I know this is a PlayStation focused site, but yikes at everyone hoping or celebrating if this were true. Consolidations so far have been pretty bad for the gaming industry. And Kadokawa is larger than just gaming.
@LowDefAl I often prefer to consume content by release order instead of chronological order of the narrative. I've looked around and the same is the case for Dragon Quest fans even in modern times concerning the Eldrick trilogy, so I was wondering what the reviewer thought about it (from their review, it seems that the story additions that the developers promised are not very substantial).
For me it's between Astro Bot and Metaphor this year. Surprised no one is mentioning Animal Well. Has the hype really died? I would also be surprised to not see Veilguard and Rebirth there.
I was excited for a moment having read the title, but then I remembered that Guerrilla is making an online Horizon game and most of that interest vanished as soon as it arrived.
Everything I see about this game looks great! I'm cautiously optimistic, games like Genshin prove that one can have fun, even for long periods of time, in f2p games without spending much if any (as I do) money on them. But the implementation of this monetization method, I think, it's still very hit-or-miss. I seemed to notice some frame drops in the trailer? Maybe they were a stylistic choice, but something that made me wonder.
Tier 2 just means generally reliable, or over 50/50, as far as I could tell from looking at their tiers. So still not that great (or "a big deal", if you ask me). But assuming that there will be a presentation on these grounds alone is also quite flimsy.
Whenever there are so many people making a huge fuss over censorship I always think "Gee, I wonder if it's about a strangely sexualized underaged character" and 99% of the time I'm right. If only you guys were as concerned about things like sexual violence towards minors in Japan, or other real life issues instead of seeing less skin in a character resembling a teenager... but that's no fun, right?
My main question is whether the additions make it worth it to play 3-1-2 or if the reviewer would still recommend perhaps waiting and playing in release order. Thanks!
Putting aside the issue of how many articles there are about the Pro, the biased, hyperbolic way in which you're trying to push the hardware is seriously disgusting. Is Push Square committed at all to presenting information independently from how it might benefit Sony? I'm really starting to doubt it these days.
I'm dumbfounded by comments like the one by DF. Maybe unbeknownst to me and everyone I know my eyes are messed up, or maybe I'm just more reserved in my use of language. Sure, the image on the Pro side looks a bit better. But a "gigantic leap"? What? I don't think I would even mostly notice (much less care for) the difference in image quality if I did not see them side by side (not that I think it's enough to care anyway).
Final note to avoid comments asking what I'm doing in this comments section. I kept seeing titles using such superlative adjectives to characterize the PS5 Pro enhancements that I just had to come and see for myself. Could it be that contrary to my first indifferent reaction to the PS5 Pro reveal, I was actually missing out on great improvements. Well, I guess I'm glad that it's not the case
I hope the workers are able to meet their goals. Don't Nod is a, relatively speaking, small team, so I am more prone to believe they would be in crisis after mismanagement than, say, big companies like Microsoft. Still this industry lays off people like I throw away used napkins, that has to change.
Last thing: the cover image is from the latest Life is Strange game, which I'm pretty sure was not made by Don't Nod. I believe the IP now belongs to Square Enix. You should consider changing it, I think. Might cause confusion.
This is a perfect reason to go back. I got the platinum a while back, but I'm still missing some secrets and characters. Me and my partner have been full into "Dragon Age Halloween" mood, though, so it has some competition on that day...
I think the options are a bit reductive. I agree with the sentiment of the first comment. I also especially agree with the part of there being a big lack of smaller titles (in all aspects: graphics, how long they take to beat, budget...). Nintendo is having such a great success exactly because they're releasing games on smaller budgets for weaker hardware.
The very last paragraph of the news piece is misleading at best. The article linked comments on lower than expected profits which refer to the sales on PS5 as FF XVI had just been released on PC. And of course, FF VII Rebirth isn't available on PC...
I just finished the Metaphor Re: Fantazio Prologue Demo, clocking in almost 8 hours. What a game. This past week I also got the platinum for Vampire Survivors, and I'm now close to getting 100% completion on that game, I just need to finish some adventures. I've also started The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and aside from the framerate issues, it's being very fun and whimsical. Finally, I'm finishing Secret Agent Clank over on PS5.
I haven't played Hogwarts Legacy because I'm waiting to get it used. But I really liked the PC version of Chamber of Secrets as a kid. Replayed that to death.
