@UltimateOtaku91 Those are exactly the things I mean. Enemy design/variety and dungeon design, as well as the somewhat repetitive gameplay loop let it down for me. The combat system and story were definitely the highlights.
I still think it deserves its nomination and I don't think there's anything I'd replace it with but I don't think it deserves to win against the other nominees (besides Erdtree) but that's just how I see it.
Of all the scores that make sense this year, Metaphor isn't one of them. Crazy that it scored higher than Rebirth. A great game don't get me wrong but it's got far too much holding it back for me.
@Jaz007 This is the biggest reason why I can't see it as a perfect game like a lot of others do. It takes a huge dip in quality near the end which isn't really masterpiece material imo. Kinda wish I waited a couple more years so I could've played the truly finished product.
I keep on meaning to go back and do two more playthroughs as Durge but all these updates keep setting me back. Might as well wait till the support for it ends so I know I'm getting as much as I can out of another replay.
More content is great but sometimes it feels like you're better off buying games 2-3 years after it's initial release. You get more content for a lower price.
@LikelySatan lol some of my favourite series are ones that change a lot from game to game like Dragon Age and Final Fantasy. I just love Thedas and the overarching story and characters like Solas and Morrigan.
I also don't think this will kill the series. The sales are on par with how Dragon Age usually performs in its first few weeks.
It's funny to see people in the comments saying how Inquisition and 2 were so much better when those games were also hated at first. The discourse just repeats itself.
It took 10 years for Inquisition to sell 14 million. Dragon Age has always been a slow burner, it's never been as big as Mass Effect so time will tell.
I'll be playing much more Veilguard which just gets better and better the more you play and Alan Wake 2 which I'm also enjoying immensely. I also need to finish off Metaphor's platinum but I've lost the motivation to go back at the moment.
@Burnish1619 It's not that Chinese players don't count, it's more that it's important to bring up when discussing this games success compared to that of other games this year since other games didn't have the whole of China backing them.
I understand why, Wu Kong is a huge game for them and is a big step forward for gaming and game development in China. It's also not a bad game at all by it's own merits but it's hard to deny the fact that any voting contest involving it is going to be skewed greatly by it's massive Chinese audience.
@Jey887 Oh definitely, it happens to nearly every single game that comes out and is indeed very tiresome. I think FF is a very common target due to the nature of the series being unafraid of change.
@Uromastryx I think the hate stems from a loud minority. While I understand some of their criticism, it doesnt take away everything the game does right. It's a huge and extremely polished experience. It won 4 awards at golden joysticks and was 2nd behind Wu Kong so I think most people like it outside of some Internet circles.
@Nei I agree with this to an extent. Persona 3 Reload, Demons Souls, Shadow Of The Colossus, Dead Space and other straight 1:1 remakes are great but they're not interesting and end up being generally forgotten about.
I do prefer remakes like Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy 7 that actually make changes and bring new surprises, it adds to the experience. Some of the other Remakes could've benefited by being more willing to change I think. Especially Demons Souls and Shadow Of The Colossus.
They're pumping these patches out pretty quick. Haven't had any problems so far but nice to know they're on top of it. Plays like a dream already. While I'm here though, more save slots for characters please Bioware 🙏 3 characters is a terrible limit.
@Fiendish-Beaver it's a genuinely fun game. Really been enjoying my time with it too. I agree with a lot of the criticism I've heard but they feel blown out of proportion.
I honestly think DA:V is a really polished and well made game with a solid story and gameplay. It's a shame that games like this end up as a target. Veilguard, Rebirth and Alan Wake 2 deserve better success than they've received.
@Logonogo Yeah I also find that each class doesn't really feel different enough from eachother. Lots of shared spells and moves so each class felt sort of the same. It's a game that starts off really strong but the quality declines the more you play imo, especially in regards to how companions run out of things to talk about.
I've got lots of little critiques but it's difficult to discuss sometimes as it feels like the game is perceived to be above criticism.
I love BG3 but I still don't understand the perfect scores. It had some pretty glaring flaws as you moved towards the end. Act 3 especially was a bit of a mess.
@tangyzesty For what it's worth, you're not the only one. I thought it was incredibly disappointing and generally feel like people have lower standards when it comes to Fromsoftware as I just can't understand what people see in it. Its far from an 8/10. Let alone a 10/10.
@Wario_Waha We clearly have different definitions of what separate means. It's not separate if you have to play 80% of the base game just to play it's expansion. There is no menu for SOTE where you can select 'new game' how is it separate? It's quite literally not separate from Elden Ring by any definition.
You're really over estimating the affect the game awards has on the industry.
@Wario_Waha It's not a separate experience though. Can you launch SOTE without Elden Ring? It adds to the experience of the base game but it isn't stand alone and shouldn't be viable for GOTY.
Shadow Of The Erdtree being there instead of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Persona 3 Reload, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, Stellar Blade, Dragons Dogma 2 or Veilguard is just insulting really.
Also @PsBoxSwitchOwner I agree, BMW has the lowest score out of every game nominated and lower than some that weren't. I was surprised to see it up there.
Kinda surprised that Veilguard only got a nomination for accessibility. Didn't expect it to win GOTY or anything but expected a few more nominations maybe. They even have Star Wars Outlaws in best action adventure 🤣
Really hoping Rebirth wins, it feels like the most high value game nominated imo. Graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, characters, story, everything just feels top notch. If that doesn't get it then hopefully at least Metaphor grabs it but I highly doubt that.
Shadow of the erdtree really shouldn't be up there. Not just because it's a DLC either, it just wasn't really that good.
Really hope Square Enix (and jrpgs in general) get their W with Rebirth. I would've said that Metaphor would be my 2nd vote but the more I play it, the more disappointed I get with little things here and there so my 2nd vote would go to Veilguard which is never gonna happen but for me it's
@The_Wailing_Doom True enough. Gaming seems to be headed in a direction that's not really for me anyway (streaming, digital only etc) so I guess at least for now, it doesn't matter to me either way.
@Justin113 You're still refusing to answer the questions I'm putting forward. Are the other games that I mentioned that are also an 8 average or not? Are the other Dragon Age games by your metric average or not? You're avoiding my arguments.
You claim to judge without bias and objectively but you gave yourself away in your last comment. This is clearly about how you feel about the game and not everybody else. It's rating at 7-8 with not just critics but also on steam and is above a 4 on the playstation store. It's getting good ratings, regardless of how you want to cope about it.
Also what you said about indies stopped being true a long time ago. Games like Hades and Hollow Knight stand shoulder to shoulder with AAA proudly.
Love me some Dragon Quest. Don't love it as much as some out there but it's definitely a solid series full of great Jrpgs. Shame it's never really taken off in the west though, it deserves more recognition.
@Justin113 So we rate AAA games differently to smaller studios? I see... The whole Dragon Age series is average according to you I guess. You basically made up how scores work just to suit your argument.
I suppose when a game reviews well that you think deserves it so let's say BG3, Astrobot or Metaphor for example. None of those reviews were paid for right? If you think reviews are paid for or influenced in some way then review scores mean nothing anyway and we can all just make things up depending on how we personally feel about a game. "Elden Ring is average because the reviews were skewed by FromSoft. It's objectively a 5-7 out of 10 game"
They sent review copies to people who were far more critical than that of Fextra. Why would they send copies to people more critical of their game and not people like Fextra who probably would've rated it higher? Youre not making sense.
I do like the game but regardless of that, my issue is more how you judge the rating system. Forspoken is average, Star wars Outlaws is average. Actual 6-7 out of 10 games. 8-9 out of 10 isn't average. That's ridiculous. Helldivers 2 is average? Space Marine 2 is average? Persona 3 Reload? Most Yakuza games? I could go on and on.

