Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?

DrClayman

They've got nothing to fear. I get what you're saying about mindshare, but you might be underestimating how much mindshare Horizon already has. It has consistently been voted one of the most anticipated games from gamers since its announcement (so is Zelda, I know), but it also has the advantage of launching in a platform that has three times the user base of Nintendo's two consoles combined (rough estimates by the way, I'm assuming Wii U is around 15 mil atm, and Switch will be very lucky to sell a million at launch). If I don't own a platform, or have no plans of buying, I generally switch off on their exclusives, that's why I think Horizon will still have a lot of mindshare.

Then again, I could be utterly wrong and I will have to eat my shoe

Re: Hands On: NieR Automata Seems Like Yet Another Must Have PS4 Exclusive

DrClayman

Mixed feelings about this one. Loved the way it combines three different genres, and the gameplay is really good, but I'm quite disappointed from the visuals. It really looks like a PS3 game, and the colour pallette isn't doing it any favours either. Bayonetta 2 was a gorgeous game, and it was running on a Wii U. I'm hoping there will be a bit more variety in the final game.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are Fall's Biggest Blockbusters Flopping?

DrClayman

I feel it might be the lack of innovation, not necessarily in IPs, but in game types. This generation feels so so similar to the last one, you've got you open world action, your shooters, your rpgs etc, which is almost the same as last gen, but bigger and more refined. I feel like every new gen before that had something new to offer, like mario 64, or gta 3 for example.

Personally, I'm alright, I've bought most of these games, but I can see why a lot of people might feel like we've been playing the same games for the past 10 years.

Re: Review: Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom (PS4)

DrClayman

Thanks for the review, I'm definitely getting this now. Honestly, I just wanted them to get the action right, and to relive the story once more, cause it's been a wee while since I watched it. Sounds like it ticks both boxes, so I'm happy

Re: Soapbox: Destiny's Grimoire Cards Are Pretty Awesome

DrClayman

The Destiny universe is fantastic, and it's one that's screaming for an EU, and I have no idea why there's nothing. I'd devour any books, comics, cartoons, anything really that expands on that world.

As far as the in game storytelling goes, I think it stumbled at first, but The Taken King was really good, and the rumour is that the same team is in charge of Destiny 2. If that's true, I'm expecting great things in the future.

Re: Rockstar Games to Reveal Exciting Future Projects Soon

DrClayman

About a year and a half ago I was told that Rockstar North was involved in two projects. They were doing some mocap work on some "western stuff", and there was something else called either "paradox" or "paradise" or something similar sounding like that. Dunno if that's a codename, or final title for a new IP, or maybe agent?

Western stuff is most likely RDR, which is San Diego's normally, but I wouldn't put it out of the question for them to help out a bit.

Re: Review: DOOM (PS4)

DrClayman

@DrJoeystein excellent write up, I'm glad to see a lot of people giving this game its due. I loved the game, but I was a bit worried that most people wouldn't, that the world might have moved on and I was just stuck in the past. I'm so glad this isn't the case, and I hope that means we get a lot more shooters like this. Now then, for a true sequel to Duke Nukem 3D

Re: Video: Should You Buy DOOM on PS4?

DrClayman

I've said it before and I'll say it again, platinumed this over the weekend and it's hands down the most fun I've had in a long while. The multiplayer might be lacking a bit, but the campaign is a pure gem, shooters like this do not exist anymore, period. And I'm already seeing some incredible stuff on SnapMap, less than a week from release. A truly special game.

Re: Hands On: Dispatching Demons in DOOM on PS4

DrClayman

I'm about halfway through and I'm loving every minute. Even though I was disappointed with the MP alphas/betas, the campaign is something special. And apart from the great gameplay, the biggest surprise for me is that the level design emphasises exploration, something that all shooters have abandoned. Even the good shooters, even the great ones, rely on point a to point b progression. FPS games started with maze-like levels, that required exploration to find keys, secret rooms, and backtrack a lot until you move on to the next level. Doom brings that all back, and that makes me extremely happy. The levels I've seen so far are getting better and better.

