@kcarnes9051 "that this sequel was originally supposed to be on Playstation? "
Do you have anything to confirm that the sequel was supposed to be on Playstation. Cause there was no confirm that a sequel was even in the works post release of the first game... Ninja Theory went straight to work on Bleeding Edge. So how can a non-existed sequel supposed to be on a platform.
@glennthefrog Cause it didn't take 5 year... more like 3-4 years. The development for the game didn't start till 2020, and it development was probably slow down due to covid, and the fact they had to wait for UE5 which didn't actually launch till 2022.
Can’t wait to play this. Quite enjoyed the first one… but didn’t get to finish it. Since it more or less crippled my GTX1060, and was just playable of my 2070 super. This time I have an 4090 to throw at it.
@Americansamurai1 “ I think Herman is playing favorites” Not just Herman… I think there also another ex Guerrilla employee that head of development of something at PlayStation.
@CieloAzure Would we have wanted a sequel? The Ghostwire Tokyo we got probably wasn't even close to the one we were supposed to get since Ikumi Nakamura left a couple of months after it was announced.
@breakneck "How is Spencer still in the job? His gambles have all put Xbox in an even more precarious position."
Cause Phil job isn't just to sell plastic boxes... He job was to overall increase profit in their gaming division. Unfortunately, while his decisions look bad from our viewpoint. He brought Micrsoft from being 7 or 8th in term of revenue (They was getting beat out by Apple and Google). To now being 3rd behind Tencent and Sony, now ahead of Apple.
Imagine where they'll be if their gaming app store plans work out... They now control some of the biggest mobile games.
@Kevw2006 "The only real use I can see for them is transferring saves to a new console and if you need to do that you could simply just sign up for one month to upload and download your saves to the new console."
idk,... Cloud saves is pretty important for more than just moving consoles. If you're someone who buys a lot of games. There is no way you can keep all those saves files on the tiny SSD consoles get. Eventually save data is going to cut into storage that already has to be share with large game downloads and photos/videos.
@Mikey856 An Xbox handheld would most likely just be an Xbox theme handheld PC running window with a custom UI... Basically what the is ROG Ally but green.
Whether or not, it was Jim fault for that. The person he would have been speaking to approve that push for GaaS is Herman, the man who actually approve what titles get developed by their studio, since he was CEO of PlayStation studios.
Rich men don’t count miles. But some do get old, and would rather spend more time with their families.
@nomither6 I get that some of their studios being in California is a big reason. But like I mentioned before in another comment, one of the main reasons that Jim Ryan retired was because of the difficulties caused from having to travel from Europe to North America. These two will probably also get sick of it…
@Jay767 Yeah. But a lot those other businesses have CEOs and studio heads that also live in the states or California. One of the main reasons that Jim Ryan retired was because of the difficulties caused from having to travel from Europe to North America. I'm sure for these two... It probably also going to get to the point that traveling becomes a hassle.
@nomither6 I don't see them moving back to Japan anytime soon... Maybe Europe? I never understood why the Playstation HQ is in California to begin with. It a massive headache when your main leaders live in a completely different country than your main office.
@get2sammyb " I think PlayStation's hardware strategy has been good recently, especially with all the accessories like PS Portal and DualSense Edge."
Only if they fixed the massive issues with the Pulse Explore. I've bought 3 different pairs, and I have never had so many issues with static in buds or disconnects using the link adapter. They also don't even sound that great for the price which is sad when you realize that Playstation owns Audeze.
@UltimateOtaku91 While Sony didn't have direct hands in shutting of the studio... Developers don't just shut studios down. Sony definitely played a part in the closure of the studio by either A) pulling funding. B) Canceling projects. C) Poaching talent
@pharos_haven It not about how powerful. It about the toolset they offer to make those games run on said hardware… Game hardware isn’t about brute strength anymore. The next generation switch will have access to stuff like FSR, DLSS, frame generation… etc.
@Sequel But the last year during FTC hearing, it was already reported that Dishonored 3 was in development? So how did we go from development to pitching?
