Re: PS4 Pro Controller Still Very Much Being Considered by Sony

DrClayman

@xMEADx I always used to play bumper jumper for that exact reason, jumping with X always felt off. Sometimes it wouldn't be supported from the game though, or the remapping of L1 to X wouldn't feel great (such as having the ability mapped to X in TF2). Since I got the Raiju, I've never had to worry about that though, I've permanently mapped x to my left middle finger and I can still use L1 as it was meant to in all games.

Re: Sony's Jim Ryan Just Said a Stupid Thing About Backwards Compatibility

DrClayman

@joey302 Fair enough, wasn't around that far back. From my experience, growing up in the 90s, I cannot for the life of me remember anyone expecting backwards compatibility with new generations of consoles, until after the PS2's launch. Could be just different circles, but even press didn't seem to make any mention of it back then ¯(ツ)

Re: Sony's Jim Ryan Just Said a Stupid Thing About Backwards Compatibility

DrClayman

@Brasilkilla It was never a big deal until, ironically, Sony made it a big deal with the PS2. Before that I don't remember a single person expecting the snes to play all the nes games or the Saturn to play all the mega drive games. Not sure if PS2 was they very first instant of that, but it was the first time it was such a big deal, every PS1 game can be played on the ps2. Since then, with every generation, everyone expects it. I couldn't care less, I generally keep my consoles.

Re: Digital Game Sales Are Becoming More and More Important to Sony

DrClayman

@gingerfrog it's not just you, changing discs feels like such a chore nowadays, especially with "live" games that you keep going back to. I'll still get a single player single playthrough game if I get a good deal on physical, but I'd never consider it for games like Destiny, Rocket League, Titanfall etc

Re: Digital Game Sales Are Becoming More and More Important to Sony

DrClayman

I like digital, especially since the wife got her own PS4, means I only need to buy one copy if we're planning to play something together. Even if it's a bit more expensive, it's still cheaper than two different copies. Add to the fact that Sony is absolutely killing it with sales the last couple of years, I'll very rarely get physical these days. Probably a 90-10 split as it is.

Re: Guide: 16 Best PS4 Accessories You Need to Own in 2017

DrClayman

I've had the Raiju since January and it's really hard to go back to the regular DS4, I get some people here have had issues, but it's been flawless for me. The resistance on the sticks is lower and the deadzone smaller, which is tricky to get used to initially, but once you do, it's great.

Re: Why Can't PS4 Pro Handle Destiny 2 at 60fps? Here's an Explanation

DrClayman

@BLP_Software Oh I completely agree on that front, if you just take a look at the numbers, it's clear that the CPUs didn't get much of an upgrade from base to Pro, or even from One to Scorpio. Some people are saying that the Scorpio version will run at 60, but they're about to be very disappointed. I think what you're gonna see is a checkerboarded 4K on Pro and a native 4K on Scorpio. But sorry, I digress..

Spot on on the dedicated servers on PC as well, although if their netcode is THAT good, it's an easier pill to swallow than a 30fps framerate.

Re: Why Can't PS4 Pro Handle Destiny 2 at 60fps? Here's an Explanation

DrClayman

@BLP_Software Keep in mind that the cost of dedicated servers increases significantly with an increased player base. Yes, they might have made 500 million in a day, and have millions of active players, but precisely for that reason the investment for dedicated servers would be far greater than a game with, say, a few thousand active players per month.

Also, no matter how much they could have wanted it, releasing a game on PC with a capped 30fps is financial suicide, you're better off not doing it at all.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date 'Doesn't Matter' Says Publisher

DrClayman

I've heard people say that San Diego started working on this as soon as they were done with Undead Nightmare, which would put the development of this game at 7-8 years when it's all said and done (and if it's not delayed again). If that's true, I am so intrigued by it, like, what the hell is in this game?!?! I hope I don't get overhyped/disappointed. But seriously though, what are they doing?

Re: Yes, Destiny 2 Is 30fps on PS4, PS4 Pro

DrClayman

@RedMageLanakyn I know, I'm not really that salty, I'll stick with the Pro. I can't play shooters on M+K and if I stick a controller on PC to play Crucible, well... might as well jump off a cliff Plus I agree, Destiny feels great anyway, but personally I don't care that much about resolution. Every game that has had a performance vs resolution option, I always choose framerate. That's the option I wish was there. Still excited for it though, pre ordered and cannot wait!

