So much wasted discourse over a Garbage game. Just pass this one by. The ones mad about it being stupid and the ones pretending it's not that bad are equally missing the point:
Yet another IP forced into a throw away story live service looter shooter in the name of greed. That alone makes it *****. If anything we should all be hoping that Sony is taking notes after Redfall and now this...
I would be shocked if a garbage overlord like wb games doesn't completely gut Rocksteady after this bombs further. Although I get much of their core talent jumped ship when greed directed them into live service shooter territory.
To have such negative discourse pre release, they should have made sure and then made sure again that bugs of this magnitude were squashed before the public got their hands on this turd.
@MrMagic addmitedly having a career dealing with environmental issues stokes that fire a bit more than most.
However so does over three years of Sony ghosting it's fan base in favor of forcing it's core into doomed to fail live service projects, greenlightimg more recycled content releases, and 'forget about them in a week' bloated budget sequels that barely differiate themselves from one one another or their predecessors. I think it's important to voice your dissatisfaction with current pushes in a medium you love.
Optomism is great, but 3 years in, it starts become a self defeating prophecy of letdown in terms of present day Sony.
I respect your desire to remain hopeful or perhaps you are happy with the current state. That's great, genuinely happy for you
Considering the visuals on offer here, this is pretty disappointing.if this had demon souls remake or hfw level fidelity I'd get it, but it looks like a decent Ps4 game.
Lmfao if the state of play is peddling a live service game or even headlined with the walking simulator game part 2, it will be a huge L for me.
Truly hope they have more in the works to show than the couple of third party games we already know about, live service failures to come, remasterakes, and boring sequels.
@twitchtvpat I don't disagree that in some circumstances bloat exists. My issue is with the entirety of the system as a whole. It's far more complex and standardized and greed driven to just chalk it up to corporate buzz words like bloat and redundancies.
Its the climate that this practice is common practice and condoned by the brainwashed masses that is the bigger problem here. The fact that a company can hire people in times of need then fire them when things slow down all the while breaking profit records is insanity. Even more absurd is a company making major acquisitions at the behest of the top echelons of the companies, without any power or input from those affected that actually make the company run is also insanity.
In this specific case, the absurdity to acquire activision blizzard for 69 billion dollars, then achieve a market value of 3 trillion dollars, then the following day fire 2000 employees in the name of redundancies and accept this as just business , then I don't know man. It's a level of dissociation with empathy that i can't understand.
Yet I do fully comprehend that given the history and continued trajectory of our species. a great deal adopts or at the very least are conditioned to believe such a level of dissociation and predation is normal.
If this was really about trimming fat, and eliminating redundancies the focus would be on the massive executive level pay/bonus structure that make far more a dent in the bottom line compared to even the 2000 employees losing their livelihood. In all reality losing that livelihood so that the top can continue living in glut.
No one is saying that the company feels one way or another about doing this, I think that and who ultimately ends up being the first on the chopping block is the problem. I do not believe it's often redundancies and instead reasonings far shallower: Earnings projections amidst the fallacy that is the endless growth model.
cute, but seeing as you make games, can we get a date for something new and not recycled out of your camp ND? Hell, even just a teaser trailer or a paragraph description would suffice at this point.
Pretty sad to see all the time and money to litigate and finance acquisitions only to leave nearly 2k people jobless. Corporatocracy at its finest. As much as the hive mind may make this some talking point for console war garbage, Sony has been no better. It's just all around a shame.
The gaming sector is kind of going to ***** in terms of its work culture.
Oh fun fact: Microsoft as a whole was just valued as having a 3 trillion dollar market value for the first time ever and is now only the second company to ever do so....
I do wonder if these layoffs correspond with an undisclosed intention to replace a great deal of hand crafted development with AI implementation.
Aside from the obvious layoffs as a result of poorly received release: If you look at the timing of these massive layoffs coming off some of the most successful and profitable times in gaming the last few years, it does feel as if this is less about the bs reasonings given and more about the endless growth model and aggressive ways to keep that line moving north. AI is an easy way to cutout massive dev costs.
AI may great for cost but Terrible for talented game designers, creativity, and game quality going forward. Sadly, the typical upper corporate tier or shareholder sociopath only cares about the former. This and making many dev positions contract gigs just sucks.
@Benjiro you aren't alone. It's a very divisive game. You either like it or strongly dislike it. I am of the same opinion as you. Was a very boring game. Felt like the product of a man that hubris has poisoned.
It's a bummer that a game that in my opinion is mundane, safe, iterative and a bloated budget sequel like spiderman 2 is way up there and Alan Wake 2 not there at all. As I would rather have more games like the latter get recognition and more creative content like it released; than more played out aging game design sequels and recycled content releases. I get it though, Sometimes the hive mind just wants more of the same "crowd pleasers," despite them getting pretty stale.
