I don't know how tf the devs got away with that outfit shown in the video, but I'm happy they did. I'll use that one, along with plenty of others, including the more covered-up ones, just like I mix it up in the Bayonetta games and for the male and female characters in Street Fighter and Tekken.
At the end of the day, though, it's all going to be about how this game plays. That demo needs to be real. It's a risk, obviously sales will be putrid for sure if a demo is not well received but if the demo proves the gameplay is good, well, you may get some unexpected positive gains
Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5. Some FF XVI as well, been making pretty good progress in both. I don't know why I didn't really get into XVI sooner, bought it day one and loved the combat but then kind of stopped to focus on some other games and didn't go back until recently.
@Max_the_German Yup. Was going to say the same. Even if you combine the PS5 numbers it doesn't reach the Switch OLED on its own. Can't be what Sony was hoping for when it gave SE a bunch of paper for the exclusivity deal.
@MrMagic Exactly. I'm all about the fanservice, but the gameplay has to deliver. So far I like the aesthetic, Eve seems likeable and the story will probably be filled with anime tropes but sometimes that can be fun. Now, all that's left is the action being good. The combat looks cool in previews but seeing isn't the same as playing. I hope there will be a demo.
One thing I like about the Bayonetta games, and I guess you could say Tekken as well, is that there are a lot of options for different outfits. Bright Memory Infinite also provided some different choices. It's something I appreciate from devs and 30 right out of the gate sounds good. Hopefully some of the post-launch costumes will be free but if there's cool crossover stuff I wouldn't mind paying $1 or so.
I wish I could get into the Dragon's Dogma series. Generally speaking I love Capcom's games and Dragon's Dogma hits on every note, except gameplay. For whatever reason, the first didn't click with me. Probably shouldn't entirely write 2 off, however, as Monster Hunter never clicked either, until I played Rise.
I love the Gravity Rush games so I'd buy a remaster of 2 for sure but, eventhough I think there's a better chance of this happening with a post-Jim Ryan run PlayStation, I still think it's 95% not likely.
Final Fantasy VII Remake. Have to finish the last bit so I can get started on Rebirth. Also since I'm on an FF kick, I'll be trying to work in more of XVI. I stopped playing fairly early on last year because I was hooked on Street Fighter 6, but picking it back up, that game is quickly becoming my favorite non-remake/remasatered FF since the original Crisis Core release in 2008.
There's been a lot of unfortunate gaming news lately but as far game releases themselves, credit to Namco, Sega, SquareEnix and Capcom. They've brought some serious heat this year.
I don't think reviewers should have to update their reviews. Adding a shop, which has been known about, doesn't change the way Tekken 8 plays or the fact that a ton of content (more than most modern fighting games) is offered right out of the box. That said, I don't like how fighting games have become ridiculous with their microtransaction schemes. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round and DoA 6 are among the worst but stuff like Street Fighter 6 isn't much better. Namco just opened this one and I'll be interested to see how it progresses over time. The initial prices don't seem terrible but there also isn't much here yet.
I'll wait and see how this all plays out before criticizing it but I can't stand the way Capcom has handled things with SF 6. I really hope this isn't similar.
@get2sammyb I'd pay for Tekken Bowl if they bring it back, but I'm guessing that might be out of the question since it was in 7.
This sucks and hopefully all those people find something else quickly.
Things in the 'AAA' portion of the gaming industry have gotten out of control and companies are struggling to respond. Hate to say it, but just like with Xbox, I think PlayStation, as we've known it, is pretty much finished.
The part of the article that stood out to me is smaller devs still preferring Switch, an extremely old piece of hardware, over PlayStation when the PS5 is clearly more capable as evidenced by even smaller games such as the Contra remake struggling to run well on Nintendo's platform. It just shows how much PlayStation from the PS3/early-PS4 era has changed and not for the better, imo.
I'm no fan of censorship or 'cancel culture,' but there's always exceptions and in this case the decision is completely justified. And as more news comes out about the McMahon family as this case goes on, it wouldn't be wrong to remove Stephanie from the game either. Information regarding what happened to Ashley Massaro when she was with WWE is stomach turning and if proven true, Stephanie isn't some innocent, little victim of her father people are pretending she is.
I can tolerate jank (one of my favorite games last year was Wanted: Dead) as long as there are enough redeeming qualities in the gameplay, the story is fun and the music deliver. We'll see what happens, there are some talented people involved with the game.
I'll repeat what I've constantly said and people can call me a fanboy if they want, I don't care, I like and game on multiple platforms and have the receipts to prove it... Exclusives are good, they're what help sell products and the only reason Phil Spencer spouts the stupidity he does about them is because the Xbox brand tanked after Mattrick's idiocy and he was never able to get it back on track. If roles were reversed and Xbox was outselling PlayStation 2:1, there's no way he's saying the same stuff he does now.
Resistance Retribution is one of my all-time favorite PSP games, still have my copy but want to play on the tv and look forward to doing some trophy hunting. Jet Moto 2 will also be fun to revisit. Good enough for me.
My game library has a lot of Namco titles in it, one of my favorite developers of all-time but these days it seems like it's Tekken, Tales of and then everything else. And even Tales of can be hit or miss. I'd love Ridge Racer to come back but sadly I don't think Namco has a clue what to do with that IP anymore.
I believe in exclusive content and always will. Even these streaming tv/movie services have it. If you're going to make a console you have to give people a reason to buy it and games that can't be purchased on a competing brand is one way (though certainly not the only way) to do that.
And all that aside, the only reason Phil Spencer keeps crying about this, like he's been doing for more than a handful of years now, is because the Xbox brand has faltered courtesy of his former moronic boss, and he was never able to fully fix the mess that Mattrick created. If roles were reversed and Xbox was outselling PlayStation 2:1, there's no way Spencer is talking like this.
@wiiware Yeah, that's why I bought the PlayStation version. Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Tekken... Those games have all appeared elsewhere but they still just 'feel' like PS franchises.
A top 10 PSP game for sure, still have my copy but can't wait to play it on PS5 and get some trophies. Highly recommend it to people who like the Resistance series.
@ShogunRok I'd throw The King of Fighters XV in there as well. The genre is the best it's been in a while. Maybe the 5th and 6th gens had it better but not by much.
Great to see. I've always loved the Tekken series and this entry may be its best, certainly the top one since 5. Hopefully sales continue to remain strong as it's very well deserved. I'm a big fan of Street Fighter 6 as well but this game easily cleared it for best fighter on the current gen.
@ED_209 Not that it was an unusual strategy from Sony when you look at PlayStation's history, but there was a reason they were beefing up the 2nd/3rd party exclusive and timed-exclusive lineup. Sucks there won't be Ghost of Tsushima 2 or a new game from Bend, Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, etc, but it is what it is.
Very hyped for this release. Downloading both the PS5 and PS4 versions as I type this so I can start playing when I get home from work in the morning. I was an N64 guy back in the day and only ever played parts of TR 1 and 2 on my friend's PS1, never went back when I got the PS2 because I was catching up on too many other things. I started with this series in the Legend, Anniversary, Underworld era and those are still my favorites. Happy there's an option for controls similar to that, even if it's not perfect.
Great review and happy to see the general consensus overall has been that these remasters are well done. Wish there was a physical release but this is better than nothing, hopefully it sells well enough so we see more of classic Lara in the future.
Certainly they don't have to but I'd recommend a lot of people, especially the hardcore Xbox fanboys (not Xbox fans who are for the most part reasonable people who just have a preference), calm down, get some fresh air and just wait a little bit longer here. This isn't a Sega situation, which is the good news because due to its financial status it had to leave hardware, MS only has to drop Xbox consoles if it wants to and I don't see that happening yet. But, we'll know for sure pretty soon. I've always been interested in the business side of gaming because sales are important, in a sense, but I see the numbers than move on. This situation is much bigger than just sales numbers and it's the most intriguing situation since what was going on with Sega over two decades ago now. It's crazy that the big 3 as we currently know it has lasted this long and I hope Xbox continues to stick as a competitor because we need more than just PlayStation in the high-end home console market.
Tekken 8 for sure, this game has me hooked in. I've played through The Dark Awakens story and all the character episodes. Up next, the arcade quest. If I play anything else, it will be Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased his Name. Need to complete that so I can start LaD: Infinite Wealth.
Not really surprised PS5 are up. TLoU Part II only cost $10 to get if you already own the first and this re-release did have some cool new game modes added. Then there's the two big multiplats, Tekken and Like a Dragon, that released to critical acclaim and are associated with PlayStation far more than anything else. Now we're not too far away from another heavy hitter in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this month. PS5 sales should continue to rise and there won't be real competition until Nintendo is ready with Switch 2.
As somebody who has always been more about single player games and very rarely dabbled in online multiplayer, I'm happy some devs still have this line of thinking.

