@riceNpea as a consumer it isn't our job to care about the business unless it affects us/our region. I feel for Japanese consumers but I also think if it is negatively received they'll vote with their wallets obviously and go to competitors like PC or Xbox.
@Vivisapprentice which is really quite funny because a lot of the stores in Hong Kong are having pretty sizeable discounts (50-70 USD appx) because of how many people want it right now.
It's not good but at the same time Japan is truly not in good shape despite what the Nikkei indicates. Small and medium company employees have seen wages stagnate. The Japanese PS5 are being scalped and sold in China because it is cheaper and not region locked especially with Wukong fever.
I hope japan does stabalise the Yen soon so companies won't be able to make excuses for these silly decisions.
Also some stats for nerds since this was discussed yesterday about YouTube views and reach: Xbox trailer 2 days back 19k views Official Sega West 2 days back 32k views Playstation trailer one hour old 7k views already
I don't understand why they're showing so much? All the reactions are positive to trailers. Maybe the marketing isn't leading to the pre-order numbers they want so they need to show more? Maybe they're trying to make it feel like an event like Square does for FF?
@Toot1st probably a mix of analytics regarding SEO and Engagement. Also it informs PS4 users that the game isn't coming on that console by virtue of not having it be mentioned in the headline itself.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think Pushsquare has generally got better coverage of Japanese/Asian games then PureXbox. NintendoLife has better Indie coverage than both. Purexbox has great reaction pieces.
Want to know the hilarious part? It doesn't matter people are still buying/pre-ordering the Playstation version.
For Atlus it is free money so I don't really fault them for that. But for Microsoft I'm very curious how these probably expensive deals helped with software and hardware sales for Yakuza 8 and this.
Edit: just interesting but Until Dawn Remake is on page one of the Best seller list in US and UK. I am always surprised by how popular the game is.
The Dark Pictures never really clicked for me unlike Until Dawn (their best) or The Quarry (good). I'm interested in this though but the idea of it being more... Stereotypical horror with the camera and active combat has me a bit iffy since I actually like the QTE combat which means it can be more cinematic.
Well in some good news, my doctor said my tendon that was cut is healing properly and I can walk around again. It hurts but it's nice to leave the house.
Playstation: I'm playing Jeanne D'arc. It is fun but really a game I can only do one or two missions a da because it does feel a little too easy 5 chapters in. Really enjoying playing something so different though and the little anime videos are great!
Switch: started Thousand Year Door. Wholly crap this game is gorgeous but also next time people call a Playstation game a walking and talking Sim. I'm going to point at this game and Pikmin 4. They Never Shut Up. You cannot skip dialogue. It's got that annoying sound effect every time they talk. It is almost never as funny as it thinks it is. I'm curious if this game will enamor me with it's looks and combat or whether this start and stop story telling and unskippable nonsense dialogue will make me drop it.
@Neither_scene I don't find it surprising since not being F2P is really dangerous for GaaS. People can complain all they want over battle passes etc but companies have successfully changed the wiring to have people not want to pay unless it is a game with massive hype.
Concord also had some very bad trailers which was the opposite of the great trailers HD2 had. Doesn't help that the art design isn't very strong like Destiny or Marathon where from the first trailer you're intrigued.
@colonelkilgore I mean they also had one of the biggest hits of the year in Helldivers 2 (a sony published online only game which was in development for 8 years like Concord). Also they're still making single player games. Astro is in 2 weeks. Ragnarok sold incredibly well.
@Flaming_Kaiser it's really quite bizarre how many predominantly PC players have found their way onto a dedicated Playstation site and then talk about how they've not had issues with their game.
Imagine going on Nintendo Life and talking about how MK1 is fine on PS5.
@OldGamer999 we really do but mostly because I just love the games they make. People may have issues with Spidey 2 or Horizon but they're technical masterpieces. TLOU2 still puts most current gen enemy AI to shame.
It is clear Capcom are increasing their focus on world interactivity (following Zelda) but that usually comes at the cost of performance.
This looks like Nioh mixed with Ninja Gaiden. The animations look great but I'm a bit iffy that like Black Myth it'll be a bit more boss rush and less interesting in-between gameplay. Does look very promising though.
@NEStalgia only one existing market has a major decline. Europe. Europe also happens to be the place with the most unstable economies. The PS5 is out pacing PS4 in Japan and America.
