I don't think it is very good for them tbh. Word of mouth is all over the place critically now that outliers have gotten their hands on it (so long tail is hard), it is made in a western country which means higher salaries and budgets.
I don't believe that when every Yakuza and Persona is 50-100 hours long depending on how much you do. People complain that Astro Bot and Spidey 2 are too expensive for their run times.
I would love shorter games personally but I think the market clearly thinks very differently.
@MeanBeanEgg A Forspoken sequel that fixed the open world issues and worked on the writing/narrative would've been a high 80's MC game. It had some great combat and the parkour is a nice touch. Right ideas but no vision for how to make it work.
@C25CLOUD They are cheap to make because Sega are smart to reuse their assets almost completely in cheaper middle games. Pirate in Hawaii or P3 Reload are great examples of this. The same models, world and animations are carried forward with minor updates.
Each Final Fantasy is a story of excess. High budgets, new graphics, new systems, 300 new/remixed tracks. It is outright silly. Did Rebirth need 15-20 mini games for every little thing, did they need to add the entire Shinra plotline to make an existing story more confusing and convoluted? Did FFXVI need all that empty space in between areas or a gear mechanic that was so simple it didn't need to exist at the cost of focusing on the story's pacing?
TBF they've not made any genuinely amazing AAA single player games in a while. FF7 Rebirth was disappointing, FFXVI had a bad narrative, dull characters and a simplistic combat system in a bland world. Forspoken was undercooked and had bad writing.
Also, All these games were too expensive for the franchise they belong to. Look at Sega who are ecstatic with a million sales because their games are cheap as hell to make.
@Matroska Exactly this uses safety as an excuse for moral policing when they should in fact turn their attention to the tech companies and their complete failures in moderating their platforms.
I get where they're coming from but this seems extreme and poorly thought out. Whether we like it or not social media has become a fundamental part of peoples lives now.
Also does this mean even on PC things like Roblox (fair in this case) and Fortnite which have major social aspects will be banned? Animal Crossing? Splatoon?
ARMORED CORE VI consumes my every waking moment. I defeated Balteus in an epic battle. Seriously such a good boss fight! He has FLAMETHROWER SWORDS!!!!!!!! I just beat Cinder Carla a few minutes back too. The combat and movement is so good! It confirms my thoughts that I'm a sucker for games that have fast combat whether it is DOOM, Vanquish, AC6, Returnal, Bulletstorm or Titanfall 2.
@Blaze215 Why because they're covering the PS5 Pro and how games are upgraded for the new tech? Because they covered SIEs financials which are positive? It seems like they're doing their job.
without major price cuts, a pandemic, a resurgent and vocal PC and Nintendo market and with Xbox trying to disrupt the industry. It is very impressive. Oh and the longer cross gen period.
@Deityjester Yeah a basic look through seem to mostly say it's a 7/10 game that is good but maybe not full price good. Steam lacking a mixed option is sad as I think it would lead to more accurate scores.
@MrMagic This is what I think. Kojima bought back the IP rights to DS but Sony got his new Stealth franchise in return where even the movies/tv shows go through their studio.
@get2sammyb I think Physint is probably the IP Sony really care about based on that announcement. Either way I hope Xbox gamers turn up to play the game.
@Banjo- I think even Nintendo have started hitting a hard limit in software outside of MK8. 25 million seems to be the max they can reach. The smart thing for Nintendo is all their studios are in Japan and they are less graphics intensive which makes game dev much cheaper.
@MrPeanutbutterz I think the combat system was weaker overall and the game had a very dull act 3 and an excellent act 1. Which is funny because it got even worse in BG3 while also having a dull act 3 and an incredible act 1.
Seems to be pretty good for a console everyone including the media wanted to hate with a vengeance. Still cheaper than a PC too. Games like Yotei, Monster Hunter Wilds and GTA VI will be the big test on how strong the machine is. We've already seen whether through incompetence or budget that many AAA games are already struggling with current gen performance (Unreal games especially).
@themightyant it's why I'm waiting for a sale and for the noise to die down. I've seen critics I like on both sides of the argument, Just better to play it when it dies down and I can judge it with based on my own play through.
I've decided to wait for a sale. The divisiveness regarding companions and narrative and the more mixed critic reviews coming now have me thinking I made the right choice. Sometimes being out of the discourse cycle and playing the game without the noise can give you the best experience.
Either way I got Armored Core 6 on sale and damn It's From's most interesting game since Sekiro.
