Re: Soapbox: I Spent 3 Days with the Concord Trophy Hunters Who Dedicated Their Lives to Unlocking the PS5, PC Platinum

Gaia093

Just finished the article. Great read - and frankly, while I've never put myself through anything as draining as this for a completion, the immense majority of my experiences with trophy boosting groups closely mirror this story.

Dedication, mutual encouragement, sticking around to help after they're done themselves, taking other people's mistakes in stride, etc. Unironically some of the best, most chill people you can find to play games with, whether it's a mindless grind or something strenuously skill-based.

It was nice to see a piece from someone who actually bothered to experience this "from the inside" and acknowledges both the good and the bad of the experience.

Re: Soapbox: Astro Bot PS5 Is Not a Graveyard, It's a Joyful Demonstration of Sony's Unique Ability to Reinvent Itself

Gaia093

Not every IP needs to perpetuate itself unto eternity. Sometimes it's much healthier, for both the creators and the creation, to let it reach a natural end.

People have a strange obsession with calling franchises 'dead' when in most cases they are simply 'finished'. The only instances where that term ever makes sense would be those in which the creators actively wanted to make a new entry and they never managed to.

Re: PS Plus Extra's September Cull Has 4 More Great PS5, PS4 Games Added to It, 16 in Total

Gaia093

@naruball Given enough free time, sure. I got 100% in about five days during the holidays, and according to PSN my total playtime was 47 hours. Just under two weeks left for it to be removed, so I think it's doable.

That playtime can easily be lowered, too. I tend to let all the voice lines play out instead of skipping to the next, I read every piece of text in the glossary and whatnot, and I also played the RTS battles on the hardest settings. All of that adds up to a good bunch of shave-able hours.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive

Gaia093

Internal positivity means next to nothing. They need focus testing with average players not afraid to speak their minds, and to take feedback seriously as opposed to calling it "white noise" and moving on.

I do think Fairgame$ is in a somewhat better position than Concord despite its widely hated CG reveal trailer, because it's taking on a less exploited subgenre. But if they don't change their incredibly out of touch approach, they'll have yet another bomb on their hands.

Re: Players Take the Easy Way Out in Pursuit of Concord's Coveted Platinum Trophy

Gaia093

I don't blame them, when you consider the very real possibility that they'll just can the game forever and the trophy list will become forever unobtainable (despite the announcement's implications that the game may return in a different format).

Less than three days of prior notice to complete a game this grindy is pretty bollocks, but then again it's not like they were thinking of completionists when they settled on the shutdown date.

Re: Just Like Black Myth: Wukong, PS5 Action RPG Enotria Is Delayed Indefinitely on Xbox

Gaia093

"Or maybe, just maybe, developers are having trouble with Microsoft's machines. You know, like they keep telling us."

Nah, that's too convenient. Instead, I must believe the Forbes journalist bellend who gets his "info" out of Reddit posts.

Anyhow, I forget which game it was, but a small developer recently had a similar complaint about Microsoft being impossible to communicate with to push their game through, and thus ended up cancelling their XBox release.

Re: Concord PS5, PC Sales Estimates Are Somehow Even Worse Than We Thought

Gaia093

@thefourfoldroot1 That's the thing mate - you don't have an argument.

You're insulting people who'd rather have a free-to-play game with MTX while saying that Concord, a premium game with MTX (i.e. the worst of both worlds), is the better price model for the players.

In other words, you make zero sense because your first comment was based on the misconception that Concord's got no MTX and you're getting a complete package when buying it. Nothing petty about pointing it out, especially when you're not just being wrong but pointlessly rude as well.

Re: Popular Free PS5 Action RPG Zenless Zone Zero Teases New Region in Trailer

@AdamNovice

More or less the same here, I think I'll be at around 160 when Jane's banner begins.

I started too late for Ellen (August 1st), got Zhu Yuan, and I'm skipping Qingyi. Jane's cool so I'll try to get her for as many pulls as I can afford without jeopardizing that I get Caesar guaranteed. Version 1.2 will bring its own share of easy polychromes, so there's some leeway for me to pull at least.

Re: Antstream Lets You Stream 1000s of Retro Games, and It's Coming to PS5, PS4

Gaia093

I feel like I've got far better options available to me whenever I want to play retro games.

The extra appeal of a retro game coming to PS5 usually comes down to said game being fully 'integrated' into a modern system - downloadable, with trophy support, etc. Playing stuff via this service would kind of negate that for me.

I hate streaming games period, too. Had to do it for some PS3 Classics such as ICO since there's no download option for them - and the stuttering, while occasional, is a complete and utter deal breaker.

Re: Queen's Blood Confirmed for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sequel, CCG to Be Expanded

Gaia093

Sweet news, I enjoyed Queen's Blood.

@PuppetMaster The whole negative discourse surrounding Rebirth and its optional content is incredibly weird and tiresome.

People are getting increasingly incapable of either taking their time to enjoy the smaller things in games, or simply moving on from them without getting annoyed at their mere existence. And heavens forbid they've got to engage with a secondary activity for all of five introductory minutes over the course of the critical path.

Re: Gorgeous PS5 RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Promises to Take Turn-Based Combat to the Next Level

Gaia093

It's not often at all that I see a trailer for a brand new IP and instantly go "yup, I'm getting this one at launch". Absolutely fantastic-looking game that I can't wait to see more of.

All that being said, I'd argue the kind of combat they're going for is reminiscent of Ichiban's Like a Dragon games, although they might go deeper still with the real time integration aspect.

Off I go to read the full article.

Re: Here's Your First Look at the Like a Dragon: Yakuza Television Show

Gaia093

The make-or-break factor here will be whether or not Kiryu's actor can deliver a performance that feels true to the character.

I'm not a big fan of live action adaptations generally speaking, but there is potential for some fun times here. Plus, unlike other media, Like a Dragon's pretty close to reality already.

Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

Gaia093

Nah, I appreciate how I always have a bunch of them available to play if I'm feeling like it, and I enjoy making my way through the ever increasing selection one at a time. It's a neat subgenre.

I would definitely feel burnt out if I played several of them in a row, but I tend to pick one up every couple months or so, and that pace has worked well.