@GeeEssEff it's dumb. There's more competition than ever before. Steam is huge, Nintendo is huge. There is still the fight with traditional streaming media and YouTube as well for people's time.
@PuppetMaster true. It's just that nothing has really scratched that itch since. A lot of games have tried to take the Uncharted mechanics and while some like the Jedi games do it decently none have actually managed to have the polish and set pieces and vertical combat to match.
@Northern_munkey if it is like that than I'm definitely in. But the trailer really gave me Nioh vibes. I like Souls-likes but I'm burned out on the type of game overall.
If you listen to Sacred Symbols they've been parroting this for months. Xbox has created a narrative around console/premium gaming that is largely not true. The Playstation 5 is doing well for a console with covid issues and a price increase and software sales are great. The Switch is a juggernaut. PC gaming is more accessible than ever. The only group bringing it down is Xbox.
I'm excited for this game but damn the whole trailer just had me wanting to replay U4 or 2 again. Like damn, those games rule. I hope Sony brings the franchise back if not with NDs development at least their story/creative input.
Regarding the business decision. If it is anything like Sonys deals with Disney? They need to hit certain sales targets, revenue and units. Probably Xbox negotiated with Playtime instead for GPU. Either way with their current hardware sales it seems like they have no choice but to go multiplat. Spider-Man is a gigantic franchise and Playstation do insane marketing and spending to ensure it's success. Xbox doesn't have that with Indy.
Funny part is? Had someone negotiated for an Indy game now, they probably would've got a better deal from Lucasfilm after the last movie became a flop.
@ZeD every platform has gotten really bad. The Switch store is borderline unusable to just browse for games. Steam is flooded with low quality 18+ games or straight up unfinished messes. Playstation has a ton of trophy games that are shovelware. I wonder if these games actually make money.
I liked World and Rise but they never really clicked for me especially since I'm a SP only gamer. I'm hesitant to again pay full price for another game in the series despite it looking promising. Maybe the reviews and hype nearer to launch will get me to buy it.
It looks like another Nioh-like. Plus I'm really tired of Ben Starrs lack of range as a VA. It seems he's become the go to angry British VA. Hope he doesn't get pigeonholed and is given a more interesting job in the future.
What is wrong with devs? Even last year Sept-Nov was stacked and many games suffered. Why do they keep thinking they can launch then? I'm already screwed with Metaphor and Veilguard coming 2 weeks apart.
Oh and September has ASTRO at the beginning of the month and Zelda near the end of the month ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
@GADG3Tx87 actually during the ABK trial, Bethesda docs showed that the deal had been amended with Disney to exclude Playstation. Even in Feb, Spencer said the game would remain on Xbox. This is a decision they made after Sea of Thieves I'm sure of it.
@LowDefAl the leaks are fascinating when you ignore the Insomniac/Wolverine stuff (I'm getting the game, why spoil myself). From updated software sales, some of their internal thinking and they experiment a lot (Horizon on PS plus was one of them)
Not surprised since HFW was used as a test case to see if a MS GP style approach to to PS exclusives soon after release on Plus was worth it. Ended up costing them a lot of revenue.
Source? Insomniac leaks
Also, HFW and Midnight Suns are on sale very often and are worth buying since they're high quality games that are best played at your own pace.
.
@Chaosbros I was discussing it with my brother who has the Series S and he said the same thing. Neither Blade nor Indy are Spider-Man or Wolverine level IPs where people will go out of their way to get consoles.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater's PS5 Release Date Will Reportedly Break Cover Later This Year
Mid Jan could be smart. Come a few weeks before the inevitable Monster Hunter Wilds. It's usually a quiet period so a remake can do good business.
Re: Lust Over 16 Minutes of Unedited Metaphor: ReFantazio Gameplay
@awp69 I remember reading one of the writers comments that Gamepass games tend to get a lot more engagement so they focus more on those.

Re: Gallery: Touring the Gamescom 2024 Showfloor
I read that Capcom basically had huge lines for the Monster Hunter booth.
Otherwise I really like the Dune worm and Shadows motorcycle (he's so dumb and edgy, he becomes cool again)
That being said I think Circanas Mat Piscatella was right, the show was really missing Nintendo and their weirdness.

It depends on how well the games sell on PS5. The better they sell the more pressure Nadella and Hood put on Spencer.

@Yousef- Zenimax games always go on sale fast. Even the four MS games go on sale often (Sea of Thieves is the only one I haven't noticed on sale)
Re: Lost in Random: The Eternal Die Announced, a Rogue-Lite Sequel Coming to PS5 in 2025
Played the first on Gamepass. Will play this one there too. The first was a good 7/10 game so I have high hopes they'll improve with the sequel.
