@PloverNutter @Deityjester It's a good enough comparison because both games/IP's are far bigger than their controversies.
The average consumer of Assassin's Creed isn't going to care about any of the things you mentioned. If they did then the series would've started selling less after Origins but they just keep selling more and more with each entry.
@PloverNutter Shadows will be on all platforms day one and the controversy won't have any impact at all just like Hogwarts Legacy was unaffected.
Meanwhile Yotei will only be releasing on PS5 so I severely doubt it will sell more than Shadows. I'll be getting both anyway as I don't have a side in this and I find this whole Assassins Creed vs Ghost's thing really weird.
@Kingsleyx This is my problem too. The games always had this really serious plot with silly undertones and wacky side plots. I remember the most outlandish things were underground castles with tigers and rubber bullet murder plots.
Now the series is leaning way too far into its wacky side and I'm a bit apprehensive about the series' future. It might be heading in a direction that I'm not really interested in. Another problem for me is that they release new games a little too often and I'm starting to get burnt out.
Surprising that it's only a little bit higher than FF16 which released on Tuesday. I wonder if both will get a little bump up on the weekend?
Still, this means sales could be anywhere up to a million. I think FF15's peak player count was 29000 when it released and that still sold somewhere between 1 and 2 million Iirc.
I don't want it to end but if it does end with 4, I hope it's made to be as spectacular as possible! I have a lot of respect for Nomura and how much he's contributed to my favourite games ever.
FF7 Part 3 and Kingdom Hearts 4 will definitely be one hell of a swan song if he retires after that.
@Flaming_Kaiser If I could, I'd avoid LRG altogether but unfortunately, they're always the ones releasing physical games that I really want 😔 and I suppose without them, I wouldn't get it at all.
@Judal27 It's true that we still just don't really know the whole picture so there's a lot of assumptions going on. I would be interested to know the actual hard numbers for both FF16 and Rebirth, sales numbers won't affect my enjoyment of either game of course but I'd really like to know out of curiosity.
He is a brilliant artist, I'm looking forward to reading Choujin X one day.
@Judal27 Yep. Don't know what the deal is but FF really gets blasted a lot these days. People always just assume it's FF they're talking about so they get to have fun taking their own dunks on the games and why they believe they're "failing".
That's why these articles always have some of the most comments on this site.
From what I've researched, the only Jrpg's that sell better than FF are From's titles, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Zelda and sometimes, funnily enough Kingdom Hearts... Out of all these, only Pokemon is turn based and we all know that isn't it's main selling point.
FF's problem is that it's budget isn't equal to the audience it's trying to sell to anymore. Games are just too expensive to make. If it was any of the other problems people in the comments are mentioning then Dragon Quest and Persona should be some of the best selling games ever but they're not.
Why do people think turn based would make FF sell better? What turn based Jrpg sells better than FF? Even Persona and Yakuza just barely surpass 2m when they release but anyway...
I want to mention one reason that I haven't seen brought up and I do believe there is a combination of issues as to why FF doesn't see the success that Square wants to see or what I personally feel it deserves.
Final Fantasy has a problem with having the reputation of being THE high budget jrpg series that delivers a graphical quality that other Jrpgs can't match. This obviously puts a huge cost on development and increases the need to sell more copies, especially for what is their flagship series.
The problem is though, I don't think the audience is there. No matter how good the Jrpg is (unless it's FromSoft... Maybe a soulslike FF would sell more? 😅) they just don't sell the 10m+ numbers that Square is hoping to see and I'm not sure they ever will.
I think it might be time to take a different approach and make FF games a little easier on Squares wallet to develop. I just don't think the Jrpg audience is big enough and clearly they feel the same by trying to attract fans of other genres to the series.
@AdamNovice I've never been into mods either. I dont mind using some that fix bugs or adds clothing and cosmetic items but I've never liked user made content that adds story and new areas no matter how well they may fit contextually.
Of course if people do like that then that's fine but it's just not for me personally.
@Arnna I agree with you. Whenever I see Skyrim thumbnails on YouTube and they're playing a character with modded boobs and butt, supermodel looks and while wearing a bikini too (for maximum defence I presume) I lose a bit more faith in humanity every time.
@GreatAuk Yeah, I honestly don't mind either as long as physical remains an option. I think as long as BC is important to Sony then physical will still be around.
@dreadpirateflappy Ahh that would make sense. 4 would be the obvious one I'd imagine and maybe the portable games? I'd love to see revengeance though personally.
@Jaz007 I never got the Ps4 Pro and was kinda looking forward to getting the PS5 Pro but like you say, no disc drive? And I have to buy the stand too? They can kick rocks.
Will definitely buy it, bought the first one recently too so will eventually play both but I'm waiting for Metaphor at the moment while I tackle some of the old backlog!
@Deadlyblack I honestly think it's more crazy that Shadow Of The Erdtree rated so high. That DLC had some pretty heavy flaws but it seems that no one cares if it's by FromSoft.

