@Member_the_game @GrimWillows Wasn't there a lot of talk a while back signalling that companies would likely stop taking the hit on consoles at launch as they are just not seeing the same levels of return as in previous generations.
I could be making it up but I am sure it was heavily hinted that those days where long gone.
Its a case where ofc I would like one to see how much better stuff looks, but the adult in me probably can't square a £800 spend for something thats frivalous.
That said I don't think its to expensive as I can see £700+ being the standard price for both major machines going forward next gen as companies simply can't provide the quality gamers (4k 60fps full RT) on a £450 budget.
In last weeks DF weekly they did touch on it by saying that they think that solid 30 is fine and realistic for consoles for most game, but it seems that the gamer hive mind expects the best a a budget price.
Expanded universe 7 probably takes the top spot, but I think the film and improved visuals of cloud / Sephiroth in future games do a lot of heavy lifting that the original game just could not capture.
Does everyone need to buy a pro? No Is Sony saying you must? No
Its a enthusiast product in the same family for those who have the disposable income and want to have the latest version, so I really do not get this whole "Its not needed" nonsense. The exact same as people swapping the latest phone to the promax+++ version every 6 months.
Unsure if I will buy one myself, but don't see any reason why its a negative thing for those who do want it.
FF8 was a very good game and I still remember being ultra hyped fro it from the constant adverts on TV. The visuals also felt greatly improved form 7 and I really liked the setting of the campus and then going out into the greater world with modern cities etc. Also the sheer amount of GFs you could collect was fantastic even tho they did Ramuh dirty in favour of a boring bird shaped thing.
@The_Wailing_Doom Marvel as an IP if is a great example of this comment about fostered IP's. The marvel games will sell, its an IP which will pretty much always do well. Compare that to Ratchet and Clank and you can see exactly why Insomniac is currently a Marvel machine.
They have loads of IP's they just let then die off during PS3 and PS4 era so bringing them back now is an uphill battle. A lot of the older ones are not instantly recognisable in the current market and trying to sell a game by relying on those IP's would not work in todays market. Socom, Killzone, Syphon Filter are often brought up as shooter IP's but the name has no real pedigree in recent gens, so would not selll just on name alone which is what they really mean by a fostered IP.
And with other actually fostered IP's its not just about using them but getting the studios on board to want to make the games also. I would love to see Bloodborne 2 one day but only if its FS with Miyazaki at the helm. And I can't see that happening for a while when they are dropping bombs like Elden Ring instead. The the like of Uncharted need a rest untill they have a great story to tell and not just Uncharted 6: Daughter Drakes Big Day Out.
Personally I reckon Medieveil and Resistance would be fairly safe bets to start with and as an outside punt I reckon they could do well with White Knight Chronicles if they can just come up with a good game.
@Arxagelos I was not aware of the article, but was commenting on the DF direct from youtube. It still seems meangless to me tho because in type Rich says they have heard this, but on video says no one knows, and when the other comentator says they don't believe the secret deal exists also stays quiet and never mentions that they have had it confirmed
So clearly not that credible a source. Its all just Trust me bro
@Arxagelos if thats the case then why did DF not state that in their weekly direct. What they have said in that is as follows
1. They don't believe the game would work well on the SS unless it was heavily stripped back, and it seems like gamescience are not keen on lowering it that much.
2. The game is UE5.0 and that platform generally works better on PS5 regardless of the game, but does impact how easy it is to get running on SX / SS
3. Both MS and Sony have assisted in getting the game to console, with no mention of exclusivity what so ever.
4. Why Sony allowed the game to launch with the bugs, frame gen and weird settings like performance mode being 45 and no vrr.
At best if you really reach you can say Sony accepted the game to launch with issues so they got the benefit of having it one their console.
However none of that is them saying they know of a secret deal
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah thats essentially my thoughts, They have taken action which has resulted in them having exclusivity, but its not an exclusivity agreement.
Its why I think they are better just staying quiet and not commenting because nothing will sway the fanbois or reporters with an axe to grind, all they would do is provide them with another statement to twist the narrative further.
@UltimateOtaku91 Its the new age of exclusivity where you pay but are not allowed to market the game at all as an exclusive but the competition is allowed to market it as coming soon.
@Max_the_German I still reckon it all boils down to Sony likely assisted in order to get the game out. Its not a true exclusivity deal, but essentially functions as one. However in no way do I think thats shady or scummy, its just supporting your product and by all accounts, not just from this game, its something MS need to get a lot better at.
