@naruball the issue is that it would need to compromise to run the games and I don't want a series s situation where they starting building to lowest common denominator. If they are going to build a new one then I would say ps4 pro level but then you wouldn't get the latest games unless it streamed. But look at how quickly they would then deactivate the Portal as a device, because they can't have competition within. There is no reason a ps vita or pstv couldn't stream ps5 games but hey they cut that off.
I am happy with ps portal. All I want now is the ability to stream all digital games I own, including ps3, ps4 and ps5 including any dlc I have purchased. Internet getting better all the time and much cheaper option. I don't want to play lower framerates sub 1080. Also Sony is really ***** in the last 20 years at supporting more than one device at a time.
@IssyVeedz thanks for coming back to me. I don't think I can be adding yet another long game to my backlog. Too many similar long games now. I know the quality is there but I just want something quick, exciting and to the point.
Thought it was very good. I don't care about whether games are first party. I just want great games and there was a lot of promising looking games there. The first party games will come. Xbox studio games will come. But having loads of third party games to come and not from the usual suspects. Look at the variety of new games from last year. It's never a better time to be a gamer.
They haven't abandoned it, they have simply renamed it, delayed to next season and keep working on it in the meantime. They make it sound like they have changed focus, but the fact of the matter it's too late in the season to release it
@themcnoisy exactly. I am just at the same point with Outer Worlds. It's classed as a smaller rpg yet I have done main game and frist dlc and I am at 40hrs. I got until 18th before its taken off plus to do second dlc but I think I have had enough. I find myself now constantly going to the how long to beat website to choose next game.
Longest game of recent times has been ac odyssey, still doing the final dlc atlantis and over 200hrs over a year and half amongst other games. Makes me scared to start longer games now like witcher, ac valhala, cyberpunk etc
@Areus using the logic that nearly every project cancelled recently tied to sony are live service games that were in secret development, including shutting down the developers of some, even though their pedigree was in single player experiences, stands to reason that sumo may have been tasked with building a live service mascot game that is now cancelled. Have sony cancelled any single player games on recent years?
@Member_the_game yes we definitely need clarity as it can be read both ways: "As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026"
It doesn't say added, it says offered which means available i think.
So are they going to remove all ps4 games on extra and premium? That's a massive amount of games (that don't have ps5 equivalents). For instance the ps portal has access to ps5 games only, but it's like a quarter of what's on offer overall. That is massive downgrade, especially as many are enhanced on ps5 thanks to horse power.
@Stragen8 this is what infuriated me when they announced vault. I knew they would re release content and make us pay again. I was a massive player up until the vaulted content happened. I either have bought the expansions 2 years later for next to nothing or had it free on plus. I will never give bungie another penny, even though the gameplay is great. I will not support a d3 or marathon.
Haven't played destiny for quite a while but was the dreadnaught part of paid dlc that was then vaulted? If so, is this location returning to all people or just those buying the latest season?
Has it been have story dlc launched previously other than the expansion? Of so is it playable or is it like destiny 2 and unplayable if missed in a season
As soon as I heard turned based that turns me off, it just isn't for me. Equally I won't rubbish the game because of my personal taste and hope everyone who like turn base turn out and get this if it reviews well.
Problem they had was trying to make a full on franchise, instead of focusing on capturing the audience with a decent game. If they made the game more enticing and enriching and focused on marketing the game as a game. Then start to release lore via other media.
I will never buy a dedicated ps handheld again after psvita. Sony just don't support them. Also I don't want a handheld constraining the ps6 if its shared library, this is the equivalent of xbox series s. I am super happy with the Portal, just make it 4k 120 streaming, networks are getting better and better, and it just makes sense to utilise the power of the cloud and ps6
Trying to finish outer worlds before it's taken off ps plus extra as that will no doubt be soon. Also playing jedi survivor, as I bought ea play for a pound yesterday, so got a month to finish that game. I am also playing loup1 on pro.. As well as finishing gta v and started vice city with new patch
Just managed to order a disc drive. Most of the games that are ps5 pro enhanced including this one, I own on disc. I only own 18 discs games (more if you count the ps4 games that instantly upgrade to ps5 version) but own nearly 70 digitally. Therefore this now being one of the day ones has forced my hand into buying the drive ready for day one
Is it playable in offline? I still want to give it a go (I enjoyed arkham knights) If it's not playable offline, it would mean I need to get it QuickTime before it disappeaes
Got one too. Though as it's a pre order, it gives me time to decide if it will be worth to me at launch as we get more info. My biggest issue is that all of the top tier games that are being upgraded, they happen to be the only games that I own on disc. So I have to order the disc drive. However, I am not ordering the disc drive until I am fully committed to following through with the purchase, as I have the original ps5 with disc drive, so a spare drive is of no benefit to me.