Been in a waiting room since 8:30... This is really difficult to do while at work. (couldn't pass up that anniversary edition)

I wish he stayed dead personally. I hate when video game plots have no real weight.

What the heck!? Man... I was looking forward to this. Ah well, more time to play Metaphor and Alan Wake 2 I guess!

I love Yakuza and all but I'll be passing on this one, doesn't really feel like an important entry.

@nedbvai @get2sammyb It was a joke guys, calm down. No need to get so triggered.

I think I'll need another 100 Push Square articles before I can decide if I want one or not 🤔

Disc drive confirmed then? 👀
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 'Hugely Improved' on PS5 Pro, a 'Night and Day' Difference
I would've bought it for this very reason but that price is just rough.
Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?
If it was £600 or even £700 with disc drive and stand included then I wouldve bought it. The nickel and diming is the problem here.
Re: PS5 Players Choose Performance Mode 75% of the Time
Where's the option for 'depends'? Sometimes I choose Fidelity and sometimes I choose performance.
FF7 Rebirth? Fidelity
Elden Ring? Performance
Dmc5? Performance
Spider-Man 2? The inbetween option
You get the point.

They're working on it but haven't decided which games? How does that work?
Re: 'It Felt Like Putting New Glasses On,' Claims First PS5 Pro Hands On
@Korgon Just another case of mountains and molehills I think because I didn't think it was that bad either or maybe I'm just old too, I dunno.

@Jaz007 I never got the Ps4 Pro and was kinda looking forward to getting the PS5 Pro but like you say, no disc drive? And I have to buy the stand too? They can kick rocks.
Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?
That price without a disc drive? F that.
Re: Astro Bot PS5 Sales 'Aren't Huge' in UK, But There's Still Hope
Just because a game is great doesn't mean it'll sell well and likewise just because a game sold poorly doesn't mean it was a bad game.
As a big Jrpg fan, I accepted this a very long time ago.
Re: 25 Years Ago, Square Released the Best Final Fantasy Game
It's definitely one of the best, it's in my personal top 5 FF games.
1.FF7 (And it's Remakes)
2.FF16
3.FF9
4.FF15
5.FF8
Though I swap these around depending on how I'm feeling on a given day...
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2?

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny
@IceClimbersMain Exactly the same reason I'm thinking of getting one. Would love to get back to my hard mode run on a shiny pro model.
Re: Sony Increases PS5 Controller Prices in US, Europe, and More
@Rob_230 Seriously. The battery life sucks so bad.
Re: Astro Bot PS5 Fans Wonder Where All the Square Enix Characters Are
Definitely feels weird not having them there when Square and Sony have had so much history.
I imagine it probably is Squares fault. On a side note, it was super cool to see some more obscure faces in there like Raziel.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Wars Outlaws?
I gave it a 7 but the last segment of the game is fantastic, so good that if the whole game was like that then it could've easily been a 9.

Re: Astro Bot PS5 Is the Best Game of the Year So Far
@GloriosaDaisy Agreed. I'm a huge Elden Ring fan but the DLC was just so disappointing to me. Always a bit perplexed when I see people giving it 10's.

@Deadlyblack I honestly think it's more crazy that Shadow Of The Erdtree rated so high. That DLC had some pretty heavy flaws but it seems that no one cares if it's by FromSoft.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 Delayed Into October on PS5
Not really interested in the mods but I'm looking forward to the new cutscenes and other little additions in this patch.
Re: Astro Bot (PS5) - One of the Greatest PlayStation Platformers of All Time
Not my kind of game but it's great to see well made single player games achieving success all the same.