Re: Yes, Destiny 2 Is 30fps on PS4, PS4 Pro

DrClayman

It is a bit disappointing, not gonna lie. It's now the only console shooter (of significance) running at 30, in 2017 that's not good enough. However, if someone can make a 30fps shooter feel as good as possible, it's Bungie. Still though, I would've like the option on Pro/Scorpio to be able to choose between 1080/60 and 2160/30 (which they are supporting).

EDIT: I meant they are supporting the latter (4K), not the element of choice. I can see it could be interpreted otherwise

Re: Destiny 2 Gameplay Walkthrough Shows a Super Slick PS4 Sequel

DrClayman

Just back from watching the reveal in the cinema and it was glorious! I really liked everything I saw, it's Destiny through and through, but improved in little areas. As a hunter I feel a little bit let down, Warlock and Titan supers look incredible, while the Hunter one is basically bladedancer with a staff, but hey ho, I'll wait to play it and see the other subclasses as well. Good vibes overall though, well done Bungie.

Re: Poll: Should Sony Allow Early Access Games on PS4?

DrClayman

Also, I feel like I need to point out that one of the reasons I, and probably others, are against early access appearing on PSN and more curation happening, is not because we're evil and want to deprive people from playing them. Yes, I can ignore all the noise and grab what I want, but I feel it affects the discoverability of smaller cool titles that don't have the money to lead big marketing campaigns. I like going through new releases and checking out things I've not heard before, but that's nearly impossible on Steam anymore, and even worse on the mobile storefronts. There is so, so much shovelware and early access games, that I only go there if I want something specific. I don't want this to happen on PSN, even though it seems it's slowly moving that way.

Re: Poll: Should Sony Allow Early Access Games on PS4?

DrClayman

I find it insulting, people are doing a service for them and they ask them to pay for it? Aside from the fact that you're playing a game that's half finished, buggy, that takes away from immersion. It's a beta, either let people play it for free to help you out, or pay for game testers. I just don't think it's very ethical.

Re: This Isn't Your First Look at a PlayStation All-Stars Sequel

DrClayman

I really liked all stars, and still play it regularly with friends. I disagree with the "copy paste smash" attitude, all stars' fighting system required pretty different strategies to a game of smash (you don't get damage, you really need to land your supers etc). Love them both to bits, but the notion that it was just a ripoff needs to go away. I'd like to see a sequel that builds and expands on that gameplay than something completely new. And some better balancing would be nice (looking at you Kratos).

Re: Talking Point: Are 'Live Games' Really What You Want on PS4?

DrClayman

I kinda want to have my cake and eat it, to be honest. I've sunk a lot of hours into Destiny, and i still play regularly. I do love single player games though as well, and I play a lot of different games anyway, so I've never felt like I had to choose one or the other.

Would I want more live games? Well, personally, no. Destiny covers that space for me, and I don't really have time to allocate to a similar experience (say, the Division), so I'd rather Bungie keep making Destiny, and everyone else offering me one-off experiences.

But that's not exactly fair, is it? There are a lot of people who sink countless hours into their live game of choice, and so many more that might not have even found the live, long-term game that clicks with them the right way. Live games don't all fall in the same bracket, and more of those games coming, does not necessarily mean there would be a lack of innovation.

It's a tough question to answer one way or another, but I believe there is room for both. The tough reality is that a lot of the live games are going to fail, being so dependent on live communities, but same goes for single player games, there's a lot of them that might be great, but will fail commercially due to reasons such as poor marketing, crowded release windows etc.

Re: Call of Duty 2017 Will Return to the Series' Roots

DrClayman

On one hand AW was the last cod I really enjoyed, and still play occasionally, so I'm really looking forward to what Sledgehammer has to offer. On the other hand, military/realistic shooters have to be something really special to not bore me to death. I'll keep an open mind for now.

Re: PS4 Pro's Boost Mode Is Proving to Be Quite the Beast

DrClayman

Like others have said, AC Unity had framerate issues at launch, but the patch that dropped about a month after that eradicated all of them. I played it around Christmas that year and didn't run into any major drops.

That being said, it's one of my least favourite AC games, but not for any technical reason.
