@get2sammyb @Quintumply Thanks for taking the time to make this guide. Not sure I'll use it, unless I get really stuck trying to find something, but still appreciated. This has been one of the few websites that's given this game the coverage it deserves.
@Whately86 I'll be interested to see the regional numbers as well. But just as interesting will be platform breakdown. My guess is it sold better on PC but would've be surprised if the PS5 version, despite the technical shortcomings, also did very well.
@TruestoryYep I'd have said Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, even if it's a remake, was the frontrunner for Game of the Year based on reception but the Astro Bot reviews have me re-thinking that. Black Myth: Wukong looks fun for what it is, but like Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin (two games I really enjoy), not GOTY material.
@truerbluer A crazy rollercoaster ride the last few days. The Concord disaster but then this gigantic W. Hopefully the PS userbase shows up to support it.
People can call me crazy, I don't care, Astro's Playroom is still one of my top 5 favorite games on PS5 and I had very high expectations for this. Have to play it to find out for sure but I'm very encouraged by these reviews as it's grading ahead of even some of Nintendo's best. Not that I had any doubt the team would deliver. Rescue Mission was also great.
So I can see right from the first comment we're going to keep trying to down play this success as 'it's China carrying the sales.' 18 mil is 18 mil no matter how the game got there. Heck of an achievement with a huge media campaign against it in the West.
The Last Story is one of my favorite games on the original Wii and I've been looking forward to Mistwalker's return to consoles. Would've preferred action to turn based, but I'm still going to give this one a go.
I'm definitely going to buy this game but after this review and other stuff I've heard from people I trust, it may be a 'wait for sale' type of purchase. Not too surprising. The demo wasn't bad but it wasn't exactly something that made the game feel like a launch day must-have either.
@KundaliniRising333 There was a lot I didn't like about The Last of Us Part II main story wise but one area that Naughty Dog knocked out of the park (and is the reason no. 1 reason I'd still say TLoU II is a rock solid 8/10 overall), is the gameplay. Since that would've been the focus in an online multiplayer game, day one buy for sure. Such a missed opportunity.
@ED_209 A small team inside Naughty Dog created specifically for the purpose of maintaining the game. I don't believe for a second that they couldn't have pulled off Factions 2 and if it meant no single player game from them this gen? Well, the industry is what it is these days. But Factions 2 is a game that definitely would've been worth it, even heavily pro-single player gamers like myself would've bought it.
I'm probably in the minority with this opinion but I'm willing to make big compromises to get a stable 60 fps for a game like Monster Hunter. Even if that means 1080p resolution.
This is why I trust this website. Doesn't matter if it's a third party game or a big first party release, time and care is taken with these reviews. No way it'd be possible to form a real opinion, good or bad, on a live service game so quickly after it launches.
@Randinator123 Definitely. A shame, too. Both those games deserved better sales than they got but I can also understand why gamers turned away from them.
@get2sammyb Wouldn't surprise if it sells better on PC and interesting point you make in the article about consoles, now more than ever, possibly competing with PC and losing players due to it. I've never been into PC gaming but I get more tempted as the years go by to finally get a Steam Deck or one of the other portable gaming PCs like the Rog Ally X.
Too bad there's so much other dumb stuff going on with this game that is absolutely a no buy for me. Taking out the erotica mode I could understand, I'm a fanservice guy but even I didn't think that was necessary back in 2006. All the other stuff is just beyond moronic though, especially removing the 'anti-communist' line.
@get2sammyb I'll be looking forward to this website's review since it seems there's a good number of staff who like tennis video games. I enjoy Top Spin 2K25 but would love to have another game to compliment it.
@InsertUsername I was disappointed in that game too. First Insomniac game I can remember that I didn't like at all and surprising because both Spider-Man 1 and Miles Morales are among my favorite more recent games.
@somnambulance
Same. The trailer for SH 2 also didn't help but I don't really know why I expected anything great from a Western studio like Bloober, especially when paired with a Konami that is a shell of its former self.
Yes, it's getting extremely annoying at this point. I'll play this style of game from time to time but definitely not my favorite. What prevents Stellar Blade from being my current favorite game of the year is it's gameplay. If it was more similar to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, it'd be much more fun. Instead, another Soulslike.
I do appreciate that the devs are updating the game with free cosmetics like this. If they'd wanted, definitely could have charged real $ and made some bank.
Bought if for Switch and been enjoying it, though, as with all older fighting games, the difficulty really annoys me at times. Would probably give it a 7/10, not the greatest roster but still pretty good and the game is fun to play overall.
@rjejr Time sure does fly, especially as you get older. I remember visiting this group of websites way back in 2006 when Nintendo Life was called vc-reviews.com. 🤣
I don't think it's that outlandish a question considering Monster Hunter been very successful on Nintendo platforms and people are going to want to play the series on the Switch's successor.
Heihachi, just like Bison, is a classic character and, personally, I'm glad he's back. However, the way both Capcom and Namco acted, it's funny watching them get roasted. Don't tease stuff if you don't have the stones to follow through with at least one entry in a series that will obviously get more sequels.
Might be the only time I've disagreed with a PushSquare review so much it makes me call into question whether I should keep holding this website's (one of the only 3 I trust) reviews in such high regard that I recommend it them to people on the fence about certain games. TFD is definitely not perfect, but a 3/10 is beyond ridiculous. The game has solid mechanics and to this point, the fun hasn't run out yet. Don't really know what more one could want from a looter shooter. The story could be better, but, I could say that about thousands of games that were scored much higher.
I think I know the reason it got the score it did, but I won't go there because it's a talking point that always devolves into childish name calling.
Not surprised. I know plenty of people who love sports games that desperately wanted EA's college football games to return. Chances are, it will end up like Madden, though. Sell well, people will be hyped at first, then hate it a month or two later. In general, EA games, outside of the Star Wars Jedi series, have been trash for a very long time now.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Stellar Blade are both great games, deserving of top 4 status. I put Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Tekken 8 ahead of them, however.
It has a lot of nonsense that typically comes with free-to-play games and it's not close to perfect but 3/10 is beyond ridiculous. One of the very rare times I vehemently disagree with PushSquare.
I voted for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth but Tekken 8 is right there with it. Stellar Blade, FF VII Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin take the next 3 spots. All good games as well.
Played about 4 or 5 hours on Xbox yesterday. It seems fun but we'll see how it plays out long term. These free-to-play games usually run out of steam quickly.
I'm looking forward to the game but it sounds like it's going to be filled with the same bs currently plaguing even the best fighting games, especially overpriced DLC.
Monster Hunter Rise is one of my favorite Switch games and I'll be giving it a play on PS5 now just to see how it compares (probably not many differences other than graphics). Also can't wait to play Daxter again, great platformer that still holds up well for the most part.

Astro Bot will be the main focus. Possibly Stellar Blade but I think the new game is going to take up most of the free time I have.

Mid-90s is a little surprising but not totally out of left field. Rescue Mission did finish at 90 on metacritic.