Re: Outstanding PS2 RPG Dragon Quest 8 Is Now 20 Years Old
DQ8 is definitely in my top 10 Jrpgs. Would love to see it remastered or even remade.
Re: There Is a God! Legacy of Kain PS5 Pre-Orders Are Exceeding Expectations
@Flaming_Kaiser I did the same for Shadows of the damned and lollipop chainsaw so hopefully they do Soul Reaver too.

@Fartingale Same here! I'd probably rate them
DA:O - DA:V - DA2 - DA:I
Not one is the same but I think they're all great in their own way.

Re: Opinion: The Game Awards' Persona 3 Reload Disrespect Is Crazy
@ReddJelly Damn. You're right actually, I completely forgot. Dead Space Remake did change things quite a bit so I take that one back.
That's what I wish they did so bad. We could've finally gotten the land of the giants 😞

Not exactly hard to understand why it won in a public vote. Awesome to see Rebirth in 2nd, gives me hope for it's success in the game awards.
Congratulations to Cody and Briana too. Very well deserved.

Lots of games were snubbed in favour of stroking FromSoftwares big hard erdtree.
Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Patch 3 Out Now, BioWare Promises Another Update 'Soon'
@ChingChengHanji Seriously. Even Star wars Outlaws got a nomination. Veilguard deserved something.

I would've liked some DLC but I'm happy to wait for Vincent and Cid in part 3. It's going to be a seriously fantastic Trilogy when it's all done.

1. Rebirth 2.Veilguard 3.Metaphor 4. Dragons Dogma 2 5. Silent Hill 2 Remake
Something like that.
