems to be the 'in' thing.
@Tielo
Sadly I feel like we could say this about a lot of studios that used to have great turn around time on games. Sucker Punch and Rockstar have been putrid of late with their output. In the former's case it's especially disappointing because that's my favorite Sony studio. Like every Sucker Punch game I've played but it takes forever and a day to get a new release from SP since the PS4 era.
I won't hate because eventhough I disagree with a lot of stuff he's said and think he comes off as an arrogant a-hole, he has made a lot of games I really enjoy. Even TLoU II, while the main story was unoriginal, pretentious garbage, I loved exploring the world, the back stories that each building seemed to contain and the gameplay itself, particularly combat, was a huge step up from TLoU 1. It's possibly the best Naughty Dog has ever made just from a pure gameplay perspective. So, while the studio is far from my favorite these days, and I would have zero interest in TLoU 3, if it's a new IP, I'll be intrigued especially after some fairly recent comments Druckmann made. Seems like he could be entertaining stepping out of his comfort zone and that'd be a great thing. Naughty Dog has always been at its best when trying something new.
Terrible but not shocking.. I'll buy expansions that have work put into them or skins if they're reasonably priced but unfortunately a lot of my favorite games that I would consider getting the DLC for have asinine prices. SF 6 is my favorite game of the year so far, but I'm not buying this overpriced nonsense.
@tselliot Yeah, $50 for this or, if somebody has the option, less money for the Xbox 360 version that has One X enhancements and still features online. Seems like an easy choice.
I've always liked the GTA games so I'm interested in how 6 will turn out but given some of the people who've left and some of the idiocy that went on with the GTA trilogy and current gen ports of V, I'm not overly confident I'll enjoy 6 as much as previous games but we'll see.
I don't follow Evo much other than for the announcements of any new DLC or games. Was disappointed we didn't get an official release date yet for Tekken 8, which is easily one of my most anticipated games, but the new character reveals were cool. Also liked the SF 6 DLC announcements and a new Fatal Fury is very good news.
There's always that one game that, even if it has decent hype like this did, surpasses everybody's wildest expectations. It looks like Baldur's Gate 3 will be that release for 2023. And we'll see how this prediction holds up (may age like milk) but I think it will take home the majority of overall Game of the Year awards.
This is the correct perspective. Maybe at one time the term 'JRPG' was used in a mocking manner but that was way back in the early part of the 360 gen, and even then nobody took clowns who said it mockingly serious because most of them fit the 'dude bro' Madden, CoD and GTA only stereotype to a T.
@Khayl I didn't even realize it was turn-based so thanks for that bit of info. Outside of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Lara Croft Go, I can't say there's too many turn-based games I enjoy, though I won't completely write anything off before learning a lot about it. Looking forward to seeing what you think of the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3.
I'm all about developers wilding out in any aspect of a game as long as its given the appropriate age rating and I'm glad that it doesn't seem Sony is interfering and forcing some form of censorship. That said, it also seems like all they're selling is the sex. Obviously that was a part of The Witcher and Cyberpunk, relationships a huge part of Bioware RPGs, so that's all cool. But as much as I enjoy over the top elements (the violence in MK or 360 era Gears of War, what seems like crazy relationship situations in this game), I need substance to back it all up and maybe I've just missed but it doesn't seem there's been much talk about BG 3's gameplay or anything else. Guess I'll have to wait for some reviews before deciding if this will be worth a full price purchase, or, if it's worth one at all.
Awesome, RE 2 is my favorite game of all-time and though I didn't love how they did the second scenarios, overall the remake was a great way to bring a classic back for old and new players. I do appreciate the ability to move and shoot, even back in the PS1/N64 era I didn't care for the tank controls. Great to see it's sold so well. What I'll be interested to see is if RE 4 remake can catch it. 4 is considered by many the best in the series and that remake is doing some great numbers as well.
I better see these games brought back, then. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are far, far too good not to be widely available especially this day and age with the tech that we have.

Re: Don't Worry, Activision Totally Has the Source Code for Those Awesome PS3 Transformers Games
I better see these games brought back, then. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are far, far too good not to be widely available especially this day and age with the tech that we have.
Re: Insomniac Games May Have a Third AAA PS5 Exclusive in Development
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is still one of my top 5 favorite games on the console, I hope it's a new game in that series.