I truly hope Sony rights the course and greenlights something interesting again rather than waste so much money and time into churning out these sequels. I'd much rather have diversity of games and passion projects from their talent than sequel/remasterake assembly line output. Maybe that's just me though.
Nice that they went into a better deep dive. Looks more fleshed out than i expected. I just don't have people I play online with anymore. That died with the after dominating in the Socom series died.
The evidence of the generative Ai theft is pretty damning. Some models with near identical mathematical proportions to Pokémon assets.
The sales for this are impressive for sure for such a cheese ball game, but then again there is fortnite, Pokémon itself, cod, genshin, and much more that is just as lame and hugely popular with many. So it clearly appeals to some.
Hope they lose all steam and this game gets crushed if they really used AI to create the assets based on assets of other ips. It sets another disturbing precedent for the future of media with AI being used so recklessly.
What's most stupid though is ripping off that garbage anyways. It sounds like they have a fun game loop to some and they really didn't need to do what they did. It's ultimately just more a sign of laziness and the greed driven design shortcuts that AI allows. We are in a world now where you can AI generate environments, characters, models, other assets, and now even voice acting. It's lame and will result in games that are charging you full price for games that ultimately take a fraction of paid employee power to generate. F AI.
Pretty disgusting progression of predatory content gating here....
You just have to stop buying these games period. This, persona, even the Sony studios cash grabs. Just stop. No matter your Fandom for it. It's the only way it will change. The alternative is just more and more cut content from the original base game design, in order to sell it to you for an additional premium.
@InsaneWade I think you misunderstand why many roll their eyes with a release like this. ND haven't had an original idea in over a decade or put out new content in 4 years (which is fine in terms of longer dev times) . Yet in that time they have cashed in on recycled content now three times. Alongside all of that ND put years of dev time into a now failed live service scheme.
It's that simple. You can excuse make for ND all you want, but one is downright delusional if they think the above hasn't greatly affected the timeline of new projects. It's one thing to release a smaller project to add revenue during longer dev cycles. But 3 in 4 years?! Come the F on...
This whole trend of cashing in on these retread is just getting old. Even the good ones just feels meh. Those good ones take years to develop what are ultimately just better looking and playing versions of that which many have already played. These are More than just cash grabs. They are sucking the life out of a medium that once had a great diversity of games and ideas.
Now we get this every increasing assembly line of overtly safe and iterative sequels and remasterakes.
Hope they put out some sort of actual dive into the structure of this one. Weeks away from release and we have seen literally nothing of it aside from micro clips of shooting stuff stitched together into a trailer.
@ijulianvel never said they were obligated to do anything one way or the other. I merely commented with my opinions on why the consternation mentioned in the article surrounding these releases may exist. It's Not a conversation that is unique to ND either. There are many that are very tired with the growing trend of rereleasing content to widen the potential profit margin.
With 3 recycled content releases in the last 42 months, it really isn't hard to see why some would be disappointed by that even if you aren't right?
Pretty simple: you haven't had an original idea in over a decade or put out new content in 4 years (which is fine in terms of longer dev times) . Yet in that time you have cashed in on recycled content now three times. Alongside all of that ND put years of dev time into a now failed live service scheme.

It's becoming somewhat clearer this is all part of a larger recycled content cash grab business plan from Sony studios as is a trend in the industry as a whole.
@DennisReynolds They really are starting to sound like the Elon Musk of the gaming world. Slowing moving closer to The likes of EA, Activision, and that idiot that was running Unity up until a short time ago.
They seem to have nothing meaningful to say in terms of gaming, in favor of strategizing the best formula to satiate the greed driven shareholders.
I have to agree that a demo or beta would have been really helpful with this one. All we've seen of this are small cuts of shooting stuffs. That's it. Tough sell vaguely knowing the type of game it is. such a weird choice how they marketed this one.
Had it pushed out a demo, beta, or hell even late previews many more likely wouldn't be waiting to see blindly. As now, if it does review as OK or good, many won't even give it a try having not had the chance to taste whether or not OK or good turns out to be a blast for them.
Remakes of these games with some of the great temples and locations would be so awesome. Played the hell out of the first 3 back in the day. No interest in playing this 'grand theft auto collection' level of remaster though.
I'd rather hold the nostalgia and wonder I had playing these in memory rather than pretend they will hold up today with a bare bones "remaster," considering the original tomb raider released 28 years ago....
Yah know, even with the smaller cash grab price, I just can't give ND/Sony any more money for these recycled content releases. Even with the tacked on rogue mode. Especially With the visual upgrade mainly amounting to a very modest resolution bump and that's basically it (comparisons have confirmed that).
