Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Delayed on PS5 Until 14th February

@PloverNutter @Deityjester It's a good enough comparison because both games/IP's are far bigger than their controversies.

The average consumer of Assassin's Creed isn't going to care about any of the things you mentioned. If they did then the series would've started selling less after Origins but they just keep selling more and more with each entry.

@PloverNutter Shadows will be on all platforms day one and the controversy won't have any impact at all just like Hogwarts Legacy was unaffected.

Meanwhile Yotei will only be releasing on PS5 so I severely doubt it will sell more than Shadows. I'll be getting both anyway as I don't have a side in this and I find this whole Assassins Creed vs Ghost's thing really weird.

Re: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Might Be the Series' Most Insane Game Yet, Sailing to PS5, PS4 in February

@Kingsleyx This is my problem too. The games always had this really serious plot with silly undertones and wacky side plots. I remember the most outlandish things were underground castles with tigers and rubber bullet murder plots.

Now the series is leaning way too far into its wacky side and I'm a bit apprehensive about the series' future. It might be heading in a direction that I'm not really interested in. Another problem for me is that they release new games a little too often and I'm starting to get burnt out.

Surprising that it's only a little bit higher than FF16 which released on Tuesday. I wonder if both will get a little bump up on the weekend?

Still, this means sales could be anywhere up to a million. I think FF15's peak player count was 29000 when it released and that still sold somewhere between 1 and 2 million Iirc.

@Judal27 It's true that we still just don't really know the whole picture so there's a lot of assumptions going on. I would be interested to know the actual hard numbers for both FF16 and Rebirth, sales numbers won't affect my enjoyment of either game of course but I'd really like to know out of curiosity.

He is a brilliant artist, I'm looking forward to reading Choujin X one day.

From what I've researched, the only Jrpg's that sell better than FF are From's titles, Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Zelda and sometimes, funnily enough Kingdom Hearts... Out of all these, only Pokemon is turn based and we all know that isn't it's main selling point.

FF's problem is that it's budget isn't equal to the audience it's trying to sell to anymore. Games are just too expensive to make. If it was any of the other problems people in the comments are mentioning then Dragon Quest and Persona should be some of the best selling games ever but they're not.

OK I'm done now.

Why do people think turn based would make FF sell better? What turn based Jrpg sells better than FF? Even Persona and Yakuza just barely surpass 2m when they release but anyway...

I want to mention one reason that I haven't seen brought up and I do believe there is a combination of issues as to why FF doesn't see the success that Square wants to see or what I personally feel it deserves.

Final Fantasy has a problem with having the reputation of being THE high budget jrpg series that delivers a graphical quality that other Jrpgs can't match. This obviously puts a huge cost on development and increases the need to sell more copies, especially for what is their flagship series.

The problem is though, I don't think the audience is there. No matter how good the Jrpg is (unless it's FromSoft... Maybe a soulslike FF would sell more? 😅) they just don't sell the 10m+ numbers that Square is hoping to see and I'm not sure they ever will.

I think it might be time to take a different approach and make FF games a little easier on Squares wallet to develop. I just don't think the Jrpg audience is big enough and clearly they feel the same by trying to attract fans of other genres to the series.