@Rich33 Yeah the thing is I don't care for turn based JRPGs (i still play them off and on) and I'm really burned out on Metroidvanias. Stellar Blade was a good action game but outside of the excellent combat, music and enemy design I cannot really praise it's story, characters or level design as anything more than derivative. But as a first game it is an impressive debut.
@Rich33 SB isn't too surprising since the story was a bit dull. It is my second favorite game this year though (mostly a sign of how boring 2024 has been for me personally)
Astro is the only excellent game on the list from those I've played. FF7 Rebirth was a disappointment and quite frankly sucked big time. Metaphor has been so boring that I quit it and went to Armored core 6. Animal Well was good though I don't remember anything.
Edit: considering people can vote for this, Veilguard shouldn't be there due to its recent release.
Steam really wouldn't have changed much imo. It didn't help FFXVI recently. PC gamers are cheapskates who only buy games on deep sale.
The game also wasn't very good as a game. Great to watch but every moment of actual gameplay was terrible. It was no Control that's for sure. Add the weird SBI nontroversy (again manufactured by PC Gamers) and this game just would've struggled regardless.
@Kiefer-Sutherland The site has really started to get filled with a bad comment section. Look at every poll to really sell that to you. The recent Spider-man 2 poll had over 70% of players like the game but 80% of the comments were people who disliked it.
Isn't it common sense that most people would be playing the original? The 10 dollar upgrade is for the more hardcore fans which were never going to be on PC. Even on PS if even 1 million people upgrade the game, it will be profitable.
I don't plan to upgrade but they've got a lot of interesting tech and software for the inevitable PS6. Devs seem very excited by it and the rumors all talk of the pro settings being easy to use.
@gollumb82 I love Forbidden West and think it is over hated by a very loud minority. Their is one narrative choice I dislike (their handling of certain character) but otherwise I love the story and think it has some of the best ranged combat in recent games for those who are willing to engage with it's many mechanics. Also the world looks stunning!
Beat Dead Space Remake. It was fine. Still a great game but I didn't care much for the additions of the remake (backtracking at any time, side quests etc). Talking Issac didn't add much either and detracted more often than not. 10/10 game. 7/10 remake.
Played Some Tomb Raider 2013. Completed over 40% before I hit a game breaking bug so that's that. Still the best of New Trilogy though but the writing is really bad compared to Uncharted. 8/10
Beat all 3 speed run levels in Astro. Fun.
Edit: I completely forgot I beat The Lake House DLC which was fine again. Interesting story for the Marmonts and the house and some intriguing ruminations on AI and what is art. Still got horrible gameplay and some very bad dialogue. 7/10. Marmonts as villains 10/10. Hyper for Control 2? 11/10.
From tomorrow I start Armored Core VI. Plan to get HZD remaster soon as well. I love Horizon so I'm definitely not gonna say no to playing it again.
I played DQXI a year or two back so that seems like a lot of time for those who wanted to play it to get it done. LBP3 is a surprising one. Maybe not worth it without the Multiplayer? Odd choice regardless but that's why you buy games instead.
@CrashBandicoat same the two FF Games and AW2 are the only games I've played in Quality mode since getting the PS5. God awful performance modes. I saw people saying Ff7 Rebirth didn't look that bad on PS5 when SE literally apologized for the poor work.
Wasn't Astro Bot a SoP game? I think Sony may just get rid of the Showcase and show all games in Sops now. The first party games aren't coming out fast enough to have a blow out presentation.
@Kanji-Tatsumi a million issues with XV but it does two things right that XVI completely failed at.. Had great ensemble cast and a lot more ambition/charm
Beat Jeanne D'arc. Great Game, a little too easy but that is perfect for someone who doesn't play that kind of game. 4.5/5.
Playing ASTRO BOT and it is fantastic. The first 5/5 game I've played this year and the most impressed I've been with a platformer since Mario Odyssey. The movement is just so good and it is whimsical. The music rules and I'm a sucker for seeing some of the old Playstation characters especially Jak and Daxter so far.
Just played the second VIP level and holy ***** it was incredible!
@Tecinthebrain Japan doesn't buy games in general. If you look at those sales charts most games that aren't Nintendo first party barely crack 100k units sold. That's why most developers are now focused on breaking through in the west.
@CielloArc again it all depends on PSSR. I really wish we got some more third party updates in the video. If PSSR can upscale to XESS levels it could be big.
@KilloWertz but is it replacing the current PS5 that we use? Or is it an option for people who want more. Again if it is a ***** product the market will reject it. Being criticized for the price is weird when there are cheaper versions on the market and they don't plan to replace them with this version.