@riceNpea I remember when I convinced my dad to buy a 5 3/4 drive out of the Quids In section of the paper and the guy selling it gave us about 100 discs. Including multiple of extremelly pixelated C64 porn...(not so) innocent times
@riceNpea I use to use John Menzies newsagents for my cassette games on C64. Its mad thinking back how it used to where they would have a single box out and the sleeve just listed all the machines the game was on. No rivalry just good times playing Dizzy games.
@kungfumongoose As I have said many times I honestly still can't tell if the SS was a mistake or not. It has clearly caused them issues, but on the other hand its sold the lions share of the series console. As much as I personally think its caused them issues I do wonder how bad the sales could have been had they only done the SX.
The Grendels Head like like the type of pub that would serve proper ale, and thats something I can fully get behind. Being from the UK games like this and Everyones gone to the Rapture that capture that Village in the lakes vibe always appeal for nostalgia reasons.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Yup cleverly chosen words and I can see them changing more sub names in future to make the numbers look even better. I am fully expecting the WoW sub to become GPWoW when they need to boost numbers again. Exactly like how when they rolled GP and Live together to make it look like they boosted by a lot when in reality it had dropped.
@x3King84 I agree that the 4th and 5th films should not exist. However I think the issue is less about who plays Indy and more that Indy is just not appealing to the modern youth in ways that Nathan Drake will be. Indy works as a low tech hero in deserts with a old revolver and whip, punching nazis, doing stunts on old bikes etc.
It all works but it was aimed a generation who remembers that stuff and romanticizes it and I don't think you can make him modern and keep the charm that the old films had. Much better to just make good films with modern takes on the charcters like they did with Tomb Raider/ Uncharted.
As for the game if I play it, which is unlikely, I will play it on PC for mouse & KB support since they foolishly made it first person. But it they really want my interest they should just remaster the OG Indiana Jones point and click games to 4k.
@Max_the_German I can see the point with pokemon games only having a portion of the pokemon as it encourages trading. With Armour however it just reminds me of Demon Souls annoyance where a large portion of the best armour sets where Male only. Was much better in future souls games where you could just slap a dress on a males fo the luls or when you needed a certain res.
@LifeGirl I read it as these types of games are not the norm for modern audiences, so maybe they are trying to cover those points. Then MS / Sony still want the cut for it being their store. Then what happens when 5 other manufacturers also bring out their boxes but you get performance disparity leading to complaints etc
its a nice idea, i Just don't see it happening long term.
@__jamiie Whilst it would be a game changer I just can't see it happening. If you get to the point where the XBOX is just a generic PC then why even have an XBOX at all, and why would Steam even want their storefront on there when they could just go for steamdeck 2 with a docking station.
Also its less about a system being tied to a singular ecosystem and more about a system thats easy for parents to understand when buying for kids. Playstation succeeds becuase every parent understands what it is, and microsoft still have not cracked that message yet, and the message would get harder when you make it a multistore PC.
@__jamiie I would say at least two because I just don't see this big push to streaming only happening any time soon, due to technology and consumer pushback. The constant sub price increases are highlighting that they are not as sustainable as people want to believe and a sub only console would have you paying through the roof for games at an ever diminishing quality.
I went with okay as it was just average. Its concerning when the most interesting trailer was for a TV series at a games show.
EDIT: I forgot about the POE II trailer which is shaping up to be a good game for a team that clearly cares a lot and will likely once again overshadow blizzards efforts with Diablo.
@breakneck They state it in the first paragraph thats it was a PC code, if people are to lazy to get to 5 lines down then thats on them and not Aaron's reveiew.
I would also say Starfield, I have no interest in it myself but It would make sense to as they can now launch it as an ultimate edition with the DLC's and that improved the game so that they avoid the negative feedback the original launch had.

Personally I love FF13, The paradigm battle system was a great version of turn based with more depth and I didn't even mind the characters. FF13-2 was a bit meh as the time travel stuff just never clicked with me, and I have not played LR as my PS3 died. I would say 13 is no more linear than most other final fantasy games as they only offer the illusion of freedom rather than actual freedom. I went through FF9 again recently and the map is very linear for a large majority of the game. People just remember them being far more openworld than they actually are.
For me the worst game in the series is easily FF12 as the game plays itself due to the gambit system and the world just lacked that spark which made it feel like a FF game.
@The_Wailing_Doom the only reason people parrot the first party line so hard now is because MS went hard with buying publishers and Devs who already had games in the pipeline, so it nicely fits their the narrative. Its right up there along with the other commonly touted line that sony has no exclusives if they come to PC eventually, whilst conveniently ignoring the fact that virtually every Xbox game is on PC day 1.
At this poinr it honestly makes no difference wether a game is made by a first party studio or a 3rd party exlusive for a specific console. The only thing that makes a game exclusive is if its available on the other major consoles or not, and PS stil have plenty of those.
