@ShadowofSparta it is the lighting to me. Kojima has always had a strong sense of atmospheric lighting. This is just video game remake lighting. Also, The Boss looks odd.
Phil Spencer and Co. Always rile up people like this when they get momentum. He knew full well what he was saying, how it'd be clipped and everything. I'm more surprised Layden was so affected by it.
Must be something more to the stuff Xbox tried to pull or did pull back in the day that has this particular topic get him to react like this.
Honestly, they're better off just releasing free demos to the public rather than hiding behind closed doors which only influences and journalists have access to.
Lol Twitter was very funny with people saying "we are glad you've not taken the PS bribe" when Playstation is actively helping in development and marketing of the game.
I just beat the Rose chapter last night. Hilarious. The worst part the enemies are still ***** to fight and the boss fights are truly some of the worst I've played in modern memory.
This game looks fantastic. Reminds me of Ninja Gaiden in a good way! I'll be honest I hate how boring Souls gameplay is in general. We need more fast paced action games like Stellar Blade and Ronin.
@Totheteeth even I don't really take them too seriously but it is just fascinating to see such a negative preview and the next site you check is glowing and ecstatic.
@DogPark I don't think anyone is. The so called dad Sim games are still breaking record sales, they are doing well on PC and are critically well received. Push really needs to stop acting like Twitter memes are real life.
Look at a lot of the comments during the SOP and you'll see people want those mature/serious action games. I think Sony needs more family friendly games as well but that is a balance I think they can strike.
It is fascinating to read EG and then this site. Both previews are the opposite. EG straight up called the game dated and not that good. Push Square loves it. I guess this one will come down to reviews
@Maubari it truly sucks. Everyone in gaming is so negative. Fanboys tearing each other's systems down (including PCMR), complaints over art styles, changing gameplay. The constant negativity in the industry from the hardcore fans to the journalists covering it is tiresome.
There is a place for it, talking about developer rights, corporate greed etc but it is wasted overall.
@AdamNovice most interesting part of the showcase was the lack of Japanese titles except for Mgs. I wonder if Xbox is now more focused on getting back the American audiences which have shifted to PC/PS/Switch.
@DonkeyFantasy tbf it has become a Xbox site. Push Square is treating Xbox as a third party studio when they are not. They are using this odd middle ground to basically regurgitate news that has no bearing on Playstation.
XBOX has a rather simple strategy. They now know that Playstation is a viable platform for sales. So now they see if any of these games gets Zelda, God of War traction (reviews). If it helps boost sales of hardware or Gamepass subs, they don't need to continue with all games but only multi-player or weaker sellers or those already multi platform.
It is fascinating how much of a difference Gyro aiming makes for those little adjustments. In BOTW it was the only decent way to use the bow and arrow since the controls in that game suck. But I also understand the need to have parity between versions for cross play games but then you might as well not include PC gamers since the mouse is also something the Xbox doesn't have.
Also, I really hate how little third parties play with the Switch and Playstation controller features. Haptics are rarely used. Adaptive triggers wasted on mundane tasks. Then you play an exclusive and those pop with mostly incredible usage of those features. Stellar Blades really fun fishing and setpieces comes to mind or the vibrations in Rebirth when Shinras planes fly.
Man I barely have time to play games and almost every major game and many indies are at least 30 hours long. Even Stellar Blade which I just finished is short taking FORTY HOURS.
I do not know where people get the energy to complain when there are so many long games constantly coming out. I wonder if gamers just rush through games.
Also it had AW2 Dlc with Rose and Jesse Faden. I'm good lol.
It's not a mainline title who cares. It's Horizon for kids why not have it on the Switch which most kids play on.
It honestly looks better than I expected though with some high quality presentation. Doesn't look like a cash grab but more of a testing the waters for younger players kinda thing.
Stellar Blade continues. I am really enjoying it and it continues to grow on me. Matrix 11 was a little too long though for such a linear and rather drab area.
I quit BG3 in Act 3. 80 hours in and 4 months of playtime but I'm bored and tired of it. Act 3 is so dull.
Waiting for Hellblade 2 reviews to decide if I sub to a month of GamePass or not. Otherwise Lorelei has caught my interest.
I am not surprised, the Playstation 5 is still too expensive for so many.
60000 Yen in Japan and that's 20% of a starting salary. Europe is also suffering under heavy inflation so I can see those users sticking with the PS4 until GTA6
I know everyone will be mean but after all the struggles the development has gone through, I am happy for the many many developers who suffered to get this game out.
@mariomaster96 I think it is more Nintendo doesn't feel like they need to share space with the others. Also, I doubt they have much to show except more DS/3DS/WiiU Remasters/Remakes at this point.
@get2sammyb I think another problem is Fortnite has broken how updates for live services are done. They are so fast with new content and keeping players engaged.
@lacerz Oh I meant that more for devs who've been critical of the extra work and the limitations. Larian and Remedy come to mind. Also, on the business side I remember the Series S was selling at a huge loss (maybe that has changed now). Far more than the Series X.
How is Spencer still in the job? His gambles have all put Xbox in an even more precarious position. Gamepass did affect revenue, Bethesda definitely didn't show up with the juggernaut they needed, Halo launched in a very mixed state (Nintendo and Sony would never let that happen with Mario or God of War), The series S was a really short-term bet that also didn't work, their marketing and identity as a brand is non-existent.
Makes sense for their live service games and we also know that playstation cares about completion rates for their single player offerings.
Still dislike the idea of all games wanting all the attention of players. Nothing wrong with being a 30 hour one and done game which you may replay 2-3 down the line.
You know as a kid, I just used to go to the store see a game cover that looked cool buy it with my allowance and play it.
Now as an adult that is unchanged except that I now read reviews and am more careful of purchases.
This should be the limit of how much the average audience cares about games. The health of all industries always remains volatile especially tech, entertainment and consumer electronics of which gaming fits all 3.
Reduce the scope of your games. FF7 Rebirth didn't need a mini-game for literally everything. You don't need 5-6 towers for every region. These are expensive and unnecessary additions for minimal quality gains.
FF16 didn't need to have the drab sidequests and could've just focused on companion quests that continued throughout the journey. Most of the sidequests were waste of time fetch quests.
@Th3solution As per their report a lot of that lower profit was because of the aggressive sales in multiple regions. This FY they plan to again sell the PS5 at full price which means they make more money.
@REALAIS overall probably 60-40 Towards PC which has really gotten into it. Either way I don't see them changing the delivery of single player games to be day and date yet.
So there is generally a big drop-off between direct sequels. and Lightning Returns the third game in the XIII trilogy was last reported at 1.5 million units sold. So half the sales is pretty much on par for Rebirth
@UltimateOtaku91 can you find a breakdown of how sequels in the same franchise have done? I read somewhere that X-2 sold half of the units FFX did and a similar story for the XIII Series.