And you should really keep an eye on SnapMap. The degree you can customise anything, from designing a level, all the way to behaviour and logic settings for enemies, game types etc is mind blowing. This is the Mario Maker of FPS games imo, and if it catches on, we'll see some incredible stuff. Worth noting is that SnapMap was the last thing John Carmack was working on before he left id, and that man's a genius.

I still think the standard MP is not that great, but SnapMap could actually fix that, people might end up creating a better MP anyway.

Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Uncharted 4 on PS4?

DrClayman

@get2sammyb Just curious, why did the supernatural stuff feel out of place for you? Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider and a lot of games/films of that ilk have a supernatural element to them.

Personally, I missed it as well, I would have loved undead pirates, but then again, the game was incredible regardless, so by the end I didn't care that much.

I've seen this argument a lot though, and that's perfectly fine obviously, but it always seemed a bit weird that people don't mind supernatural elements in Indy, which clearly inspired Uncharted, but complain about it in these games.

Re: Wow, the Overwatch Beta Was Stupidly Popular

DrClayman

@Neurotic_Biotic Sorry, that was the PSN price I was talking about. 42 is a bit more reasonable I guess, but I still feel like we should have the option to buy the base game. It kinda feels like releasing only a collector's /premium edition of the game, and the base game being exclusive to a platform.

Re: Wow, the Overwatch Beta was Stupidly Popular

DrClayman

@AyanamiReign @Boerewors it doesn't have to be free to play. PC players can buy a $40 version, and we can only get the $60 one, with the only extra thing being a bunch of skins, which I don't really care about. Here in the UK it's even more ludicrous, £30 for the base edition on PC, £45 for the Origins edition on PC, £55 for the Origins edition on PS4. It's almost twice the price.

That's my problem, this is a £30/$40 game, and we don't even have the option to buy it at that, with no explanation why. I wish more people would point that out, it's really unfair to console players.

Re: Want to Feel Old? Final Fantasy XV was Announced 10 Years Ago Yesterday

DrClayman

I was living in a different country, studying for a degree that I was slowly losing interest in and never finished. In these 10 years, I moved across Europe, got into a new course, and graduated, spent a few years in a horrible customer service job, and for the past two years I've been working in my field in an amazing environment alongside people I never dreamed I'd ever meet.

Most importantly, I met a lovely young lady, who almost exactly a year ago, became my wife.

Don't know if FFXV can live up to that

Re: Soapbox: Why Hitman Proves More Games Should Release Episodically

DrClayman

Definitely a good read, and a lot of good points.

My personal issue with an episodic release, is that by the time the next episode rolls out, I've moved on to the next thing. Just the thought of trying to remember what the story was, who is everyone and re-acclimatising myself with the control scheme, puts me off diving back in. The controls are not much of an issue with telltale style games, but with something like hitman, assassin's creed, or anything with slightly deeper systems, I just don't know if I'd bother. And that is the main reason I haven't gotten the new Hitman, even though I thought the beta was really good.

I get that not everyone is like me though, and if companies want to release games like that, I'm all for it, it doesn't affect me in the least. Most of the time though, I will wait for the full game to be released.

Re: Thor-ly Not! Sources Say God of War IV Leak Is Legit

DrClayman

That's perfect if that's true, we get a change of setting and we get to keep Kratos, can't imagine GoW without him personally, and can't get enough of his angry shouting.

As to how it makes sense, it seems pretty straightforward to me. He killed all the olympians, now he's gonna kill all the Norse ones. Simples

EDIT: Also, I'm totally digging the beard if that's the new look

Re: Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo Will Be Available For Free Tonight on PS4

DrClayman

-Hey, you know what will be fun?
-What?
-If we make them attack with circle, and dodge with square!
-Lolz!

Seriously though, decent enough demo, although controls feel a bit stiff, combat doesn't flow great and frame rate is a bit of a dump fest. Very intrigued with the world/setting, just hope it will get a good level of polish before final release.

Re: Review: Senran Kagura Estival Versus (PS4)

DrClayman

I am racing through Shinovi atm, trying to finish it before this arrives, and I underestimated how long it is! I'm at 30 odd hours and I've only just started the last "school" storyline. Really impressed though, I wanted to check it out with all the controversy etc and I'm totally addicted to the gameplay loop.