This looks like late ps2 / early ps3 game graphics, quite blurry and terrible models and animation. I know gameplay and atmosphere are key, but I think it looks migraine inducing with the way it teleports around and squinting to see what your actually aiming at. I don't think a few more months would benefit this game, as it looks like it requires a complete graphics overall. Never mind the ai of the npcs. That instance where the person was falling of the building and transferred to someone in the small crowd of people, and no one reacted to the body hitting the ground.
I cam totally see why Sony hardware and accessory prices are so high and not subsidised now, they have been hemorrhaging money and cannot not afford it anymore
Just got the lovecraftian bundle for cheap which has ps5 versions of sinking city and sherlock holmes awakened for I think 8 quid. Considering sh awakened is showing as full price on its on
@carlos82 exactly. If they prove later that cam do quality at 60fps then I am straight in there. I am not a pc player nor would I move to pc, but I need that excitement for the next ps machine
The Last of Us Part 2: The clip shown in the presentation operates at the same native 1440p rendering resolution as the performance mode in the standard PS5 game. However, PSSR is used instead of a more basic upscale, giving a presentation comparable with native 4K. Why didn't Naughty Dog increase resolution? Well, PSSR has a computational cost on its own, while various elements such as post-processing are likely running at native 4K resolution.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart: The footage looks to show much the same visual feature set as the existing Performance RT mode. However, internally rendering resolution varies between 1440p and 1800p, with a pass of PSSR to deliver a 4K output.
Alan Wake 2: There isn't much video here, but there are clearly 30fps and 60fps modes, targeting 1260p and 864p respectively. Again, as the footage was easily countable, we're confident this is using PSSR. Screen-space reflections are evident in the 60fps mode, but they are not in 30fps, suggesting RT may be in play.
Gran Turismo 7: Adding quarter res (1080p) ray-traced reflections in gameplay has a hit on GPU performance, so internal resolution drops in the clips seen to 1188p and - again - PSSR upscaling is used for a 4K output.
@carlos82 means you have not sat through the digital foundry podcast. They have received the high rez presentation to properly compare the titles. Literally all of the games you mentioned are upscale versions of the performance modes not the quality modes. I think they look really good but as I have said they will be missing the effects in quality mode
@carlos82 I know that's the point of ps5pro but what I don't think you have understood so far is that all of the games shown, are only showing the ps5 base performance mode with upscale in resolution. That is not quality mode in 60fps. That is my whole point. Why are they not showing the quality mode at 60fps. It gets me worried
@get2sammyb I know that's what was said, but having looked into every game digital foundry has compared, it is the performance modes that have been shown off, still running 60fps but with higher resolutions. The graphic mode clips which have been shown very short bursts, are still 30fps. The base resolutions have also dropped in the games like gt7 for instance, so has gone from 4k to 1200ish and the upscale. That is certainly not what I was expecting of this console. I have been day 1 on pretty much every Sony console, but this I have doubts with. I should add I also buy most accessories (except fancy controllers) like the ps4pro, psvr 1 and 2, the Portal, pstv. So I don't tend to listen to negative vibes from people. It's just this is not exciting me about something new it brings. Even those things I listed above that I have bought were for reason. Pstv was for remote play in another and vita games on tv, vr obviously playing vr, portal playing more time and anywhere in the house. Ps4pro was to upgrade the TV and appreciate the bump on quality plus the added modes due to the checkerboard rendering that was night and day above ps4.
I will probably be as close to first place in line to get a pro. But I would like to pull up Mark Cerny on his 9 minute video. Specifically about people choosing performance mode over graphics quality mode. He stared that with the pro we shouldn't have to choose between performance or quality and that it would be quality mode at 60fps. However, every demo so far has been performance mode that had been up rezzed. My issue is that performance modes, drop out graphics settings like ray tracing and other special effects are reduced, as well a draw distance, foliage and how many npc on screen at once.
I don't want an enhanced 60fps performance mode, I am a console graphics junkie, I want quality mode running super smooth with further graphical enhancements to get near to near high end settings.
It does put doubts in my mind about ordering one. I will probably pre order but if it doesn't improve come week of release I will likely cancel, as chances of selling on for a profit will be next to none.
I own the following ff games but have never actual gotten around to playing them: ff7 original, ff remake (ps4 and ps5), ff13, ff13 pt2, ff13 pt3, ff14, ff15 I bought into the hype of getting then or they were free on ps plus. However, I hate turn based games and I don't actually know how these games play, and it's never clear until you actual start. That's why they keep getting pushed back for games I know I will enjoy. I wouldn't know where to start in my list and I certainly wouldn't buy any more as the games are too long.
