I hope the next mainline game follows more Rebirth than 16 but I do love both and will generally be happy either way. The combat in Rebirth is some of the best in the industry and I don't want to see it just fade away after part 3.
@Supern0va I find it hard to believe that any fan of FF7 wouldn't find something to love in Rebirth. The level of care and attention to detail when it comes to the characters and world is truly phenomenal and I thought personally that the ending was perfect but that's more of a love it or hate it situation.
The story at its core is still exactly the same. There's a lot of side content but you can ignore most of it or all of it if you wanted. I'd say if you ever get the time, from one FF7 fan to another, give it a fair shake!
The silence from Square Enix isn't that surprising if you think about when they celebrated FF16's sales reaching 3 million, most articles were slamming it for being too low or even trying to paint it as a flop. Maybe they want to avoid the same situation? Though if that's the case, it's certainly not working 😅
It has sold 3 million at least though, I'd bet money on that.
@Strikke Nomura is always getting the blame for things he had no involvement in isn't he? Feel bad for the guy honestly. People just parrot what they see online and assume he's the guy to blame.
Rebirth being in the number 1 spot on push square is beautifully ironic considering how much they seem to be taking any shot they can to downplay it's success.
@Pat_trick It's a poll that is currently at 1000 votes out of like what, 50 million ps5 users? I don't think a poll on push square means diddly squat lol
That aside, I don't really care about framerate as long as it's consistently 30 or 60. My eyes adjust after a while either way.
Edit: I originally said 5 million when I should've said 50 million because I'm stupid.
@GigaGaia I was going to say the same thing. Articles for FF16 and FF7 Rebirth have been heavily critical when it comes to sales. But DD2 sells 2.5 million? Amazing! I love both series and so I'm happy for them but it's so obvious how hypocritical PushSquare have been lately.
It's a 10 for me personally. I recognize it's flaws but DD scratches an itch that literally no other game can. There's just no other game like Dragon's Dogma.
@Doctor_BK They don't explain the nuance though. Not here and not in their FF articles either. If they did, they would mention that this is Japan and their numbers for games that aren't Nintendo or handheld have been on the decline for years and so their numbers are not indicative of the bigger picture and so to take it with a pinch of salt.
Instead they try to imply that these numbers show signs of disappointing sales which without Digital and without numbers from other countries is jumping to conclusions by a huge amount.
Dragons Dogma 2 was bound to be divisive just like the first and now with a much bigger playerbase, it's just been even louder.
To me, what makes DD and DD2 fantastic is that their exploration, fun combat and sense of adventure is entirely unmatched by any other JRPG.
Oh and the games insane attention to small details and hidden areas and loot. There is just nothing quite like Dragon's Dogma and it feels like you either love it or hate it at this point.
@CrackmanNL I know, FF16 and Rebirth have both done very well but PushSquare keeps pushing the narrative that they're big flops or something.
Dragons Dogma 2's performance has been fine for me except in densely populated cities but in combat with multiple goblins, a minotaur, a griffin and spells popping off everywhere it still runs really smooth. Not 60fps smooth maybe but I honestly never cared about all the framerate discourse.
@Doctor_BK "In any case, these are merely decent figures. As always, it's important to note that these charts only count physical sales — but no one would blame you for thinking heavily marketed releases like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin should be doing a bit better for themselves."
And then " Elsewhere, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth remains in the top ten, but with sales still slipping — it sold just 7,100 units last week — it's only a matter of time until it's gone."
" merely decent" "should be doing a bit better" "sold just 7100 units" all things said to make these games sound like they're doing poorly. Am I wrong? Push square has a track record of making these articles about game sales recently. Especially if it's a Square Enix game. They love those.
Why do these articles always try and make these sales numbers from Japan sound so disappointing? Its so weird and unnecessary. Feels like engagement/rage bait.
@DennisReynolds Looks like I'm going to have to play as a thief now then! I wonder what things I've missed not knowing that, it's going to drive me crazy now... I wonder if having a Pawn with the same ability would have the same effect? I love how much depth Dragons Dogma has, really hope they continue to support it with DLC and such!
I'll play it eventually, Rebirth and Dragons Dogma 2 are going to take a while then I'll be playing Baldurs Gate 3 and Stellar Blade... Then Granblue Fantasy and Like A Dragon... So maybe I'll get round to it once I'm old and retired.
