@Professor_Niggle Where did they say frame generation would be impossible? Just over a week ago they specifically acknowledged the possibility of using frame generation for GTA6; they just said it would be unlikely to transform a 30fps game to a 60fps one.
"Frame generation techniques could even be used to make those 60fps modes present nicely on 120Hz displays (sorry, but 30fps to 60fps is unlikely, owing to latency and artefacting challenges)."
From what I understand, the performance is due to demands on the CPU because the game is constantly running physics and AI calculations on all NPCs across quite a large area. So the thing that would improve performance would be CPU-based (e.g. on PC upgrading your CPU would be more effective than upgrading your GPU for this game.) Raytracing is a GPU process and so isn't really contributing to this issue. If this game is pushing the PS5's GPU as well, then turning off raytracing could help slightly.
That said, a lot of people have said turning on raytracing helped performance on their PC. As someone said, using words I don't understand, it "frees up rasterization performance as the Ray Tracing is done entirely on the CUDA cores."
The tutorial notification isn't necessarily when you have a dragonsplague pawn. It seems to happen after so many hires, or maybe in-game days. Of course, it could coincidentally pop up the time you hire one.
@rpg2000 Those aren't sales they're people actively playing the game. You can typically only get a refund if you've played for 2 hours or less. So I just checked again and DD2 now has over 180,000 playing as we speak despite this backlash. Surely it would have plummeted from what I posted earlier but it's gone up from the 170,000 that were playing hours ago when I posted my previous post. Meanwhile HFW's concurrent player count (playing right now) has dropped by 7000 from earlier to just over 19,000.
I just want to make it clear that I'm not saying this to crap on HFW but just to say a game with great performance and no MTX is doing WAY worse than a game where apparently everyone is annoyed at the bad performance and MTX. Just makes the backlash seem a lot smaller than implied.
@dark_knightmare2 As far as I know - but it's seen as worse if they aren't day one since if they add it after most people have bought it rather than being up front about it. Capcom even told reviewers the game would have microtransactions.
@AdamNovice See, this is why this is being blown out of proportion. Despite the noise about how bad this is, and despite HFW not having microtransactions, the 24 hour peak player count for HFW is 26,697 whereas for DD2 it's 200,175 with about 170,000 playing now. People in general can't be that affected by the presence or lack of microtransactions or those figures would be reversed.
@dark_knightmare2 The original DD did this and it wasn't held against it. Every Tales of game for many years has had things like buyable currency, level ups, more item space etc and it doesn't seem to cause backlash. RE4 had a thing where you could pay to make your weapons better. In thousands of cases games do this and there's no massive backlash, just some scattered grumbling at worst. Most of this DD2 backlash has been whipped up by streamers and YouTubers, many of whom have claimed there's no way to re-customise your character without paying.
That's ridiculous. You could take anything about people living in a home and say it's The Sims. Frasier is The Sims, Eastenders is The Sims, Spaced is The Sims.
"A true successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi games" That's because the Budokai Tenkaichi games are the Sparking games - they were renamed to Budokai Tenkaichi in the West due to Budokai 1-3's success. It's the same thing as with Yakuza and Like A Dragon.
Well they definitely captured that stilted MCU dialogue style. It does look great though, it's a shame more current gen games haven't used UE5. Rebirth definitely should have instead of UE4.
The Ace Attorney games are some of my favourite of all time, so if you love story-based games and somehow haven't played them, check them out. Though they were/are on sale for £8 for the original trilogy so it's not great as a Premium offering. As for Extra, I never quite wanted RE3 enough to buy it but I may well try it now.
@TrickyDicky99 Well he means you've bought it. With physical you won't have it in your hands, back at home, for either 1-2 days if you buy online, or perhaps a few hours if you buy in person. Right now it's late at night here. I could be paying Prince of Persia in probably 90 minutes. Or I could wait until the day after tomorrow if I order online. Or I could wait hours until tomorrow and then spend a couple of hours going out of my way to buy it in person.
I remember being in the Academy in Birmingham (a night club) and they had consoles (360s?) in protective cabinets with Top Spin on. I beat my friend one-handed while drinking a pint. 😂 The only sports games I've ever liked enough to get good at. So even though I'm not a sporty person, I'm really looking forward to this.
@GamingFan4Lyf Well this pretty standard in western RPGs. In the Baldur's Gate trilogy, in Elder Scrolls, in Fallout, in Arcanum, it's been a while but I think in the Might and Magic, and Wizardry series. True, typically when they become more mainstream they tend to put in some invincible critical NPCs so you can't completely mess things up, but I'm sure DD2 will have protected critical NPCs too.
"The action then cuts back to Cloud at the Gold Saucer, who's woken up a few hours later by a knock at the door. It's Tifa checking up on him, who wants Cloud to accompany her on a look around the amusement park."
