Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?

Cloud39472

@Porco If it took people years to warm up to 8 and 12 then aren't you judging 16 too soon?

So, judging games by comments you see on the Internet is somehow a better metric than critic and user scores? How do you justify that logic? Seems like you just have a bias you want confirmed. Your argument against 15 is essentially "I don't like it so reviews must be wrong".

Ps5 exclusives as a whole don't sell that well except Spider-Man, it's not just FF16. You only need to look at the other exclusives to see this.

You're really going to quote another Push Square article at me? This site isn't the best for genuine articles on Squares sales considering they use bloomberg as their source.

You're going to have to do better than this to "prove" the game is a failure worth worrying about because this evidence is shoddy at best.

Even the poll on this very site is against you, I don't even know what to say at this point.

@Porco You haven't been paying very good attention then. A FF release hasn't been 100% celebrated by the community since FF7. Just because you see the reception on the Internet as divisive, it isn't the whole picture and to claim it is based on some articles on Push Square and posts on Reddit is ridiculous.

Look at opencritic or metacritic. How is an 80+ score divisive? That's overwhelmingly positive. It's just silly to see comments on the Internet and thinking "this must be representative of the entire fanbase". Only a small fraction of any fanbase is on the Internet discussing it and that's a fact.

They also said FF16 would meet their longterm goals so I don't know where you're getting the disappointing sales angle from either. It's in the top 5 best selling PS5 games.

Shadow Of The Erdtree is going through a bit of divisive arguments on the Internet itself at the moment. People claiming it's too hard and too inaccessible etc. I guess based on that I should be worried about FromSofts future? Come on bro.

Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?

@fluffiethesock Right but some of these comments are implying they haven't liked the series for decades so why are they still here? It's bizzare. I can't imagine holding onto something for that long and still thinking you're going to get your "return to form".

Ever since 7 this sort of conversation around what is or isn't FF has reared it's ugly head and it's so tiring.

You couldn't have enjoyed them that much when you called the games after 10 an unrecognisable imitation. I've genuinely enjoyed every FF mainline game except maybe the first 3 and FF5? And I would say all of them despite their differences in gameplay all have that distinct FF flavour.

I see these takes a lot "what if the next ones a racing game" "what if the next one is like Tekken". It's disengenuine. The series identity hasn't completely changed because they decided to go from turn based to action combat. If that was the case then Yakuza died after 6 or Mario died as soon as it started going 3D or Resident Evil when it ditched tank controls etc.

Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?

Cloud39472

@Porco Please don't make the mistake of seeing 5 people comment and then thinking that's a representation of the entire fanbase. I mean no disrespect, it's just not a good analysis.

Edit: There are also just as many fans praising the game in the comments as there are hating on it so I don't see how you came to the conclusion you did anyway if I'm being completely honest.

Re: Poll: So, What Are Your Thoughts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Cloud39472

After seeing more, I'm looking forward to it! I'm waiting for pre-orders to go up now and I can't wait to finally get back to Thedas. It's been way too long.

Still think it would've done them a lot of favours if they released a Dragon Age Legendary Edition though and I won't shut up about it until it happens!

Re: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5) - Strong Sequel Seeks a New Direction

Cloud39472

@ShogunRok I just finally got around to playing infinite wealth and being the petty person that I am, I had to come back and say that you straight up lied to me.

The mini-games in Yakuza are far more intrusive and distracting than anything in Rebirth. Dondoko Island? I have to play animal crossing before I can get back to playing the game I paid for? Or how about the bicycle mini game? Where I had to play it despite the game even admitting to my face that I had the money already, but it's going to force me to do it anyway.

The amount of times Infinite Wealth derails the main game for some whacky misadventures is staggering compared to Rebirth which just makes the conversation we had months ago completely baffling to me.

If Rebirth is padding it's main story with mini-games (which a majority of can be skipped, like the queens blood tournament) then Yakuza is doing it in spades. Can't believe you defended that the way you did. Yakuza's mini-games don't "exist alongside the main story" they literally are part of the main story at times.

Re: Final Fantasy 9 Remake Is Almost Certainly Real as Another Database Leak Appears

Cloud39472

@Nei Yep. Definitely going to be seeing a lot of "This is what REAL fans wanted for FF7! This is a true remake!" kind of comments. I can't wait! 🫠

I do love FF9 though and so will definitely play it and enjoy it but as with other 1:1 remakes like Shadow Of The Colossus and Demons Souls etc it'll be a one and done "That was nice" kind of feeling. No remake has hit like FF7's for me, I like that they tried making it fresh y'know?

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Physical Editions Won't Have Actual Discs at Launch, Just Digital Codes

Cloud39472

@Secryt It does matter for context. For games that actually release physically (which is 99% of games that aren't indie) the percentage is a lot higher and shows that when it's available, it is still profitable.

If physical is dead then why do indie developers try to release physical copies of their games? Hollow Knight, Hades, Blasphemous, Dead Cells etc. Why bother if there's no profit in it?

Even further, Alan Wake 2 has decided to release physical after not making enough money digitally or Baldurs Gate 3 which made heaps of money already so didn't even need to release physical if they didn't want to. Why is that? If not for more profit?

Re: Metal Gear Solid 3 PS5 Remake Given New Trailer, But No Release Date

Cloud39472

@Jswift56 It was a fairly basic trailer, I'll give you that. I don't think Kojima should be put on a pedestal the way he is when he's made some pretty glaring mistakes himself in the past. He's a brilliant visionary but he's always needed someone to reign him in a bit.

Anyway, I'll reserve judgement till I see a proper story trailer with The Pain, The End, The Sorrow, Ocelot etc.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Physical Editions Won't Have Actual Discs at Launch, Just Digital Codes

Cloud39472

@Secryt These kinds of articles are always bogus because they include DLC, Digital only indie games and sales of 99p shovelware. Of course with all that included, Physical is going to look like a very small fraction.

I'm not sure what the sales data is for just including games that actually release with both physical and digital but it's never mentioned for clickbait reasons so people can get into heated physical vs digital wars.

Re: Horror Hit Alan Wake 2 Is Getting a Retail PS5 Release Because You Wouldn't Shut Up About It

Cloud39472

@DennisReynolds HMV and GAME have been dying for nearly 20 years but keep clinging on for some reason. I've never even seen a WHSmith store sell DVD's so that's news to me personally but I think all these stores have other problems over just physical media's downfall.

It's odd to claim they're dying but they keep getting made, especially Blu-ray which never really took off entirely but collectors still buy them. Even Disney released limited Blu-ray editions of their Star Wars shows.

If you care about games enough as a hobby then you should care about how it's distributed or sold to you. Digital is already the far more expensive option and it would only end up more so if it ended up being our only option. Sony, MS, Nintendo would have full control. Steam would end up being the only saviour.

Also Alan Wake 2 is a good example of how there is still high physical demand even now.

Re: Horror Hit Alan Wake 2 Is Getting a Retail PS5 Release Because You Wouldn't Shut Up About It

Cloud39472

@DennisReynolds I don't want to assume so I'll ask instead. Do you want an all digital future? Or just accept that this is the case? I personally don't want it nor see it actually happening.

We still get CD's, DVD's, Blu-Rays and Vinyls so why would gaming be the only media to go fully digital? It doesn't make sense to remove options. Overall you'll just lose sales from people like myself if for example gaming did go fully digital, I would not buy games anymore and I know I'm not the only one (though maybe a sadly dying breed perhaps).