We're playing these games because they're from Western AAA games. If I want a WRPG, I'll buy it. When I buy Japanese games I don't want the exact same stuff as what can be found in Cyberpunk or GTA for example.

Re: PS5 Action RPG The First Berserker Looks Brutal and Bold in New Gameplay
I liked most of what I saw but that frame rate is horrendous and a deal breaker if it doesn't get fixed.

Sadly I'm starting to think that Code Veronica remake will never happen. Which sucks because that's my favorite in the series after 2.
Re: MLB The Show 24 Adds Female Ballplayers to RPG-Inspired Road to the Show
There's been baseball games in the past that featured female players, cool to see Road to the Show add more options for people.

Yeah. Though Capcom and Sega's RGG Studio have been on fire for years now going back to 2017.
Re: Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Event Announced, But Don't Expect Any Wilds Info
Seems like a missed opportunity but whatever. Just as long as development on Wilds is on course, that's all that matters.

Re: Recent Steam Concurrent Player Data Suggests Japanese Games Are Thriving
It's good to see but what I hope doesn't happen is the Japanese developers lose sight of what's going on and try chasing Western trends again like many did in the middle-later stages of the PS3/360 era that carried over into the early part of the PS4 gen. All fair points. We'll see how this all pans out come April. Sony was willing to invest in it, so hopefully it turns out to be good.
