I loved the initial concept and setting of WiLD, and even some of my non-gaming friends were intrigued by it. However, when I started hearing things like the inclusion of procedural generation and that comment about the map being the size of Europe, that decreased my interest exponentially. It's not a surprise this never came together.
Astro Bot being on these lists at all is incredible, especially when the competition is the usual suspects of Call of Duty, sports games, and cultural juggernauts like GTA V and Hogwarts Legacy.
They replaced this thing's directors due to creative differences not long ago, so I believe this will drop in late 2026 at the earliest. At this point, it wouldn't shock me if this got delayed to 2027.
I hate to say it, but I don't see this working out for them at all. This split release was always a very bad idea to me, but the gap between the two now being almost two months sounds like a major self-inflicted wound to Don't Nod.
@get2sammyb It is, but it's such a gigantic waste of their talent and potential, especially Bluepoint. How long will the skilled and creative people stick around if they get permanently relegated to working on other people's stuff? At that point, it begs the question of why did Sony bother acquiring Bluepoint to begin with other than taking them off the board for other companies.
My biggest concern is that Bend and Bluepoint will be permanently assigned to support work for teams like Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica from now on.
@Oram77 I will be astonished if Bend Studio isn't closed. I don't want them to go, but I can't imagine this iteration of PlayStation sinking more money into them for another five-year development cycle after canceling the game they have spent years working on. Days Gone 2 would have been the far smarter move in hindsight.
I never want to hear again from PlayStation sycophants that this live service initiative still needs to be pursued. How many literal billions of wasted dollars, job losses, studio closures, and wasted time and opportunities will it take to convince people that this was a terrible idea at the beginning and is still one now?
I don't have the words right now to describe my disgust at Bluepoint wasting years working on a God of War live service of all things. Not a new entry in an old franchise. Not a remaster of a classic game. No ports of stranded PS3 games. A GOD OF WAR LIVE SERVICE.
What imbecile at PlayStation thought this was a good idea?
I could go on and on about how much of a legend Shuhei Yoshida is. His eye for potential and creative new ideas is almost unmatched in the industry. He's one of the very few video game executives who deeply cares about the art of video games, and his passion is always wonderful to see. PlayStation will absolutely be worse without him.
I like this twist because it adds a game-like element to the story. Without the player making choices, Until Dawn is just another generic horror story. However, I appreciate that they're making what the movie characters will go through feel more like a game by adding a time loop element and setting limits and rules.
I wish I could travel back in time and tell a teenage version of myself there will come a day when Halo and Gears of War on PlayStation seem very plausible. His mind would be blown.
@Can-You-Believe-Sith A major theme of the game is the dismissal of women in various scientific fields at the time. The character you play is a brilliant botanist and you read some rejection letters from organizations that make condescending and dismissive remarks about her pursuing a scientific field rather than being a wife and mother. It sounds preachy, but I thought the theme was massaged very organically into the game. Because you are growing plants for one of her major applications throughout the game, you experience first-hand how brilliant she is and how frustrating it is for your achievements as a player to be dismissed for stupid reasons. Without her ever saying a word, the game does an excellent job of putting you in her headspace through gameplay.
Very good game too btw. It's maybe the best puzzle game I've played in a while.
I met some of the former staff from Annapurna a long time ago and they couldn't have been nicer people. Whatever this next endeavor is, I hope it isn't diluted by some money-burning nepo baby like Megan Ellison.
I despised Before the Storm so much that it turned me off of ever wanting to play a Life is Strange game made by Deck Nine again. This also lacked two elements that made the first game tick for me: the relationship between Max and Chloe and the cozy, melancholic fall atmosphere.
I avoid the marketing for the Like a Dragon games because they spoil way too much, so I won't be tuning into this. I want to go into Pirate Yakuza as blind as possible.
Called it! When I saw this comment a few days ago, my immediate thought was "he's going to get so much crap from ResetEra about this". They're so predictable.
I don't believe him, but I hope this isn't another spin-off of Like a Dragon. Even if it's a crime/yakuza game, I'd prefer if Project Century were a new series entirely.
I can't wait to see how Fairgames, Marathon, and the Horizon multiplayer games perform. These will be fascinating to analyze regardless of the results.
@Thrillho "Minus points also awarded for locking the high XP dungeon behind DLC, making the grind for the top level trophy pretty infuriating without it."
I got the platinum and this was by far the worst part of it. It isn't noticeable if you don't go for the platinum or get a high level in the postgame, but when I realized what Sega did here, it pissed me off. Frustrating the player to strong-arm them into spending more money is unacceptable, especially for a $70 single-player game like this.
I loved this game. Next to 7 and 0, Infinite Wealth is my favorite game in the series. The mad lads at RGG put a better Pokemon game in this than anything Game Freak has pumped out in ages.
I'll step on the landmine: I thought Stellar Blade was way overhyped and mostly mediocre. For what it's worth, I got the platinum and my second playthrough was on the harder difficulty, so I've seen everything the game offers and still found it wanting.
Unless leverage means more quality ports of older games, remasters of PS3 games stuck on that console, and new games in long-neglected franchises, Mr. Hulst can piss off with his "leverage". Shoving Shadow of the Colossus and Sackboy into that god-awful Secret Level PlayStation episode is not the kind of "leverage" I want to see.
A roguelike card game may be the most antithetical thing to my gaming tastes, but Balatro is brilliant. It's a miracle how addicting this game was for me.

This is a shame. I really like Celeste, and TowerFall Ascension is one of my all-time favorites. I hope they rebound with something killer again soon.

Re: Lists of Sony’s Cancelled Live Service PS5 Games Paint a Worrying Picture
Even then, that list is missing two games:

Re: Ex-Witcher Devs' Dark PS5 RPG Dawnwalker Revealed with a Tiny Gameplay Glimpse
@PerpetualBoredom I almost laughed too. It sounds similar to the woman singing after finishing a mission in Witcher 3.
Re: Ex-Witcher Devs' Dark PS5 RPG Dawnwalker Revealed with a Tiny Gameplay Glimpse
It's a cool cinematic, but it apes The Witcher 3's tone, art direction, and music so much that it's almost comical.