@somnambulance But back when we had the OG Super Mario Bros... We didn't have to wait 15+ years for the sequel. We got Super Mario Bros 2 3 years later. I'm also sure games back then had limited production runs. It also doesn't help that Rockstar keeps porting it to new consoles and updating it with meaningful content.
@somnambulance Why is it so hard to imagine that every year someone is born... and eventually they'll be old enough to own GTA. I was in best buy today and someone was buying a PS5 for their son. Guess what they also bought with the consoles... GTA
@nomither6 There are definitely a lot of late PS3 and early PS4 games that need a remaster/remake. Black Flag is one of them. Even maxed out on PC. The visuals of that game have not aged well. And playing it on a modern 4K TV with HDR using auto HDR will blow out the highlights. The game needs a true remake...
@Shepherd_Tallon There is no tweet or reply where he took full responsibility. He only states that he played a part in the situation due he decision to display PSN requirement from day 1. I have been following this situation along all weekend and follow the CEO twitter.
Even if it was community management, they are looked as the voice of the studio, they’re say reflects back on the image of the studio cause it they messages where the one being pass along on twitter, Reddit… etc.
EDIT: It looked like one of community management was "Almost" fired. Quoting "Turns out that telling people to review-bomb and refund a game isn't a popular decision with the publisher. "
Sony definitely was not happy with the entire situation.
@Mortal "I run multiple PSN accounts, each set to different regions. A bunch of content creators do the same. I haven't been banned. They haven't been banned."
Running multiple accounts across multiple different regions have literally a hallmark requirement of PlayStation going back to PS3. You had to do it if you truly wanted the best experience since they never made it as easy as Microsoft to just swap regions.
I remember creating a Japanese account to play Demon Soul for free in Japanese XD
@Shepherd_Tallon All it takes is one bad situation to ruin the party for everyone. I'm sure Sony isn't too happy that Arrowhead was weaponizing their player base against them to reverse the situation
@Ainu20 ". Arrowhead clearly went to Sony and asked them to drop the requirement, which Sony did almost immediately."
This wasn't even almost immediately. Almost Immediately would have been like how Xbox tried to raise the price of live, and then only a couple hours later go back on that. The developers knew about this for 6 months. And it took Sony over 48hrs to go back on their requirements. This should have been changed Friday after noon the moment after the OG announcement and the back lash came in. They let it fester all weekend to the point come Monday morning. I'm sure news channel outside of the gaming world would probably be talking about it, and it could affect stock value. People was talking about lawsuits and getting governments involved.
Then you have developers in their Discord sever weaponizing the player base against Sony by approving the massive review bombing and mass refunding instead telling them "We're working on fixing the situation". This sound like Sony wasn't listening to the developers to not push this in the first place since they knew about it for months.
This is not good situation all around and can easily affect their relationship going forward. You don't bite the hand that feed you.
After all this, I’m more worried about Sony and Arrowhead relationship. I would not be surprised to hear that they purchased the ip back from Sony and that they are going independent with publishing.
This whole situation just reeks of PC gamers using poor excuse to not make an account or to link PSN account. People suddenly caring about these counties where PSN is not available... Another case of "Look at us! We're championing for the little guy and the unheard. We're such good people". Once they get their way, they'll go back to not care about these places and acting like they don't exist. 80% of these counties probably don't have access to plenty of services anyway much less PSN. They are probably used to using VPNs and proxy services to create accounts to access these services. The only thing this did was cause more issue... Cause now these counties can't purchase the game period. Even if they had a PSN account that they created the one time they visited the US and have been using a VPN ever since to access it.
@Vivisapprentice The Japanese learned from the struggles that they went through during the move to HD gaming during the Xbox 360/PS3 gen. So many studios and teams were either closing, or going through financial struggles... We had big names like Keiji Inafune stating that "Everyone's making awful games - Japan is at least five years behind", and that "Japan is isolated in the gaming world. If something doesn't change, we're doomed.", stressing the need for Japanese developers to bring in Western approaches to game development to make a comeback.