Hopefully it gets back to its roots and is like the first game as it was the most enjoyable overall. The second game lost me a bit with the loot system as it only really added busywork to the game, they also went hard on the rule of three which got obnoxious later on. The third game was just meh overall, the weapon choices should have made for great rapid gameplay but the move to slower combat just didn't work for me at all.
This list is missing Walkabout Mini Golf, Its the perfect game that is made better simply by being in VR and has so much replayability. Its without doubt the most played game i have for the VR2.
@WhiteRabbit I am waiting for my Sony cheque to appear in the post because I bought a PS1, PS2, 2 x PS3's, PS4, PS5 and PSVR2 all of which are cheaper now so I reckon they gotta give me at least £1000 back
Not bored of them yet and I have played most, or have them wishlisted for future plays. I understand they are not everyones cup of tea due to the perceived difficulty but I find that applies to every genre and if anything Souls games are easier that most to me. I tend to find faster paced action games like DMC, GoW harder and the hardest games are any shooters with a pad.
@ParboldCoder I had 3 memory cards fail at Ultimecias Castle and each time it just pushed me to go even harder at the game each time. Must have taken me about 300+ hours to finish FF8 because of that.
@naruball I get that its everyone has different priorities but it does always gets me. People will happily pay over £1000 for the last Apple Pro max which does the exact same thing as the old one. and in some cases they will do it yearly just to make calls on the latest version. But £500 for a console every 7 years is a ridiculous price.
@Odium Defiance finished the story in the best way possible as it solved that arc but let the series open for future games that sadly never got traction.
@Shinnok789 A remake would be amazing if they start right from the beginning again as you have to play Blood Omen first to understand why the world is broken and the impossible choice that Kain was given which starts everything that follows. The only change I would make is remove the choice from the ending of Blood Omen so if follows the canon choice he actually made.
That said if they did remake then they better reuse the audio files for Tony Jay and not recast.
I reckon it will be this year, but if not then I think it will just be held back and turn into the PS6 instead if MS are looking at a shorter generation given how the series consoles are losing steam.
As for people feeling its not needed I would put it in the same category as mobile phones, their is no requirement at all for yearly upgrades to the newest model. But if the market is there and people want to have the newst version then I don't see an issue, its just more choice for the consumer.

Re: 25 Years Ago, Square Released the Best Final Fantasy Game
I would say the main line series ranks something like this for myself (excluded the mmo's). I rate them all highly but something has to be last.
14 - FF2
13 - FF5
12 - FF12
11 - FF4
10 - FF1
9 - FF3
8 - FF6
7 - FF7
6 - FF16
5 - FF13
4 - FF15
3 - FF9
2 - FF8
1 - FF10
Expanded universe 7 probably takes the top spot, but I think the film and improved visuals of cloud / Sephiroth in future games do a lot of heavy lifting that the original game just could not capture.

I understand they are not everyones cup of tea due to the perceived difficulty but I find that applies to every genre and if anything Souls games are easier that most to me. I tend to find faster paced action games like DMC, GoW harder and the hardest games are any shooters with a pad.
Re: Rumour: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks Ahead of Imminent Reveal
@ParboldCoder I had 3 memory cards fail at Ultimecias Castle and each time it just pushed me to go even harder at the game each time. Must have taken me about 300+ hours to finish FF8 because of that.
Re: Deals: PSVR2 Price Gets a Hefty Cut at Numerous UK Retailers
@naruball I get that its everyone has different priorities but it does always gets me. People will happily pay over £1000 for the last Apple Pro max which does the exact same thing as the old one. and in some cases they will do it yearly just to make calls on the latest version. But £500 for a console every 7 years is a ridiculous price.
Re: Rumour: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks Ahead of Imminent Reveal
Re: Rumour: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks Ahead of Imminent Reveal
If its just a remaster they should really do all of them at once or in order for the story
Re: Rumour: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Leaks Ahead of Imminent Reveal
Soul Reaver was excellent but Blood Omen was the best
Re: Armored Core 6 Crashes Through 3 Million Sales as First Anniversary Approaches
@WhiteRabbit or FF16 selling 3 million in the opening week and somehow thats a cataclysmic failure
Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year
I reckon it will be this year, but if not then I think it will just be held back and turn into the PS6 instead if MS are looking at a shorter generation given how the series consoles are losing steam.
As for people feeling its not needed I would put it in the same category as mobile phones, their is no requirement at all for yearly upgrades to the newest model. But if the market is there and people want to have the newst version then I don't see an issue, its just more choice for the consumer.
Re: Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn Sets the Scene in PS5, PS4 Story Trailer
Looks interesting but the visuals are not really clicking for me, probably one I will wait on.