Re: Sublime Horror Resident Evil Village Tops 10 Million Units
Didn't like it too much. Started strong but it kinda just became a "going through the motions" game. Felt the same about RE4 remake despite liking it.

Re: PSA: Most Elden Ring Players Have Yet to Beat Shadow of the Erdtree-Blocking Boss
They probably didn't enjoy the game enough to finish it. So why would they get that far?
Also, wouldn't it have been easier to switch on a PS4/5 and check the trophy percentage over there for a more accurate look at the boss completion?

Re: PS5 Needs to Do a Better Job of Alerting You to the Things Going on in Your Games
@thefourfoldroot1 yeah this has to be an optional feature of the store. Look at how Xbox has so many egregious ads on the main screen.
It is the developers job to make sure their player base knows what updates are happening in their games. Not the platform holder.
Re: Preview: Phantom Blade Zero PS5 Slashes Through Soulslike Tropes for Pure, Cutthroat Action

Re: Reaction: You Said You Were Sick of PS5's Sad Dad Sims, So You Better Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is
@Keyblade-Dan yup the Insomniac sales leaks were eye opening to how poorly Japan Studio games sold.
Also I do think this year itself, Playstation has used their second party output to cater to different types of action games.
I think they want to go beyond that kind of gameplay but need to slowly retrain their audiences to move on from that as well.
Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveal Has Utterly Torn Fan Opinion as Trailer Gets Slaughtered
I think a comment I read on Twitter nailed it:
They used the Borderlands style name announcements and not in a good way.
I don't care overall until we see gameplay and nobody hates Dragon Age more than Dragon Age fans.
That being said CG/In-engine cinematic trailers need to go. We need ASTRO Bot/Doom The Dark Ages type trailers that focus more on what the game is.
Also, isn't it weird that both EA and Ubisoft put small teasers in this show to basically advertise their own events or reveals? Marketing is weird.

Re: Microsoft Commits to Next Call of Duty Game on Xbox Game Pass, New Report Says
I don't really think it'll move the needle much for them but it could help with PC GP and maybe get a couple of those Steam kids into the ecosystem.
With Playstation, I can see those thinking about which next gen console maybe having this influence their decision.
A bold choice but, a very short term benefit choice.
