Re: Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement Backtracked on PC After Brutal Review Bombing Campaign

AverageGamer

@Shepherd_Tallon There is no tweet or reply where he took full responsibility. He only states that he played a part in the situation due he decision to display PSN requirement from day 1. I have been following this situation along all weekend and follow the CEO twitter.

Even if it was community management, they are looked as the voice of the studio, they’re say reflects back on the image of the studio cause it they messages where the one being pass along on twitter, Reddit… etc.

EDIT: It looked like one of community management was "Almost" fired. Quoting "Turns out that telling people to review-bomb and refund a game isn't a popular decision with the publisher. "

Sony definitely was not happy with the entire situation.

@Mortal "I run multiple PSN accounts, each set to different regions. A bunch of content creators do the same. I haven't been banned. They haven't been banned."

Running multiple accounts across multiple different regions have literally a hallmark requirement of PlayStation going back to PS3. You had to do it if you truly wanted the best experience since they never made it as easy as Microsoft to just swap regions.

I remember creating a Japanese account to play Demon Soul for free in Japanese XD

@Shepherd_Tallon All it takes is one bad situation to ruin the party for everyone. I'm sure Sony isn't too happy that Arrowhead was weaponizing their player base against them to reverse the situation

@Ainu20 ". Arrowhead clearly went to Sony and asked them to drop the requirement, which Sony did almost immediately."

This wasn't even almost immediately. Almost Immediately would have been like how Xbox tried to raise the price of live, and then only a couple hours later go back on that. The developers knew about this for 6 months. And it took Sony over 48hrs to go back on their requirements. This should have been changed Friday after noon the moment after the OG announcement and the back lash came in. They let it fester all weekend to the point come Monday morning. I'm sure news channel outside of the gaming world would probably be talking about it, and it could affect stock value. People was talking about lawsuits and getting governments involved.

Then you have developers in their Discord sever weaponizing the player base against Sony by approving the massive review bombing and mass refunding instead telling them "We're working on fixing the situation". This sound like Sony wasn't listening to the developers to not push this in the first place since they knew about it for months.

This is not good situation all around and can easily affect their relationship going forward. You don't bite the hand that feed you.

Re: Sony Doubles Down on Helldivers 2 PSN Requirement by Taking It Off Sale for PC in Numerous Countries

AverageGamer

This whole situation just reeks of PC gamers using poor excuse to not make an account or to link PSN account. People suddenly caring about these counties where PSN is not available... Another case of "Look at us! We're championing for the little guy and the unheard. We're such good people". Once they get their way, they'll go back to not care about these places and acting like they don't exist. 80% of these counties probably don't have access to plenty of services anyway much less PSN. They are probably used to using VPNs and proxy services to create accounts to access these services. The only thing this did was cause more issue... Cause now these counties can't purchase the game period. Even if they had a PSN account that they created the one time they visited the US and have been using a VPN ever since to access it.

Re: OlliOlli, Kerbal Space Program Teams Shut Down by GTA Publisher

@Vivisapprentice The Japanese learned from the struggles that they went through during the move to HD gaming during the Xbox 360/PS3 gen. So many studios and teams were either closing, or going through financial struggles... We had big names like Keiji Inafune stating that "Everyone's making awful games - Japan is at least five years behind", and that "Japan is isolated in the gaming world. If something doesn't change, we're doomed.", stressing the need for Japanese developers to bring in Western approaches to game development to make a comeback.

Now here we are 10+ years later with the Japanese video games industry in a somewhat healthy place. Now saying that Western developers should be looking at Japanese teams.

@GymratAmarillo "indie developer isn't indie if they depend on publishers because if you depend on a publisher at the first signal of trouble for them you are done"

I think a lot of this come down to people hoping to get rich quick. AKA start a studio, pitch several ideas to publishers, hope one of those ideas get picked up, build a big fancy office with a bunch of perks to entice top tier developers to apply, release an okay product, sell studio/IP to publisher... profit???

With the massive BOOM the industry saw during COVID. It bought a lot of eyes to the industry as a way to make profit. People just don't release the massive profit gains don't last...

Re: Transmog System 'Doesn't Make Sense' in Helldivers 2, Says CEO

Ah... the usual gamer mentality of "I like this game.... but I want it to play like every other game i play". Good on the devs for sticking to their vision of the game, and not just doing what the people want for brownie points. But this is always why a game becoming mainstream, popular, or being a flavor of the months isn't always a good thing.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Expected to Release Around 2027, Says Square Enix

@Titntin “ Complaints of bloat in a huge jrpg are almost rediculous, it’s a pretty much an accepted part of the jrpg experience and part of the enjoyment of the title. It’s like asking Sega to make 'Like a Dragon' with just the story missions. Such people are missing the point and should just go play a narritive action game and leave jrpg's to those of us that enjoy the format.”

I do think the complaints are earned. While bloat is very much what makes JRPGs… well JRPGs. You have to find a balance. Like a Dragon finds a very good balance in bloat, and you can easily run from story mission to story if you choose to. It bloat very rarely completely stop player progression. Only a few times it happens. It left up to the player most of time if they really want pad out their play session.

I haven’t played Rebirth TBH… Simply cause I don’t play my PS5. I’ll probably wait till the PC version so I can play it on my 5090 and i9 16900k when those parts release. But from what I hear and seen from gameplay streamed over discord from my friend group. The bloat in rebirth completely stop story progression to stand still. Every new mundane task seem to involves a minigame now.

@Neither_scene I don’t really care about the mtx in DD2. I personally haven’t picked it up yet cause of the poor performance at a $70 price tag.

MH gameplay loop make it very hard for the general public to get invested in. So a lot of the MH playerbase are dedicated heavily to the franchise, and are less likely to make complaints. DD2 is much more approachable, so you’re going to hear a lot more complaints.

Re: New Marvel Game Reveal Incoming, Rumoured to Be a 6v6 Hero-Based Shooter

AverageGamer

@nomither6 "R6 seige is a tactical FPS with classes" The operators aren't really classes. A hero shooter emphasizes "hero" characters that have distinctive abilities and/or weapons that are specific to them. That is basically what the operators are. They are named playable characters with lore and back stories, and distinctive abilities and/or weapons that are specific to them.

This is also why Apex kinda falls under the same thing as hero shooter. The Legends in the game are each different from the other due to their abilities, playstyle, personality, and backstory.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

AverageGamer

@MrMagic Insomniac is a big enough studio that they can easily support consoles and VR. I mean they were doing that literally before Sony purchased them. Look at the studio history and see they were popping multiple games a year, as well releasing top games like the original Spider Man PS4. Sony buys them then they suddenly drop to 1 game every other year… It doesn’t take much to task a small team of developers to make a VR game. Most big VR games are coming from studios with less than 100 people.