I just can't condone this trend. Although I acknowledge that I've felt the rogue modes/games have grown played out and stale for some time now due to oversaturation. so I understand I'm biased in seeing that as added value. However for those that still do like these modes, it does sound like a meaty chunk for $10. Absolute hell no at $50.
No way that this mode and the GOW rogue mode coming out nearly at the same time is a coincidence. Obvious fallout from the live service push crumbling internally. Hell, in this one, you literally open a repurposed loot box between runs at a hub area... 🤣
Looking forward to some actual new content from ND and Sony for that matter that isn't just another sequel, whenever that actually happens. Cheers to those who enjoy replaying it. Here's your one announced PS studious release for the year!
This is gonna be a rough year for Rocksteady if they survive it at all. As well as yet another example of a high profile studio being forced into the live service model and it failing hard.
It's not surprising from WB, although hogwarts should have shown success can lay in other quality designed sp endeavors. However, Sony should really have read the writing on the wall in terms of the sentiment this trend has garnered in recent years. live service is not a predatory scheme that can be slapped onto any ip, nor will you convert enough new addicts into these traps using the once revered Fandom of talented studios. The willingness to risk damage done to the studio and/or IP is such a shame and example of the blind trajectory greed compels.
I feel bad for Rocksteady, but I genuinely want all games that adopt these additional predatory greed driven revenue siphoning schemes in their games to fail.
@ps5gamer Not entirely understanding what you are saying here. Or perhaps you may be misunderstand why I am not particularly interested in this game. It's not about price, quality, or big budget versus less so or anything liek that.
It's that I feel like there is an oversaturation of Metroidvanias being put out. Both in the Indie space, and now with accompanying big publishers and devs. I've played far too many of them in the last 2-3 years. To the extent that no matter how fun a new one may be, it will be less so for me primarily because they all utilize mostly the same mechanics and designs, just with different art styles and stories and for now those mechanics have grown a bit tedious for me.
So, I will wait on this game to pay it when the value based on the metroidvania design matches what I personally feel is fair. I would feel the same way if this was unanimously a 10/10 level game.
I just straight up do not agree with the idea that it's better for a platform and its developers to just not say anything about their games up until a year or less before release. It's never really been like that, and I actually like the little hyped-up teaser trailers that progress into a bigger trailer that then progress into gameplay clips and then onto a hyped and informed release. it builds excitement for sure, but it also creates a knowledge base of what's to come. you would not have all of these people rightfully bashing Sony if we knew games were on the horizon that weren't just live service trash. Hell, most of those aren't even named.
It's really getting old to see more and more hardware releases, controllers, slim consoles, lame faceplates being pushed, clearly cashing in due to the strong console sales. Yet, a complete radio silence on meaningful game announcements or any PR aside from shareholder meeting info regarding an ill-fated live service game focus.
Sony could really drop the ball this year if they maintain the same ghosting policy. Xbox has a showcase coming up with three hotly anticipated games that were at least friggin announced years ago now....... (hell blade, Indiana Jones, and avowed). I'd much rather have announcements that were still years away from release rather than nearly 3 years of nothing. zero announcements, zero PR, for anything other than third party releases. Even if they really Fed up and perhaps have some inner turmoil going on amongst studios because of their greed driven live service push, say something.
Even if projects are further out because of it, some form of roadmap is better than no roadmap.
Great review!
The backtracking issue was a highlight amongst many during previews as well. This aspect of the metroidvania formula, along with the over saturation of these titles in the last 5 years makes This a wait for PS plus or at the very least waiting for the 3 months later down the line guaranteed Ubisoft discount for me.
Kudos to Ubisoft for at least putting out something other than AC and Far Cry clones, as well as not implementing a late review embargo alongside putting out a Demo!
Such bizarre takes here. This gets called derivative and boring; Yet when Sony puts out literally another copy and paste 3rd person sequel if even that and not just a remaster, everyone calls them masterpieces. All the while calling for something new a week later. Yet when something new comes along with a seemingly unique story and accompanying gameplay mechanics, it's written off before release and a fair shot as bargain bin fodder? I think it looks very cool thus far and that was a banger of a trailer with great accompanying music to fit it (don't get me started on the new trend peddling to the fodder out there where no matter the game or setting of the game they release a trailer with some garbage hip hop track playing through it.).
I'm definitely interested in this and hope it turns out well. Far more interested than the slate of recycled content on the horizon: Dragons Dogma clone, FF7, TLOU2, another dated team ninja clone, another round of persona rereleases, etc.
@gymratAmarillo ahhhhhhhh gotcha that explains it. I was just thinking maybe it was friendly. Thanks again! Really does sound like the perfect game to invest in being a day and date ps plus release. Seems like a missed opportunity to justify those sub price hikes. Either way hopefully it turns out fun good and fun for those that like that genre of game.