I'm playing a lot of PlayStation titles, so I'll comment here this week instead of in Nintendo Life as usual.
I'm playing through Daxter, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier and Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PS5. I'm playing through LocoRoco Remastered and Far Cry 3 on the PS4. I've recently finished watching the Fallout series with my partner and we're going through a bit of a fever, so we're both playing Fallout Shelter on the iPad and I've started Fallout 3 on the Deck.
I really like Life is Strange, but I can't adapt to the new look of Max. I just can't see Max in that model, and it puts me off a lot from considering to get the game.
This month has nothing for me. Just finished revisiting Daxter like two weeks ago as part of my playthrough of the Jak series. Definitely worth playing or replaying.
@Dalamar That's the issue for me. Two of the games that looked more promising to me in the last State of Play were from Chinese devs. But I lost pretty much all interest once I learned they were f2p.
My only question is how well this will run on the Steam Deck, as I would prefer to play it that way if I play it on PC. It has come out on PS4, so it should be fine. But... I already have it on PS5, so not sure if I'll double dip.
The reveal cinematic was incredible. It had such a nice vibe that made it look like Guardians of the Galaxy, which is perhaps the Marvel IP that I like the most. And then... it's the most uninteresting game following on from that. Who needed another hero shooter? To hell with these live service games. As expected, turning out to be completely underwhelming.
I think the only issue is that they should make PSN more widely available. But other than that, it's perfectly okay to make it a requirement to do a PSN log-in. Weren't they going to start including trophies in their PC versions? I think that's worth it.
I know this won't happen, but I have been going down nostalgia lane these days and replaying the Jak games (trying to beat Jak 2 for the first time, actually) and I so wish PlayStation would bring back the series. Insomniac still makes Ratchet games, c'mon Naughty Dog :' )
@twitchtvpat I agree. And in general it doesn't seem to be the kind of games that PlayStation as a whole is interested in, sadly (though I like the more grounded and narrative focused games, don't get me wrong). Of the three big hero series from the PS2, only Ratchet keeps being alive, and I imagine it's due to Insomniac insisting to making them.
@AKAslickdaddy40 I agree, I think the story is more mature than a lot of people were ready for. I think there definitely is a correlation between being young and immature, but sadly I see also a lot of older people being so childish that I've lost hope of some people maturing much as they grow up. Having said that, on the inclusivity side of things, I don't think age plays that big of a role. I think we saw similar kind of reactions to some of the more extreme reactions to one of the main characters in the new AC being black instead of Japanese.
@ProfessorNiggle @Jacko11 I think it's also because of the inclusive themes of TLOU2 and the more grim story in general, which didn't land well with conservative people as well as when it launched in 2020 (people were already depressed and didn't want even more depression, I suppose).
A remake of Assassin's Creed II would be great, and more needed than one of Black Flag, in my opinion. For instance, give us the opportunity to replay any memory at will, Ubisoft! Looking forward to see how they tackle Japan. Ubisoft games are at least good in that they are often accurate.
So many news about Xbox here on PushSquare. What gives? I mean I would read them in PureXbox anyway, but seems like you guys are almost posting more news about Xbox than PS these last days. Trying to ride the wave of Xbox resentment a bit too much?
The game looks superb. Addressing the title of the piece, I think only after spending some time with the game will I be able to tell if I prefer this one to Persona 5's. Which is to say a lot as Persona 5's UI and art direction is pretty much unrivaled for me.
@Korgon Agreed with all you said! I worry that they'll focus too much on Clive, whereas I think we already got quite a complete picture with the base game.
Would love to see more about Leviathan, Torgal and have maybe a different playable character (maybe even the Leviathan dominant) in one of the expansions.
I voted FF XVI, but it was a very close call, I really liked Stray too. Loved what I saw from Season too, seems like a very relaxing and comforting game. That would be my third pick.
The State of Play delivered, but scary stuff and Street Fighter are not my thing, so some of the other major announcements were not for me.

Re: All The Game Awards 2024 Nominees Revealed, Astro Bot Up for 7 Awards
For me it's sadly clear both that Metaphor should win by a long shot and that it will win only one minor category as a consolation prize or so.

@PuppetMaster The short answer is because of the success of GTA III at the time.