This is actually determined by which girl you have the highest affection with. However, it seems if you have your strongest bond with a male character it's different. Annoyingly, I had Red XIII and he was seen walking away from my room but didn't accompany me. At the Battle Square he was chilling out and would help me in the battles but that was it.
@Krydle Yeah, well it took the original FFVII something like 23 years to sell 12 million and that was across PS1, the original PC release just after the PS1 version, then later digital versions across various consoles and Steam.
Digital sales make up more of total sales each year. Rebirth actually reversed the downward trend; in the first week, XV sold the best out of the PS4 era onwards. Remake sold worse than XV, then XVI sold worse than that. Each drop was by a large amount. But then Rebirth sold almost 50% more than XVI. Again, just physical sales in the UK. Digital is meant to account for 90% of the market now (well that was in 2022 and digital's share goes up each year, as I mentioned.)
Point is, even if each game sold equally, physical sales will go down over time. So for a newer game to sell more than a previous one in physical copies - and by quite a lot - is impressive.
@AFCC Just to add to the other reply, when you've got enough synergy points built up from using the ATB abilities (well, the ones that have an icon that kind of looks like the Switch logo) then the option to do the Synergy special moves will appear in the command menu.
@rjejr Is that what it is in the US? Here it's 1250 points for £5, which is $6.33. Could the UK actually be getting a better deal than the US for once? 😲
@RBRTMNZ @Hamst88 I don't mean niche as bad thing. I'm saying it's a game not designed for mass appeal that's significantly more wanted than a game that's meant to be a huge blockbuster. My favourite games are often the games that most people don't play or care about. I'm just saying, imagine if more people pre-ordered Octopath Traveller 3 than the next FIFA. That's a good sign EA have screwed up.
You can see what a mistake it was for Sony to buy Bungie when only 2% of people on a dedicated PS site are most looking forward to getting a Destiny 2 expansion for free, especially when the other games are a fairly bland racing game and two niche indie games.
@Cloud39472 As a big fan of JRPGs I thought I'd love this series. I played Cold Steel 1 and while I did manage to get through it, the characters are incredibly dull. They all talk and think in a very flat and plain way. Almost like they're all Commander Data. "Sorry, I must refuse your invite for an alcoholic beverage, it would contravene several school rules. Quite frankly I'm disappointed in you," says a teenage boy invited for a beer by his hot teacher (paraphrased but genuinely in the same spirit). It'd be okay if he was meant to be autistic or otherwise unique in that way, but they're all like this. You could swap dialogue between characters in most cases and it wouldn't be noticeable.
There's no soul or spark to anyone. The best you can hope for is a single basic anime trope repeated endlessly in lieu of an actual personality, like the blonde guy and black-haired guy that bicker like kids but, to no one's surprise, end up being friends. I got partway through Cold Steel 2 and gave up.
This approach would mean the gambling scenes in Casino Royale would make that film an 18+ whereas currently it's a 12A even though it has people being violently beaten, shot and killed, and James Bond's double-Os being smashed with a knotted rope.
@CD456 Well that's actually the perfect age to have played them in the past. The first one would've come out when you were about 10 (though not in Europe, but still, most people that played the NES ones would be about your age).
Loving it so far. I can't believe it can take you 8 hours or more to go from post-flashback Kalm to the other side of the Mythril mines. It would be about 20 minutes in the original. Really makes the world feel huge and busy with lots of different things and characters.
Loads of RPGs have prostitution, though it's usually WRPGs, admittedly. In Fallout 2 you could even be a pornstar - and get an STD, if I remember correctly.
So if you've already bought a game, it doesn't count for the "buy one of these games" things? Because it's really annoying to see Rebirth on there now when you (and presumably millions of people) pre-ordered it.
@nocdaes It wasn't part of the original plot that Zack is still alive, as shown in the ending. Or that Sephiroth and other characters are aware of future events. Or that Biggs doesn't die. The new events are spoilers too; that's what a spoiler usually is - a new thing that the player hasn't seen yet. So things like Barret being killed but being resurrected by the Whispers should be considered a spoiler.
Also, it's not the plot of if disc 1, it's just the first 5 or 6 hours. Most of disc 1 is Rebirth. After 4 years we're still on disc 1. 😄
@Truegamer79 Games get bigger over time. This isn't even that bad compared to the earlier days of gaming. FFVII was 1.3gb but the original FF was 144kb. That means the original VII was 1,363,148 times larger than the first FF. In that context, if this new trilogy ends up being, say, 400gb in total, that'll be roughly 300 times larger which is nowhere near as bad as being 1.3 million times larger. 😄
@PsBoxSwitchOwner The majority don't. They used to over a decade ago but that's been very rare for ages, hence all these spoiler videos. In slightly less than 48 hours digital players will definitely be playing the game. 99% of physical owners won't, and all to save money equivalent to a pizza. Quote this post when you get the game, with a screenshot, if you get it early.