Putting the MTX and dips in performance aside. This game is goated. Dragons Dogma is in my top 3 so there's no surprise I'd love the sequel. It's a shame that it's blown up for all the wrong reasons though, even if deserved.
@dark_knightmare2 For real though, there's some very clear bias on this site sometimes. If Rebirth did something similar, they'd be all over it I imagine.
Probably not for me as Black Panther and Captain America are very uninteresting to me but I'm glad it's a narrative single player game. Hope fans of these heroes enjoy!
@Lmaooo What are you talking about? Last we heard, FF16 had sold 3m copies and is the number 1 best selling PS5 game in Japan. FF7 Rebirth is number 2 and we only have sales data for Japan so far and it doesn't even count digital. You're jumping to conclusions to suit your agenda.
Who's "the fans"? You? Are you the spokesperson for all fans? You should only ever speak for yourself. They're not listening to you for sure.
@ceedj That would be awesome. There's so many possibilities with this remake and that's why I love it so much. I'm here for crazy Cloud too, the scene in Gongaga was brilliant!
@Zenos People who like and enjoy something don't tend to post it all over the place and scream it from the rooftops as much as people who hate something so it's not unusual.
I can't say too much as I would be mostly speaking out of ignorance having not seen the ending yet but I'm used to the FF fanbase overreacting about the smallest things. There's still another game after this one so even if I do hate this ending, I'd still reserve full judgement until it's all over.
@Lmaooo Considering how well the games review and sell, you are indeed the minority, FF16's "extreme controversy" was also a small group of constantly displeased fans. Square do listen to their fans but the fans aren't a hivemind and we all have different ideas as to what makes a FF title a good game.
As a fan, I'm very pleased and you are a fan who is not pleased. They can't please everybody. There's too much entitlement.
@Zenos I'm on the last few chapters, I've heard about the ending a little and I know it won't bother me. I've been very open to how the story goes from the beginning.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's funny because I played the original when I was about 7 years old and it was solidified as my favourite game way back then. My love for the original only enhances how I feel about the Remake trilogy which as far as I'm concerned are shaping up to be even better than the original was.
It's hard to take "fans" seriously when they act like these games are 0/10 trash just because they aren't 1:1 the same. The characters and story are so well expanded upon and the music and combat are so incredible that if someone is truly a fan then they should be able to find something they enjoy in these games.
Atlus get away with far too much. They sure do milk the hell out of the Persona series and the main SMT series to a lesser extent. They make fantastic games but they're always riddled with day one DLC's and re-releases to "finish" the experience.
I've bought nearly every re-release and spin off over the years because of FOMO but I'm starting to reach my limit. Square doesn't even milk FF7 this much.
@Ralizah Wasn't Metaphor confirmed for this year? Or am I crazy? Probably better if it doesn't release this year because I am absolutely smothered in great games at the moment.
Loving every second. Game of a lifetime for me! Don't understand the sidequest complaints, they've been very varied and fun so far and most of the mini games have been great too.
Definitely going for the platinum and can't wait for part 3.
I'm surprised people like 12's moogles. Always found them too "unmooglelike" for my tastes. The best designs are 6,9,13, 14 and 16 I think. 7 Rebirth's do weird me out though I've gotta say.
@somnambulance They'll be fine. Whenever a new FF title releases this discussion just repeats itself again and again and again. Also glad you like the new games, I myself love them aswell and think that FF is still going very strong,I never miss a new installment.
This is literally just Japan's Physical sales numbers? Nowhere near the whole picture so I'm not really sure what everyone's getting so worked up about.

More cutscenes for side quests? I'm going to have to play it again at some point aren't I? 3rd playthrough here we go!

Re: Final Fantasy 16: The Rising Tide DLC Is Designed to Be More Challenging
Awesome! Can't wait for thursday, I'll play this before doing my hard mode run for Rebirth. So much FF it almost feels like the 90's again.
Re: Despite Hype, Analyst Says Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 'Underperforming'
@Strikke and yet this wasn't reported by push square who seem to love using japan charts any other time... How strange eh? 🤔

What is going on with Push Square? The FF bashing is insane and they're not even trying to hide it. It's just blatantly obvious at this point.

I can't wait. Just finished Rebirth and holy hell... I really want to see what they can pull off in part 3.
