Re: Square Enix's New AAA Games Are Being Trounced by Final Fantasy 14

@C25CLOUD They are cheap to make because Sega are smart to reuse their assets almost completely in cheaper middle games. Pirate in Hawaii or P3 Reload are great examples of this. The same models, world and animations are carried forward with minor updates.

Each Final Fantasy is a story of excess. High budgets, new graphics, new systems, 300 new/remixed tracks. It is outright silly. Did Rebirth need 15-20 mini games for every little thing, did they need to add the entire Shinra plotline to make an existing story more confusing and convoluted?
Did FFXVI need all that empty space in between areas or a gear mechanic that was so simple it didn't need to exist at the cost of focusing on the story's pacing?

TBF they've not made any genuinely amazing AAA single player games in a while. FF7 Rebirth was disappointing, FFXVI had a bad narrative, dull characters and a simplistic combat system in a bland world. Forspoken was undercooked and had bad writing.

Also, All these games were too expensive for the franchise they belong to. Look at Sega who are ecstatic with a million sales because their games are cheap as hell to make.

Re: Australia's Planned Social Media Ban to Include PSN

I get where they're coming from but this seems extreme and poorly thought out. Whether we like it or not social media has become a fundamental part of peoples lives now.

Also does this mean even on PC things like Roblox (fair in this case) and Fortnite which have major social aspects will be banned? Animal Crossing? Splatoon?

ARMORED CORE VI consumes my every waking moment. I defeated Balteus in an epic battle. Seriously such a good boss fight! He has FLAMETHROWER SWORDS!!!!!!!! I just beat Cinder Carla a few minutes back too. The combat and movement is so good! It confirms my thoughts that I'm a sucker for games that have fast combat whether it is DOOM, Vanquish, AC6, Returnal, Bulletstorm or Titanfall 2.

Seems to be pretty good for a console everyone including the media wanted to hate with a vengeance. Still cheaper than a PC too. Games like Yotei, Monster Hunter Wilds and GTA VI will be the big test on how strong the machine is.
We've already seen whether through incompetence or budget that many AAA games are already struggling with current gen performance (Unreal games especially).

I've decided to wait for a sale. The divisiveness regarding companions and narrative and the more mixed critic reviews coming now have me thinking I made the right choice. Sometimes being out of the discourse cycle and playing the game without the noise can give you the best experience.

Either way I got Armored Core 6 on sale and damn It's From's most interesting game since Sekiro.

@Rich33 Yeah the thing is I don't care for turn based JRPGs (i still play them off and on) and I'm really burned out on Metroidvanias. Stellar Blade was a good action game but outside of the excellent combat, music and enemy design I cannot really praise it's story, characters or level design as anything more than derivative. But as a first game it is an impressive debut.

Re: Golden Joystick Reveals Nominations for 'Ultimate Game of the Year'

Astro is the only excellent game on the list from those I've played. FF7 Rebirth was a disappointment and quite frankly sucked big time. Metaphor has been so boring that I quit it and went to Armored core 6. Animal Well was good though I don't remember anything.

Edit: considering people can vote for this, Veilguard shouldn't be there due to its recent release.

Re: Alan Wake 2 Trapped in Financial Dark Place, 'Most' Development, Marketing Costs Recouped

Steam really wouldn't have changed much imo. It didn't help FFXVI recently. PC gamers are cheapskates who only buy games on deep sale.

The game also wasn't very good as a game. Great to watch but every moment of actual gameplay was terrible. It was no Control that's for sure. Add the weird SBI nontroversy (again manufactured by PC Gamers) and this game just would've struggled regardless.

@gollumb82 I love Forbidden West and think it is over hated by a very loud minority. Their is one narrative choice I dislike (their handling of certain character) but otherwise I love the story and think it has some of the best ranged combat in recent games for those who are willing to engage with it's many mechanics. Also the world looks stunning!

Beat Dead Space Remake. It was fine. Still a great game but I didn't care much for the additions of the remake (backtracking at any time, side quests etc). Talking Issac didn't add much either and detracted more often than not. 10/10 game. 7/10 remake.

Played Some Tomb Raider 2013. Completed over 40% before I hit a game breaking bug so that's that. Still the best of New Trilogy though but the writing is really bad compared to Uncharted. 8/10

Beat all 3 speed run levels in Astro. Fun.

Edit: I completely forgot I beat The Lake House DLC which was fine again. Interesting story for the Marmonts and the house and some intriguing ruminations on AI and what is art. Still got horrible gameplay and some very bad dialogue. 7/10. Marmonts as villains 10/10. Hyper for Control 2? 11/10.

From tomorrow I start Armored Core VI. Plan to get HZD remaster soon as well. I love Horizon so I'm definitely not gonna say no to playing it again.

Beat Jeanne D'arc. Great Game, a little too easy but that is perfect for someone who doesn't play that kind of game. 4.5/5.

Playing ASTRO BOT and it is fantastic. The first 5/5 game I've played this year and the most impressed I've been with a platformer since Mario Odyssey. The movement is just so good and it is whimsical. The music rules and I'm a sucker for seeing some of the old Playstation characters especially Jak and Daxter so far.
Just played the second VIP level and holy ***** it was incredible!