@gymratAmarillo ahhhh gotcha. That makes sense so it's a Co op horde type game?
Could have swore in one of the highly clipped clips I saw players shooting each other but with all the shooting effects going on it could have been a trick of perspective.
Yah these have been largely disappointing for over 2 years now, amounting to Glorified marketing contract fulfillments. Sony needs a big change in PR on the software front. Hardware sales will only remain strong for so long with a growing concern with their software strategy.
Sony could really drop the ball this year if they maintain the same ghosting policy. Xbox has a showcase coming up with three hotly anticipated games that were at least friggin announced years ago now....... (hell blade, Indiana Jones, and avowed).
I just straight up do not agree with the idea that it's better for a platform and its developers to just not say anything about their games up until a year or less before release. I'd much rather have announcements that were still years away from release rather than nearly 3 years of nothing. zero announcements, zero PR, for anything other than third party releases.
I guess I just don't understand what this game is. Every "gameplay trailer", has been nothing more than a highly cut/edited montage of third person shooting stuff on barren looking planets and the occasional starship troopers copped humor quip.
Is it just another Co op looter shooter? Is it a rogue like? Is it procedurally generated garbo? Or is it a story driven game with an encouraged Co op option? Or is this a multi-player pvp/pve squad shooter? Also, is whatever this is, the same as the first one was, with a different viewpoint?

Re: Big List of Tomb Raider Remastered PS5, PS4 Upgrades Revealed
Remakes of these games with some of the great temples and locations would be so awesome. Played the hell out of the first 3 back in the day. No interest in playing this 'grand theft auto collection' level of remaster though.
I'd rather hold the nostalgia and wonder I had playing these in memory rather than pretend they will hold up today with a bare bones "remaster," considering the original tomb raider released 28 years ago....
Re: The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered (PS5) - A Near Perfect Package for New and Returning Fans

What a terrible trailer
Re: Rocksteady Lifts Suicide Squad Alpha NDA in Apparent Bid to Counter Damning Previews
Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5) - A Slick, Satisfying, and Royally Robust Metroidvania
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want from Sony and PlayStation in 2024?
Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5) - A Slick, Satisfying, and Royally Robust Metroidvania
@KonstantTrouble in the review he mentions 20-30 hrs. I do wonder how much of that is spent backtracking though.
? @Quintumply
Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5) - A Slick, Satisfying, and Royally Robust Metroidvania
Re: Latest Banishers PS5 Trailer All About Love, Death, and Sacrifice
Re: Granblue Fantasy: Relink Showcase Has Loads of New PS5 Gameplay, Including an Endgame Battle
@JB_Whiting it was significantly downgraded visually for sure.

@NoHope Hell yes to a return of Socom. Man I loved those games and the clan community.

Actual communication would be a very small start.
Re: Helldivers 2 Confirms PS5, PC Crossplay with Inspirational Gameplay Trailer
@gymratAmarillo ahhhhhhhh gotcha that explains it. I was just thinking maybe it was friendly. Thanks again! Really does sound like the perfect game to invest in being a day and date ps plus release. Seems like a missed opportunity to justify those sub price hikes. Either way hopefully it turns out fun good and fun for those that like that genre of game.
Re: Helldivers 2 Confirms PS5, PC Crossplay with Inspirational Gameplay Trailer
@gymratAmarillo ahhhh gotcha. That makes sense so it's a Co op horde type game?
Could have swore in one of the highly clipped clips I saw players shooting each other but with all the shooting effects going on it could have been a trick of perspective.
Thanks for the info
Re: Sounds Like Sony's Next State of Play Livestream Isn't Far Away
Yah these have been largely disappointing for over 2 years now, amounting to Glorified marketing contract fulfillments. Sony needs a big change in PR on the software front. Hardware sales will only remain strong for so long with a growing concern with their software strategy.
Sony could really drop the ball this year if they maintain the same ghosting policy. Xbox has a showcase coming up with three hotly anticipated games that were at least friggin announced years ago now....... (hell blade, Indiana Jones, and avowed).

Re: Helldivers 2 Confirms PS5, PC Crossplay with Inspirational Gameplay Trailer
I guess I just don't understand what this game is. Every "gameplay trailer", has been nothing more than a highly cut/edited montage of third person shooting stuff on barren looking planets and the occasional starship troopers copped humor quip.
Is it just another Co op looter shooter? Is it a rogue like? Is it procedurally generated garbo? Or is it a story driven game with an encouraged Co op option? Or is this a multi-player pvp/pve squad shooter? Also, is whatever this is, the same as the first one was, with a different viewpoint?