@puddinggirl I obviously really like it too, but it'll be interesting to hear what you think when you get to certain parts like the area before the 2nd reactor. Some of the game is brutally endless and a real slog - but then the characters and how they interact is amazing. Not to mention the music, atmosphere and art design.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I know what you mean, but at the same time you can start playing exactly as soon as Rebirth comes out with a digital copy. With a physical you have to wait for it to be delivered, then install while the install speed is slowed down by the day 1 patch downloading. You may have most of a day longer to wait. For £15 (less than the price of a meal at my local pub) you get to play right at midnight. If that doesn't matter to you, then obviously saving a few quid is obviously the better choice.
@colonelkilgore Having played both the Yuffie DLC and CC, and knowing a bit about Rebirth from trailers, I'd say CC is actually more relevant. The Yuffie DLC is great but I'm not sure how much will actually matter for Rebirth apart from the odd reference from Yuffie. Both are quite short. You could complete the DLC in a day if you have nothing else on. Crisis Core, without the optional stuff, is like a week of fairly relaxed play (maybe 20 hours at most).
I mean, long story short, if you look at the Rebirth key art you'll see Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth on there, not Yuffie.
@UltimateOtaku91 I bet if they are (the dresses in Remake weren't available permanently) it'll only be in post-game chapter select mode. I can't see them letting us go through all the dramatic scenes like that first time.
"We're still not sold on remasters like Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition and Tales of Symphonia Remastered being part of the most expensive PS Plus tier, but..." To be fair, Tales of Vesperia had never been on Playstation outside of Japan until the remaster and this particular version (with many changes including two extra party members) had never been outside of Japan at all. Symphonia was on PS2, though only in Japan, but then it was also released on PS3 in that double pack with the sequel. Not to mention the remaster is generally seen as a downgrade.
@get2sammyb I would've said the same thing when I only saw the small image but when I enlarged it, I have to say I agree with him. It's the jaw and the brow, I think. Possibly the thick neck too. The shading around the mouth looks like a subtle 5 o'clock shadow too.
This is a real shame. The Suikoden series is one of my favourites and Suikoden 2 had an enormous emotional impact on me. Eiyuden Chronicles is one of my most anticipated games as well. It's sad that he won't see the release of it and the fan reaction to something he's been working on for years.
If you think those performances are good, wait until you hear my original composition. Rotating both analogue sticks in opposite directions never sounded so good.

@UltimateOtaku91 I bet if they are (the dresses in Remake weren't available permanently) it'll only be in post-game chapter select mode. I can't see them letting us go through all the dramatic scenes like that first time.

Meanwhile this tweet has over 4 times the views and will probably shift even more copies. 🤣

Re: New PS5, PS4 Passkey Feature Means You Don't Have to Remember Your Password Anymore
I tried it and it said "a passkey cannot be created for this device". Oh well. I hardly ever have to enter my password anyway.
Re: New PS Plus Extra, Premium Update Makes 13 More Games Available Now
@PALversusNTSC Initially but soon after it was on PS2 in Japan and has since come out on PS3, 4, Windows, Switch, XB1, maybe more.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for February 2024?
"We're still not sold on remasters like Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition and Tales of Symphonia Remastered being part of the most expensive PS Plus tier, but..."
To be fair, Tales of Vesperia had never been on Playstation outside of Japan until the remaster and this particular version (with many changes including two extra party members) had never been outside of Japan at all. Symphonia was on PS2, though only in Japan, but then it was also released on PS3 in that double pack with the sequel. Not to mention the remaster is generally seen as a downgrade.
Re: Looks Like This Is the New Lara Croft in PS5's Next Tomb Raider
@get2sammyb I would've said the same thing when I only saw the small image but when I enlarged it, I have to say I agree with him. It's the jaw and the brow, I think. Possibly the thick neck too. The shading around the mouth looks like a subtle 5 o'clock shadow too.
Re: Legendary Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle Creator Yoshitaka Murayama Has Passed Away
This is a real shame. The Suikoden series is one of my favourites and Suikoden 2 had an enormous emotional impact on me. Eiyuden Chronicles is one of my most anticipated games as well. It's sad that he won't see the release of it and the fan reaction to something he's been working on for years.

Re: PS5 Sales Touch 55 Million As Sony Breaks Records
Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2 will help them sell more than they otherwise would in this period but it's still not looking likely, I agree.
Re: PS5 Goes for the Kill with New Discounts in Europe
It feels more like Xbox killed itself, really. And now Sony is looting the corpse.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Players Go to Town on Tifa's Piano on PS5
If you think those performances are good, wait until you hear my original composition. Rotating both analogue sticks in opposite directions never sounded so good.
